DSS detains man for using sim card previously used by Buhari’s daughter

Operatives of the Nigerian Department of State Service, DSS have allegedly arrested and detained a man, Anthony Okolie for purchasing a sim card that was previously used by Hannan, a daughter of Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari.

Okolie told The Guardian on Monday that he bought the MTN mobile phone sim card in 2018, two years prior to his arrest.

He was arrested on Monday, July 22 at Nnedisi Road, Asaba, Delta State.

Okolie was taken to Abuja by the DSS operatives and was kept in custody until his release in December 2019.

Efforts to get DSS reaction to the allegation proved abortive as phone calls and a text message to its spokesman Peter Afunanya were not immediately responded to.

Narrating Okolie’s ordeal, his lawyer Tope Akinyode said Okolie was detained for over 15 weeks by operatives of the Nigerian secret police. Akinyode posited that “the sim card became redundant and was recycled to the market for sale (after Hanan stopped using it).”

“Okolie lawfully bought the sim card after years of redundancy unknown to him who the previous owner was,” Akinyode claimed.

Akinyode said Okolie’s detention was unlawful because he has the receipt for the purchase of the sim card and all other documents pertaining to the sim card.

Okolie’s lawyer told The Guardian that in trying to get his client arrested, the DSS monitored his telephone conversation and initially arrested an elderly person who has a relationship with him until they later found Okolie.

“To start with, all the laws have settled that arrest by proxy is forbidden and unconstitutional in Nigeria,” Akinyode said, “Also, the arrest of the victim over a property which he lawfully obtained is outrageously illegal just as the long detention without trial amounts to unlawful detention.”

His claim is supported by Nigerian law. By virtue of the provisions of section 35(5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), section 483 of the criminal procedure Act and section 42 of the criminal procedure Code, the police ought not to detain any person for more than 24 hours without a warrant from a magistrate.

Akinyode disclosed that Okolie will proceed to court to file a lawsuit against the DSS and Ms Hanan Buhari, demanding compensation for the breach of his fundamental human rights.

“We are seeking legal redress on the matter,” Akinyode told The Guardian. “His (Okolie) detention for 10 weeks is unlawful and we will not accept such.”

A Saudi Arabian doctor of Nigerian descent who relocated to the Middle Eastern country after leaving his former job in Nigeria, has shared his experience after he received his cumulative of 4 months Salary in the Arab country.

@wakawaka_doctor on Twitter who revealed that he was doing two jobs and seeing a total of 100-120 patients daily while in Nigeria, said his monthly salary in 2013 was N118,000.

However upon relocating to Saudi Arabia in 2014, he was paid $4,500 – N738,000 – which would have been the rate as at 2014 – for seeing a maximum of 5-7 patients daily.

Reality tv star and cosmetologist, Kylie Jenner, has been dubbed a “disconnected Instagram hypocrite” after she shared a photo of herself rocking fur slippers shortly after sharing a post to raise awareness about the Australian wildfires and the animals killed in the fire.

The raging fires in Australia have claimed the lives of so many animals across the country – and according to reports in light of the fire, at least 23 people have lost their lives, 1500 homes have been destroyed and more residents are missing as reports suggest the fires show little sign of abating.

To raise awareness and sympathize with the people of Australia, Kylie re-posted a message on social media about the plight of animal deaths due to the fires.

Kylie’s Instagram stories show an image of a koala being rescued by a fireman with the comment “Over half a billion animals have been killed in Australia. This breaks my heart.”

Pastor reportedly stabs his wife to death during church service before killing himself in front of shocked congregation

A Kenyan pastor, according to reports making the rounds stabbed his wife multiple times during a church service and thereafter, killed himself with the same knife in a murder-suicide which was witnessed by a shocked congregation.

Last Sunday, 5th of January, 2020 Elijah Misiko, an assistant pastor with the Ground for God’s Gospel Church in Mombasa, left his front-row seat and approached his wife, senior pastor Ann Mughoi, on the pulpit and stabbed her with one of the knives he’d hidden in an envelope, police said eyewitnesses told them.

“He walked up to his wife while the church was praying as if he wanted to whisper something to her,” Mombasa sub-county police commander Julius Kiragu said. “Then he took one of the knives and stabbed her (wife) two times. He believed she was dead. He then stabbed himself three times in the stomach and slit his throat.”

Misiko died instantly from his stab wounds and Mughoi died at a local hospital a few hours later, police said.

The couple had been engaged in a long-running feud over the ownership and leadership of the church, Julius Kiragu told CNN.

Back in 2017, Misiko was detained by the police in Mombasa after his wife alleged he planned to kill her. The following day, he was released after police said they found the accusations untrue.

The couple, which had four children, had lived apart since the dispute began two years ago, police said.

“She had been trying to stay away from the husband since the dispute over the ownership of the church began,” Kiragu told CNN. “They had even reported the matter to church leaders but they were unable to resolve the dispute.”

Misiko left a 17-page suicide note in which he accused Mughoi of changing ownership of the church, which he said the couple founded, to her name alone, police said.

A physically challenged Nigerian lady, Blessing Ocheido, who made headlines in October of 2019 for calling out an airline over an alleged destruction of her wheelchair and subsequent negligence, has sued the said airline for N100m.

The Nigerian lady said she decided to sue the airline after they allegedly refused replacing her wheelchair even after her lawyer wrote them in November 2019, a month after the report went viral.

According to Blessing, she’s had enough patience with them and now she feels the court is their last resort.

She took to her Facebook page to write,

I just left the courthouse with my lawyers where I officially filed a suit against Asky for damaging my motorized wheelchair in August, 2019 and adamantly refusing to fix or replaced it.

I am suing them for N100 million damages and I am being expertly represented by my lawyer, Barr. Firsts Baba Isa of FBI LEGAL who took up the matter pro bono. Please help me thank him for his kind gesture and thoroughness in ensuring that justice is served at the end of the day.

He wrote to Asky in November asking them to replace the damaged wheelchair but they have chosen to remain adamant and heartless. We gave them more than enough time to respond to our demands but it is apparent that the courts are our last resort. We have been patient enough.

Some members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, better known as Shi’ites, took to the streets of Abuja earlier today to protest the recent killing of Iranian military commander, General Qasem Soleimani, by a United States airstrike on the 3rd of January this year.

The protesting members of the Islamic group seized the opportunity to also demand the release of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat who currently are in detention.

Chanting hate songs and slogans like “Death To America.”, the protesting Shi’ites also set ablaze a US flag which impeached President, Donald Trump’s face on it.

A Facebook user identified as, Fanta Boy Ekwem from Umuchu, from Anambra state shared on a Facebook Group on Monday, how his younger sister ‘insulted him’ and even ‘fought back’ after he demanded to know why she did not wash his clothes as he instructed.

Fanta Boy argues that his sister is not fully married, as the fiance only came for introduction and paid her bride price. The Facebook user stated that she still lives in their family house and will remain there until her fiance concludes the final traditional rights on Easter day.

I don’t normally bring up my family issues online but I have to do this for you guys to judge it, because everybody who were here when it happened was on her side.

She is married and so fucking what? Am just so sad this morning, this thing that happened today won’t end just like this I swear.

We have four girls in our family two out of the four girls senior me, and I senior two, one of the girls who I senior got married(the guy just did introduction and small something on her head) she is still in our family because the guy is yet to finish up the traditional rights according to the igbo culture.

So yesterday I was going out I bring out my Dirty clothes as you can see it on the pictures, I told her to wash the clothes for me so that today I will go back to base with them. She didn’t talk to me I left. I came back in the night and went to bed I didn’t ask of the clothes I told her to wash.

This morning I woke up around 6AM to park my things so I can start going back to Lagos, I called her to come and give me the clothes she washed for me, she didn’t even talk to me. I said okay let me go to the back yard to check if she sprayed it there. I met my cloths on the same spot I left it for her to wash yesterday.

I asked her why didn’t she wash my cloths for me, she didn’t talk to me again, I told her to leave whatever she is doing this morning to wash my cloths for me or else I will deal with her. Immediately I said that she started running her mouth. Saying things like…”don’t you know that am married now(imaro na m alu go di) why will you tell me to wash clothes for you, now is not that time please don’t disturb me(all these was what she was saying). I said to her “which kind yeye married you marry?

she started insulting me, a girl I senior with a year and 6 months talking to me this way? I got angry and hit her, I couldn’t believe it she fight me back and tore my cloth.

Am crying not that she beat me but my people were siding her, everybody was against me, why will I tell her to wash clothes for me. I should give her some respect as a married girl.

You guys should judge this, not that she is fully married to the man, she is still in our house the man is coming on Easter to finish up the traditional rights…..Look at my cloth how she tear it.

Founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, , says Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will come under ‘much more pressure’ in the New Year.

The cleric spoke on 2020 prophecies at his church on Sunday.

In the past year, Prof. Osinbajo was accused of getting funds from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and laundering it on the pretext of electioneering. He denied it vigorously.

T.B. Joshua, however, called on the nation’s number two citizen, who is also a pastor, to be more prayerful.

“Let us pray for the Nigerian government to be able to finish this year without an interlude that will cause a situation of for and against. Join me in praying for my nation,” he said.

“Vice President, it is not yet over. Expect much more pressure. The pressure will be so much. I pray you will be able to stand the pressure. We join you in prayer.”

The preacher warned governments of every nation to “watch out and put a check on pharmaceutical drugs that come to their country,” adding that a common medicine will become epidemic, and would cause people to commit suicide.

He added: “This year will be a year of humility. This year, the Lord will humble us with our challenges. Challenges can be affliction, arrogance, pride, wickedness or bad habits. To humble us with these is for those things to destroy us or expose us. Let us move closer to God.

“Many sicknesses and diseases that leaders have been treating privately will surface this year. They will become bedridden and many will not make it.

“Russia should pray for their leader to avert his being on the sickbed. Something will surface. There is a ladder to go up – if this is averted.

“An incident will happen to the nation Iran that will cause panic throughout the world. We are praying to know the mind of God concerning this.

“Work of God – people will be getting tired this year because the work of God is not by power and might; because of so many challenges, tribulations and burdens they will not be able to bear.

Daddy Freeze countered Pastor Adeboye’s son, Leke after he took to Instagram to defend the payment of First Fruit Sacrifice and First Fruit Increase.

In a short video shared by Leke on Instagram, the Redeemed Christian Church of God General Overseer’s son stated that First Fruit Increase offering is the payment of the added money on one’s income in a new year. He also disclosed that First Fruit Sacrifice is to give all the salary/income one earned in the first month of a new year.

Leke insisted that payment of each of the offerings is optional and all depends on one’s relationship with God.

However Daddy Freeze who appreciated Leke for giving a detailed explanation of the offerings, countered him on the premise upon which the doctrine is based. He dared Leke to show Christians where payment of First Fruit was recorded in the Bible.

Daddy Freeze also wondered how Leke’s example of the First Fruit sacrifice Abraham gave is related to money.

Abraham was given the sacrifice of a ram by God who counted his faith as righteousness for obeying him. This sacrifice of yours in my opinion is not in obedience to God, rather it’s the propagation of man made ideas as commands from God (Mark7:7), so it cannot be counted as righteousness.

A married woman has shocked Facebook users after she applied to travel to Italy with Amara Nwosu’s ex-husband, Francis Van-Lare, hours after condemning his post.

At first, when Van-Lare put out the offer to take a married woman with him to Italy for a week and settle her husband with $2,000, a woman named Praise Effiong condemned it and also condemned women indicating interest.

But after a while, she went ahead to send in her application while claiming she has spoken with her husband and he’s OK with it.

She said she has two kids and has been married for 3 years. She added that her husband works off-shore and he’s on board with her plan to travel with another man.

This has shocked Facebook users and they are calling her out for her hypocrisy.

Movie director, Seun Egbegbe, was the toast of Nollywood and everyone wanted to be his friend. Some actresses even became his lovers.

For film-maker and producer, Olajide Kareem, aka Seun Egbegbe, who was Ebony films CEO, life was at its best and he enjoyed it to the peak.

A former lover of actress, Toyin Abraham, Seun Egbegbe was a big spender and every actor who mattered ate from his palms.

His last birthday party in 2016 held on Sunday June 5, 2016. It was much talked-about and everyone scampered for the Aso Ebi. Present at the shindig were actresses which included Liz Dasilva; Adediwura Adesegha; Regina Chukwu; Nkechi Sunday; Iyabo Ojo, producer/actor Saheed Balogun; Bimbo Success and a host of others. Who wouldn’t want to be on the guest-list when Egbegbe bankrolled most of the movies churned out that year?

That was before he went to jail on February 10, 2017.

Immediately Egbegbe’s travails begun, his Nollywood ‘friends’ forgot him. None mentioned him again and the once loved benefactor became ‘leprous’ and none wanted to touch him with a long pole.

In fact, when he clocked another year in July 2019, none sent a birthday shout-out on social media. Every of his ‘beneficiary’ in Nollywood kept mum and ignored his handle on Instagram.

But then, an actor, Leye Kuti, took to Instagram and wrote, “It’s so funny how people forgot the good you did to them, we were never close but I can pick point you helped a lot of people in that industry and they can not even celebrate you on your birthday it’s so sad… me n u be fighting mate but bcos I know u get good mind I will celebrate you today Hbd @seunegbegbe… I know after they see dis 1 now them go gossip as usual… I pray freedom visit you soon and God will use u for good amen ? am not celebrating is wrong part trust me? but I think he can learn more now and change to be a better person… ( he never do anything for me before I no chop him money ooo) God will touch and make you win souls for God… we have heard about some pastors from bad act to men of God.” (sic)

The 43-year-old, whose wife had a baby while he is still in prison, had been arrested for allegedly obtaining money by false pretences from no fewer than 40 bureau de change operators in different parts of Lagos from 2015 to 2017.

Egbegbe allegedly swindled the BDC operators out of the money by claiming that he had naira to change into foreign currencies and vice versa.

The erstwhile Lagos socialite, whose affair with Toyin Abraham ended with a messy drama which went viral online, had been arraigned by the police for a series of fraud involving N39,098,100, $90,000 and £12,550.

Egbegbe and one Oyekan Ayomide were first arraigned on February 10, 2017, before Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, on 36 counts bordering on advance fee fraud.

On February 24, 2017 Justice Oguntoyinbo granted each of them N5m bail with two sureties in like sum.

Already, Egbegbe has spent over 30 months (two years and nine months) in prison after he failed to meet the N5m bail granted him by the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Orezi demands N100M as damages from Bolt over car accident

Nigerian singer, Orezi has demanded 100 million naira from ride-hailing app, Bolt, formerly known as Taxify after a road accident that damaged his Jaw a month ago.

According to the singer, on the morning of December 6, 2019 he was rushing to meet up with a flight to Delta State for a performance, so he took Bolt at about 5:30am in the morning and all of a sudden he woke up to a crash on Third Mainland bridge.

The singer, through his lawyers ‘Abimbola Fakeye Chambers’ has now written a letter of demand to Bolt, requesting a sum of One Hundred Million naira as damages.

According to the letter: “the unnecessary hardship, loss of income, medical bills spent and more importantly, death scare arising from this incident has necessitated this letter and we have been instructed to employ every legal means to recover adequate and due recompense”.

American rapper, Cardi B seems serious on becoming a Nigerian citizen, as she begs Nigerians to convince her husband, Offset to move with her.

Last week, the 27-year-old American rapper and mother of one announced in a tweet that she is filling for her Nigerian citizenship while reacting to the death of Qasem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Unit who was killed in a United States airstrike ordered by President Donald Trump.

Now, she has taken to her Twitter page to appeal with her fans to help in convincing her husband, rapper Offset to also file for Nigerian citizenship with her.

A US-Based Nigerian man, Francis Van-Lare has made an offer that may be hard to turn down.

Francis, who is also Amara Nwosu’s ex husband made the offer to Nigerian men, and it is currently trending on Facebook.

Francis who is based in the United states, promised to give any Nigerian man $2,000 in exchange for him to spend a week with their wives in Europe, Italy.
