The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has publicly corrected its earlier announcement of the total number of Coronavirus cases in Nigeria.
Recall that on Saturday night, the agency announced that Nigeria recorded 49 new cases of COVID-19, raising the figure of total infections to 542.
The NCDC has now made a correction and it disclosed that a new case was mistakenly reported in Ekiti. The error was blamed on the verification process.
A new tweet shared by the health agency, reads;
Yesterday, we erroneously reported one new case in Ekiti. This was wrong and was caused by an error in the verification process.
Therefore, as at April 18 2020, there are 541 confirmed cases, 166 discharged and 19 deaths.
Social media commentator, Reno Omokri has spoken against the popular African mentality that children bring blessing to a family.
According to the popular commentator, the saying has led to a massive overpopulation in poor nations.
He concluded his argument by saying children don’t bring blessings but rather, blessings bring children.
He wrote:
“The belief that children bring blessings has led to MASSIVE overpopulation in poor nations. Children don’t bring blessings. Rather, blessings bring children. You work hard and smart, and God blesses you, then you use the blessing to start a family.”
Nollywood actress, Sylvia Ukaatu, who once advised women to find a shield over themselves, which she believes can be found only from man, has told single ladies what to do if they cant find a man to marry them at age 38.
The actress and single mother of one is of the opinion that having a kid outside marriage, is the way out.
She made this known in interview with Sun News, asserting that if no husband is forth coming, women should try as much as possible to be pregnant and have a child.
“6yrs ago, I fell pregnant with my damsel, and friends advised that I should get rid of her and move on with my career. I asked myself which career will be better than having a child that I can call mine.
”Then I decided to keep her. Now, she has grown to someone I can gist with. Someone that I would look at and never back down on my pursuit for greatness,” she said.
She continued dishing out a piece of advice for women;
“If at 38, 39 and you are not married yet and you don’t have a child of your own, it is such a pity for you as a woman.
”Try as much as possible to be pregnant and have a child. Women don’t have time. At 35, some have already gone into Menopause.
”I do hear people say having a child or children outside wedlock is a sin. Don’t worry don’t be the judge.
”Those same people that you fear would mock you when you have kids out of wedlock would also be there to make jest of you when the days are dark.”

Her post on IG reads ;
I woke up today looking at my beautiful daughter n I’m so grateful to God ?? although it’s sad that d man she calls DAD isn’t her real father n I laugh at how I’ve wasted opportunities n years with a good for nothing man… I thought it was love but I was being played! I supported and encouraged him, accommodated him also even when I was warned by family n friends that he made me turn to enemies because he didn’t want me to see d light. LADIES BE CAREFUL OF THE MEN YOU SUPPORT….
I supported his career at d detriment of my relationship with family n friends n people who genuinely cared about me! I was constantly called a whore cos I helped him out with things he thought was impossible.. he always assumed I slept with people to get d things I have n to get to where I am today.. I got up, dusted myself, started communicating with important people I had ignored over d years, putting things together n setting things up to d level I want to be n God is making all that possible…. Thinking to myself, I should have achieved all of this a long time ago but love they say is blind, only if you let it blind your visions. No regrets whatsoever, God gat me n I’ll come back here in no time to drop a long list of my achievements but till then I’ll sit n sip my wine n laugh at how someone thinks he ruined me ?
As for my daughter, in due time I’ll show her what a REAL DAD is as Shes gradually erase d memories of a dead beat father she has in her head.. I’ll teach her to love her real father as she grows. LADIES AGAIN I SAY, BE CAREFUL OF D MEN YOU LET IN YOUR LIVES N D MEN YOU SUPPORT! Some are demons in disguise, Some stick around to drain you in all ramifications, mentally, physically, financially n spiritually.. Always seek d face of God before embarking on certain journeys. I don’t wanna go into details but time will tell.

The late Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, was hours from being discharged from the hospital on Friday before his condition unexpectedly took a twist and he never recovered, The Nation gathered on Sunday.
Kyari died at First Cardiology Consultants Hospital in Lagos on Friday from what the Lagos State government yesterday described as complications of Coronavirus infection.
Witnesses told The Nation yesterday of massive police presence at the private facility on the fateful day, apparently after he was certified dead.
Sources said Kyari had shown signs of recovery which was a sign that he could be discharged only for his condition to take a plunge.
It was learnt that he even received some members of his family Wednesday in the hospital and walked around his isolation area to show his fitness.
Members of the family were said to be expecting his discharge on Friday.
The complications in his health were said to have arisen from diabetes and respiratory tract infections.
The Lagos State government confirmed last night that Kyari died of complications.
It was also learnt that the late Chief of Staff neither consulted the Presidential Task Force on the campaign against COVID-19 nor the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) deciding on private treatment in Lagos.
Officials of PTF and NCDC only read the announcement of his relocation to a private hospital in Lagos like other Nigerians.
It was gathered that he did not avail himself of expertise advice by NCDC and medical teams.
A source said the family was confident that Kyari would survive the Coronavirus Disease.
The source said: “As at Wednesday, Kyari was seen walking round his isolation area when some members of his family came on a visit. His health improvement gave a ray of hope that he was fast recovering.
“In fact, words had gone round to his relations that he might be discharged on Friday. But he died following relapse, occasioned by diabetes and respiratory tract infections in the evening of Friday. How his condition changed for the worse shocked all the medics around him. He died between 9pm and 10 pm.
“So, he died of COVID-19 and underlying factors or complications.”
How he died, by LASG
Lagos State Health Commissioner Akin Abayomi confirmed that Kyari died of complications
The statement said: “Following enquiries on the passing away of the Chief of Staff to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mallam Abba Kyari on Friday 17th April 2020, the Lagos State Government states that:
“Mallam Abba Kyari died from complications of Coronavirus infection at First Cardiology Consultants in Lagos. This hospital is a Lagos State designated high care, biosecurity-compliant, COVID-19 facility, accredited by the Health Facility Management and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) of the Lagos State Ministry of Health.
“As a basis for accreditation, First Cardiology Consultants established a separate specialist wing with staff dedicated to the treatment of complicated cases of COVID-19, under the supervision of the Lagos State COVID-19 emergency response team.”
Kyari didn’t consult PTF, NCDC
The nation was also told that the late Kyari did not consult either the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 or the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) before opting for personal treatment.
A top source said: “We read his statement on his decision to move to Lagos for private treatment like every Nigerian. He did not seek any advisory from the PTF and NCDC.
“And since he said he did not want to overburden the public health sector, we allowed him to have his way. We could not have stopped him because it was a private health option and he went to a designated hospital for COVID-19 treatment.
“We respected his decision because of underlying health challenges he had which he wanted the hospital to manage with COVID-19.
“It was not the Federal Government that took him to the First Cardiology Consultants hospital in Lagos.
“In essence, he was not NCDC patient in the real sense of it.”
Witnesses: ‘We saw massive police presence at FCC’
Two Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) with plenty policemen and two ambulances were seen Friday evening at First Cardiology Consultant (FCC) Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos State, the private facility where Mallam Abba Kyari died, The Nation learnt yesterday.
The policemen, according to witnesses, were later allowed into the hospital through the back gate.
It was gathered that the massive presence of policemen in the usually calm neighbourhood, raised anxiety among the people and suspicion that a top government functionary was in a critical condition.
The Nation gathered that the policemen who were inside the SUV, alighted at the front gate, went inside and later returned with some officials to lead the vehicles through the back gate.
Investigation showed that Kyari’s presence in the hospital was treated with topmost secret.
From the main entrance to the hospital, it was observed something unusual occurred as the guards were very suspicious of movements around the facility.
At the gate, a notice indicating that the hospital does not handle COVID-19 cases was clearly pasted while visitors were notified of conditions to meet before entry can be granted.
Some relatives of patients were seen waiting inside their vehicles outside while a fruit seller displayed his wares inside a barrow just by a tree between the hospital and the British Council.
A woman who spoke to The Nation said they saw the SUV between 3pm and 4pm when they brought in her aunt.
She said: “We saw a lot of police people who came in two SUVs and there were also two ambulances with them. They were let in through the back gate. We did not know the person they came for but it was obvious it must be a top government person.
“This hospital does not allow visitors in. They do not even allow relatives of patients to come and stay with their loved ones. They only give you five minutes for visiting and after that, you come out.
“People are screened before they go in and they make it clear that they do not treat COVID-19 patients. Before they took our relative who had difficulty breathing and was on oxygen, we were asked to go for COVID-19 screening first.
“It takes three days for the result to come out and we had to wait. It was when the result came back negative that they accepted to treat our relative.
“So, people are surprised to discover now that Mallam Kyari who was publicly known to have COVID-19 was admitted here.”
A security man corroborated the woman’s story, adding that they were yet to understand what happened yesterday.
“It is true we saw so many policemen who came inside two SUVs on Friday evening. But we do not know what they came for. This hospital is very big and those who come here are rich people. As I am out here, I do not know what transpires inside and I cannot go and ask questions that could be suspicious,” he said.
When our Correspondent contacted the hospital on telephone after access to the premises was denied, it denied Kyari died there.
“Abba Kyari neither received treatment nor died in our hospital,” a front desk worker who picked the telephone echoed.
EU, ECOWAS pay tribute
The Head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS Ambassador Ketil Karlsen, said he was “deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Abba Kyari.
“My thoughts are with his family. He became a friend and was an inspiration with his passionate approach to development of Nigeria in general and the north in particular. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), in a statement by its Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said Kyari was an excellent administrator.
It said: “The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, received the news of the death of Alh. Kyari with great shock.
“The late Chief of Staff was an excellent administrator who was committed to the overall development of the nation through dedicated and loyal service not only to President Muhammadu Buhari, but also to the Nigerian nation.
“The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs commiserates with the President and government of Nigeria on this grievous occasion.
“It is the prayer of the Ummah in Nigeria that Almighty Allah would grant the departed Chief of Staff Al-jannah Al-firdaus. Amin.”
On his part, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume yesterday commiserated with the family, the Presidency, the people of Borno and the nation at large over the death Malam Abba Kyari.
While submitting to the will of Allah, Senator Ndume described Malam Abba Kyari’s death as shocking.
He said: “His wise counsel will be missed at such trying times. The loss of Malam Kyari who died in active service is a national tragedy and his innumerable contribution to nation building will always be remembered.
“I pray to Allah to shower His mercy on the soul of the deceased and give his family, the Presidency, Borno and the nation the fortitude to bear the loss.”
He urged Nigerians to adhere to the rules and regulations of the much dreaded Covid-19 as released by the NCDC in other to ensure a healthy nation.
Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has opened up on his much criticized open goal miss at the 2010 World Cup.
Aiyegbeni admitted that missing an open goal in the World Cup clash against South Korea ten years ago was the weirdest moment of his career.
Nigeria could have advanced to the round of sixteen if Yakubu had scored in the 66th minute in front of an open goal even though Nigeria lost their first two matches to Argentina and Greece and now the former Everton and Portsmouth striker says that moment was the weirdest of his career as he still gets insulted up till today because of the miss.
“Missing one of the chances of the decade of the World Cup in South Africa 2010, I still get messages everyday about it, sometimes some of them are being nice, sometimes some of them are being rude. ‘ Yakubu told South African journalist Carol Tshabalala via Instagram live.
“I just ignore them, some of them are looking for attention. In football you miss chances, they are thinking about the miss, they are not thinking of the joy you bring to people’s lives when you play.
“You miss chances in your clubsides and you still play the next game and people forget about it, but going back home you miss chances and people still think about it.”
Yakubu also named Everton striker Daniel Amokachi as his role model growing up.
“Growing up watching Amokachi was something nice, I call him sexy big brother. He’s a nice guy. He was the assistant manager of the national team as well when I was in the national team, so it was an honour to be with him in the same team, we didn’t play together there, we were very close.
“Watching him on TV, the way he bullied the defenders, the way he scores goals, you can see the smile on his face and the dedication is there.
Former Presidential Aide, Reno Omokri is against the popular African saying which says children bring blessing.
According to the popular social media commentator, the saying has led to a massive overpopulation in poor nations.
He wrote on twitter ;

Police Command in Abia on Saturday confirmed the arrest of an unnamed police operative for killing one Mr Friday Arunsi, a middle-aged businessman at his Ebem Ohafia community.
The Abia Police Public Relations Officer, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, who confirmed the arrest to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, said that police operative who killed the businessman was currently in detention.
Ogbonna said that the Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Ene Okon went to Ebem Ohafia on Saturday with a team to console the family of the deceased.
An eye witness, Sunday Onwuka said the policeman on Friday shot and killed Arunsi at his shop at Ebem, in Ohafia local government area of Abia.
Onwuka said that the late businessman and his uncle, Moses, were offloading their consignment of beverages from a truck at their store at Eni Njoku Street in Ebem when some policemen walked into the shop.
He said that the policemen told Moses and Arunsi to stop offloading their goods from the truck that brought the consignment but Arunsi and his uncle asked them why they should stop.
Onwuka said that instead of giving them a reasonable response, the policemen threatened them and later walked to the police station where they signed for a gun which they allegedly used to kill Arunsi on their return.
He said that in an attempt to save Arunsi’s life, his kinsmen rushed him to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia where he was confirmed dead late on Friday.
Another source, who pleaded anonymity, said when news of Arunsi’s death broke in Ebem on Saturday morning, the youths protested with his corpse on the streets of Ebem Ohafia, after it was returned home.
He said that instead of the police authorities calming the situation, they mobilized the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives to the scene of the protest.
The source said that before the SARS men arrived, the military men were calming the youths down until the SARS operatives shot at them and injured a barber, Okoro Kalu who is now in the hospital.
He said these chain of events involving Arunsi’s death and Kalu’s shooting made the youths to regroup and attacked the Ohafia police station which they broke into and released inmates.
He said that the youths then went and burnt Ebem Customary and Magistrate Courts alongside the police quarters, DPO’s residence and some vehicles in the compound.
NAN reports that Arunsi’s death brings the number of Abia residents killed by security agents since the lockdow began on April 1 to five.

Abia State government has arrested a suspected COVID-19 patient, Vincent Prosper, that was declared wanted yesterday.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information in the state, Chief John Okiyi-Kalu.
Prosper, who had disappeared after alerting NCDC of manifesting symptoms of COVID-19, was apprehended Saturday morning in Aba.
According to Kalu: “Prosper called to report that he was manifesting symptoms of the virus and recently had contacts with a confirmed patient in Akwa Ibom state in addition to recently returning from Lagos.
But when our team arrived at his given location, he disappeared and later confessed that he saw the ambulance and the fully kitted RR-team, lost courage, detested the possibility of being locked down and decided to switch off his phone and disappear into thin air.
