Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt’s Zonal Office, on Wednesday, February 13th, arrested five suspected internet fraudsters in a sting operation. Their arrest was based on intelligence reports of their alleged suspicious activities.
A statement from the antigraft agency says the suspects are Emenike Ulu, Uchenna Samuel Nwogu, Kelvin Ogbonna, Richard Uduma and Collins George Isilabo.
They were all arrested at No.22 Alcon Estate, Liberty Street, Woji, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Items recovered from them include, one Toyota Highlander Jeep, five laptop computers, Internet modems, eight handsets, two hard drives, ATM cards, title documents, cheque books and two International Passports.

The management of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma in Edo state, has suspended the Chairman of ASUU branch of the University, Dr. Monday Igbafen over alleged gross misconduct bordering on sexual harassment and threats of sex for marks.
Leadership reports that Igbafen’s suspension order was contained in University’s News Bulletin, dated 13th February and signed by the Deputy Registrar information/Public Relations Officer, Edward Aihevba, titled “Suspension of Dr. M.L. Ugandan, associate professor in the department of philosophy.”
The statement reads in part:
“The university community is hereby informed that Dr. M. L. Igbafen, Associate Professor in the department of philosophy, has been suspended from duty, following his arraignment before the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee (SSDC) on allegation of gross misconduct bordering on sexual harassment and threats of marks for sex.
He had earlier been accused of this offence and an investigative panel set up, which found him culpable and indicted. Recently, there was petition by the family of the female student involved, asking that Dr. M. L. Igbafen be brought to book, failing which the university management would be reported to ICPC for failure to act.
On receipt of the petition, the University management asked for his comments. His response was found unsatisfactory. He was therefore arraigned before the senior staff disciplinary committee (SSDC)…As due process demands, he has been suspended from the university, pending the determination of the allegation leveled against him.
He is therefore not allowed to participate or be involved in any university duties, activities or functions, except those related to senior staff disciplinary committee (SSDC) during the period of suspension”.
Reacting to the allegation levelled against him, Igbafen said he was being framed by the school management.
“If you have been monitoring development in AAU, Ekpoma, you will not be surprised that a paper like that is coming from the university administration. It is the climax of a desperate Vice Chancellor who has so many things to hide, which we will bring to the press. We have been battling the Vice Chancellor who wants to impose himself to the University. I am doing my job as ASUU Chairman, there have been several attempts to compromise me, but I refused, and when they discovered that they are unable to compromise me, the next thing is to resort to blackmail.
Ask the Vice Chancellor, when did this issue of sexual harassment happened. The issue at stake is an attempt to cow the ASUU Chairman. We will address a world press conference to address the issue.”

A statement from the antigraft agency says the suspects who were rounded up at about 9.35pm on February 11, 2019 include, Chimezie Paul, 19; Oluwakayode Adebayo, 25; Mustapha Akeem, 19; Ezedigboo Paschal, 19; Mustapha Suleiman, 21; Mohammed Umar Faruk, 25; Abolarin Samuel Sunday, 23, and Anolarin Ridwan Gbolahan, 25.
Among items recovered from them were laptop computers and mobile phones.

14 Suspected Undergraduate Internet Fraudsters in EFCC Net
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office yesterday arrested 14 suspected internet fraudsters believed to be undergraduates. They were arrested in Awa area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The suspects are: Igberase Hope Odianosen, Afolabi Wasiu, Odeneye Eniola, Olajide Timilehin and Ogunnowu Samson. Others include: Olaniyi John, Ogunyale Elijah, Mohammed Ogungbe, Alaga Sherif, Soyombo Omogbolahan Ridwan, Adedoye Odeko, Shonibare Kayode, Akindunjoye Solomon and Dalamu Kofoworola.
They were arrested at their residence following series of intelligence reports on their alleged involvements in cyber crimes.
Items recovered from them at the point of arrest included: two Highland cars, over 100 SIM cards of different GSM networks, laptops, telephones, international passports, fetish objects and several documents containing false pretenses.
They will be charged to court as soon, as investigation is completed.

A 44-year-old man identified as Rafiu Moruf, has been arrested for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s six-year-old daughter at their home located behind Aferiku Secondary School, Idiroko in the state on Monday February 11th.
A statement released by the spokesperson of the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the victim opened up to her mother after she noticed her daughter’s awkward movement.
“Upon close examination, the woman discovered semen inside the girl’s private part. She questioned the girl and she revealed that the suspect took her into his room and had carnal knowledge of her. The woman reported at the Idiroko Police station and detectives went to the suspect’s house where he was promptly arrested.
On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime. The victim has been taken to hospital for medical treatment and report” Oyeyemi said

An African black leopard also known as ‘Black Panther’ has been spotted in Kenya for the first time in 100 years.
Biologists captured the rare footage of a big cat strolling in Kenya, making it the first time the animal has been photographed in Africa since 1909, more than a century ago, in Ethiopia.
Nick Pilfold, a San Diego Zoo global scientist, said they captured the footage after months of watching and waiting.
His team of biologists had placed remote wildlife cameras to track the leopard when they heard unconfirmed reports of a possible black leopard sighting.
“We intensified our camera placement in the area the reports were being made. Within a few months, we were rewarded with multiple observations on our cameras” he said The female leopard’s coat color is pitch black as a result of melanism, a gene mutation that results in an over-production of pigment, Pilfold said.
It’s the opposite of albinism — and although the leopard’s coat appears black during the day, its rosette patterns are visible in nighttime infrared imagery.
