Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor of Abia State has said the National Youth Service Corps has grown to become an effective tool for national integration and unity.
He made the remark on Thursday during the swearing in of 2018 Batch ‘B’ corps members deployed to the state at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Umunna in Bende Local Government Area.
The governor, said that the scheme had impacted positively on the psyche of the Nigerian youth.
He added that “it is therefore imperative that we not only continue to sustain the scheme, but also work out ways of repositioning it with a view to enhancing its efficiency.”
Ikpeazu said that the good people of Abia were happy about the noble roles corps members played toward the development of the state.
He urged corps members posted to the state to take advantage of the newly introduced Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development and the NYSC War Against Poverty programmes, among others.
The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs Franscesca Ifon, said that a total of 1,900 corps members were registered for the 21-day orientation.
She disclosed that the number comprised 1,048 males and 852 females.
Ifon charged the corps members to take all they would learn during the orientation course seriously.
The oath of allegiance was administered on the corps members by the Chief Judge of Abia, Justice Onuoha Ogwe, who was represented by Justice Thomas Adiele.

Some Osun State governorship aspirants, seven in number has asked the National Leadership of the PDP to drop Senator Ademola Adeleke as the PDP flagbearer.
The aspirants asked the party to rescind its decision on the nomination of Senator Ademola Adeleke as the candidate of the party in the September 22 governorship election.
According to Punch Nigeria seven aspirants, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi; senators Olasunkanmi Akinlabi and Felix Ogunwale; Prof. Adeolu Durotoye and Dr. Ayoade Adewopo said this at a joint press conference in Osogbo on Thursday.
Other aspirants who are also urging the PDP leadership to drop Adeleke are, Mrs Adejare Bello and Jide Adeniji who were both absent at the press conference, but had their names were listed as supporting the call.
Olasunkanmi, who read the address said:
“The candidacy of Senator Ademola Adeleke will further divide rather than unite the PDP in Osun State in view of the fact that a great number of the party members will not feel secure working for him, because of the very controversial circumstances of his nomination.
“The PDP may not be able to secure the support of critical stakeholders in the state with Senator Adeleke’s candidacy, because of his not too impressive public conduct as a senator of the Federal Republic.
“In view of the foregoing, therefore, we the under listed aspirants call on the national leadership of our party to rescind its decision on the nomination of Senator Ademola Adeleke as our candidate for the September 22 governorship election.”
Ogunbiyi stated that he would not leave the party but would not stop to demand that the party do the right thing.
He said:
“We are actually facing a challenge at present. It is a storm that will pass and I, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi and other aspirants will not leave the PDP under any guise.
“We believe that the leadership of the party will do the right thing. We will stay together and fight to uproot the government of APC.
“The good people of Osun State should remain calm. The PDP is the hope of Osun State. There is no alternative party that can rescue Osun State and Nigeria.
“I cannot be a mole in the hands of anybody. With my modest achievement as a village boy with this level of grace God has given me, I cannot condescend to do such dishonorable job.”
A 19 year old girl, identified as Divine Giwa has been arrested for allegedly stealing a friend’s properties worth N918,000 after drugging her to sleep.
The young lady has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, yesterday.
Divine Giwa allegedly administered sleeping substance on her friend via tea, which made her sleep from 7a.m. till 10p.m, during which she ransacked her room and made way with the properties.
According to prosecuting counsel, Ehizoba Godspower, Giwa committed the offence in September 2017.
He said she stole three bags containing clothes valued at N200,000, 30 pieces of shoes, N150,000, jewelries, N100,000, make-up kit, N50,000, three pieces of human hair wigs, N250,000, eye glasses valued N20,000, one phone valued N100,000 and N48,000, totalling N918,000; properties of Chioma Daniels.
He said:
“The defendant deliberately drugged the complainant to enable her steal her money and properties.”
Though Giwa pleaded not guilty to the charge, the complainant had narrated how she was drugged by her friend to the Police. Daniels said:
“A friend of mine introduced the suspect to me in March 2017 at a fast food outlet in Lekki, and begged me to allow the suspect to live with me, pending when she would be able to raise money to rent accommodation.
“I lived with the suspect from March till September 2017, when I told her to prepare tea for both of us to drink.
“After I drank the tea, I slept from 7a.m. and woke up 10p.m., only to discover that the suspect had stolen all my properties and money and escaped.
“I later sighted her at Lekki in June this year and raised the alarm, which attracted people who assisted me to apprehend her and dragged her to the police station.”
Magistrate M. F. Onanusi granted Giwa N200,000 bail, with one surety in like sum, adjourned the case till August 1 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at Kirikiri Prisons, pending when she is able to perfect her bail conditions.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has revealed that Nigeria will partner with Google and other service providers to boost internet connectivity in the country.
Osinbajo made this known while speaking at the Google for Nigeria event holding at Landmark center Lagos State. He said;
“We will be partnering with Google and other technology providers to achieve the level of connectivity that will match the creativity of our people.”

Google Nigeria plans to reach more than 10 million Nigerians with free Internet access in five cities in Nigeria.
According to the company, the Wi-Fi will be available in 200 Google Stations across five cities in the country which includes Lagos, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Ibadan and Abuja by 2019.
This was made known on Thursday at the second Google for Nigeria event in Lagos.
The Google Nigeria Country Director, Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor, said the initiative would address affordability and access to data as well as broadband penetration.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Google Stations, She said the free Wi-Fi was rolled out in partnership with an Internet Service Provider with extensive fibre network, 21st Century, adding that the company was open to partnerships with other ISPs and telcos.
“One of the challenges we found was access to data. Broadband penetration is low and are not reliable and there are challenges with affordability just allow many Nigerians benefit from the digital economy. We are very excited to be able to launch in collaboration with partners,”

An unidentified student of Novena University, Delta State was nabbed inside a female hostel in UNIBEN, Ekenwan Campus this morning.
According to reports, there have been many recent cases of theft in the hostel. Just three days ago, a student reported that her laptop and phone were stolen, overnight, from her wardrobe.
However, this morning, laptops, phones and a hand bag got missing inside three different rooms and an alarm was raised. That was when a student said she spotted a girl with tinted hair, leaving the rooms.
The gate to the hostel was promptly locked and a search was initiated. The suspect was eventually found inside the common room and apprehended. She later confessed to the many thefts.
According to the hostel occupants, the suspect, who claims to be a student of Novena university, goes around telling people that she’s a fresh student of Uniben with no hostel space to stay and that they should please accommodate her for the night. .
Once taken in, she strikes by going to surrounding rooms, very early in the morning, to steal, especially when the occupants have gone out to have their bath. She is currently at the security office at Ugbowo, Uniben.

50 Cent’s son Marquise Jackson may have just added a pint of fuel to the burning feud between his father and retired boxer Floyd Mayweather.
He called Floyd Mayweather ‘uncle’ during a Face-Time video call.
Recall that 50Cent and Mayweather have been embroiled in the nastiest feud for days now, a social media battle that begun after the rapper shaded the retired boxer on Instagram.
Yesterday, 50 Cent decided to come for Mayweather’s son Koraun by posting the statement the child made when the former boxer’s hit his mum.
But Koraun perfectly put him in his place by posting a photo of him and his father skating together. “All good over here,” said the young boy who then subtly referenced 50 Cent’s nasty feud with his own son Marquise, saying, “Worry about your family first.”
Koraun also let his father know that their hearts are in a good place. “[I] love you @floydmayweather,” he said.
Floyd Mayweather has been silent for days now after 50 accused him of triggering the murder-suicide involving his late friends.
But yesterday, things completely went south when the rapper’s oldest son, Marquise Jackson, whom he had publicly disowned, hopped into the feud by siding with Mayweather and even calling him “Uncle.”
“How my uncle look my age,” said Marquise in the post showing their FaceTime, to which Mayweather replied, saying: “Keep working hard. You are going to be more than okay!”
Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso has expelled the son of the immediate past Secretary to Osun State Government, Alhaji Mashood Adeoti, AbdulAfeez Adeoti.
In a report by Daily Post, three others were also expelled along with Adeoti’s son, while the institution placed eight other students on suspension following their alleged involvement in the post-students’ union election violence on June 13th.
This was contained in an official statement signed by the Registrar of the institution, Mr. Jacob Agboola, who declared that the university’s Senate at an emergency meeting held on Tuesday considered the report and recommendations of the panel set up to investigate the matter.
Agboola in the statement added that the Senate approved that those found wanting be suspended or expelled from the university.
The expelled students according to the statement include AbdulAfeez Adeoti, a student with department of Civil Engineering; Akinloye Oluwatimileyin of department of Pure and Applied Physics; Eze Raymond, department of Management and Accounting and Dauda Sodiq, department of Chemical Engineering.
The suspended students are:
Olalekan Ismail, a student of department of Computer Science and Engineering;
Amoo Akeem, department of Transport Management; Azeez Ayobami, department of Biochemistry;
Oluwole Opeyemi, department of Pure and Applied Chemistry; and Bankole Oluwaseyi, department of Pure and Applied Physics.
Others include:
Abioye Aderemi, department of Anatomy;
Atoyebi Adeniran, Pure and Applied Mathematics, and
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said that the defection of over 50 Federal Lawmakers from the APC to the PDP will teach Political parties to respect their members.
Wike noted that democracy, rule of law and separation of powers had suffered extremely, insisting that the gale of defection since Tuesday was instructive to parties.
The Governor said that the mass defection in the National Assembly was also an indication that the will of the people and the liberty of any person to choose the political parties that he wanted to belong remained supreme.
Wike said this on Wednesday through the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Emma Okah.
“The institutions of democracy, rule of law, separation of powers, etc, have suffered enormously for some time now.
“The development yesterday, wherein people feel that time has come for them to move is very instructive.
“The people’s will must prevail and those who lead must lead with the understanding and appreciation of the fact that the people’s will is supreme.
“So, to all intent and purposes, the liberty of the persons to choose which party they want to belong without fear or favour was put to play.
“For whatever it is worth, political parties will now be a lot more careful on how they treat their members,” he stated.
Facebook has reportedly rolled out a ‘Watch Party’ feature for everyone worldwide.
It appears the tech giant is trying to lure back those who switched over to Instagram with this new cool feature and it just might work.
It was gathered that the feature is designed to let people in Facebook groups watch live or recorded videos together while posting comments in real time.
Anyone in a group can start a Watch Party and select co-hosts, who control the playlist and playback.
In addition to that, everyone can suggest videos, and a Facebook notification tells them a party is about to start.
Facebook started testing Watch Party in January but the feature rolled out worldwide on Wednesday 25th July.
During testing, Facebook found some groups hosting parties that ran more than 10 hours.
Last week Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the platform has always been about personal connections and interactions in meaningful ways.
With these new feature you can not only share vacation pictures but also your Live vacation videos.
However, Facebook has a team of employees who review content and monitor live broadcasts once they reach a certain level of popularity.
If a live streamed video violates its standards, the company will interrupt the broadcast.
The longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century takes place this Friday, July 27.
The total phase of the “blood moon” eclipse of July 27 will last 1 hour and 43 minutes, during which Earth’s natural satellite will turn a spectacular red or ruddy-brown color. From start to finish, the entire celestial event will last nearly 4 hours.
The eclipse won’t be visible to viewers in North America, except via webcasts. But observers in much of Africa, the Middle East, southern Asia and the Indian Ocean region will get an eyeful, given cooperative weather, according to lunar scientist Noah Petro, of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

A ‘blood moon’ happens when Earth’s moon is in full eclipse and has no special astronomical significance, rather, the view in the sky is striking as the usually whitish moon becomes red or ruddy-brown and can be looked at with the naked eye
The Head media and corporate communications of the Agency, Dr. Felix Ale, told newsmen:
“The Eclipse in Nigeria will start around 6:44pm as partial eclipse and developed into a total eclipse around 7:30pm.
The Eclipse is expected to reach its peak around 9:21pm and wane from then until the eclipse ends around 12:30am of the 28th of July 2018.

A young lady identified as Kelly has taken to her Instagram page to celebrate her 5 years relationship with Caroline Danjuma’s ex-husband, billionaire businessman, Musa Danjuma.
The Ghanaian/Caribbean/Nigerian 23-year old also made it known that their relationship has been on a low key.
Caroline and Musa went their separate ways in 2016 after three children.

The mother-in-law of former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode who died in April has now been buried.
Femi Fani Kayode announced her death then saying:
