The remains of the five Nigeria Air Force personnel killed on board an MI-35 helicopter that crashed during combat in Borno state on January 2nd, were today laid to rest at the National Military Cemetary Abuja.
Flight Lieutenant Perowei Jacob – Pilot in Command, Flight Lieutenant Kaltho Paul Kilyofas – Co-Pilot, Sergeant Auwal Ibrahim – Flight Technician, Lance Corporal Adamu Nura – Gunner and Aircraftman Meshack Ishmael – Gunner, were on board the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Mi-35M Helicopter which crashed in combat on January 2nd while providing close air support to troops of 145 Battalion, Damasak in Borno State.

They were all over social media discussing happenings in the Big Brother House situated in South Africa , as if our country Nigeria had no serious issues to be talked about.

Did the organizers decided to not hold the show this election period so as to allow youths concentrate on participating in electing new leaders who will help them put an end to sufferings like deaths from killer Fulani herdsmen ? Or were they pressured not to hold the show by the powers that be?
The show would have been a good avenue for politicians to campaign ahead of the elections. Imagine an opposition politician like Atiku showing up at the Big Brother House on eviction night when millions of Nigerian youths will be glued to their TV screen.
That would be a huge opportunity to showcase himself. This could be one of the reasons why the show is not holding now.

Egypt has won the right to host the 2019 AFCON tournament, and this was announced after CAF’s executive meeting in Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday morning.
Egypt was announced as host of 2019 AFCON tournament after Cameroon were dumped as hosts late last year.
Though South Africa and Egypt were the only two nations to submit bids for the tournament, which is only five months away from kicking off, North African media outlets had predicted an Egyptian win long before the announcement this morning.
While Egypt last hosted the AFCON in 2006 – for South Africa it was 2013 – they’ve hosted on four occasions in total compared to South Africa’s two.
The football tournament between African countries, has been expanded to 24 nations and has moved from the usual January slot to June.
Cameroon was however stripped of hosting rights, because of delays in infrastructure and security concerns.

2018 was a financially successful year in the Nigerian movie industry and a list has been made of 10 movies which have been tagged the 10 most financially successful of the year.
The list was published in an industry book by the National Film and Video Censors Board presenting Nollywood at a glance.
In 2018, a total of 87 movies were released for cinematic pleasure by the cinema film distributors that include FilmOne distribution, Homeland Films, Genesis Cinemas, Silverbird film distribution, and Blue Pictures distribution.
It was also noted that the figures include sales from Ghana viewing of the Nollywood films.

Recall, Williams Uchemba was called out for scamming innocent Nigerians, while he posed as a United Nations Youth Envoy.

A UFC fighter Polyana Viana waiting for her taxi in Rio de Janeiro may have appeared an easy target to a would-be thief, but he grossly miscalculated.
The only problem for the unfortunate thief was his target was a strawweight UFC fighter, who turned the tables on the thief with punches, a kick and a “rear-naked choke” before forcing him to sit and wait for the police.
Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Polyana Viana, nicknamed “the Iron Lady”, told website MMA Junkie the thief used a fake gun to try and steal her mobile phone while she waited outside her apartment block on Saturday night.
“When he saw I saw him, he sat next to me,”.
“He asked me the time, I said it, and I saw he wasn’t going to leave. So I already moved to put my cell phone in my waist.
“And then he said, ‘Give me the phone. Don’t try to react, because I’m armed.’ Then he put his hand over [a gun], but I realised it was too soft.
“He was really close to me. So I thought ‘if it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it.’ So I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick. He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke.
“Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said ‘now we’ll wait for the police’.”
Viana said police took the man to a medical facility to treat his wounds and then to the police station, where she filed a report.
UFC president Dana White applauded Viana, tweeting an image of the fighter alongside the mugger.
“On the left is @Polyana_VianaDF, one of our @UFC fighters and on the right is the guy who tried to rob her #badf***ingidea,” White tweeted.

A scared Nigerian military cadet has been caught on camera refusing to jump from a height during training.
A video has shown the moment mild drama ensued after a Nigerian cadet during refused to go through a process voluntarily during a military training. In fact, the military student was very scared of jumping from a height during the training despite being aided with rope.
In the trending video posted online, a superior can be heard telling him that nobody will push him and he must jump by himself because it’s courage the military needs. However, despite all the persuasion the cadet was still very afraid to jump.
Hid colleagues and other military officers mocked him heavily at the training ground.

A calf which was born with just one massive eye is now reportedly being worshipped as a god in #India. The deformed newborn, from the Bardhaman district of West Bengal, has one single large eye and no nose at all.
The deformed animal was said to have been rejected by its mother – but then adopted by locals who are now caring for it.

Manchester United players want Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be given the permanent position as club manager in the summer, the UK Mirror reports.
Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho in December and has been appointed as the caretaker manager until the end of the season.

The actor who appears to be spreading his tentacles beyond the entertainment industry, launched a new hotel in Owerri.
In a post on his Instagram page on Sunday, January 6, 2019, Daddy Showkey revealed that Osita Iheme had opened a beautiful hotel in the heart of Owerri, Imo State.
He went on to appreciate him for the business venture, advising folks to always show support for others when they start a new business.

Diepreye, the wife of the Nigerian Air Force pilot, Flight Lieutenant Perowei Jacob, who was killed in the Mi-35M Air Force helicopter crash in Dakwamba in Borno state on Wednesday January 2nd, has said that she learnt of his death on a WhatsApp status update.
Diepreye and her late husband had their wedding in December 2018 and three weeks later, he was killed in the crash.
In an interview with Punch, Diepreye said the WhatsApp status update was that of her husband’s colleague, who was unaware that she had his number. She said she did not see the death of her husband coming, having just been married to him.
“My husband left for the trip five days after we got married and since he left, I’ve been alone. We spoke before he took off on the trip. When I tried his number at night, it was not going through and I switched off my phone afterwards. The following morning, I tried reaching him again, but it still was not going through. I went on WhatsApp and I saw the picture of my husband and his co-pilot with the caption: ‘Rest in Peace’ on the status update of one of his colleagues, who didn’t know that I had his WhatsApp number. When I saw it, I was so shocked that I threw my phone away in disbelieve. I picked it up again and went through it. Just as I was about running out of the house, the commander arrived to confirm my fear.” she said
The heartbroken widow said she and her hubby dated for two years before tying the knot.
“We had been together for two years before we got married. Aside from his life as a military officer, my husband was a very jovial person. He was free, open-hearted, kind and loving; not just to me, but to everybody around him. He did not like to see unhappy people around him. He was the kind of person that even if it was the last dime on him and someone else needed money; he would give it out even if it was not convenient for him. I will miss his jokes. There was a way we communicated, which was unique to the two of us; I will miss that. I will also miss the way he related with people. To me, he was the best pilot I knew; so, I never put the risk of his job to heart coupled with the fact that we just got married; I did not see his death coming.
“It was an honour to be married to him; I am proud of being married to him as the man of my dream. He affected many lives positively and people have been putting in so much efforts to support me. I want my husband to be remembered for dying for the country; he died a hero. I want the world to remember that and accord him and the other soldiers due respect.” she said

Dino Melaye has finally spoken from his hospital bed, days after he was he was arrested he slumped at the police headquarters in Abuja.
On Monday, the police visited Dino Melaye at the police Hospital in Garki, Abuja, where he had been since January 4th after he slumped at the police headquarters.
The police had the intention of discharging Dino and taking him to a court in Lokoja but Dino said his Blood Pressure is high and he still feels dizzy.
Dino and his thugs have been accused of attempting to murder a police officer in July 2018.

World Bank President Jim Yong Kim resigns. He announced that he would step down next month, more than three years before his current term was due to expire.
The decision ends Kim’s six-year tenure and may give US President Donald Trump decisive influence over the future leadership of the 189-member global development lender.
“It has been a great honor to serve as president of this remarkable institution, full of passionate individuals dedicated to the mission of ending extreme poverty in our lifetime,” Kim, 59, said in a statement.
Kim, who became the bank’s president in 2012, is to join an unnamed firm focusing on investments in developing countries, the bank said in a statement, and will return to the board of Partners-in-Health, which he co-founded.
World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva will serve as interim president upon Kim’s February 1 departure, the bank said in a statement.
Under Kim’s leadership, the bank set the goal of eliminating extreme poverty by 2030 and ramped up financing. Last year, it also won approval for a sharp $13 billion capital increase after acceding to requests from the Trump administration to curb loans to high-income countries like China.

Kevin Spacey was all smiles as he arrived in a Nantucket courtroom on Monday morning to face the charge of felony indecent assault for allegedly assaulting an 18-year-old at a Nantucket bar.
The former ‘house of cards’ actor was arraigned on a single count of Indecent Assault and Battery, which carries a sentence of up to five years in jail.
Before the case, he was seen chatting and laughing with his lawyer. When his case was finally called in front of the packed courthouse, a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.
The judge then ordered Spacey not to have any contact with the alleged teenage victim or his family.
Spacey’s lawyer has said there are text messages exchanged between the alleged victim and his girlfriend at the time of the incident and later as well. The alleged victim told cops his girlfriend didn’t believe he was being assaulted by Spacey so he sent her a very short Snapchat video, showing a hand on clothes but not on genitals.
But Spacey’s lawyer claims the actor’s contact with the 18-year-old was consensual, pointing to what he claims was 3-minutes of touching without the young man ever objecting.
Spacey’s lawyer and the prosecution got into an argument over a discovery motion as Spacey’s team wanted the judge to preserve all of the alleged victim’s texts and cellphone records with his then-girlfriend from the July 2016 incident until today. But the prosecution was willing to offer up phone records just for the day of and after the alleged assault. Spacey’s lawyer wants the entire texts and phone records preserved because he said he believes those texts were “likely exculpatory” and show proof that Spacey didn’t assault the then 18-year-old at a Nantucket bar.
The session was over in no time and less than 10 minutes after he arrived, Spacey was heading back to the airport to fly home.
The pretrial hearing in the case was set for March 4, but Spacey will not have to appear in person and can instead call in to the court.
President Buhari has said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has since 2015 consistently conducted free and fair elections, assuring Nigerians that his administration will uphold the standard by ensuring “non-interference”.
“We have insisted that votes must count and have maintained a policy of non-interference in elections,’’ the President said at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the International Conference Centre.
“INEC has so far since 2015, conducted fair and credible elections in 195 constituencies nationwide, which have been attested nationwide to be qualitatively better than previous elections.
“Let me reiterate my commitment to free and fair elections. If there is one legacy I want to leave is the enthronement of democracy as a system of government. And for democracy to be enthroned, elections must be free and fair. That means citizens have a right to vote,’’ he added.
President Buhari told members of the Presidential Campaign Council that, with 40 days to the elections, the task before the council would be herculean as they would have to cover all corners of the country to sell the achievements of the party in over three years, pointing out that Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu would oversee all operations.
“I must also add that, though we will all be deeply involved, I would like to assure the nation that I will do my part without making governance or my work suffer. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, my co-chairman, will be fully in charge, and he is going to be on 24-hour vigil,’’ he said.
President Buhari also noted that the operational buck of the campaign stops at Asiwaju Tinubu’s table, urging all those in the leadership of the campaign, in the field operations on the campaign trail and in the secretariat to consult with Asiwaju whenever guidance was needed.
The President said the campaigns must be conducted with high level of decorum, urging the council to resist all forms of provocation and remain focused as they engage citizens on issues, while asking them to compare the results on economy, security and corruption with past administrations led by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
According to President Buhari:
“We have in the last 3 years and 6 months reversed this downward slide that the PDP took us in its 16 years of misrule. We have restored the territorial integrity of our nation, thanks to our gallant men and women of our armed forces. We are systematically engaged in all the remaining corridors of insurgency, kidnappings, robberies, herdsmen and farmers clashes.
“We have reset our national values: corruption is no longer condoned and is no longer seen as normal for public office holders. The agencies of government are no longer equivocal in dealing with anyone who flouts our laws.
“The high and low are receiving jail terms, loots are being recovered, and Nigerians are increasingly displaying the timeless values of honesty, honour and decency. I congratulate us all for making these changes possible.’’
The President said Nigerians can already testify to the infrastructural development across the country with prudent management of resources and the economy, listing roads, railways and improved power supply as signposts of a growing country.
“Our government has succeeded in the last four years in halting national drift, removing the shadow of insecurity and fear dominating our life and reviving our economy from decline to stability and growth,’’ he noted.
