Giving of firstfruit is a most for a Bible-Believing Christian, but just as God will not force you if u bring it to God, the reward is in Verse 10 of Proverb 3 and if you do not no problem. U will only miss out on the reward. So it is your decision to bring it or not, no one will force you to bring it!

I think the most important thing is salvation, first fruit or no first fruit is for individual benefit. No mater how much u contribute to church, no mater what u give ur pastor, if u re not genuinely saved its all vanity. The reward of all these first fruit, offering and so on are just earthly reward. First fruits and every giving /offering to God is an act of worship. No one can sacrifice for God and be stranded. God gave one Son years ago, today he has millions of sons. Sacrifice today for your tomorrow. Giving is acceptable and pleasing to God when it willing.

You need to understand that the “Church” is not the building, it the Christians, you and I (that is if you are a Christian).

First of all mountain of fire is a do it yourself ministry you are not forced to do anything, second of all first fruit is the best thing you can ever do for yourself … when you pay your first fruit truthfully you will feel the impact and again mountain of fire don’t force you to do anything at all. I don’t want to mention the church. During my service year, 2011, a fellow corp member invited me for a Valentine program in her church. I went because that was the first val that I ever went out to celebrate and I don’t discriminate denomination as long as they preach Jesus. Before my visit to the church, I was an active member in my church, church fellowship, NYSC choir and NCCF. I was into various activities that I barely had time for myself, but I found joy in them all. Now, this church I went just to support my corp member who wanted me to come and watch her perform. As I was sitting down, they passed a coupon and form which they asked me to fill out. I refused. I politely told them that I was a guest at their church. They tried to persuade me, and they kept my friend that she is not a devoted member because she asked them to let me be. Behind my back and without my knowledge, they made her fill my own form with details she knew about me. They made her do this despite I put in money in the envelop. I watched them dance like crazy. Some were even lifting up their plastic chairs. It was appalling but I endured. I grew up in a staunch Anglican family with love for Catholicism in me. At a younger age, I enrolled myself in the choir. So, I felt it was my kind of music preference that made me quite uncomfortable. I don’t want to talk about some luscious dress sense I noticed. I was happy at last, when I watched my friend perform. She sounded very angelic and I believe everyone loved her voice. The service was over and it was time to go. She ran to me, telling me that her pastor wants to see me. I didn’t want to be rude, so I obliged her. He greeted me and introduced me to his wife, everyone were calling them Daddy and Mummy, except mua. They invited me to have dinner in their home, but I turned it down as polite as I could (of course, they were daddy and mommy in Christ) So, I thought. I also held the post of welfare officer in my LGA. There was a corp member (male) that had accident and died, (RIP) he was a member of that church before his demise. After, that val event, I forgot all about them but they started bombarding me with phone calls and texts messages. The position that I held required that I answer every phone call that comes into my phone. I couldn’t dodge their calls and I really became pissed off at a time. I asked my friend, how on earth they got my phone number. Then, she apologized and claimed they made her do it. It wasn’t up to a week, she begged me that the pastor’s wife was inviting me specially for her birthday. As she was talking, my phone rang and it was the pastor’s wife. I told her no and she began telling that she wants to see me. That I left a wonderful impression in their minds. I went to my church in the morning, then from there I went the church where I was invited. They gave me front seat and I wondered why despite I came a bit late. The pastor preached and condemned that corp member that died. Here were his words: “this why I always warn you members to always to tell me every of your plans and movements, especially if you want to travel….” I was alarmed because from where I was serving (Ikirun, Osun state) I joined the LGI, CLO and few officials and corp members to Illorin where his body was laid to rest. It was not funny as he made joke of it and people laughed. After his sermon (preaching and dramatization) He said that new corp members are going to take over the post of… And next thing, the he called out my name. Their ushers asked me to go, I refused, my girlfriend came to talk to me and I was hostile towards her, so she left. The pastor’s wife and one other elderly woman that her husband was a co-pastor started begging. They said that even if I don’t want it that it is an insult to God as I remain sitted. I reluctantly stood up and the whole church went into singing and dancing. My spirit hates noise. I was crying but it was not tears of joy, but a rage that I bottled up so tightly. The so called pastor hit me on my painfully in the guise of parting me on the back. At this point I have lost my cool. So, I eyed him sharply. One other corp member that they gave a post was telling me that I did not know how lucky I am. I was given choir mistress of the corp members. I liked me silent but active participation in NCCF and my home based church. I was waiting for them to give me the mic, and as it got to my turn the pastor himself collected the mic from the girl standing next to me. He rushed a prayer and asked us to go back to our seats. I waited after the service, I met his wife and she was acting Mrs busy. So, I requested to meet the so called pastor. He turned meeting me down. I left and didn’t go for the so called party. I went straight to my fellowship. I told them my experience and some comforted me, while some began spreading rumour that I joined another fellowship because they did not make me music director. I ignored the gossip until the vice president of my fellowship called me to inquire about the truth. So, I told her everything and even showed her some of their text messages and my replies. She apologized and told me that God will vindicate me. So, one Sunday after my church service, I went there and immediately, they dismissed I walked up to the pastor still in the pulpit. He said you ran away from your calling. Why? I looked into his eyes and told him that he lied. I told him that God does not force nor coarse you but always gives us our free will. I told him that he and his plot has failed because I know who I am in Christ Jesus. I denounced the post of music director and told him that both him and his wife need Jesus in their lives. His wife was there, she tried to come with her deception but I told her to kindly keep it for her members and those they can deceive. I walked away with no regrets whatsoever. Why am I telling this long story? Not everyone that calls God, Father Father!!! Are His children. Be warned. Let the Word of God be your Daily Bread and Fountain. Do not be deceived. Jesus mentioned those that if you give, then you have given unto Him. The poor, visit the sick and those imprison. Hear the Word of God; Give a cup of water and if possible shelter to someone who comes with the Good News of Jesus Christ. For those who have work (includes business) give 1/10 of your income. Anything, you give, give it with a cheerful heart. My friend, later, left that church and went back to her church. I asked why and she said, all they care about is money and donations. He said that curse be unto anyone that does not give all their next allowie for a particular project, and she actually gave it all. Then, he said that they MUST give their first fruit to the church (January allowie) she said that she knew how she suffered the other time. So, she refused but when she was ill, nobody called nor visited her despite she told some of her choir members and she sent their mummy text for prayers. I told her that I did not want to condemn her church, so, I kept silent. She then told me that pastor said that I won’t pass from service with my mates, and that if does not happen is not him (a so called pastor) I laughed till tears came out, and then I told that I will not bet with him but my God will defend me. She looked very scared. I told her that she shouldn’t worry and I said I short prayers with her. I read Psalms and relaxed. I graduated with my set. I was presented with gifts and lots of certificates from my school (PPA), church, NCCF, NYSC (monetary gift award), State Coordinator/ZDI/LGI as a dutiful welfare officer, and also from my students who wept as I left them. God is never an author of confusion.

The issue of First Fruit is really a controversial one because not many people actually understand it. The Bible says first fruit means the “Best of the best” in a new Season. Those days, they were referring to planting season. But trying to equate it to modern day life, first fruits should mean the best of your income in a new season. Best of your income or whatever you have. If you are a farmer, you can bring the best of your harvest. Best doesnt mean all.

I am sorry for your experience, but it does not in any way cancelled the Word of God. First Fruits, Tithes and offerings is paid to the Church not else where: Proverbs 3: 9-10,Nehemiah 10:37,Malachi 3:8.By giving people this bad and wrong advice, you are not different from the pastor you condemned in your story. You need to understand that the Church is not the building or the pastor, but you and I, the whole community fellowshipping in that building. Yes there are few greedy pastors, but there are also hundreds of good one that properly use church funds. My Pastor for example is an excellent man of integrity.

Most of us are surrounded with the poor and they needy, the orphans and those that are financially depressed and oppressed ” but we don’t find it needful to give. Is a shame that most churches do not preach the poor and the need to give to the poor again!
