Lagos state government files lawsuit against AY & Davido for tax evasion

The Lagos state government has reportedly filed a lawsuit against singer Davido and comedian, AY Makun, for tax evasion.

A report by Punch revealed the entertainers have had a long-running battle with the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) over alleged tax evasion.

Davido was reportedly charged before a Lagos high court in July 2017 while AY was said to have been charged to court in 2016 for failing to file his tax returns.

DMW’s boss – Davido is said to have told LIRS officials that he pays his taxes to Osun state government since he is an indigene of the state while AY said he makes his tax payments to Ondo state.

An Official of the Lagos state Government had this to say on the matter;

“Remember that Davido said he made N500m from his N30bn concert recently. We must know how much he paid to the LIRS. AY too said the same thing.

The comedian claimed to be paying his taxes to Ondo State, where he hails from. It seems these celebrities don’t understand that the tax law stipulates that you must pay your tax to your state of residence.

Anyway, we are already in court. Others will soon appear in court if they don’t obey the state tax law. You can’t be making money in Lagos and refuse to pay tax.”

“I am making money, you’re making noise,” — Rapper CDQ blasts M.I. Abaga

Nigerian rapper, M.I. Abaga during the Soundcity MVp awards on the 12th of January at Eko Hotels in Lagos urged all rappers to “pick up their pens and start writing”.

Apparently, CDQ does not share the same sentiment as M.I. Abaga, as he took to the gram to blast the rapper. The indigenous rapper posted in Yoruba; “Egbon e lo joko jur. Film ni gbogbo eleyi ten act yi. Nothing like Naija Hiphop. Hiphop is Hiphop…. a wan pawo eyin pariwo”.

CDQ

Which translates to “Bros, go and sit down. You’re just acting for the camera. There’s nothing like Naija hiphop.. Hiphop is Hiphop. We are making money, you’re making noise..”

“I regret getting married” — Gifty powers

One of Big Brother Nigeria 2017 controversial housemates , Gifty Powers or simply Gifty, has in a new interview with PUNCH revealed that she regrets getting married.

Recall, She recently penned down some words of advice to her fellow women on relationship and men generally on social media.

She took to her Instagram story to write ;

You don’t need to break your head or cry to God to give you a GOOD/FAITHFUL man + you don’t need a complicated set of rules in searching for him. If he truly loves you, he will go extra miles in making you his love forever. Never expect a man to be faithful to you. All what you should do is be an amazing gf/wife

Well, in the Interview, she opened up about her life after the Big Brother Naija show, her acting career, marriage and other things about her.

Read excerpts from the interview…

Background

My grandfather is from Obosi in Anambra State. He is a Reverend Father and a barrister. He married my grandmother who is partly Liberian and Sierra Leonean, and they gave birth to my mum before they got divorced. I am my parents’ first daughter, but I’m the second child. I grew up in Ghana, Accra precisely.

Education

For my post-elementary education, I attended St. Theresa International School, Accra, Ghana. For my tertiary education, I attended University of Legon, Ghana.

Acting

I first knew that I wanted to become an actress at the age of 15, but my mum once told me that at the age of five, I used to apply her lipstick and stand in front of her mirror to act. However, I joined the movie industry in an absurd manner. I can’t remember the exact year but on a hot Saturday, I drove in my friend’s car to buy some things. While driving, someone hit the car and I became angry. He apologised and introduced himself as a movie producer. He gave me his complimentary card but still I insisted that  he fixed the car. The following week, I went to a location and I was given a sub-lead role.

Music

I have appeared in a lot of music videos, that I have lost count of the number. It has been my mum’s dream for a very long time that I should become a singer. She tells me that there is a future for me in music, so yes; there is a chance that I may delve into music. I recently went to a friend’s studio and soon, I will be releasing something cool.

Lessons

While growing up, I faced a lot of humiliation with my mum and siblings, and that really taught me a few lessons about life that cannot be forgotten. Some people say to me that I’m not the only one that has suffered, but I believe that it’s not about how easily the words come out of your mouth; it’s about how well you can tell your story. I don’t have any challenges. Challenges are rather scared of me. If you cannot make the necessary moves while young, then you would have to sit in a corner and cry out your eyeballs while watching your mates doing what you should have done. Don’t blame the devil if you’re too lazy to climb that ladder.

Big Brother Naija

I had a great time at Big Brother Naija. I enjoyed the Friday game nights the most. I also enjoyed the tasks, the truth or dare nights, the shower hours, and hearing Big Brother speak. One of the lessons I learnt while in the house is that one has to be tolerant. If I were to go back into the house again, I wouldn’t show the insane part of Gifty Powers. However, making out with guys in the house was a strategy and I don’t regret it at all. I will do it again if I have to.

Breakthrough

A lot of opportunities have come my way after Big Brother Naija. Every second of my career has been amazing.

Marriage

I do feel like I got married too early. However, I plan to give details about what actually happened. It’s a big regret that I wouldn’t stop talking about. I thought I was in love but I found out that it was just lust. I didn’t make proper findings before saying ‘I do.’ I went through hell and I don’t wish the same for my enemies. It is part of my life’s experience and I’m glad that I conquered it all.

Mr. 2kay

To be honest with you, I don’t know how to define my relationship with Mr. 2kay. I’m still searching for a term to describe it.

Current projects

I have some employees who manufacture skin products. That’s because I have been asked several questions on what I apply on my skin that makes it glow so much. I also have Gifty Powers Lingerie for both men and women, though I have yet to launch it. I have a lot of crazy ideas, and it would shock you to know that I may even be aiming to climb the highest mountain in the world.

Romance

To be my ideal man, all you have to do is to be yourself. I can date and marry someone in the entertainment industry. Understanding is all that is needed to make it work.

Scandals

Whenever I read or hear negative things about me, I become amused. They also embolden me. It feels special to be wanted. Even an unborn baby has enemies.

Role models

I admire Kim Kardashian and she has influenced me in several ways. Aside from her maturity and strength, which are out of this world, I love her style. I also admire my mum. She was once a runway supermodel who practised abroad. Due to her experience and exposure, she designs my clothes. At 51, she has the strength of a 12-year-old girl.

Balance

My mum always tells me never to stop trying if I want to make it in life. You have to work till you are able to get what you want. My mum manages my company. She handles its operations whenever I’m busy with other things, and I pay her.

Fashion

I love to step out looking classy, elegant and sexy.

Relaxation

I relax by spending time with my nuclear family or by going to the club with my mum.

“My husband was shocked at the social media drama after I deleted his photos” – Mercy Johnson

Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okogie has disclosed that the social media reactions that trailed her decision to delete pictures of her husband from her Instagram page, left her husband in shock.

Recall, Last week there was panic among the actress’ fans that her marriage of over six years was in crisis after she deleted all photos of her husband, Prince Odianosen Okojie, including those they took together, from her Instagram page.

Although, she later insisted that her marriage was intact by posting a photo of herself and her husband in bed and reading the bible together.

Well, Mercy Johnson did not shed more light on the reason behind the move to sanitize her social media page.

The mother of three while speaking to The NET, has now revealed that deleting ‘old’ pictures from her social media pages is a routine she carries out from time to time.

She said:

“I usually delete all the pictures on my page from time to time and this time around, I didn’t just delete my husband’s pictures, I deleted photos of me and my children”.

Mercy Johnson added that the reactions that trailed the move on social media left her husband in shock.

“In fact, my husband is in shock at the drama emanating from social media. We had a photo shoot and of course you know the new year swag na, so I said to delete the old pictures I had, which is what I do normally, na im e backfire oooo”, she says in a mixture of English and pidgin.

“I will still celebrate 10 years with my sexy Odi by God’s grace and I appreciate all my fans for expressing their concern over the issue. God bless you all”, she added.

Negative comments don’t bother me — BBNaija 2017 Winner Efe speaks.

BBNaija 2017 Winner Efe

Winner of the 2017 edition of Big Brother Naija, Efe Ejeba, has revealed that he hardly uses the different social media platforms in vogue today and as such, negative comments from trolls on these platforms do not bother him.

BBNaija 2017 Winner Efe

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, he said,

“The truth is that I don’t know what is happening on social media. When I wake up in the morning, I pray, eat, record songs and I release them. I don’t hear what people say about my music. I am not disturbed about negative comments because it is normal for people to have different views about whatever you do.”

The based on logistics singer also said he could not remember having any dealings with an on-air personality, who called him out on social media during the week for disrespecting him.

According to the OAP, Efe didn’t honour an invitation for an interview even after they had reached an agreement.

Reacting to the issue, Efe said,

“I haven’t heard anything like that. Like I said, I am not a social media person. I visit social media once in a while because of the industry I am in. I only go online when I want to post things that are important to me and I log off immediately after that. The truth is that I cannot remember having such discussion with any OAP.”

BBNaija 2017 Winner Efe

The singer insisted that he had a good year in 2017 ,despite the insinuation by some music followers that he needs to improve on his music to compete in the industry.

“Considering where I am coming from, I experienced massive growth in my career last year. Right now, I have the attention of the people and that is the most important thing. But I hope to do more this year, which is natural for every youth that dreams.

“I don’t feel any pressure. I am just doing my music. If there is any pressure, it is from within because I try to push myself every day. This year, I plan to release more music and videos, and I will put the rest in the hands of God. The industry is growing and I am happy to be part of it at the moment,”

I didn’t lie about N14m stolen from me — Mr. Ibu

In what was an unexpected start to the new year, news made round that the house of Nigeria’s beloved comic actor, John Okafor, aka Mr. Ibu, was robbed and that he lost over N14m to the thieves.

While many sympathised with the actor, others also questioned why the actor would keep such a large sum of money in his house, considering the cashless policy adopted by most Nigerians. Some people also insinuated that the actor exaggerated about the amount he lost to the robbery.

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, the veteran actor made some clarifications. He said,

“When I said I lost N14m, there was a misconception that it was all in cash but that was not the case.

One million naira cash, and properties worth over N13m were carted away. Some of the items the robbers stole included gold wristwatches, necklaces and jewellery. They also stole shoes belonging to me and my wife, and a lot of other items.

The trauma is still very much for my wife and kids. They are still in shock because the thieves knocked down the doors of the house and you can imagine the type of noise they would have made at the time they came, which was about 3am.”

“The total cost of all the things that were stolen is even more than the N14m that I said. I have no reasons to lie about that.”

“I live in a renowned estate for crying out loud, and we have different types of security in place. I am totally surprised as to how such an incident could have happened.

Right now, I feel someone gave the robbers some information. However, some arrests have been made already. We identified two of us those who were arrested from the CCTV footage.”

I don’t care about Reekado Banks — Lil Kesh

YAGI Boss, Lil Kesh has finally had something to say as regards Reekado Banks claims that he is a better musician than he is.

Lil Kesh

Recall Reekado Banks made a statement during his “Thank You Concert” in Ibadan where he said that he was better than Lil Kesh and that there was no basis for comparison.

It should be recalled also that the two artistes had a ‘beef’ at the 2015 Headies Awards. Reekado Banks took home the award for the Next Rated Artiste, which came with a new SUV and this caused a stir as some people had thought Lil Kesh would win the award.

Lil Kesh in an interview with Saturday Beats, said: “I saw the video online where Reekado Banks said that he was better than me, but I have nothing to say about that. I don’t care what anybody says, and I don’t have any feelings regarding what he said because I am just in my own world.”

“I was not scared when I took the step to leave Olamide’s record label. I am never scared; I just knew it was the right move, so I was never scared. So far, I think the steps have helped me more as a person and as a brand. For one, I am a better person mentally and right now, I am not an instrument for the growth of someone’s business. Instead, I am instrumental to my own growth.

“Looking at the financial side as well, it was a good step. I cannot say I would reap what I have sown immediately, but every move I make now is to ensure I have a brighter future. I am doing all this for the future.

“When I announced that I left Olamide’s record label, some people were sceptical, but I proved them wrong by releasing hit songs. To me, there was no option of failure; it was a win-win situation. That was my strength and my fans have been so amazing in motivatting me. Thanks to my fans. With little effort, the results have always been amazing.

“Life as a label owner compared to when I was under a record label is good, but I have more responsibilities now. Life is a bit tougher now because of the responsibilities; it depicts growth and leaving YBNL was a very big step in my life,” the singer said.

Ghana records 80% increase in HIV in 2017 — Report

The 2017 Ghana AIDS Commission report on HIV/AIDS infection shows an 80% increases in new cases.

The report also indicates that the Volta Region and Brong Ahafo Region topped the chart of HIV/AIDS prevalence.

The findings were revealed at the Commission’s two–day annual strategic planning meeting.

The Ghana AIDS Commission is, therefore, asking Ghanaians to be extra careful in order not to contract the deadly disease.

Director-General of the Commission, Ambassador Dr Amokowa Blay Adu-Gyamfi made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to voluntarily test for the virus.

She asked persons living with the virus to stick to the approved anti-retroviral drugs because there was no herbal cure for the disease yet.

“We are not condemning them (herbalist), we are just saying that there is no herbal cure as yet for HIV. If you want to take them it’s up to you. But then take your anti-retroviral medication,” she said.

She said the activities of the gay community – the key population – are to blame for the sharp increase in HIV infection.

A large proportion of the new HIV/AIDS cases were pregnant women, the report also revealed.

Meanwhile Nigeria had the second largest HIV epidemic in 2016, with over 196,000 adolescents representing 10 per cent of the global burden said to be living with HIV/AIDS, according to a World Health Report.

The report was given by Mrs Esther Samuel, The Chief Matron, Lagos State Ministry of Health, at a programme by a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) Lisa Demi Project, in Lagos. AIDS SYMBOL Newsmen report that Lisa Demi Project, initiated in the U.K., seeks address the sexual health issues through Talks, Counselling and Entertainment among others.

The programme, held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere, Lagos on Thursday, and title “ Let’s Talk about Our Sexual Health’’, is targeted at teenagers between the ages 14 to 24. Speaking on the dangers of unrestrained sexual activities among the youths, Samuel said the statistics from the health sector remained a concern.

“I find it hard to break up with her because her ‘privates’ is too sweet”

There is this babe i have been dating on/ off for close to 3 years now. We have had countless arguments but we always settle.

I find it hard to break up with her, because her private-part is so sweet!! Not all privates are the same to be honest. Her own is like cocaine.

Very fresh and clean. I dont know if it is lust or love but nowadays nothing she does is wrong in my eyes.

I have made attempts to take it to the next level with her but she said her people dont accept mbaise men. (She is from agulu, anambra)

The only problem i have with her is that she bugs me for money all the time but i have been able to handle it.

She prefers friends with benefits arrangements, of which i pay her a token. I am considering getting her pregnant to tie her down regardless of consequences.

Please i need mature advice on how to move on from her because even if i marry someone else. I will still be banging her which i don’t want to do.

With the caption; “Happy matriculation to me ✌️It’s a new beginning Thank you lord”

“I dated her for 8 years, never had sex with her, after Her MSc, she dumped me”

Heard this and almost cried my eyes off. Each time I get to hear some ladies say, “men are scum”, I seldom keep quiet because I have loads of stories and experiences which when shared will not only silence them but may change their mentality about the “men are scum phrase.”

So, a friend visited my house days back, whilst gisting, he shared a story about a bosom friend of his, who almost committed suicide over the girl he dated. We will use Mr. I as the boyfriend and Ms. I as the girlfriend. I will try as much as possible to cut the long story short.

According to him, Mr. I had been dating Ms. I since 2008, he was in the university then, 200 level to be precise, whilst she was about finishing secondary school. And like many young lovers, everything was good and going fine except the usual “childish mentality” from both parties of course.

Things kept blossoming, everything soft and nice. She got into the university, a private Nigerian university, fortunately for Mr. I, it wasn’t one of those universities where phones weren’t allowed, so they kept communicating and in fact, since the relationship gradually started maturing, their love kept shinning bright like a diamond.. So bright that other male chyker’s couldn’t approach Ms. I because almost everyone in campus knew she was “bae-gaged.” Yes, she was that proud of her bae then.

Mr. I never missed the opportunity of leaving his university to visit her every weekend, notwithstanding the distance.. Oh, I forgot to tell you, he schooled in far away East, whilst she schooled in the West. And the journey from his university to hers took him 7-8 hours by road and of course, he always used road except extreme cases where he decided to use flight.

Not only did he risk his life plying bad roads every weekend just to see bae, he also made sure he got stuffs for her, food stuffs and sometimes money (He took it upon himself to bring provisions and money two weekends out of four, monthly). Indeed, bae was balling, no wonder she was so bae-gaged!

And whenever they were on break, back to their respective homes (fortunately they both lived in Lagos), he was with her almost every other day. In fact, both parents knew they were dating. Yes, and they both approved of it. Indeed, Mr. I was happy, he had the acceptance of bae’s family members and of course, the heart of bae (So he thought).

A couple of times, when bae resumed a new semester and Mr. I was still home, boss-man will take it upon himself to fuel his car and drive his woman to her uni, not only that, sometimes took provisions to bae’s siblings’ schools too. Mr. I was in love, so he just wanted to make her family members love him more.. Every guy who has truly loved, will know this feeling..

“Mans” was usually broke in school because of bae, you know, bae schooled in a private university and lifestyle was more expensive there. Of course, to please bae and make her family know he was man enough, Mr. I usually soaked garri in his hostel whilst he sent the food stuffs given to him by his parents to his girl.. Love nwantiti right?

Fast forward to his graduation, he got a job which wasn’t well-paying like that, but always made sure 50% of his salary went to bae’s account. Yes a whole 50%.. (It was at this point I literally started tearing up. A tear dropped from my eye and I am certain my friend saw this. If only he knew that I was tearing up because I couldn’t really fathom how mans was so in love that he forgot there is a difference between a girlfriend and a wife). Worst still is, he hadn’t even engaged her yet! Oh my gosh!!!!

Well, love was still there (so he thought). All through the years of dating, spending, killing himself to please she and her family, he never for once had any sexual relation with her. Never for once, because she claimed to be a virgin. The best he ever got was a kiss.. A kiss bruh!

Fast forward to when she graduated from university, Mr. I threw a big party for her. Hosted over 30 people (friends and family). Spent close to N650K on the bash (Unbeknownst to his siblings, he borrowed a huge sum of money from his friends so as to make the party a huge success)… And a huge one it was (At this point I started thinking, If only he had engaged her at the bash he threw for her, maybe things would have turned out differently)… Well, who knows, right?

Months after she graduated, he lost favour from his employers, so he was sacked. Things dwindled from his end so his usual 50% to his bae, stopped. 3 months after he lost his job, bae informed him she was going to study abroad, going for her masters’ program in Russia. (Funny thing is, she never told him when she even applied nor got accepted). Well, she apologised, he forgave and they were still chilling.

Weeks later, it was time for her to travel, he dropped her off at the airport, they did the usual (kissed and bid themselves goodbyes right in front of her fam.. Yes, they were that close you know!).

Chatting, skyping, doing all sort of things, all these lasted for 3 to 4 months of her stay in Russia. Things became bad afterwards, communication not only dwindled but it dissolved, “mans” was no longer getting attention, “mans” was confused yet still going to bae’s house to help out in one or two errands for fam.

To cut the long story short….. Few weeks before she was done with her programme, she sent a text, which read, “We can’t be together anymore, I am sorry.” …. That was all, 8 years and that’s all she sent. No explanation as to why she wanted to call quits. (Cold right?)

Mr. I lost it at this point, became severely depressed, in fact, he was almost going insane. He had to be on drugs. Severally tried suicide but luckily for him, his younger brother came to the rescue. He was eventually admitted in Lagoon for 5 weeks.

This was the period bae came back. Bad thing is, she didn’t even bother informing him she was coming back and worst thing is, when she eventually heard he was hospitalised, she didn’t step her foot in Lagoon hospital.. A cruel world right?

Right as we speak, Mr. I has been in and out of hospital, going through one or two crisis. He has lost touch of reality and become a shadow of himself, whereas Ms. I hasn’t bothered seeing him since she came back to Nigeria and in fact, is about to be wed in April 2018.

Love is a beautiful thing only and when it is true and mutual so children of the world, love with your heart, but use your brain!

A Nigerian man has taken to Twitter to share his hilarious experience with a Muslim tricycle driver in Awolowo road, Lagos, on 11th January.

The man who goes by the handle @trafels said the driver wanted to go to Mosque for prayers after he drops him because they were both going same route, but saw more passengers and wanted to do another trip.

He then advised the driver to go to Mosque to pray instead, that he would still get more passengers after the prayer which won’t take long.

Read below ;

“Lunch hour yesterday, I took a Keke napep to get to Awolowo road. I was the only one in it and the driver was feeling chatty. He told me he was heading to the mosque for prayers but he decided to pick me since it was the same route.

At Keffi, he noticed some passengers and..

I knew he was thinking of doing a return trip real quick, so I decided to preach. I told him to go for prayers since that was the initial plan, there will always be passengers when he’s done and it’s not going to take much of his time anyways.

Dude laughed and commended me saying “Oga, you be good man. For this country, everybody don chase money forget God, I go do wetin you talk”. I felt good & told him to keep the change.

Soon as I alighted, man did a u-turn and rushed back the way we came to pick the passengers.

I just stood there like”

“I am extremely pretty” — Toyin Abraham

Nollywoood Actress, Toyin Aimahku has declared herself “an extremely pretty goddess”, and she took to her Instagram page to brag about it.

She wrote while sharing the above photo thus: “I hate bragging..I AM EXTREMELY PRETTY #SEVENANDAHALFDATE #nomakeup #toopretty”

Meanwhile, the actress talked about her past, and opened up on how she abused hard drugs like marijuana and codeine.

The actress made the disclosure at the 2017 edition of Success Story Africa, held at the TLC Auditorium, Lagos, on Sunday.

“You need to stop bad habits. I was involved in a lot of vices and it became worse last year,” she said at the event.

“I did drugs and I am not ashamed to say it because it’s now a thing of the past. They say codeine makes you high; I took a lot. I smoked a lot and I didn’t even know I looked horrible, because I was so skinny.

“If you came to my house last year, you would meet a lot of people and you wont want to leave because we smoked, gossiped about people and what have you.”

The actress also revealed that she once hawked plantain chips to help feed her family.

She said growing up was not easy for her because her family was not financially buoyant, although things worked out for them because they worked hard and were “spiritually buoyant”.

She also talked about the mistakes she has made in the entertainment industry and how she has not let the negativity shape her.

“I made a lot of mistakes when I began acting and that was because I did not have plans. I just wanted to be known.

“But, I now know that being popular isn’t the same thing as being successful. When I got into the industry and the fame became too much, I became irresponsible.

“I could not boast of N1 million in 2016. I was making money and I wanted to feel among. When one of our colleagues bought a car, it was trouble because we all strove to buy the same car or a bigger one.

“I had to change my circle for good and this change started in March 2017.”

Previously called Toyin Aimakhu, the actress changed her name to Toyin Abraham in December 2016.

The well-attended event also featured inspiring speeches by ace comedian, Bovi Ugboma; and Commissioner for Information, Ogun State, Dayo Adeneye, among other speakers.

I wept the day someone said I made more money being fat’ – Comedian Lepacious Bose

Lepacious Bose

Female comedian, Lepacious Bose who is still rocking her miraculous weight loss, has once again spoken about her weight loss and the challenges that has come with it.

Lepacious Bose

In a recent interview with Telegraph, Bose said ;

‘on the internet, people said so many negative things about me. At the time, I kept asking myself if what I did was wrong. I had to learn how people’s opinion should not define me. It was a shaky time for me. So, it was important to address why I did what I did. I knew I didn’t lose weight because of people. I knew it wasn’t because I wanted attention that I shed all that fat. It was because of me’.

The comedian who dropped from being a size 32 to a size 14 also said, ‘someone asked me why I decided to lose weight. He said I was making lots of money with my former weight as a comedian. I was like, ‘O yes, I was making a lot of money as a comedian, however, I needed to lose weight for a number of reasons. This person put the story out, saying I was making more money when I was fat than now that I am slim. It made me look ridiculous. I was upset. To be honest, I cried. Until I realised that people’s opinion should not define me’.
