Nigerian Big Man, Mompha, was granted bail by a federal high court, yesterday and he was celebrated on social media by some celebrities.
However it seems that same energy has not been kept for two other embattled Nigerians in the persons of Allen Onyeama and Omoyele Sowore.
Last week, Allen Onyema, the chairman of Air Peace Limited, was indicted by the United States government on November 19 on charges stemming from an alleged $21 million fraud.
While others are claiming Mr Onyema’s popular repatriation of Nigerians stranded in South Africa amidst deadly xenophobic attacks in September didn’t go down well with some ‘evil minded’ Nigerians, yet no celebrity is speaking out for him.
News of Allen’s arrest elicited an instant chain of conspiracy theories specifically targeted at exonerating the accused by stoking fragments of political, religious and ethnic division, some even say it was also politically-motivated.
For Sowore who has been in custody for months for planning to stage a revolution, only few celebrities spoke out on his behalf.
However, yesterday, the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos granted N100m bail to, Ismaila Mustapha, aka Mompha, over alleged N33billion fraud.
The EFCC had arrested him on October 19, 2019, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. He was remanded in the commission’s custody following a court order.
And guess what our Nigerian celebrities are jubilating already and celebrating the alleged fraudster because …..well you know why!
Actress Nkechi Blessing, on hearing news of Mompha’s bail, quickly took to her social media space to write ;
“Freedom at last.. to those that bashed me earlier and some even said he will die in prison..are you GOD? Pray you don’t find urself in such situation…Aiye Toto Aiye Akamara,But Las las God Win”.
While Bobrisky, and some others couldn’t hide their excitement as they were over the moon for his release.

Actress and filmmaker, Dayo Amusa has lamented over not making any money from Nollywood even after shooting 12 movies and still counting.
Amusa in the interview with The Sun disclosed that she does other things that generate money for her but however expressed hope of making money from Nollywood someday.
“I do a lot of things that generate money for me. I have always done business even before I came into Nollywood and I am still in business. I came into Nollywood as an actress before becoming a movie producer and to date, I have shot 12 movies and still counting. Truth be told, I have not made money from Nollywood yet. After 12 movies I have not made the kind of money that I should make but I know I will make it. You see, there is a difference between making a huge profit and then, just getting your money back on your investment. I haven’t broken even” she said.
She also disclosed that her major challenge is that her movies are not yet being shown in cinemas.
“I love doing good movies and putting up good content. I think my major challenge now is that my movies are not showing in all cinemas in the country like I hoped and it saddens me. Their excuse is that my movies are indigenous and the titles are local but I am like ‘we get to watch foreign movies indigenous to different parts of the world yet subtitled and these movies are been shown in our cinemas so I ask the question ‘why can’t we encourage our local content?’ I want to believe that even if a movie is 100 per cent indigenous, that does not stop it from showing in cinemas as long as the movie is well subtitled.
“It has greatly affected me as an independent film maker, I do most of my productions from my purse. It is not like I get grants and it really eats moviemakers up when we don’t get the opportunity to showcase what we have.
“Even if they feel we are not getting it right, there is a way they can inform us that this is what you need to achieve this and that. But they just label it local content, indigenous this and indigenous that, giving what we do all sorts of names but the fact is, when you preview a job and story wise you have it, picture wise you have it, quality wise and artistic whatever you have it, then why the barrier? Why can’t such a movie be seen in all cinemas across Nigeria.
“But they are giving excuses that when cinema going audiences hear the title, they will not like it. Who says so? Yes, a title could have a very positive impact on a production but a title is a title, be it local or English or what have you. An indigenous title cannot stop a good film from flying at the box office,” she adds with emphasis.

An unnamed tea vendor has stabbed one of his customers to death following a disagreement over N100 bread.
The incident happened at 10pm on Monday November 25, at Juba Alaro Junction off Liasu road in Idimu, a Lagos suburb.
The deceased, Peter Nwala had gone to the tea vendor’s kiosk to buy fried egg, tea and bread when he complained about the bread’s bad taste.
He was said to have explained to the Hausa tea vendor that he would not pay for the stale bread.
His refusal to pay for the bread, according to sources angered the vendor who reported him to a nearby suya seller, who stabbed him with a dagger.
‘’He paid for other food items except the bread. It was when he wanted to leave the place that the tea vendor signalled the nearby suya seller, who brought out a dagger and stabbed Peter to death.’’
The incident was reported to Ikotun Police Division.
Sources said police have launched a manhunt for the culprit.
‘’The police have contacted the leader of the Hausa community in the community and he has promised to produce the culprits.’’
An impeccable police source however said the deceased was stabbed by the vendor in retaliation.
‘’The boy (deceased) was an alleged internet fraudster who had been arrested in the past by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). He went to the tea vendor’s kiosk to buy fried egg and was said to have refused to pay the man.
‘’ He took a stick and hit the tea vendor who insisted he must pay for the food. When the tea vendor could no longer bear the brutality, he motioned to his colleague who took a knife and stabbed the boy(Nwala) in the back leading to his death a few hours later at a hospital.
‘’Friends of the deceased then launched into violent attacks on Hausa traders in the neighbourhood but we quickly deployed our men there and restored normalcy. However, we are still looking for those who killed the boy and the police is engaging the leadership of the Hausa community in the area to ensure that peace reign and apprehend the culprits,’’ he added.
A prosecution witness, Peter Ademola Adegoke, a Compliance Officer with Fidelity Bank Plc, on Friday, November 29th told Justice Abdullai Liman of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos how the sum of N18bn was allegedly paid into the account of a company, Ismalob Global Investments, belonging to Ismaila Mustapha, also known as Mompha.
Mompha was arraigned on November 25, 2019, on a 14-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N33 billion. Adegoke told the judge that evidence showed that Mompha was the sole signatory to Ismalob Global’s naira account.
Reading from the firm’s statement of account, Adegoke told the court that between 2015 and October 2019, there was a total inflow of N18.5bn into the account, while a total of about N18bn moved out within the same period.
He said the account had a balance of N598,000. At Friday’s sitting, the first prosecution witness, PW1, Anne Nnenna Ezekannagha, a Manager in the Customers Service Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, told the court that Mompha’s company,
Ismalob Ventures, was not registered with the CBN and that he did not have the license to operate as a Bureau de Change operator.
Led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, Ezekannagha further told the court that “We got a letter from the EFCC on the activities of Ismalob Global Ventures. “However, we have no history of the name with the CBN.”
She said for the CBN to license a firm as a BDC operator, such firm must show evidence of incorporation as a limited liability company by the Corporate Affairs Commission. She explained that all licensed BDCs have a transaction limit of $5,000.
When the defence counsel, Gboyega Oyewole SAN, asked her whether it was unlawful for an individual who has foreign currency in his domiciliary account to give foreign currency to a friend in exchange for naira, the CBN official said it would not be unlawful if it was not a commercial transaction.
She said it becomes a commercial transaction if it involves making profit and it would be illegal.
A Benin City-based BDC operator, Ikenna Okafor, who testified as another prosecution witness, told the court that he did business with Ismalob Global Investment Limited through “one of its directors, Alhaji Ahmadu Mohammed.”
Okafor said Mohammed used to come to his base in Benin, Edo State, to buy Euro in the name of Ismalob Global Investment Limited. “After negotiation with Ismalob Global Investment Limited through Alhaji Mohammed, he usually makes payment into my account through Ismalob,” Okafor said.
Under cross-examination by Oyewole, Okafor said he met Mompha for the first time three days ago at the EFCC office in Ikoyi. The BDC operator said he was detained for seven days by the EFCC before being released on an administrative bail during the week.
