Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has asked the Federal Government to relax the curfew imposed in the state on Monday 27th of April, 2020 so as to enable residents buy food.
The federal government, via an address by the Head of States, President Muhammadu Buhari some days back, imposed a two weeks total lock down on Kano state following reports of mysterious deaths in the state.
The state’s governor has now appealed to the FG to ease the lockdown, because its residents are running out of food.
Ganduje made the appeal while inaugurating a panel of experts led by the president of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria Musa Borodo, to support the state task force technical committee.
He said,
“We would engage the presidential task force on COVID-19 to seek permission to relax the total lockdown imposed on Kano.
“We are making this appeal on behalf of our people who are presently running out of food items. We would love the federal government to relax the lockdown for a period of time to enable people stock their homes, especially now that majority of us are fasting. It will also ease the economic hardship in the state.”
About 10 days after lifting the nationwide lockdown, which prompted mass celebrations on their streets, Ghana has now recorded 1,032 new cases of coronavirus.
The Republic of Ghana has recorded more than 1,000 additional cases of COVID-19 since the country lifted its lockdown.
Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo lifted a three-week lockdown on the basis of “improved coronavirus testing”, on the 19th of April 2020, with the nation recording 1,042 cases, and 99 recoveries at that time.
But in a recent development, figures from the Ghana’s ministry of health yesterday showed that the country currently has 2,074 confirmed cases of COVID-19, out of which 212 recoveries and 17 deaths have been recorded, showing an increase in number of confirmed cases since the restrictions were eased.
Ghana is the first West African country to lift the restriction on movement of its citizens.
Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Ehanire Osagie has revealed that 113 Nigerian health workers have tested positive for Coronavirus.
The Minister shared this while responding to questions at the daily Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing on Thursday April 30. Osagie said the infected health workers represent about 6 per cent of the total 1,728 infected persons.
Osagie said;
“Latest figures we have is that there are about 113 people in the health sector infected with COVID-19. Although they are not all public health workers, there are good numbers from private hospitals.
“If you hear us speaking here frequently against trying to treat coronavirus in private clinics, we are actually referring to those people who do so without having necessary precautions and training because they risk infecting themselves and go home and give this infection to their family.
“Healthcare workers who have no training have no business handling coronavirus.”
A Nigerian doctor, Babafemi Taiwo is leading a major study on an antiviral drug named Remdesivir that appears to be effective in treating COVID-19.
CNN interviewed Dr Babafemi Taiwo to talk about the result of Remdesivir in treating Coronavirus. Preliminary results of Remdesivir show it can help hospitalized COVID-19 patients recover faster.
Though Remdesivir, an antiviral drug made by Gilead Sciences, appears to help patients with Coronavirus recover faster, it does not significantly reduce death, according to preliminary data from the National Institutes of Health.
“The data shows that Remdesivir has a clear cut, significant, positive effect in diminishing, the time of recovery,” the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr Anthony Fauci said during a meeting between president Trump and Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards.
Here’s a video of Dr Babafemi Taiwo speaking to CNN about the promising results of Remdesivir in treating COVID-19,

Nigerian singer, Reekado Banks had a brief heated exchange with one of his followers on Twitter when the latter tweeted his sudden realization that the singer actually makes good music.
@Famimora_ on the platform randomly tweeted that the singer actually makes good songs, but the context with which he made his stance known caused a debate among tweeps.
@Famimora_ had simply tweeted,
Lol. Reekado actually has good songs.
The interpretation of his tweet by the singer is what has tongues wagging on the microblogging platform… Reekado Banks interpreted @Famimora_’s tweet as one that is just coming to the realization that he “actually” makes good songs.
Obviously disgusted by the tweet, Reekado Banks resorted to coming for the guy by telling him that making good music is what he’s about and he’s been doing it for six years now.
He wrote,
What is the ‘lol’ for , what is the ‘actually’ for? Na my job, been doing it for 6yrs now. If you don’t expect me to have good songs, the joke is on you ! Musically, no one knows more than Don jazzy that introduced me to the game, so fuck you and the useless surprise.
@Famimora_ —possibly a man of few words— then responded by plainly calling the singer “an idiot” and stood by what he said. Following Reekado’s flare as regards the inceptive tweet, Twitter users have had mixed reactions to the whole saga.
Some people read no deep meaning to @Famimora_’s tweet as they considered it harmless and blamed Reekado’s flaring up on his “insecurities” which probably emanated from when he had a rift with Burna Boy a while ago… while others actually felt @Famimora_’s tweet was actually a subtle diss to the singer.

As the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus pandemic) takes an intense twist, with its prevalent negative effect on individuals, households, businesses and health systems, leading financial services provider, First City Monument Bank (FCMB), is stepping up the tempo of its interventions through various humanitarian gestures.
As a caring and responsive Bank, FCMB has ensured the stability of its robust digital channels thereby enabling customers to have full access to financial transactions and other services, while also helping the government, communities and individuals to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.
The institution’s intervention has been hinged on providing relief across a range of areas spanning across testing, the provision of PPEs (personal protective equipment), food for the very needy and ease of doing business for small and medium scale firms.
By far, FCMB’s most significant contribution – of N250 million – has been to the intervention initiative set up by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in partnership with the private sector, to assist the Federal Government respond effectively to COVID-19, known as the Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID).
The fund will also support households and businesses to mitigate the impact of the virus, through the building of isolation and treatment centres, providing personal protective equipment and distributing food to over 10 million of the most economically vulnerable Nigerians.
Also, FCMB is providing relief items to challenged individuals and households across Nigeria affected by the lockdown by working with various charities and state governments. The palliatives include Personal Protective Equipment for health workers and food items to sustain a large section of the population whose means of livelihood have been affected by COVID-19 and the prevalent lockdown.
In addition, the Bank has provided support to coalition, coordinated by Babban Gona Farmer Services Nigeria (an agricultural franchise), which aims to provide meals for 1 million vulnerable Nigerians every week. This will go a long way to sustain a large section of the population whose means of livelihood have been affected by COVID – 19 and the prevalent lockdown.
In partnership with 54gene, FCMB is also sponsoring the testing of 3,000 people in Ogun state to determine their COVID-19 status. This support is complementing the State’s effort to determine and mitigate the extent of the spread of the pandemic.
The financial institution is equally supporting borrowing customers by providing payment moratoria during this period, to ensure they are able to survive and continue to pay their workers.
FCMB has continued to distinguish itself through innovation and the delivery of exceptional offerings and the institution firmly believes that the nation will emerge stronger and much more resilient at the end of the pandemic.

Godday Robinson, 28 has been apprehended by men of the Ogun state police command for allegedly raping, stealing and attempted murder of a 17 year old girl (name withheld) who hitherto refused his love advances.
A statement by the spokesperson of the state command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, states that the suspect was arrested after a report was received by the policemen attached to Agbara area command that a young lady was lying unconscious in a ten feet deep pit in a nearby bush.
Upon the report received from the good Samaritan, the area Commander Agbara detailed his men to the scene where the young lady was rescued with the help of members of the public and was quickly taken to an hospital.
After she regained consciousness, the victim told the police that on April 22nd while she was coming from night duty which she performed in the company where she works, the suspect who has been making advances to her before, accosted her, capitalized on the isolated nature of the area and dragged her into the bush where he forcefully raped her, dispossessed her of her Galaxy Samsung phone valued at #85,000 and then strangled her until she passed out momentarily.
Godday who thought that she had died, dragged her further into the bush and dumped her into the pit. Thankfully, she regained consciousness and was able to call for help.
On the strength of her explanation, the area Commander ACP Bolanle Muritala gave a matching order to his detectives that the suspect must be traced and apprehended. The detectives swung to action immediately, traced the suspect and got him arrested on the 24th of April 2020.
When interrogated, Godday confessed to committing the crime but blamed it on the devil.

In a post she shared on her Instagram page, the mum of one said women should be careful when sending nude photos or videos of themselves to men because these men may send the images to other people.

Your crush may have a “confidant” who has a “confidant” who has a girlfriend he doesn’t hide anything from, who has a sister….. I’m sure you get my drift. Before you go ahead, be ABSOLUTELY sure you know who you are dealing with. Even when you are, anything could go wrong. His phone could get into anyone else’s hands. A Nigerian motivational speaker, Audu Mahmood is one of those men who believe that a woman was born so as to be the help of a man.
The speaker, who occasionally shares his opinion on Twiiter, took to the platform recently to opine that “men are generally rugged” and as such, it takes a woman to be in their life before they can become organized.
Audu says if a lady cannot tolerate a man with his ruggedness, disorganization and change his imperfection, then she is not worthy of being with a man.
In his own words which has mildly caused a stir on social media,
A Man is naturally rugged, he can never have an organized life until a Woman enters. His Imperfection can only become Perfect with the right Woman. A Woman was born to help a Man. Any Woman who cannot tolerate, organize and change the Imperfection of a Man, is not worthy of a Man
A young native doctor was filmed protesting after he was arrested for stepping out without wearing a face mask amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the video, the man is seen telling the members of the task force that he’s on his way to an important assignment. He was asked why he’s not wearing a face mask and he responded that he’s a native doctor and Coronavirus is not a threat to him.
He said he is not afraid of the virus and can treat patients if they are brought to him.
“This is my father’s land. This is my father’s land oh. Someone will be going on his way and you people will be subjecting him to abuse,” he protested as he was led to a canopy to sit.
“What you people are doing now has repercussions,” he warned the task force in Igbo.
“Look at my neck,” he said, pointing to the strings of beaded necklace he was wearing.
“The assignment I’m going on now is not something… What I’m going for is a very serious matter. I’m telling you the truth.”
“But why are you not wearing your face mask,” an officer asked.
And the native doctor responded: “I’m telling you that I’m a native doctor. I don’t have problem with diseases. I will treat that your Coronavirus. Bring me a patient.”
He continued after sitting: “You people are insulting your ancestors. You’re insulting the god of the Igbo land.”
He was offered hand sanitizer to apply on his hands but he rejected it, saying: “I don’t need that thing.”
He went on to speak about our ancestors and how they treated themselves with traditional knowledge.
He added: “If others are afraid of diseases, you will join them in being afraid of diseases.
“A White man will be scared of disease, you Africans, that are hardcore Igbolites and know that it is traditional, this is what we do, we are herbalists…”
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has said that the traditional cure for Coronavirus has reached an advanced stage and will be made available to the public very soon.
He said this yesterday, April 29, while speaking with journalists in Abeokuta, Ogun State, shortly after he donated two motorized modular fumigators to the state government. He also expressed optimism that Nigeria will soon win the war against Coronavirus.
Oba Ogunwusi said that he has gone far in working with the traditional medicine practitioners in the country to ensure a solution for Coronavirus.
He said though scientific solutions were being sought globally to end the pandemic, traditional medicine and solutions must also be considered and embraced as a way out of COVID-19.
The Ooni, therefore, urged the Federal Government to emulate Madagascar in its quest to use local herbs in combating Coronavirus, declaring that local herbs have the potency to heal victims of the virus.
In his remarks, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun commended the monarch for the gesture and assured him that the fumigators he donated will be put to good use.
Abiodun said the state was open to ideas and activities capable of finding a solution to the virus.
