OPPO Showcases New Conceptual Design With Nendo and Hosts Retrospective Exhibition at CIIDE

December 14, 2020, Lagos, Nigeria — On this day, OPPO, a leading smart device company, showcased multiple new conceptual designs based on its human-centric design philosophy at the 4th China International Industrial Design Expo (CIIDE). These conceptual designs were created for OPPO by leading Japanese design studio nendo, founded by Oki Sato. These result from the close collaboration between OPPO and nendo, exploring the possibilities of future design. During the exhibition, OPPO also exhibited a series of its classic product designs, showcasing its unique insights and exploration into form design, materials and interaction that have occurred since the company’s inception.

The China International Industrial Design Expo is a national-level event focused on industrial design in China. With this year’s theme of “New Designs, New Trends, New Momentum,” OPPO put on a retrospective exposition, showcasing classic industry-leading product designs from throughout its history.

In 2008, OPPO launched its first smartphone, the “Smiley Face” A103, marking the beginning of its pursuit of the perfect synergy of ultimate aesthetics and innovation. These innovations have proved numerous over the past 12 years: In 2012, OPPO launched Finder – one of the world’s thinnest phones – designed to be easier and more comfortable for users to hold. In 2014, it introduced the 2.5D curved design on Find 5, while 2016’s R9 took inspiration from snow-covered mountain ridges to provide a smartphone with improved grip and looks. More recently, OPPO launched Reno3 in 2019 as the world’s thinnest 5G phone at the time.

OPPO’s breakthrough in design also extends to its cutting-edge camera technology. In 2014, OPPO released the world’s first motorized rotating camera smartphone –N3. In 2018, its full-screen display smartphone, Find X, utilized a pioneering sliding design which enabled the camera to pop out from within the phone when activated. This innovation integrated 11 components, including front and rear cameras and sensors, and resulted in a screen-to-body ratio of 93.8%. In 2019, OPPO broke even more boundaries with the launch of the Reno 10x Zoom and its unique pivot rising structure, which has since inspired new design ideas within the smartphone industry.

In November this year, OPPO once again demonstrated its latest exploration into mobile phone form factors with the OPPO X 2021 rollable conceptual handset at the OPPO INNO DAY 2020 event. The size of the conceptual device’s rollable display is infinitely adjustable within a specified range, offering a new perspective on the future of devices and how humans might interact with them.

At the China International Industrial Design Expo, OPPO showcased the “slide-phone” and “music-link” conceptual designs that it has been working on together with the leading Japanese industrial designing studio nendo.

The “slide-phone” conceptual design can be folded into different states

The idea for the “slide-phone” originated from OPPO and nendo’s discovery that smartphone users increasingly rely on their smartphones to interact with the world around them. To support more functionality, smartphone is designed in a constant increasing of size, making it difficult to hold and less convenient. This trend towards larger phones has become a growing concern for users. Armed with this insight, the “slide-phone” concept is designed with three foldable screens attached by hinges folding over in the same direction. By providing users with the flexibility to change the form of the phone as needed, users may benefit from the ability to change its size to suit the occasion. Furthermore, a stylus inserted in phone allows users to expand their productivity by using the phone for work or other more complex tasks.

OPPO and nendo’s other conceptual design, “music-link”, is a collection of devices centered around a pair of TWS earphones that includes a smartwatch, an AI speaker, a portable charger and a wireless charger. All devices are designed in a sleek organic form, adopting an affinity design that mirrors the aesthetic values of users today. When the TWS earphones and portable charging case are placed on the AI speaker, users can enjoy a seamless music experience transitioning from headphones to speaker. This symbiotic design between devices, and the emphasis on portability and convenience, reflects OPPO’s integration of technology and human-centricity in its design philosophy.

Commenting on the partnership, nendo CEO and chief designer, Oki Sato, said:“I was impressed by OPPO’s philosophy, which goes beyond leveraging the latest technology and pursues a comfortable relationship between people and their products through a human-centric approach to design. I am looking forward to seeing new concepts from the OPPO team as well as seeing how they manage to further strike a balance between technology and emotional engagement.”

OPPO Industrial Design lead designer Xiao Bo added: “nendo’s design is closely aligned with OPPO’s human-centric philosophy. OPPO aims to bring users a delightful product experience with cutting-edge technology and aesthetic design. This partnership is built upon a conviction that, to create a groundbreaking tech product with the right level of comfort for users, we must focus on “human.” Moving forward, we will double down on this approach by engineering products with a more seamless, user-friendly experience.”

As an explorer and leader pursuing the perfect synergy of ultimate aesthetics and innovation, OPPO established an industrial design center at its inception to incubate design and innovation within the industry. The center was certified by The Fourth selection of National Industrial Design Centers in China on November 22, 2019. OPPO’s cutting-edge product design has also been well-received and recognized by the industry. This year, OPPO Find X and Reno3 Pro won the 2020 Good Design Awards, while the OPPO Find X2 Pro won the Swan Award in the China Mobile Phone Design Competition. OPPO will continue to focus on product design, further exploring how technology and aesthetics can be integrated to create closer relationships between people, devices, and the world around them.

Why is sleeping with multiple women a bragging right for men? – Singer Iceberg Slim

Popular Nigerian rapper, Iceberg Slim has taken to his social media page to ask a rather interesting question.

Singer Iceberg via his Instastories, posed a question to men asking why sleeping with multiple women a bragging right.

The rapper, who was once in a relationship with Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim, further averred that being able to stay with one woman is a better achievement to brag about than sleeping with more women.

His post reads ;

Why is it ‘bragging rights’ for men to say they’ve slept with multiple women?! Sex is easy…sex is cheap.

However, given the complexity of women.. Shouldn’t men brag about being able to keep/satisfy ONE woman?!

That’s what requires time, effort, resources, love, patience, thinking outside the box, spontaneity, understanding love languages and so on.

Doesn’t ”I’ve been able to keep my wife happy for 20 years” sound like more of an accomplishment than ”I’ve slept with 20 women”?!

Nigerian man calls out his Ex-girlfriend, accuses her of cheating on him with married men

A Nigerian man, identified as Uzor Bobby has celebrated his ex-girlfriend on her birthday in a very unusual way.

Uzor took to Facebook on Sunday, December 13th, to celebrate his ex on her birthday and prayed God blesses her with a better man that she won’t cheat on with married men because of her love for money.

“Happy birthday to my ex. May the good Lord bless and give you a man better than me if you won’t cheat on him with married men because of excess money. It mustn’t end in marriage. #NoBadEnergy.”

However, Uzor received backlash on social media over his post. Nigerians criticized him for calling the lady out, despite not being in a relationship with her anymore.

In a heated exchange with a Facebook user, who insinuated that Uzor’s ex probably cheated on him because he couldn’t take care of her or marry her, he claimed that he had gone to meet her parents few days ago only to find out that she was in an Owerri hotel with another man.

He wrote,

“December I was in their home town to meet her parents, when she was called it happened that she was in a hotel in Owerri with a guy from Russia. Bro, she later called and begged and I forgave her, yet she kept doing it. I have like 23 guys with her, I have my evidence.

“I lived in California. Was in Israel last year for pilgrimage. I have been to China for six times, Canada and Dubai. I am the CEO of Beliuzment Reliable Solace Ltd. I don’t like your reasoning.”

In reaction to Uzor’s post, another Facebook user, Ekenedilichukwu Ugwoke stated that Uzor’s former lover left him because he was “childish.”

Ammy Dozie wrote, “Acting childishly. See how you are disgracing yourself here thinking that you can talk. Even some responsible men here are angry with your post.”

Woman Gives Birth to quintuplets After 23 Years Of Childlessness; Stranded at Hospital Over N3.7m Bill (Photo)

A Nigerian woman who suffered for many years without a child has cried out after giving birth to five babies (quintuplets) and being detained at a hospital.

It was gathered that the woman, Mrs Abigail Musa, delivered five babies after 23 years of barrenness, but has been denied her freedom at the Fertile Ground Hospital, Zaramaganda Road, Jos, Plateau State, over an accumulated hospital bill of N3.7m.

According to a report by Punch, Abigail had been staying in the hospital for the past three and half months when the babies were born.

Also, two of the babies were said to have died.

Her husband, Mr Garba Musa, a pastor with the Church of Christ in Nations, told newsmen on Sunday that efforts to raise the bill and take his wife and the three surviving babies home had been abortive.

He said,

“My wife and the babies were discharged from the hospital about two days ago, but we could not go home due to the hospital bill.

“It’s really a big challenge, which we do not know how to handle because the outstanding money, which the doctor said must be paid before we leave, is N3.7m. This is just too much for us.”

Explaining how the hospital bill accumulated, the cleric said,

“My wife had been at the hospital for three months and three weeks. When she gave birth to the five babies through operation, they were premature, which necessitated that they put them inside incubators.

“My wife was charged N3,000 and each baby consumed N5,000 every day. Almost every two days, tests were run on the babies, which took N3,000. There were other charges also, and that was how the money amounted to such a huge amount.

“Although two of the babies could not make it, we thank God for everything. The hospital management said many people in the past who promised to pay after they were discharged, disappeared without a trace. We need help in our present situation.”

Garba, who described the birth of the babies as a miracle, recalled how people mocked him and his wife for the past 23 years over their bareness.

“At a point, some people advised my wife to divorce me; they also came to me and offered similar advice. It was not easy, but I thank God for my wife because whenever we were tempted to divorce, God gave us the grace to resist it,” he added.

You can’t have bone straight hair and be asking for $100 urgently – Omokri slams women

reno omokri bone

Nigerian Author and former President Goodluck Jonathan’s ex-media aide, Reno Omokri has advised women on how to be prudent with their spending.

Reno Omokri bone

He frowned at the idea of a woman having a bone straight hair which is expensive, yet asking for $100 urgently.

According to the author, women should learn not to only focus on their wants and beg people for their needs.

Omokri explained that bone straight hair is a want, so anyone who has such expensive hair and still goes ahead to request for $100 needed on an urgent basis will not get it from him.

”Bone straight hair is a want. You can’t have it and send me a ‘I urgently need $100’ text. Your urgency is self inflicted.

Accommodation, feeding, clothes, are needs. The more you spend on wants, while you have pending needs, the more you sink into poverty,” he tweeted.

Devil responsible for rising rape cases – Commissioner for Women Affairs Adamawa

Commissioner for Women Affairs in Adamawa State, Lami Ahmed, has blamed the rising cases of rape in Nigeria to the devil.

She made the statement while speaking to The Punch, as she said there is also a breakdown in family values, resulting in higher divorce rates which then exposes children to abuse.

“To me, the reason why the cases of rape are increasing every day is because rape is the handiwork of the devil. There’s a breakdown in family values resulting in a higher rate of divorce.

“Situations such as the separation of the father and mother can sometimes expose the child to abuse either from a family member or neighbours.

“If laws are put in place, they will curtail the incidence. But because there’s no law yet in place, we are confronted with the menace of rape and the sharp rise in gender-based violence,” she said.

The commissioner noted that stigmatisation is a major reason rape victims do not speak up, adding that when rape occurs, the parents of a victim or the victim might fear being identified and stigmatised.
