The relationship between two friends which soured due to a misunderstanding over money, causes a debate online.

The situation was narrated by @drpepple_ an influencer on X (Twitter), he used it as an example of what happens when clear financial boundaries and agreements are not set on financial transactions.

He narrated how a guy had initially borrowed his friend £1000 which was equal to ₦1m at the time and then when it was time to return the money, the friend returned ₦1m even though £1000 was now ₦2m.

This clear difference caused the friend who had lent out money to refuse the sum he was given, insisting that he had to be paid the full £1000 which is ₦2m, this disagreement between the two caused the relationship to sour.

This financial dispute has caused netizens to take sides, debating which friend was at fault. The majority of comments seem to agree that the friend who lent the money was the one who was justified.

@shyposh_ Bad friendship… a friend who later becomes an enemy was always an enemy right from day one

@theabujabags_shoes I think the money should be paid back in the same currency it was given. Abeg make nobody stress me with money wey I no see

@_emamae lol…. Some people are funny sha… you asked for £1000 and receive it as that. How you want to pay back in another currency…. Is that not wickedness??

@3dgbemmy Pay back the currency you were lend it’s very simple !

@seamsbytianah My own is, what took him so long to pay back? Do you remember when £1 was N1000? Till it became N2000. That’s a very long time. If he invested the money, the ROI would be massive.

@_eseohe_ He owes the guy £1,000. People should stop being selfish
