A 21-year-old Nigerian boyfriend of a teenager who died after she got pierced in the chest after falling on to a knife inside her handbag, was jailed for her manslaughter.
Oluwaseyi Dada, who pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 17-year-old Katrina Makunova, was sentenced to two years and three months at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 31 January.
Miss Makunova died during a row with Dada, falling on to a 19.5cm knife she had inside her handbag, which pierced her chest and heart, with the blade penetrating about 17.5cm, the court heard.
The court had heard how Dada and Makunova had been in a relationship that had recently deteriorated. A series of social media communications between Dada and Katrina were obtained by police from the victim’s mobile phone. These posts showed there was a feud between them, with both parties making veiled threats and insulting each other.
On 12 July 2018, Katrina had gone to the lobby of a block of flats on Brisbane Street where Dada lived. The pair encountered each other on the ground floor and a struggle began.
During the course of this altercation both of them fell, but unfortunately Katrina was carrying a knife in her handbag. Katrina fell onto the handbag, causing the knife to pierce the bag and then stab Katrina in the chest.
Police were called at 12:16hrs to reports of the incident and on arrival officers found Dada and administered CPR to Katrina.
The London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance also attended. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Katrina was pronounced dead at the scene at 13:02hrs.
A post-mortem examination took place on 14 July 2018 and gave cause of death as a single stab wound.
Dada was arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene and subsequently charged with manslaughter on 13 July 2018. Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith, who described the case as an “extraordinary case”. told Dada:
“She died from a single knife wound. The kitchen knife that caused her death was hers and had, it seems, been brought to the scene by her in a handbag you had given her. It appears that somehow in the struggle between you and her, the blade of the knife was pushed through the bag from the inside and tragically pierced her chest and heart. There is no evidence that you ever touched it before she received her fatal injury.”
On hearing the sentence, and that Dada will serve half of it before being released on licence, one of Miss Makunova’ s relatives shouted,
“Are you serious?
“It’s a f****** joke. She was 17 years (old). One year for my sister. It’s a f****** joke.”
Other family members broke down in tears.
They all left court followed by police liaison officers, and further shouting could be heard from outside the courtroom.
The judge said Dada had helped to build up “the tension” ahead of the confrontation between them, which “was expected to be so serious” that Miss Makunova arrived with a knife in her handbag.
The incident happened in Camberwell, south London, on July 12 last year, at the block of flats where Dada lived, after the pair exchanged heated and threatening texts.
Relations between the couple, who had dated for two years, had become increasingly turbulent and in the months leading up to Miss Makunova’s death, she made several allegations to police of assault and harassment against Dada, the court had heard.
The judge said,
“Doubtless you expected that she would be armed and so you did confront her, you grabbed her handbag. In the course of the struggle you took hold of her, pushed her and she fell.”
The judge added that the confrontation “could so easily have been avoided” if Dada had stayed in his flat or left the building.
Messages declaring “let the party begin”, “I actually dare you to come in”, “So are you bringing people yes or no”, and “am gonna burn your mum right now”, were among the heated texts which were sent in the build up to the incident.
The judge told Dada:
“These messages must be seen in context of other messages sent by you a few days earlier that read ‘Don’t piss me off’, ‘Is cause no-ones been touched u think I am a joke’ and ‘Don’t play that game before I stab you’.”
Dada had denied producing a knife in the past, the court heard. Police had become involved “no less than six times” in the last months of the couple’s relationship.
The judge noted that the last incident happened on June 26, in which “there was no dispute” Dada threw a drink over her, just days before Miss Makunova died, and was still being investigated by police.
Dada’s family had been sitting separately on the other side of the court and away from the public gallery. Dada looked towards his family and then at the victim’s family before he was led away.
Detective Inspector Domenica Catino, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said:
“A young woman has lost her life and our thoughts remain with her family and friends, who have been devastated by Katrina’s death. This case is a tragedy for everyone involved. This was a case of manslaughter in which the victim had taken a knife to the scene. After an altercation with Dada this knife – which had never been taken out of the bag – pierced the bag, stabbing her in her chest resulting in her death.
“This is unfortunately another sad example of the consequences of carrying knives. We must all work hard to prevent any further loss of lives.”

On the morning of the 1st day of February 2019, Nigerians woke up to an incredible amount of youths storming the 8 audition centers for this year’s edition of Big Brother Naija.
Nigerians have in light of this, started blaming the ASUU strike, joblessness and the government for the turnout of youths at the audition centers.
According to a twitter user,
‘the crowd at the #BBnaija auditions is proof of our flawed value system and our failed government. I am not against anyone going to audition for it, but when this is what majority of our youth see as a way to escape poverty, then we have a serious problem’.

Imagine coming out like this to shut down this year’s election because of ASUU strike. Let’s see if the Federal government won’t respond ASAP. #BBNaija

We have more details about the 15-year-old who was married off to an allegedly demented man from the wealthy Igwilo family in Ozubulu community in Anambra state. (Read Previous Post Here)
Activist, Prince Harrison Gwamnishu, who visited Anambra state after the story went viral, said the said girl is from Ihiala community and is actually 15 going on 16.
Harrison in an interview with LIB, said the girl is from a very poor family and that she had a child when she was in primary 5 and had to quit school. Her family couldn’t continue sponsoring her education and also taking care of her child so they decided that they were going to marry her off to Izuchukwu who came recently with his family members to ask for her hand in marriage. Acording to the family, they believe no one would come for the little girl’s hand in marriage since she has a child.
Harrison says the Igwilos really want Izuchukwu to get married and also have children of his own, hence they have accepted to have the girl come into their family with her own child. Izuchukwu’s brothers, who are said to be wealthy, have pledged to sponsor the girl’s child and any children she and their brother will have together.
The traditional wedding of Izuchukwu and the teen girl is slated for Easter this year and, according to Harrison, a lot of money running into millions of Naira has been budgetted for the ceremony.
A young nutrition expert in Manhattan identified as Tara Condell hanged herself in her West Village apartment after posting a suicide note online in which she apologised to her mother.
27-year-old Condell, from San Francisco was found dead with a cloth around her neck inside the bedroom of her home on West 10th Street around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after police were called to the residence for a wellness check.
In addition to the note left on her website, Condell left another suicide note in a folder in her living room. Condell who, according to her website, is a registered dietitian nutritionist specializing in general nutrition, weight management, gastrointestinal disease and diabetes care, apologized to her mother at the end of the note posted to her site, saying, “I’m really sorry mama.”
“I Hate The Word ‘Bye,’ But See You Later Maybe?” “I have written this note several times in my head for over a decade, and this one finally feels right. No edits, no overthinking. I have accepted hope is nothing more than delayed disappointment, and I am just plain old-fashioned tired of feeling tired.”
“I realize I am undeserving of thinking this way because I truly have a great life on paper. I’m fortunate to eat meals most only imagine. I often travel freely without restriction. I live alone in the second greatest American city (San Francisco, you’ll always have my heart). However, all these facets seem trivial to me.
“It’s the ultimate first world problem, I get it. I often felt detached while in a room full of my favorite people; I also felt absolutely nothing during what should have been the happiest and darkest times in my life. “No single conversation or situation has led me to make this decision, so at what point do you metaphorically pull the trigger?” Condell wrote.

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) on Thursday said it has initiated Legal Action at Federal High Court to stop President Buhari from participating in 2019 election over what it described as “his Mental and Physical instability.”
In a statement signed by Ikenga Imo ugochinyere, Cupp, First National spokesperson, and Co-Plaintiff and CUPP member, Eunice Atuejide, the CUPP also “raises alarm over DSS plot to flrame, arrest, charge and eliminate Opposition Spokesperson Ikenga to stop him from releasing fresh evidence of plot to steal 5b from DSS election account by former DG DSS lawal Daura, and indicting documents of false assets declaration by key Buhari government appointees.”
According to the statement, “the Opposition political parties have carefully studied President Muhammadu Buhari over the months, especially since his return to the country after the sickness that took him out of Nigeria for the better part of 2017, and have come to the conclusion that he is no longer mentally and physically fit to lead a nation like ours in this century.”
The CUPP went further to provide examples to prove that President Buhari is not truly fit to carry on with the office and functions of a president.
The statement reads in part,
“A few recent examples will be necessary here. One, you will recall how the President almost fall flat on his face during his recent campaign visit to Lokoja, Kogi State. Despite that he flew into the town, the few steps the President took at the rally venue had a huge toll on him. When he was invited to the podium, he lost balance immediately he stood up. It was the timely intervention of his aides who were already keeping their eyes on him since they know his health status, that saved us what would have resulted into a national disaster.
A few days after the Kogi episode, a similar scenario played out at the venue of his campaign rally in Kaduna. After he trekked a short distance to his seat, President Buhari was clearly exhausted. He was still managing to wave to those who were already at the venue when he suddenly sunk heavily into his seat even at a time the national anthem was being recited. The seat was his saving grace on that occasion.
Still on his uninspiring ongoing re-election campaigns, we are all witnesses to the embarrassment President Buhari subjected the country to in Warri, Delta State. When it was time for him to present his party’s flag to the State governorship candidate, Great Ogboru, the President embarrassingly referred to the man as “the presidential candidate.” After those who surrounded him corrected him, President Buhari again referred to Ogboru as “the senatorial candidate.” Again, he was corrected and he came up with the most embarrassing one by saying the man is the “governortorial” candidate. The President must be using a different dictionary because the word “governortorial” does not exist in any good dictionary.
You will also recall when he featured on a town hall meeting called “The Candidates” which was broadcast live on the Nigerian Television Authority. Among his various goofs at that event was when he was asked why he is seeking second term and he said since the party leaders chose him, he had to run.
All those who watched that programme will recall how Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo who featured with him struggled very hard to come to his rescue whenever he goes off the track which he did many times. This probably explained why his men did not allow him to participate in the presidential debate organised by the Nigeria Election Debate Group and the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria.
We have come to the conclusion that re-electing Buhari will only empower members of the cabal that his wife admitted has hijacked his Presidency, to rule us for another four years from the dark.
In order to save this great nation the disaster that will follow if President Buhari is in a rare happenstance re-elected, we the opposition political parties have therefore filed litigation in court seeking to declare him unfit to contest for 2019 election because of his mental instability.
We are also seeking from the Court an Order disqualifying President Muhammadu Buhari from contesting the election to the office President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and an injunction restraining INEC from recognizing his candidacy. Nigerians will also be glad to know that to prove that we are on the right path, we are also asking the court to grant an order directing President Buhari to make public the results of the medical examination which we ask that he be subjected to so that no citizen will be in doubt that we are saving the country from calamity by taking these steps.
Stopping President Muhammadu Buhari from foisting himself on Nigeria come February 16th by every legitimate means is a patriotic service to Nigeria.
God forbid we fail! God forbid! God forbid! God forbid!”

Following the crash of his less than two years marriage to London-based socialite, Yetunde Oduwole, in 2013, actor Tayo Babatunde Bernard aka Baba Tee’s second marriage has also hit the rocks.
The crisis of his marriage was brought into light by his now ex-wife, Dupe Odulate, who he proposed to in 2015, shortly after his much publicized drama with Oduwole, which saw her cursing him.
Dupe’s turned a year older recently and after fans stormed her page to wish her a happy birthday, some also questioned why her husband was found wanting in celebrating her, it was then she took to her page to state that herself and the actor are no more.
The cause of the actor’s marital crisis is still foggy as at the time of filing this report and the actor himself is yet to react to the reports.
“Women don’t like each other. Please, quote me, Nollywood is one of the worst places to have female friends.Because most female actresses see genuine compliments as something else. The worst are those who are doing better and well paid, endorsements and all, with the fame, yet they still say rubbish about other actress in the industry”
“Every battle I have faced in Nollywood is surrounded around women. It’s that bad. They believe once they have made it, nobody else should. These big actresses (the A-List). They are scary. Seriously. You would be in your corner, thinking they are all made and won’t stress it again. But they are the ones that are more jealous. Even on set”.
She also touched on what she looks for in the opposite sex.
She said, ”I have always looked out for someone who fame doesn’t entice or affect. One wouldn’t consider it a problem. I want someone who would be patient enough to know me and not look at me from the movie angle. I would love someone who sees me as Nazo and not an actress all the time.Well, I’m not a physical look kind of person but then you won’t be looking like masquerade though”.

The Lagos state police command have reportedly apprehended a man believed to be the leader of a gay group, and a teenager for engaging in homosexuality.
Prince Chinecherem, 32, is reported to be the ringleader of a gay gang who indulge in their illegal acts in Lekki, Lagos police claim. He was apprehended alongside a 16-year-old boy.
According to Lagos state Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, Chinecherem was using the teenager as a commercial sex worker. Not only was Chinecherem having sex with the boy, he was also pimping him out to other gay men.
Edgal also revealed that both Chinecherem and the teenager were found to be HIV positive after a test was carried out, which means their customers are likely to have contracted same through them.
The police have declared two prominent male pastors and some business executives wanted for allegedly having gay sex with the teenager, – a minor.
It was gathered that Chinecherem during interrogation, gave the identities of other members of the group including the prominent persons being hunted.
Explaining how Chinecherem and the teenager were arrested, Edgal told newsmen that a teenager was seen sneaking out of Chinecherem’s house at Ejigbo in a suspicious manner on the 22nd of January.
Suspicious neighbours approached him and asked what he had gone to do in the house but he could not give a satisfactory answer. The neighbours asked him to open a bag he was carrying and in it was used condoms with semen inside.
Edgal added,
At this point, the boy revealed that Prince Chinecherem was his lover. The matter was immediately reported to the Police at Ejigbo and the said Prince Chinecherem was arrested for interrogation.
After preliminary investigation, the matter was called for further enquiry by the Gender Section of the Command.
Both the suspects and the survivor were taken for medical examination and the result revealed that the survivor has long been introduced to homosexual act. The worst is that both of them are infected with HIV virus which causes AIDS.
Edgal said the suspects would be charged to Sexual and Special Offences Court in Ikeja and that the boy had been sent to health counselors for health talk on how to manage the situation.
Social media was set abuzz earlier today after it was revealed that the acclaimed sold out concert by Nigerian singer, Davido was not actually sold out but ‘nearly’ was.
All the while, the singer had kept mum to the reports until moments ago he took to his page to share something that can be considered a receipt to prove that he indeed sold out the arena.
A mail was sent to the management of the 02 Arena asking to confirm if indeed the singer’s event was sold out and in response, the management stated briefly and concisely that the event was sold out.
Davido then shared the screenshot of this mail on his page as he says ‘our people like amebo’ before going on to state his next agenda of performing in the United States.
He wrote alongside the screenshot,

Big Brother Naija 2018 housemate, Leo Dasilva took to Twitter to criticize corp members who go to the studio with their NYSC uniforms and certificates for a photo shoot, asking what the end game of the whole session was.
Leo was certainly not expecting the response he got from a female follower who went hard at at him.
Replying to the model’s tweet, the follower reminded him that he went all the way to the beach with cameras to shoot a movie “for the gram”, so he’s in no position to criticize corps members.
The follower was referring to the “surprise” breakfast Leo organized for CeeC on her birthday.
In a new Instagram post shared on her page, gorgeous Nollywood actress and mother of one, Tonto Dikeh gushes over her rival turned friend, Mercy Johnson and explained the reason why they were rivals before.
It’s no news to fans that the duo are now cordial with each other but it’s not forgotten so easily that they were sworn enemies – Tonto has now explained the reason why things were the way they were.
According to her, their feud was childish and it was because she was envious that Mercy Johnson was the only one who could act better than her in the Nigerian movie industry.
She said she has now realized that to be herself is better so she has stopped wanting to be like Mercy.
Sharing a throwback photo of them together, Tonto wrote,

Actress Uche Jombo took to her social media space to ask what a age should a child be allowed unsupervised access to the internet.
Knowledge is power, and the Internet can teach kids all manner of topics but not without the supervision of their parents.
What age do you think a child should be allowed unsupervised access??
Technology is the future,I know the importance of making sure our children are highly skilled in this digital age but the harsh reality is ….unless you are going to supervise your child’s online activities they are not safe…the true danger lurking in the burgeoning number of children’s internet chat rooms ( social media / gaming chat rooms) I know most of these apps say 13years and above (which kids can lie about to create profile) (Today is such an eye opener for me) Story for another day. Can we please discuss the right age for our kids to get on internet (social media and gaming chat rooms) unsupervised.

A Nigerian gentleman has taken to his Facebook page to share screenshots of the chat he had with a slay queen who tried to advise him to stop advertising his data selling business online.
The young man identified as Mfoniso Isong on the platform shared that the unnamed lady messaged him on WhatsApp and tried to advice him to stop selling data online because he is disgracing himself and his family.
The lady also told him to look for a dignifying job even though the gentleman categorically told her that the hustle pays his bill.
Things took a different twist after Mfoniso offered to give her 2GB of data for free after her unwarranted advice.
Much hasn’t been heard of the 37-year-old mother of one and Mavin records songstress, Tiwa Savage who is known to be very active online.
One of the popular questions being asked on Instagram today is the whereabouts of Mama JamJam who appears to have strangely gone cold online.
The last time (as at 2pm today) she posted on Instagram was on the 27th of December, 2018 which is very unlike the busybee.
On the 28th of December, she took to Twitter to announce that she had lost her voice and her fans sympathized with her accordingly.
“We’re entering February 2019 now and she’s still away. We hope she’s on vacation somewhere and resting. But if you see her, help us tell her: We miss you Mummy JamJam!” one of her fans on social media posted.
The reasons behind her low profile are still based on speculations and rumours.
Tiwa Savage has been described as one of the most hardworking female artistes in Nigeria and she has stayed so relevant over the years.
Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Okoro has stated that the reports which say she was used and dumped by several men is nothing but fake news.

A married South African woman, Sophie took to Facebook to share the sad story of how her 4-year-old son was killed by armed robbers on Monday, January 20th.
Read her heartbreaking post below:
“On Monday,8:30pm,20th January, young 3 arm robbers with guns walked into our back yard, broke the glass door and get into our house.they take everything in our home freely and killed our son with his little pajama on. This tragedy left me and my husband devastated and traumatized to the extent we felt like we’re bad parents. Ethan was shot and survived two surgeries before his life was ended, First surgery was successful and when the Docotr came out to say Eth is breathing himself that was the best news I have ever received through that night..but after the second surgery, bleeding was too much,my Son had suffered severe internal injuries to the extent blood was not cloting And that leads to his death. Doctor came and call me and my husband to come and say our last goodbyes to our son whilst the heartbeat was going down to 0 and finally dead. I had never imagined in my whole life Eth would dead at some point and leave us,I was always seeing myself died at a late age and leave Eth as an independent grown man..but I was wrong.. I was lying to myself. Me and my husband we’re hardly trying to cope with the situation but it real feels like a dream..we find ourselves crying all the time,we blame ourselves maybe we would have done something extra to save our son’s life..alot is going on in our mind . This is the life that we knew and loved so much prior that night. Ethan was a very shy little boy, intelligent, affectionate, friendly and he had a missing baby teeth, and always like to cuddle with his mom. That was how the life of our little sweet boy was cut short ,the light candle of happiness into our little family was shot to death. Until we meet again,my Eth you will always live in my heart.
