U.S court dismisses fraud case against Hushpuppi’s co-defendant, Mr Woodberry

The fraud case against Olalekan Ponle better known as Mr Woodberry who was apprehended alongside Ramon Abbas AKA Hushpuppi, has been dismissed by a US court.

It should be recalled that Woodberry was accused of tricking a Chicago company into sending wire transfers totalling $15.2 million. Prosecutors disclosed that companies based in Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, New York and California were also victims of the fraud.

He was arrested in the United Arab Emirate on June 10 after a raid by operatives of the Dubai crime unit, and subsequently extradited to the U.S. on July 2.

Though Woodberry was indicted by a grand jury on an eight-count charge of wire fraud, the United States government on Monday July 20th filed a motion through its attorney John R. Lausch, requesting that the case against him be dismissed without prejudice.

Lausch said;

“Counsel for the government has spoken with counsel for the defendant and defendant’s counsel has no objection to this motion. Respectfully submitted.”

He added that the request was made in pursuant with Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure 48, which states that the government may, with leave of court, dismiss an indictment, information, or complaint.

A court order issued by Judge Robert W. Gettleman on Tuesday July 21, confirmed that the government’s motion to dismiss complaint without prejudice was granted.

Mr Gentleman said;

“Without objection the complaint against defendant Ponle is dismissed without prejudice. Motion presentment hearing set for 7/23/2020 is stricken.”

Since Woodberry’s case was dismissed without prejudice, it is temporal as the prosecutor can refile the case within a certain period of time.

The probable causes of dismissal range from unavailability of sufficient evidence, an improper criminal complaint or charging document, to loss of evidence necessary to prove the defendant committed the crime.

US court reveals why Hushpuppi was denied bail

A United States Court sitting in Illinois, Chicago has given its reason for denying embattled Nigerian socialite, Ramon Abbas a.k.a Hushpuppi bail.

It should be recalled that the Instagram celebrity who was apprehended in Dubai early in June for alleged wire fraud and was extradited to the U.S on July 3, was accused of being part of a network that made “hundreds of millions of dollars” from business email compromise frauds and other scams.

The US court has now revealed that it denied Hushpuppi bail and the opportunity to stay with his girlfriend’s Uncle pending the conclusion of his trial.

Based on the recommendations of the Pretrial services which provides the court quality information about defendants, it was stated that Hushpuppi presents a risk of non appearance and should be removed to the charging district in California in custody.

According to a report by Premium Times, other factors include the fact that Mr Abbas is subject to lengthy period of incarceration if convicted, lacks significant community or family ties to the district, lacks significant family or other ties outside the United States, lacks legal status in the country and will be subjected to removal or deportation for serving any period of incarceration.

If the allegations turns out true, it was further stated that Huspuppi who has ties with many foreign countries has sufficient assets to fund flight to anywhere in the world.

The statement partly read,

“Abbas reportedly rents an apartment in Dubai for $10.000 a month and drives a Bentley. He is alleged to have committed financial crimes that netted tens of millions of dollars or more.

“For these reasons and those stated on the record, Mr Abbas shall be removed to the charging district in the custody of the US Marshal.”

UNIZIK graduate dies after she was allegedly poisoned by a man she turned down

A National youth corps member who graduated from UNIZIK was killed after she was allegedly poisoned by a man she turned down.

Chizuroke Egodi Onuorah was one of the best graduating students in the Environmental management department and the second best-graduating student in the faculty of environmental sciences.

She was posted to Oyo state for her NYSC where she unfortunately passed away before completing her youth service.

There’s been two different reports about the cause of her death. Friends shared screenshots of a chat where the deceased purportedly claimed that she had been vomiting after being poisoned by a man who was asking her out in Ibadan.

However, another Facebook user claimed she died from “kidney related disease” after battling for months to stay alive. It however is not clear if the kidney disease was as a result of the alleged poisoning.

Popular Instagram comedian, Adedamola Adewale popularly known as Adeherself, who was arrested alongside four others by the EFCC, on the 16th of June, for internet fraud, has been released.

Recall that on Wednesday July 15th, she was granted N500,000 bail by an Ikeja Special Offences Court in which she was ordered to provide two sureties with reliable means of income which would be verified by the court. J

The influencer, who had been in the custody of the EFCC following her arraignment in court on July 7, is facing a charge of possession of a fraudulent document.

According to EFCC counsel, Samuel Daji, the defendant was arrested following intelligence received by the EFCC on the activities of some young men allegedly involved in internet fraud in the Lekki axis of Lagos.

Day four of Big Brother Naija “Lockdown” season was task day for the housemates which became an unfortunately non-celebratory day as their first wager was lost due to little preparedness.

Since the show’s opening night, housemates have been encouraged to get to know themselves ahead of Thursday night’s wager game. Big Brother offered a special treat to the team to successfully hit 30 points.

Disappointingly, some housemates were too involved in the cuddling business to pay attention to discovering other housemates.

The wager challenge ended with none of the teams reaching 30 points. The female team, however, led the male team with 10 points which could have been more had Nengi not missed a point for her love. Although their winning chances remained slim, Nengi‘s loss, which was in a bid to help Ozo with his question, was a particularly hard pill to swallow.

A question was asked on which of the housemates is ambidextrous (Writes with both left and right hand) and Ozo got a hint from Nengi who nudged her head to make him realize that she was the ambidextrous person.

The Challenge

The Housemates were asked to play in two groups. Group one – the gents group, while group two was made up of the ladies.

Each group played for a win and the winning group will get a special treat from Big Brother next week.

Though they were playing against each other, they were still playing for the House win. There were 40 questions and the House had to get at least 30 questions right to win tonight’s Challenge. As anticipated, tonight’s game tested their knowledge of one another. Each Housemate had an opportunity to answer two questions about a Housemate of the opposite sex and ach correct answer was counted as a point.

How well do they actually know each other? Is it too early to judge?

Given two rounds (and an opportunity to score a total of two points) on how well they know one another, here’s how the Housemates fared:

A Russian nurse who went viral for wearing just lingerie under a see-through protective gown in a male coronavirus ward has now become a TV weather presenter.

Nadia Zhukova, 23, was photoed in a transparent PPE as she gave patients their medicine sometime in May. She was initially disciplined for ‘non-compliance with the requirements for medical clothing‘ by hospital bosses who also threatened to fire her.

The nurse had complained that she was ‘too hot‘ in the hazmat gown and didn’t realise the PPE was so transparent.

Her punishment was later withdrawn after several Politicians defended her. At that time, politician Vitaly Milonov said,

‘No disciplinary methods should be imposed on the (nurse). There was no malicious intent…I’m sure she herself was embarrassed….

‘In no case should the girl be punished, I am sharply against this.’

Nadia has now been offered a role as weather presenter on her local TV station in Tula, south of Moscow, but will continue working as a nurse.

Speaking on her new TV role on Vesti Tula, she said,

‘It is a big thing for me. Thank you for letting me try.

‘My parents will watch, in the evening, after work.’

Earlier, she was also offered a role as a model for a Russian sportswear brand, Miss X lingerie but rejected the offer to focus on her medical career.

Two best friends diagnosed with brain damage at birth, beat 2% survival rate as they graduate from high school together

Two childhood best friends who have been quite close since birth have beat low survival rate after they were diagnosed with brain damage from birth as they recently graduated from high school together.

Doctors had told their parents that they only had 2% chance of survival. According to Fox 5 DC, the boys, Odin and Jordan, were born with a brain damage. The two best friends, who both have special needs, grew up side-by-side in Tyler, Texas.

Doctors had concluded they wouldn’t live very long — it was revealed that doctors said they had a low survival rate and even if they survived, they would be in a vegetative stage. However, they did beat the odds.

Both 18-year-olds have now received their high school diplomas together.

The news of the boys’ high school graduation began trending after Reddit user Tim Frost posted a side by side photo of his son Odin and Odin’s best friend Jordan on their first day of school and on graduation day.

In his words,

“My son and his best friend, both told their survival rate would be around 2%, never walk, and live in a vegetative state if they made it past 7 years, both walked the stage and graduated tonight!!! (Left pic is from the first day of school. The right is from graduation this evening)”

After the post went viral, Tim Frost – Odin’s dad – was invited for several interviews.

He explained that the boys met at Wayne D. Boshears Center for Exceptional Programs when they were just 3 years old.

“Their very first day of school, they were put in the same classroom,” Tim Frost, Odin’s dad, told CBS News on Wednesday. “They pretty much had this immediate bond. Neither one of them could speak, but wherever the other one was, they were always together.”

He told FOX 5 DC that the pandemic has cancelled Odin’s birthday and graduation ceremonies but positive and supportive comments from the community have lifted his spirits. He also hopes the post will reach Odin’s favorite band, The Roots.

She made the revelation while congratulating another couple with similar challenges, who welcomed a child.

However, much to the glory of God, Sarah was able to birth a set of twins, which she is over-joyous about, as she shared the news via Twitter and also revealed that they are now 9 years old.

Corpse of Tolulope Arotile, Nigeria’s first female fighter pilot who died after she was knocked down by her former classmate has arrived the Military cemetery in Abuja for burial.

Recall, Flying Officer, who is Nigeria’s first-ever female combat helicopter pilot, died at the age of 23 years after sustaining head injuries from a road traffic accident at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Kaduna.

However, Nigerian Air force unveiled the identity of the classmate who knocked down Tolulope Arotile.
