In line with its status as the game changer in telecommunications services provision in Nigeria, @globacomlimited has again taken another step towards the transformation of the ICT landscape in Nigeria with the construction of a multi-billion naira optic fibre submarine cable.
Tagged Glo 2, the road map for the project was unveiled at a contract-signing ceremony between the national operator, Globacom, and global telecom solutions vendors, Huawei at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Tuesday.
According to Globacom’s Regional Director, Technical, Mr Sanjib Roy “The new submarine cable will be approximately 850 kilometres long and will be integrated to Globacom’s existing terrestrial Backbone Network to provide additional service redundancy”, especially in Abuja and other parts of the country. #Glo2 will have the capacity of 12 Terabytes per second and will provide ultra-high speed connection to oil platforms and communities to empower data coverage and support Enterprise market growth in this part of Nigeria.”
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Huawei Nigeria, Mr Li Beifang, said that “Huawei is proud to partner with Globacom to build a revolutionary submarine cable using innovative and leading technology. We believe the cable would bring a new era of digitalization to Nigerian economy”.
Glo2 complements the Glo 1 international submarine cable built by Globacom in 2010. It is the only international submarine cable in Nigeria managed end to end, from Lagos to London, by one Company and currently provides sufficient bandwidth for the West Africa sub-region.

Top Nigerian comedian, Funnybone has dished out an advice for housemates of the 2018 edition of the Big Brother Naija Reality show, just days after the show got met its end.
The comedian who advised all housemates to grab all they can now as Nigerians are like a moving train – they pause to observe and admire, afterwards they keep moving without looking back – admitted that Africa and Nigerians have never been this entertained before and so the housemates should make the best of what they have now.
In advising them, he disclosed that a certain housemate was called for a movie role, but she said she was busy with meeting and greeting fans.

The second issue of Big Brother Naija’s finalist, T-Boss has spoken on the relationship between housemates in the just concluded Big Brother Naija reality television show, Tobi and Cee-c.
In TBoss’s opinion, while speaking with The Net, she does not think Tobi and Cee-c can or should have a romantic relationship.
She, however, insisted that they could be friends – she offered to have a discussion with the duo.
“I will like to talk to Cee-C and probably to Tobi as well. I will like to have a one-on one with those two people.

A Nigerian woman identified as Blessing Abeng has written an open letter to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie after she questioned Hilary Clinton on her choice of Twitter bio.
Blessing, who said she mostly agrees with Chimamanda but doesn’t agree with her statement to Hillary Clinton, suggested in her letter, a different approach that can be taken to achieve the sort of gender equality where everyone is truly equal.
Blessing suggested that rather than push for feminism, egalitarianism should be the way to go, so that the rights of not just women, but also that of men, is taken into consideration.
Her post has gone viral with a lot of people agreeing with her opinion. One of those who agree with her is Betty Irabor.

The Indian Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted an international drugs smuggling racket and seized condoms filled with liquid cocaine.
Two Brazilians and a Nigerian were arrested by the agency from a guest house in the Paharganj area of central Delhi on April 16, as part of an intelligence-based operation of the anti-narcotics agency.
About 2.6 kgs of liquid cocaine, a party drug, was found concealed in condoms and kept in tin boxes by the two people from Brazil and they were supposed to hand it over to a Nigerian man.
The three persons have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) zonal Director Madho Singh said.
“The trafficking of liquid cocaine concealed in food stuff from South American countries to India is a new modus operandi being adopted by African syndicates to deceive the drug law enforcement officers,”
A slay queen who prides herself as a slayer on Social media was recently spotted in her area where she was fetching water with a two 25 litre kegs, carrying them on both hands.
She was spotted by someone, who took the video, and probably mentioned her name.. Upon hearing what the person with the camera exclaimed, she ran.

Tonto Dikeh was quick to reply Tunde, defending Nina. Tonto wrote;

Meanwhile, Ex Big Brother Naija housemate, Vandora has explained why she celebrated Tobi’s eviction during the grand finale of the reality TV show.
Some fans on social media had on Monday attacked the former housemate for celebrating Tobi’s eviction and supporting Cee-c.
However, Vandora, in a post on Instagram, said she disliked Tobi for saying things she does not appreciate, adding that her dislike for Tobi is a mutual feeling.

The alleged victim in the sex-for-marks scandal, Miss Monica Osagie affirmed before an investigate panel that Prof. Richard Akindele deliberately failed her because she refused his sexual demand.
Osagie, a postgraduate student in the Masters of Business programme, had released a recorded telephone conversation, which went viral, in which the lecturer identified as Akindele, allegedly demanded sex for marks.
The committee, which held its session at the Pro -Chancellor’s Lodge on the campus, allowed only Osagie and her counsel into the venue.
Journalists, students and some members of the National Human Right Commission who came to witness the sitting were not allowed into the venue by security personnel of the institution who manned the entrance.
Akinyode-Afolabi, who spoke with newsmen after the closed door session which lasted for more than seven hours, said Osagie told the panel that she passed the course but was later failed by the don because of her refusal to sleep with him.
She said that Osagie narrated in details what transpired between her and the don, adding that lawyers present at the meeting were not allowed to make any contribution.
Akinyode-Afolabi , who is the Executive Director for Human Advocate Research and Documentation Centre, Abuja, said that Osagie also informed the panel that she recorded the conversation between her and the professor as evidence.
She said Osagie also informed the panel that she reported the sexual harassment by the don to some lecturers in the university, adding that no action was taken by them.
Akinyode-Afolabi said some lawyers who represented the lecturers who Osagie claimed she reported the case to also appeared before the panel.
She said that Osagie also told the panel that she did not score 33 per cent as alleged but was failed so that she could bow to the sexual demand of the don.
Akinyode-Afolabi said she was optimistic that the outcome of the panel would serve as a lesson to other lecturers who also engage in such acts.
She, however, urged the panel to ensure that justice prevailed on the issue so as to maintain the integrity of the institution.
Akinyode-Afolabi, who did not allow Osagie to talk to newsmen, said her client would always be available to give evidence whenever she was called upon.
Members of the panel did not also speak with newsmen after the meeting.
