Suspected ‘Yahoo Boys’ arraigned in Enugu
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Zonal Office on January 15, 2019 arraigned two suspected fraudsters, Nnamdi Madu, 24, and Darlington Ifeakachi Nwali, 24, before Justice A.M. Liman of the Federal High Court, Enugu on a 10-count charge bordering on “intent to defraud and possession of fraudulent documents containing false pretences” contrary to Section 6 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.
A statement from the anti graft agency says the suspects were arrested on December 14, 2018 during a raid on the hideout of several members of a syndicate of fraudsters operating within Enugu metropolis mostly made up of University students and dropouts, who were observed to be living flamboyantly, above their means of livelihood.
Analysis carried out by the Commission on the computers of the suspected fraudsters revealed a number of incriminating documents intended to be used in swindling unsuspecting foreigners. Some documents in the recovered computers of the suspects were titled “SPANISH HASTING WARD CAREY & CHAMBERS,” “CERTIFICATE OF INCORPORATION OF A PRIVATE COMPANY” “ AILEEN” intended to be sent out using fake or stolen identities.
Some other items recovered from them include, various ATM cards, a Toyota Venza with a National Association of Nigerian Student (NANS) number plate, Toyota Avalon, four laptops, several mobile phones, substances suspected to be charms, and wraps of Indian hemp among others. One of the defendants who trained as a science lab technician and who recently got a job at one of the teaching hospitals in Enugu was found to be the owner of a filling station in an outskirt of Enugu.
They pleaded “not guilty” to charges when they were read to them.
Defence counsel, Ndubuisi Nwaokporo, thereafter, moved motion for their bail, which was not opposed by the prosecuting counsel, Innocent Mbachie.
Corps member arrested after reporting fraud to police
A National Youth Service Corps member identified as, Ayodeji Felix Olaniyi, has been arrested after he reported a suspected fraud to the police in Akwa Ibom state.
The corps member serving in Abak, Akwa Ibom State, is currently behind bars over a fraudulent payment he received from a person he allegedly sold bitcoin to.
This was made known by one Olowoleye Olayinka, who gave an insight into what led to the corps Member’s arrest.
Olowoleye wrote:
“Olaniyi was arrested on the 14th of January 2019 (Monday).
He is into selling of bitcoin. He sold bitcoin to a client who resides in Delta State. The client hacked a woman’s UBA account in the same Delta State to pay him through mobile transfer to his GTB.
He noticed the name of the client who bought the bitcoin is different from the account name that paid him. He quickly went to police station (A) Division Uyo, on the 12th January 2019 to lay a complain to DPO about the transaction.
The DPO was not on seat so he met with IPO and wrote down a statement. On 14th January 2019 (Monday), he went back to the police station (A) Division Uyo, to ensure the DPO was aware of the statement he wrote.
However, the DPO advised him to go to his bank and confirm the transaction and to also give him feedback of what happened. But on getting to the bank, he discovered his account was frozen.
The bank then held him and police from (C) Division at Aka Etina Road, later arrested him and nothing has been done about it. The owner of the hacked account who raised the alarm that led to his arrest, is nowhere to be found till date.”

Nigerian who threatened suicide finally speaks
A Nigerian woman, a mother of four, last week put out a ‘suicidal post’ asking for members of the public to reach out to her children when she dies.
He post reads; “If I am no more, please reach out to my innocent triplets+1, they are unlucky to arrive in an evil family.”
The post caused a bit of panic on Instagram on Sunday, as a great number of people, including celebrities, tried to reach out to her for fear that she might do something rash and irrevocable.
Friends immediately tried to reach out to her but her phone was not reachable and they also couldn’t reach her at home. Concerned people then took to social media to try to reach out to her.
Jane has now replied hours after her post sent people into panic.
Jane, whose husband allegedly abandoned with their four kids so he could be with his side chic who he recently bought a car for, said she is fine now. She then went on to thank everyone who worried about her.
She revealed that her kids haven’t stayed with their father for over a year. She said she sometimes leaves home very early in the morning and returns late at night after her kids have gone to bed so as to avoid having them ask her where their daddy is.
Yesterday, when the kids asked for their daddy, she says she told them that God is their dad.
She also added that finances are a bit tight for them and she escapes from home to avoid her kids asking her to buy things for them.
But she assured those concerned about her welfare that she’s fine now because her dad has stepped in to take care of her.
She, however, warned that some people have created fake bank accounts in her name, asking people to donate towards her and her children.
She wrote:

Popular Ghanaian undercover reporter, Ahmed Hussein-Suale shot dead
The employers of a Ghanaian undercover reporter have alleged assassination after he was shot dead on Wednesday night.
Ahmed Hussein-Suale was said to be on his way home when gunmen on a motorbike opened fire on his vehicle in Madina area of Accra, shooting him dead in three live rounds.
Mr Hussein-Suale was a key personnel amongst a team of undercover investigators working with Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye in Ghana.
A grieving Mr Anas announced the development on Thursday morning, saying his late colleague was shot twice on the chest and once in the neck.
A video Mr Anas posted alongside the death announcement on Twitter Thursday morning showed a Ghanaian lawmaker making violent threats against Mr Hussein-Suale.
Kennedy Agyapong said in the video, which was part of ‘who watches the watchman’ anti-Anas docuseries, that the public should deal with Mr Hussein-Suale for a handsome reward.
Mr Agyapong’s threats and the immediate indication that the killers did not steal from Mr Hussein-Suale after killing him appeared to have led Tiger Eye to suggest that he was assassinated.
Mr Anas and his team have taken on several Ghanaian sectors to expose corruption, including the 2015 undercover that exposed judges as taking cash bribes and forced many of them to resign.
An undercover on corruption in the Ghanaian sports industry is suspected to have led to the murder of Mr Hussein-Suale last night.
Last year, Tiger Eye raised the alarm that its staff members had become recipients of frequent violent threats, calling on the world to prevail on Ghanaian authorities to ensure their safety.
Media rights advocates say the development has reminded the world of the grim danger African journalists still face.
The Committee to Project Journalists condemned Mr Hussein-Suale’s killing and called on Ghanaian authorities to immediately unmask the assailants and bring urgent justice to his family.
“Authorities in #Ghana should immediately investigate the killing of journalist Ahmed Divela and ensure that threats against the press are taken seriously,” the CPJ Africa Programme said on Twitter Thursday morning.

Oba of Iworoko dies 4 days after truck killed 15 people in his town
The Oba of Iworoko, Oba Michael Oluwafemi Aladejana, has died from alleged shock just four days after a trailer crushed 15 persons to death in Iworoko Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of Ekiti State.
Aladejana, an octogenarian died in the early hours of yesterday at an undisclosed hospital in Ado Ekiti capital city where he was rushed to for treatment.
A trailer carrying a branded rice of the senator representing Ondo Central, Tayo Alasoadura, had on Saturday rammed into a night market leaving 15 persons dead, including a yet-to-be identified youth corps member, and four others fatally injured.
A prominent indigene of the town, who did not want his name in print, said the accident led to the sudden collapse of the health of the second-class traditional ruler, adding that efforts to revived him proved abortive.
“Our monarch was rushed to the hospital after the accident. Though he had been having health issues before but that incident really made the situation worse for him.
“When the news got to town, he was said to have felt so devastated and the family had to rush him to the hospital early on Sunday. The sickness was said to have improved on Monday before it relapsed on Tuesday causing his untimely death yesterday,” the source said.

Man who tweeted final goodbye to his family during terrorist attack in Kenya among 174 people rescued (Photos)
A man went viral on social media after he bade farewell to his family as he was trapped in one of the buildings at 14 Riverside complex during Tuesday’s Kenyan terrorist attack.
Gracefully, Mr. Ng’eno was eventually among over 174 people who were rescued overnight even as security forces continued to battle the attacker more the 12 hours after the siege started.
Ng’eno was evacuated hours after he tweeted a “goodbye message” to his family should he die in the attack. In a series of tweets, he had given updates on the harrowing situation inside Dusit D2 Hotel at a time no one knew exactly what was happening.
In his first tweet, he said that if he died, he loved the lord and believed he will go to heaven.
“Please tell my family I love then I love you Caleb, Mark and Carol.”

Mr Ng’eno who describes himself as a husband, father, communication consultant, trainer and photographer, tweeted at 6:20am on Wednesday to the relief of those who had been hoping to hear good news that he was well.
“Dear all thank you for your support. I am now out and at home with my family. Thanks to the brave @NPSOfficial_KE @kdfinfo for risking their lives to save others.”

A Twitter user has said she believes that “between a prostitute and an African wife”, the former has more dignity than the latter.
She justifies her stance by saying in the long run, both category are somewhat alike if well thought about it, as to acquire either of the two, money has to be involved.

A middle-aged man who claimed to be a pastor, was today nabbed with a bag full of female pants and bra in Auchi, Edo state.
According to reports, the pastor who is known for going about to preach in the mornings, was accosted by members of the state vigilante and asked what was the content of a Ghana Must Go bag he was always going about with.
A search carried out showed the bag contained different types of female pants and bra. He was taken to his church where more pants and bra were discovered.

16-year-old girl calls 911 on her father for seizing her $800 phone
A teenage girl reportedly called the police on her father for seizing her $800 phone because she password-protected it.
Ohio officers responded to the 911 call made by the teen, who told dispatchers,
‘My father took my property, which is an $800 phone that doesn’t belong to him. He didn’t buy it.’
Lt James Wilson of the South Euclid Police Department said officers recognized the situation as a teaching opportunity, telling WKYC:
‘Certainly if we were busy, it would be pushed to the back burner, but we still have an obligation to respond.’
The teen, whose name has not been released because she is a minor, can be heard saying: ‘I want my phone.’
The father, Anthony Robertson then explains:
‘I took her phone because she’s a juvenile, and I don’t want her to have it. I can’t inspect it, because the phone is locked, so I took it away.’
The officers determined that it was merely a parental disciplinary issue and sided with Robertson.
