Former Vice President and 2019 presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the petrol tanker explosion that occurred yesterday on Otedola bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan.
While the sad incident serves as an eye opener to a large number of people, exposing the bad state of things in the country, Atiku Abubakar has expressed his sadness.
He penned down a message to those affected by the unfortunate incident, as well as the authorities who took control of the situation
His words read:
“My thoughts are with the fellow Nigerians who have lost lives and property in the tanker fire in Lagos.
My prayers go out to the first responders working hard to bring the blaze under control.”
Meanwhile, a fan could not but notice the increasing number of tweets by the lawmaker this year, as he took to comment saying;
“Baba has made over 600 tweets on deaths this year”
Up until the time of this report, President Buhari is yet to air his reaction to the reports.
It may seem as though all is not well between Fathia Balogun and her colleague in the movie industry, Dayo Amusa.
Dayo Amusa called out Fathia Balogun on social media for being hypocritical.
It happened that Fathia had taken to her Instagram page to warn people about a certain kind of friends.

“In organized societies, where traffic is a major issue, tankers and heavy duty vehicles move at night or at specified times. In developed climes, MOT agencies… are as serious as the police force. In some other climes, that have deep shores like we do, only one port can not be used for discharge of staples like fuel, and even then, fuel and transportation of inflammable contents are done in controlled methods. We are a Lawless country.
If government tries to organize these same tankers now, they will go on strike, shut down the economy and day to day running, and we will let them continue. Same thing with teachers… try to get them to go get retrained and be better qualified to teach, they will strike and we are back to status quo.
We do not punish people who even chop monies meant for projects. Projects that have been captured in the budget and monies released. The same people who chop the monies will now be in the ruling party and to prosecute them becomes a No No. And as nothing is done to them another person will do it. Just imagine.
Nigerians died today because of avoidable precautions and failure to create policies and laws that have consequences that could have detered that tanker from being on that road. But no. Law makers dont care. The Executives no send and the JUDICIARY is not jailing them. Bet me, more tankers will fall. Nothing will be done. Nothing”.
There was a fuel-laden tanker explosion along the Otedola bridge axis of Berger along Lagos-Ibadan expressway yesterday evening.
The blaze engulfed many vehicles and lives as well.

The presidency, describing the opposition party People’s Democratic Party (PDP)‘s declaration of 7 days of mourning for the Plateau killings as “irresponsible politics,” has listed the killings carried out during the party’s rule.
The killings were listed in a statement, titled “Plateau and PDP’s Crocodile Tears,” released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.
PDP is playing “cheap, infantile” politics, the statement read, dancing on the graves of the dead.
The statement is not to say more people were killed under the PDP government than under APC’s, it read, but to show that the killings have been happening for a while.

PLATEAU AND PDP’S CROCODILE TEARS – PRESIDENCY
The sad and unfortunate killings in Plateau State over the weekend have been turned to opportunity to once again play irresponsible politics, particularly by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which says it is declaring seven days of mourning.
These are dolorous times that call for deep introspection on how cheap human lives have become, and the proffering of actionable ideas on how to get out of the bind. But the PDP would rather dance on the graves of the dead, playing cheap, infantile politics.
The comatose and prostrate party is declaring seven days of mourning, during which flags in its offices would be flown at half mast nationwide. But unknown to the party, those flags had been forcefully lowered since its 2015 loss at the polls, and may remain so for a long time to come, because Nigerians are politically discerning, and cannot be hoodwinked by cheap antics.
A quick checklist of some savage and brutal killings in Nigeria during PDP rule, between 1999 and 2015, for which no national mourning was declared:
– November 20, 1999. Odi, in Bayelsa State, was invaded on orders of a PDP President. About 2,500 people killed. No national mourning.
– Between February and May, 2000, about 5,000 people were killed during riots over Sharia law in different parts of the North. No national mourning.
– In 2001, hundreds of people, including the old, infirm, women and children were killed in Zaki Biam. No crocodile tears.
– Between September 7-12, 2001, Jos, Plateau State, erupted in internecine killings. Between 500 and 1,000 people were killed. Flags were not flown at half mast.
– In February, 2004, at least 975 people were killed in Yelwa-Shendam, Plateau State. No mourning by the then ruling PDP.
– Between November 28 and 29, 2008, Jos was in flames again, with 381 deaths.
No mourning.
– In 2010, 992 people killed in Jos. Mum was the word.
– In 2014 alone, according to Global Terrorism Index, at least 1,229 people were killed in the Middle Belt. No mourning.
– Boko Haram killings in PDP years were over 10,000. PDP flags were still fluttering proudly in the sky.
Those who take pleasure in twisting statements from the Presidency may claim we are saying that many more people were killed under PDP than under President Muhammadu Buhari. It would be unconscionable to do so. The intendment of this statement is to show that wanton killings had been with us for awhile; this government is working towards enduring solutions; and should be given the opportunity to do so.
Even a single soul is precious, and no man should take a life, which he cannot create. But when tragic situations as had happened in Plateau State occur, such should never be used to play crude politics. Those who are wont to do so should have change of hearts, or lose their very humanity.

While the nation is still mourning over the Tanker Explosion that occurred hours ago (yesterday), at the Otedola Bridge axis of Berger in the commercial city of Lagos, along Lagos-Ibadan way, another truck rammed into a shop after its brake failed at Ojodu,close to Berger, Lagos state.
A truck carrying a container was said to have had its brake failed and while the driver was trying to control it ineffectively, the truck made its way into one of the shops of the locals. Though no life was lost, but properties were reported to have been destroyed.
A twitter user took to her page to report the incident and complain how trucks and tankers are always having the issue of brake fails and there is a need to check every vehicle before putting it on the road.
MACBAN’s chairman in the north-central zone, Danladi Ciroma, had earlier stated that the attacks in Jos is a form of retaliation for the surge in cattle rustling in the state.
He accused indigenous Berom youths of stealing cows from herdsmen, with about 300 cows lost to cattle rustling in the last few weeks.
However, Ciroma’s statement generated a lot of criticism from Nigerians who have largely blamed the association of enabling the killings of innocent people without facing any consequences from security agencies.
Ciroma has however come forward to adjust his statement.
He said: “We have never claimed responsibility and will never claim responsibility because the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association is a non-violent, peaceful association.
“We don’t encourage violence; we don’t accept it, support it, or condone it in any way and by whosoever.
“We don’t like violence. “Whoever is speaking on behalf of this association that’s not the national president, my humble self, the national secretary, or the national PRO, is on his own.
“He’s not speaking for the association; he’s speaking on behalf of his humble self, not the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.”
It’s easy to focus on how people are divided along tribal and religious lines, but several people are out there who aren’t letting these differences stop them from seeing the humanity in others.
One of them is this imam from the village of Nghar Yelwa in Plateau State, who saved 262 Christians from Fulani Herdsmen on Sunday.
The herdsmen had attacked 3 local governments in the state killing over 100 people, one of them Barkin Ladi, where the people had escaped from.
Sharing his story with BBC Pidgin, the imam said he first took the women, number about 60 to his home, and the men to the mosque to hide.
The herdsmen later accosted him, he shared, and ordered him to give up the Christians. But he lied and told them all the people with him were Muslims.
It’s so refreshing, seeing that some of us are not letting ideologies and religion and tribe divide us. So inspiring.
The Lagos State Government has released a statement commiserating with the families of those who lost their lives in the tanker explosion on Otedola Bridge.
30 vehicles had been reported burnt after a tanker exploded on the bridge.
Rescue agencies have been able to put out the fire.
The Lagos State Government, in the statement, said its thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims.
On behalf of the Lagos State Government, we extend our deepest commiseration to the families of persons who lost their lives as well as properties to the incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this time of pain and grief.
As a government, we would not relent in putting measures in place to ensure safety of lives and property of all residents.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has confirmed nine people dead and 53 vehicles burnt in the aftermath of the fuel tanker explosion on Otedola Bridge, inward Berger area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Thursday.
General Manager, LASEMA, Adesina Tiamiyu told PM News that the tanker fell around 5:53pm and exploded, while vehicle behind it were caught in the fire.
He said nine people were burnt beyond recognition while four others were rescued, with two in critical condition and two others with minor injuries.
According to him, 53 vehicles were consumed in the inferno, describing the incident as a sad one.
Tiamiyu added that officials of LASTMA, FRSC, LASEMA, Police, fire services, among others were still at the scene trying to evacuate the remains of the tanker and vehicles and free the road for vehicular movement.
A Zimbabwe based clergyman, Pastor Tito Wats has been arrested by the police authority for financial crime.
According to the police, Pastor Tito Wats told thousands of people that it was Jesus who appeared to him, then gave him tickets to people for $500 especially sinners so that they could also enter heaven.
“I don’t care what people or the police are saying about me, I am being persecuted because of doing the work of God.”
“Jesus Christ appeared to me and gave me the tickets made of pure gold so that I can sell to people who want salvation”, said the pastor
courageously.
Thousands of people are protesting at the pastor’s arrest and called on the police to release him immediately as they are using their own money to buy salvation.

Fans of the late rapper XXX Tentacion broke down in tears as thousands gathered at the open-casket memorial in his honour to pay him their last respect.

Also 22-year-old Robert Allen has been declared a person of interest in the fatal shooting of Maimi rapper XXXTentacion after surveillance footage released by the Police, showed him outside the motorcycle dealership.
Veteran Nigerian Actor, Yomi Fash-Lanso has written an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, in wake of the recent killings in Jos that has left scores dead.
The Actor took to his Instagram page to post pictures of the killings in Plateau, whilst questioning whether the President cared about ordinary Nigerians, or if he was only concerned about his tribesmen.

A yet to be identified man has filmed himself brutally beating his wife just for fun, then it was shared online.
The disturbing video showing the beating has gone viral and angered viewers. In it, the Mobile Alabama man is seen slapping the woman and stomping on her as she tries unsuccessfully to protect herself from the blows.
The video was recorded by a family member who did nothing to stop the assault. According to reports, the abusive man accused his wife of “telling their business” to the man’s son from a previous relationship.

I went to mass at Our Lady of Wisdom my childhood Catholic church in U.I March 12th 2017 till my life changed when I was dragged out of my home March 14th 2017 by armed Federal SARS police on orders of the IGP on behalf of a pastor. The #ptsd I have been battling has been ignored by everyone. My pain is too much. The recent Catholic church scandal and the ones I witnessed in America in the 90’s is enough. Before I joined Salvation Ministry I attended Catholic church in prison. There are 6 churches and a mosque for all 5000 prisoners. When I was released, I continued attending St Mary’s PH outside the prison till I decided to visit Salvation Ministries and meet the pastor that jailed me. I forgave him, he forgave me, told me to read the story of Saul to Paul. Pastor Ibiyeomie suffered me. He knew it. I made his church extra FAMOUS when I did a testimony cursing the sender of that letter to me telling ppl not to let the devil use you. His congregation prayed for global recognition and God gave them thru me. He preached about me at his #5Nog CD’s which I covered well. I enjoyed it. Many of you mocked me saying he gave me millions. I have NEVER asked him for a penny. The case was withdrawn. I’m SUICIDAL daily ? dreaming about how I was executed in prison and so many traumatic flashbacks. It’s been a cold, sad few days for me and I cannot even imagine how defiled the people of Riyom, Barakin Ladi and Jos South local government areas feel, I cannot pretend to know what D’banj, wife and family are going through but my prayers are with them. Odion Ighalo, has reacted to the alleged death threat issued to his family in Lagos on social media due to his failure to score goals from clear-cut opportunities against Argentina, saying it was not deliberate.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Ighalo, who replaced Kelechi Ihanacho in the second half of the match between Nigeria and Argentina in the ongoing World Cup in Russia, failed to convert a pass from Ahmed Musa had incurred the anger of fans.
NAN reports that most Nigerian fans strongly believed that if Ighalo had scored the goal, it would have seen the Super Eagles through to the Round of 16 of the World Cup.
Speaking through his Social Media timeline, Ighalo, who was involved in Nigeria’s qualification for the World Cup, said that he regretted not scoring the crucial goal.
“It is a great experience to play at the World Cup and I enjoyed every moment of it, but sometimes things don’t work the way you want.
“But life has to go on, I am grateful to God I did not sustain any injury,’’ he said.
He added that “all those, who want to kill him” should remember, he is someone else’s child. “For all those that want to kill me abeg na person pikin I be o it’s well.”
NAN reports that after the match which generated a lot of ill-comments from fans, the Changchun Yatai F.C. of China’s striker, apologised to Nigerians and assumed personal responsibility for the blunder.
Former Nigerian Football Legend and sports administrator, Segun Odegbami has made his governorship ambition known.
He made the confirmation via his Facebook page where he revealed that he will be contesting in the Ogun state governorship election.
Segun Odegbami wrote:
“I am going to stay around for a little while longer, still watch and report any interesting events around here, and properly think through my next project.
“Now more than ever before I know for sure why I want to contest for the office of governor of my State. The thought of a Footballer in government house excites many who have heard the rumour here. It will surely attract all manner of reactions back in my State,” he wrote.
Odegbami added that:
“Politics in the most sophisticated environment in Nigeria, for all things progressive, may never be the same again. I am looking forward to the challenge in faith and with hope.”

Born on August 27, 1957 in Abeokuta Ogun State, Mr Odegbami was brought up in the northern city of Jos, Plateau State. Mr Odegbami played for IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan his entire career, from 1970 to 1984.
