Popular Nollywood actor, Gideon Okeke has advocated for the abolition of “state of origin” which usually appears in forms or documents of a person’s profile.
According to the actor, abolishing “state of origin” will bring national peace because the term celebrates “Lines, Borders, Race and all”. He says our strength is in our diversity and as such, the term should be void.
The actor taking to his IG page alleged that Nigerians are not willing to let go of the coattails of tribalism, while adding that “commercials and radio Jingles are culpable of passing subliminal messages that are nuanced in ways that make one wonder if there are 3 Nigerians, 187 others or just 1 Nigeria.”
The actor wrote,
One Nigeria ! One Nigeria !!
But We’re not quite willing to let go of the coattails of TRIBALISM.
Even AD commercials/Radio Jingles are culpable of passing subliminal messages that are nuanced in ways that make one wonder if there are :
– 3 Nigerians or
– 187 Others or
– Just 1 Nigeria.
If You still regard your neighbor with these derrogatives :
– Omo-Ibo ,
– Ofemmanu,
– Nyammiri…
You might be RACIST. Or sold to BIGOTRY.
There’s a thing or two to learn from a small country called RWANDA.
Imagine a policeman stopping you for routine checks and he pops the question :
” What State are you from”…
Oga !! What purpose does that question really serve?

Former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has denied having any affiliation with embattled alleged fraudster, Hushpuppi.
Recently, ruling party, APC released a statement in which it urged the EFCC and other security agencies to investigate the links between Hushpuppi and some PDP chieftains.
The party in its statement stated that Hushpuppi has been photographed with Atiku and some other PDP stalwarts like Bukola Saraki, Dino Melaye, and Yakubu Dogara and so they should be investigated to determine if they have any link with the socialite.
Reacting to the statement by the ruling party, Paul Ibe, media aide to the former Vice President, said the photo of Atiku and Hushpuppi making the rounds was a mere photo-op and not at any meeting as is being speculated.
Read the statement from Ibe below,
It is curious that the All Progressives Congress is mischievously trying to link Atiku Abubakar to the alleged fraudster, Ramon Abbas, AKA Hushpuppi, simply because he was photographed with Atiku at an event where many Nigerians had gathered.
For the avoidance of doubt, it was a mere photo-op and not at any meeting as being ingloriously speculated. We would advise the APC and Mr. Nabena to be very mindful of such senseless statements in the future especially as the case under reference is a subject of litigation in another country.
Had they been more sensitive, they would have come to terms with the reality that the case is a national embarrassment – not something to cheer about for any political blackmail.”
A Nigerian journalist has shared his opinion on the acting dexterity of Nollywood actresses, Genevieve Nnaji and Adesua Etomi.
Gimba Kakanda on Twitter opines that veteran actress, Genevieve Nnaji is an average actress and there isn’t anything extraordinarily spectacular about her acting. He also said the same for Adesua Etomi but says her acting career is still quite early for her to be judged.
He wrote,
Genevieve is actually an average actress, there’s nothing extraordinarily spectacular about her acting. You should be talking about someone like Mercy Johnson if you want to talk about someone much more talented, and above the league of Adesua.
I watched Sugar Rush when it hit the cinema, and I didn’t find Adesua Etomi’s acting underwhelming as some have observed. She’s your everyday Nollywood actress, nothing spectacular but commendable. It’s too soon to judge her fairly because we haven’t seen the extent of her range.
Adesua is yet to be stretched in the fashion of, say, the incredibly talented Mercy Johnson. She’s unlikely to have Mercy’s range, and talent, but her difference with actresses like Genevieve is the one between six and half a dozen. She’s a Genevieve with less movies and stardom.

Head of states, President Muhammadu Buhari has lauded a Nigerian man, Ikenna Nweke, who displayed integrity by returning a missing wallet containing a huge sum of money as well as a credit card and other valuables in Japan.
Ikenna, an Imo State native, who is a PhD student at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and also a teaching assistant in the same university, revealed that he stumbled on the wallet while climbing the staircase to buy some items for his wife at the Tsukuba center.
“As I drew closer, I saw that it was a wallet. When I opened it, I saw a huge sum of money, a credit card, and other valuables. I immediately reported it to the police.
One of the officers was surprised and asked me why I did not take the money. I told him that there was no need for that because I was raised by responsible parents and that I am also a Christian.
He told me that according to Japanese law, I was entitled to 10% of the money found inside the wallet. Again I declined. The look on his face indicated bewilderment,” Ikenna said.
Nweke who is married with four kids disclosed the owner of the wallet called him to show appreciation and also got a letter from the Ibaraki/Tsukuba Police.
“They expressed their gratitude towards my incredible and selfless behavior. Not every Nigerian is criminal-minded. There are a lot of Nigerians abroad working so hard to erase the bad name given to “us” by the criminal few,” Nweke added.

The fifth season of the very popular reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, is set to launch on Sunday, July 19, 2020 on DStv 198 and GOtv 29.
Following the success of the previous seasons, BBNaija Pepper Dem, season five promises to be bigger, better and more explosive.
While the new season will experience some changes due to the peculiar circumstances in 2020, none of the excitement and entertainment of the show will be lost.
The sweep of the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the world required that the auditions for the show this year be virtual. In previous seasons, hall and auditioning centers across the country were usually packed full of young Nigerians vying for a shot at success at the BBNaija audition.
The organizers this year received over 30,000 entries from youths across Nigeria. While they are yet to reveal the number of housemates the BBNaija house will be seeing this year, there’s already a lot of excitement around who makes it. In 2019, the show had a total of 26 housemates.
Chief Customer Officer, MultiChoice Nigeria, Martin Mabutho said MultiChoice is committed to creating “a show that is COVID-19 free”, so they are taking extra precautions in line with the NCDC guidelines to ensure housemates’ safety.
Selected participants and potential housemates are already in lockdown and are quarantined individually ahead of launch and will not be in contact anyone before entering the BBNaija House.
In an online press briefing with media partners, the Chief Customer Officer revealed that the BBNaija prize money this year will be “the highest ever in the history of the show”, expectations are high as to what the winner of the reality show stands to win this year, the amount will be revealed in good time before the launch. The winner of the last season of the show in 2019, Mercy Eke, went home with the 30 million naira prize money.
The organizers have also promised that there will be “new elements for DStv and GOtv subscribers” this year and an even higher level of audience engagement in the show.
There’s a lot of excitement and anticipation for the new season of BBNaija despite COVID-19.
According to Martin, BBNaija will continue this year as a “show of our dedication to providing quality entertainment and value for our audience, while exporting Nigerian culture to the world.
