Margaret Dery, Miss Ghana 2017 resigns

Miss Ghana 2017

The reigning Miss Ghana 2017, Margaret Dery, has resigned from her position as queen just nine months after she was crowned the winner of Ghana’s foremost pageantry.

And this comes following rumours that she has been embroiled in a long-winding fight with the pageant organisers.

Posting on her Twitter recently, Margaret Dery described her reign as Miss Ghana as the worst period of her life.

“Being a miss Ghana queen has honestly been one of the worst experiences of my life, yeah, I know it looks good on the outside, but it’s just one big sham on the inside,” said the former beauty queen, adding, “All that glitters is not gold. Ladies, you don’t need a crown on your head to succeed.”

She continued:

“Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty, truth and compassion against injustice, lying and greed. No more will I cover up for anyone that doesn’t deserve it. The whole world will know the truth soon.”

Meanwhile, Exclusive Events Ghana, the organisers of the event wrote in a press release:

“are very focused and ever determined to use the Miss Ghana Beauty Pageant to help the poor, needy and the vulnerable in rural areas and deprived communities and absolutely nothing can distract us from this noble journey.”

“We wish Margaret Dery well in her next career and we do pray that she will uphold the ethics of professionalism, respect for contracts as well as show the necessary respect to the new authority she finds herself under”.

Popular OAP and media personality, Daddy Freeze is celebrating his baymama’s 40th birthday today.

In a public display of affection note, Daddy Freeze who separated from his wife and mother of two kids in an unpleasant way a few years back, wrote this for his now present lover and babymama ;

“My Queen, the First Lady of the #FreeNation in Christ, @tasebudzng the one who believed in me when NO ONE and I repeat no one did, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

You picked me up from the gutters of depression, the quagmire of desolation and made me seek God and find my true calling.

Today, as God chose a humble man like me to lead nations out of slavery, he empowered me with tools. You are one of those tools.

I can’t preach if I don’t have a stable home or good food, I can’t teach God’s word if I am depressed, unhappy or lonely and as you have helped bring succor to my life and tranquility to my world, so will he who sent me on this errand bless you abundantly and empower you to continue being the angel that you have always been.

As you turn 40 today, may the light of the LORD never depart from your life, and may his grace remain upon you always, in Jesus name, AMEN! ~FRZ

Identical twin brothers set to marry identical twin sisters and live in same house

After living together all their lives, two identical twin brothers have decided to marry two identical twin sisters.

Krissie Bevier and fiance, Zack Lewan (left) and Nicholas Lewan and fiance, Kassie Bevier (right) will get married
in back-to-back weddings before celebrating their receptions together and moving into the same apartment

Identical twin brothers in Michigan are going to marry identical twin sisters in a joint ceremony before moving in together in the same two-bedroom apartment.

Zack and Nick Lewan, 24, have been inseparable since birth. So have their future wives Krissie and Kassie Bevier, also 24.

The couples said they do everything ‘in twos’ and that includes getting married.

According to the Jackson Citizen Patriot, Krissie and Zack and Kassie and Nick plan on tying the knot in back-to-back weddings this weekend. The couples will then share their reception on Saturday night before moving into their two-bedroom apartment to start their new lives.

Krissie and Zack’s wedding will take place on August 3, the outlet reports. Kassie and Nick’s on August 4.

‘I’m in disbelief sometimes of just how everything happened,’ Nick told WILX-TV .

Kassie and Nick (left) met four years ago in college and introduced their siblings to each other. They all had their first date together

Krissie said it was important that she and her sister get their own wedding days as ‘being a twin, you never get anything on your own’. However, since their guest lists are pretty much identical they decided to have their ceremonies a day apart.

The couples also plan to spend a few days of their honeymoons separate. They will each travel to Florida – four days apart – to celebrate their weddings and only spend a few days at Disney World together.

Kassie and Nick first met as students at Grand Valley state University four years ago. They brought their siblings along on their first date to a church service. Krissie and Zack hit off immediately and started dating shortly after.

The twins are so close that they even planned their engagements on the same day. Nick and Zack both popped the question to their significant others last year during a family trip to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn.
The couples even got engaged on the same day. Both men proposed to their significant others last year at a museum

‘It basically happened at the same time … which is par for the course for us,’ Kassie said. ‘We do things in twos.’

The couples plan to move in together into a two-bedroom apartment in Fenton, but said that even though they do things together they are still ‘individuals’.

‘We work differently and we have different interests, and just respect each other for those differences,’ Zack said.

The couples said they click so well because they were brought up with the same family values.

‘We just flow together and it makes sense,’ Krissie said. ‘There is a special twin bond, and having someone who understands that is huge.’

APC issues Bukola Saraki 48 hours ultimatum to reply query

APC attacks Saraki

The APC has given Senate President, Bukola Saraki a 48-hour ultimatum to respond to the query of breaching Article 21 of the Party’s constitution.

According to reports from Guardian, the National Working Committee of the APC in reaction to his defection, has asked Saraki to respond with why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for breaching the constitution of the party.

Recall on Tuesday, Saraki had announced he has left APC to join the PDP saying his new party has learnt more from defeat than APC learned from victory.

The party in a resolution signed by its National Secretary, Mai Malla Buni said the Senate president had flouted the laws of the party with his activities.

APC alleged that the senate president “encouraged and facilitated by providing an enabling environment for the defection of some senators who are members of the APC to the other opposition parties.”

The statement stated:

“That you have deliberately refused to screen nominees for appointments submitted by Mr President who are members of the party from being confirmed by the senate. This has caused untold embarrassment and ridicule to the party and the government.

“That as a follow up to the above, the Kwara State Governor, who is known to be your staunch supporter, had made public pronouncements suggesting that he will decamp from the party as an indicator to your formal defection. That you have organized a public rally in your state where members of the party urged you to decamp to PDP.

“That you used the office of the Senate President to cause avoidable delays in the budgetary process and passage of the appropriation act into law thereby frustrating the implementation of the party’s manifesto and programs and frustrating the APC led Federal Government in the actualization of the campaign promises of the party.”

The APC also accused Saraki of frustrating the party’s efforts to reconcile aggrieved members and encouraged the formation of an association which sought to impersonate and pass off the name of the party.

“Converting the guest house of the Senate President to meeting points and presiding over anti-party activities in the guest house; thereby, encouraging defection of senators from the party, presiding over such meetings and compiling a list of the said defectors including some without their consent,”

“Procuring joint letter of decamped members from the APC and reading same on the floor of the senate including some who did not accede to defecting thereby causing embarrassment to the party.” APC said.

Lai Mohammed offered the opening prayer at the Federal Executive Council meeting, FEC, this morning. The meeting which was presided over by President Buhari, had in attendance Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Ministers and other top government functionaries.

The Minister’s prayer comes amidst the gale of defection in the ruling party, APC. Just yesterday, Bukola Saraki and Kwara state governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, announced their defections. 15 APC lawmakers and 32 House of Representatives members defected from the party last week.

BREAKING: Tambuwal announces return to PDP, explains why he dumped APC [Full text]

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on Wednesday publicly declared his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former House of Reps Speaker announced that he had returned to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The development is the climax of Tambuwal’s face-off with his political godfather and former Governor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko.

According to Daily Post, informed sources had told them that Tambuwal is eyeing the PDP presidential ticket.

In his speech, Tambuwal explained why he took the decision.

Full text below:

“Politicians and political leaders, groups and group leaders, stakeholders in the development of our state and our nation, fellow indigenes of Sokoto State and citizens of our great country, members of the press, ladies and gentlemen. It is with gratitude to Almighty Allah, our Sustainer that I address you on a matter of great importance to our nation at this auspicious moment in our political history. I stand before you with a heavy heart, wishing I had cheery words of progress, instead of the sad report that I am constrained to give you on the situation of our dear nation.

2. The struggle for democracy is one that began with our fight for independence as a sovereign nation. To this end, the blood, freedom and other liberties of our past heroes and contemporary veterans were sacrificed. The current dispensation began in 1999, as the watershed of our toil, which granted to us a democratic system that is striving to evolve and survive.

3. Through those years the forces of genuine change gravitated and by 2015, merged to ensure a transition of power that Nigerians hoped would herald a new order of true democracy under an atmosphere of justice, peace, equity and the rule of law. The leaders of that coalition represented and symbolized the aspiration of Nigerians for progress and prosperity under one united, indivisible nation.

4. As the speaker of the House of Representatives then, I left my comfort zone to be involved in the struggle for the enthronement of purposeful leadership for the citizens of our dear country.

6. Now, almost four years into what ought to be a new order as desired and elected by Nigerians, the nation is unfortunately going through the most difficult and precarious times, since the Civil war; with ethno, religious and regional distrust at its highest ebb.

7. This development had often been blamed on political opponents. Meanwhile, there are issues of brazen inequity and capacity and questionable distribution of appointments/projects. This is in addition to lack of statesmanship in responding to national issues, among other things that are for aggravating the anomaly.

8. In line with the best traditions in any major political decision, especially by a serving elected Governor, I have painstakingly consulted far and wide, on whether the present political platform is a viable vehicle for achieving the aspiration of our people.

9. It is because I am convinced that no nation can thrive while there is inequity and bad governance; because I am saddened by the fact that lethargy, incompetence and sustained denial of obvious leadership missteps have become the major raw materials with which the Nigerian State is being run today; because I am unwilling to be part of frightful conspiracy against the cohesion of the Nigerian State, Nigerian youths and peoples; because I am unable to feel at ease in the face of a progressively divided nation and, above all, because I am totally unable to reconcile myself to a national leadership that offers no redeeming moral beacons that I am here with you today; to announce withdrawal of my membership of the All Progressives Congress and return to the People’s Democratic Party.

10. I speak to you today with a mixture of sadness and relief because I did not expect that the APC, which promised so much when the People’s Democratic party (PDP) stood under the sway of impunity, could not maintain or manage whatever good it inherited. It has also not broken new grounds in any positive sense but has instead reached historically unprecedented heights of impunity in all manner of vices far above and beyond the challenges which made some of us to leave the PDP about four years ago to join others to form the APC. The party has brazenly turned itself into a sanctuary for the corrupt and a machine for rigging and for the rape of democracy.

11. Let me also put it on record that all attempts to discuss the electoral promises of the APC-led government, including the restructuring of the country as promised Nigerians and as contained in the APC manifesto, have proved abortive.

12. Beyond that, I cannot look those who elected me as their Governor here in Sokoto State in the face and boldly point to any meaningful Federal Projects initiated in the state under the APC government. Even the bulk of uncompleted Federal Projects here that were inherited from the previous administration have largely remained in their state of neglect. Sokoto State is also not being meaningfully carried along in political appointments and in other matters of national importance.

13. Like most states of the North, and indeed the entire federation, elders and traditional institutions have come under measured disrespect. The recent attack in Tabinnii in Rabah LGA of Sokoto State, the routine invasion of Zamfara State by armed bandits, the now-regular killing of policemen by unknown gunmen all over the country, the regular massacre of innocent people in the North East axis and many similar daily incidents, do not attract much attention any more.

14. Good governance, viz-a-viz economic wellbeing of our people, remains the major reason for my action of today. Information from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows that over nine million jobs have been lost in the last 3 years, since the APC Government came into office. While youth unemployment rate was 11.70 per cent during the fourth quarter of 2014, it rose to 33.10 per cent in third quarter of 2017 under the APC Government. The economy is not showing any real signs of improvement. Our educational and health institutions are in retreat. Poverty is on rampage and still ravages the land. It is unacceptable that majority of those who voted for APC in 2015 should have nothing good to show for it.

15. As in the past, it is only my interest in equity, the wellbeing of Nigerians and a befitting future for our teeming youths, national unity and economic prosperity that has led to my new locus in Nigerian politics today. We all have a duty to do our best, while nudging our political parties to progressively align political contests in Nigeria along clear ideological lines; such that sooner rather than later the aspirations and the will of our people will be the only determinant of election outcomes.

16. Let me at this juncture state emphatically that I return to the PDP with a clear conscience today, because the party has learnt some bitter lessons and noted what mistakes it must avoid in the future. It is now a repositioned and forward-looking political party to which I now pledge loyalty, in my resolve to contribute towards improving the lives of Nigerians and expanding opportunities for the youths. It is only by working together as agents of development that we can promote excellence, competence, good governance and enthronement of genuine democracy to save Nigeria.

17. I thank you for your understanding, support, prayers and your continued faith in the Nigerian Project. May Almighty Allah guide and protect us.”

National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi officially resigns from the party

Bolaji Abdullahi has officially resigned his position as National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as his membership of the party.

Read his statement below:

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE NATIONAL PUBLICITY OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC), MALLAM BOLAJI ABDULLAHI
AUGUST 1ST, 2018.
In view of recent political developments in the country and within the All Progressives Congress (APC), I have decided to resign my position as the National Publicity Secretary as well as my membership of the party with effect from today.

In the last few days, I have had to endure the flagrant usurpation of my role as the spokesman of the party in a manner that I consider unbefitting of a ruling party and inconsistent with my ethical standards.

I have served the APC honestly and to the best of my ability and when I stood for and won my election at the last convention; it was a keen desire to continue to do so. However, in a situation whereby my loyalty is constantly brought into question; my subordinates deployed to subvert my office; and my views constantly second-guessed on the basis of my political affiliation, it has become imperative for me to review my position.

Since assuming office as the spokesman of the party, I have tried to set a new template for public political communications in a way that departs from the vulgar abuse and verbal aggression of the recent past, where cheap lies and crude propaganda were normalised as politics, and even celebrated as measures of competence. Unfortunately, those who felt I was not “forceful enough” framed my ethical disposition as evidence of a lack of commitment to the party.

The unlawful dissolution of the validly elected party executive in Kwara State earlier in the week was only another phase in the unrelenting assault I have had to endure. As a national officer of the party, who sits in that Committee, courtesy should demand that my views be sought on a matter that concerns my state and in which I am directly involved. That action was, to say the least, disrespectful.

Quite recently, we all took the oath to do justice to all and not allow personal interests to interfere with our official responsibilities. With this obviously presumptuous action, and the decision to appoint as chairman of caretaker committee, the same man who had emerged as the chairman from the parallel congress in my State, the NWC has taken sides, violated its oath office and subverted its own credibility as an impartial arbiter. Yet, these are the same people that have continued to insinuate that others are serving interests other than those of the party.

Politics is local, and my personal stake in the issue of Kwara makes it incongruous for me to continue to sit as part of the working committee of the party. Clearly, I cannot continue to function as the spokesman of a party whose expectations of that role is incompatible with my personal principles. In the same token, I can no longer justify to myself that I should remain in a party which has now made it clear to the world that the political group that I belong is no longer wanted, and which has hung my membership of that group as an albatross around my neck.

Facebook, Instagram to introduce time-management tools

Social Media Giants, Facebook and Instagram have taken steps to battle addiction with the introduction of ‘time management tools’.

In a statement, the social media giants — which are both owned by Facebook — announced “new tools to help people manage their time” spent on the platforms.

Among the tools are a way to limit notifications, and a dashboard that allows users to keep track of how much time they have spent on the platforms.

“We want the time people spend on Instagram and Facebook to be intentional, positive and inspiring,” the statement said.

“Our hope is that these tools give people more control over the time they spend on our platforms and also foster conversations between parents and teens about the online habits that are right for them,” it added.

Facebook said it was introducing a daily reminder, whereby users are alerted when they reach the time limit they set for themselves to spend on the app.

It is also introducing an option to deactivate notifications on smartphones.

Facebook has in recent months introduced a string of changes to its content, including a major plan earlier this year to update its newsfeed to emphasise posts from friends and family.

That shift had prompted fears it could drive away advertisers if people spent less time on the social network.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg had announced the changes in 2017, as his firm sought to respond to accusations that it encouraged addiction to its platform.

Earlier this year, Zuckerberg said: “In 2018, we’re focused on making sure Facebook isn’t just fun to use, but also good for people’s well-being and for society.”

Since the measures were introduced, viral videos have seen a significant drop in reach.

The plan in turn saw a 5 percent drop in time spent on Facebook in the last quarter of 2017.

A jealous boyfriend has been imprisoned for “psychological abuse” after he banned his girlfriend from using Snapchat and threatened to kill her family if she left him.

Matthew Bailey, 24, ordered his selfie-loving girlfriend, Molly Cunliffe, 19, to stay away from exchanging messages with heterosexual men on Facebook and Instagram. He even told her she was not allowed to put kisses at the end of social media posts.

Bailey was so jealous that he would regularly check Molly’s mobile phone, tell her what to wear, and demanded she sends him pictures or goes on Facetime to prove she was at home or even asleep in bed. He dictated that the only male friends she could contact over social media had to be gay.

Bailey also bombarded the care assistant with phone calls demanding she calls him every day. Whenever she doesn’t answer his calls, he accuses her of cheating on him.

During one phone call recorded by a friend of Molly’s following an argument, Bailey warned her, saying: “You’ll get a car through your front window and I’ll stab you in the neck. You know what I’m capable of.”

He added: “Do not block my number then go home and shag. Tell your mum and dad to sit upstairs, I’ll drive a car through your gaff – take a picture to prove you’re outside having a cig.”

Their relationship only lasted for four weeks before Molly, from Bolton, Greater Manchester, tried to end it. But the obsessed boyfriend threatened to kill her family if she breaks up with him. After a burst of 30 calls in just one morning from her obsessed partner, Molly went to police to report.

At Manchester magistrates court, Bailey, from Horwich, near Bolton was jailed for six months after he was found guilty of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship. He was also barred from contacting Molly for five years.

Police halt CAN peaceful procession over killings in Adamawa

The Nigerian Police in Adamawa state stopped a peaceful protest organized by the Adamawa State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) earlier today.

According to PUNCH, the peaceful protest called by the Adamawa State CAN Chairman, Bishop Stephen Mamza, on Wednesday, drew a large turnout from Christians who trooped to St. Theresa Catholic Church, the venue initially planned for the take-off of the procession.

It was gathered that shortly before the take-off of the protest scheduled for 9am, Mamza told the congregants who had turned up for the protest that the police had canceled it.

CAN said the protest was to draw the government’s attention to the protection of human lives whether Christian, Muslim or Fulani. He gave an instance of the recent attacks in Mayo-Belwa which claimed the lives of several Fulani.

CAN also spoke against the Federal Government’s neglect of the state on matters of security. It said the FG’s silence was disturbing because the killings have not abated.

Mamza who said the procession would have afforded the church the opportunity to present its petition to the State Governor, Mohammed

Jibrilla, who will then pass it on to President Muhammadu Buhari, was refused the permission for the peaceful procession.

“The police have refused to grant us the permission but they cannot refuse us access to God. The police have no authority to stop us access to God.”
