Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says he can do whatever he pleases with his money after the uproar generated by the bullion vans seen at his residence.
Just a day before the election, viral pictures on social media showed two bullion vans driving into Tinubu’s residence, as many people looked on — just outside the residence.
After voting in Alausa on Saturday, Tinubu was asked about the vans, in relation to the ongoing elections, and he said: “Bullion vans? Are those ballot paper?”
“Excuse me, is it my money or government money? I don’t work for the government, I am not in [any] agency of government. Let anybody come out to say I have taken any contract from the government of President Muhammadu Buhari in the last five years,” he said. “They should prove it. I am on my own, and I am committed to my party. So, even if I have money to spend in my premises, what is your headache?
“Excuse me, if I don’t represent any agency of government and I have money to spend, if I have money, if I like, I give it to the people free of charge. As long as not to buy votes.
“So, who are those watching my house and looking at Bullion vans? They must be mischief makers, they report falsehood, their lies are numerous, and it’s because they are jobless.”
Weeks before the election, the former Lagos State governor was caught on tape telling supporters of the APC that they would be handsomely rewarded if they delivered their wards.
The police has yet to react to the presence of bullion vans at his home even as Nigerians took to social media to slate the Governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele, for colluding with the ruling APC.

“Whatever is going on is known to God. We are still together. He has never discussed all what he has been saying outside with me, so I don’t understand what he is driving at because we sleep in the same house. Asked if Sunday was displeased because she no longer gave him money, Olajumoke said,
“Now you understand what I have been saying. I do not need to break it down beyond that; you already know what I mean. I will not say anything bad about him. I have handed him to God.”

Boko Haram members have prevented Yobe state governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, from voting.
A statement from the Director General, Media affairs to the governor, Abdullahi Bego, said the early morning attacks by the sect members in the state prevented the governor from partaking in the exercise. He said the security agents advised the governor to sacrifice participating in the election.
This is because of the incident in Gaidam town early in the day, which has already been brought under control and voting is now underway there, the security agencies would naturally seek to reinforce and increase security around the governor for him to travel to cast his vote.
“That increased security around the governor will mean that vital security resources that are needed elsewhere in the state would have to be diverted and allocated to the governor.
“The government made the decision – in consultation with the security agencies – that it is better and more useful for the security agents, including soldiers, police, Civil Defence, DSS, etc to focus their attention on providing security for the election throughout the state.
“As things stand now, voting is going on successfully across the state and His Excellency Governor Gaidam is pleased and grateful to the people for the large turnout at polling units throughout the state”.
