Widow of late Senator Francis Okpozo, Mrs. Anna, has asked President Mohammadu Buhari to appoint another member of the family for the board appointment given to her late husband.
The name of Senator Okpozo who died in December last year appeared on the list of Board appointments released by the Federal Government on Friday.
Late Okpozo was appointed as Chairman of Nigeria Press Council, but his wife said the appointment came too late.
His widow who said the name of her late husband on the list was a surprise to her added that she would not pick offence over the development.
Anna however said she would not take the incident in bad faith.
She acknowledged the appointment of one of her sons, Harrison Okpozo, as member of Board of National Commission for Museums and Monuments, and urged President Buhari to consider any member of the Okpozo’s family to replace her late husband.
“I want to tell Mr. President that my husband that he gave appointment is no longer alive. To be frank, if not for my husband, he would not have got the votes he got in Delta State during his primaries, and the main election he tried even though he was starved of funds.
“During the President’s inauguration, my husband was in Abuja. When the President was away attending to his health, my husband fell sick. I appeal to the President to consider any other person from the family to take the place of my late husband.
“I am not picking any offence at all because as a President, he cannot know everything about everybody in the whole country. Maybe he had delegated the thing (selection) to some people to do and they did not consult but just published it (list).
“My husband died on December 26, 2016. So, I cannot cry over split milk. He is gone; the living can forge ahead. But I commend Buhari for remembering my son.”
Danny Kay, 26, of Derby, who spent more than two years in jail for a rape he did not commit, had his conviction quashed after a relative uncovered a series of bombshell Facebook messages – missed by police – that proved his innocence.
In the latest rape case to highlight failings in the criminal justice system, The Mail on Sunday can reveal that the jury at Danny Kay’s 2013 trial was only shown doctored transcripts of crucial Facebook chats between Mr Kay and his accuser.
In an exclusive interview with the MoS, Mr Kay said archived versions of the original messages – proving he had consensual sex with his accuser – were found by his sister-in-law, Sarah Maddison .
When she showed the Facebook exchange to the officer in charge of the investigation, he said: ‘How did you know how to find the messages and we didn’t?’
The Appeal Court heard earlier this month that police relied on an ‘edited and misleading’ account of the Facebook conversation that was given to them by the complainant in the weeks after she claimed she was raped by Mr Kay.
Mr Kay, 26, said: ‘Even now, with the conviction quashed, I still can’t believe that it took years of pain and stress for this nightmare to end. And the terrifying thought is that if the police and justice system could fail me like this, it could happen to anyone.
The man pictured was caught allegedly having sex with a pregnant goat in Benin City, Edo State.

The cry of the goat apparently, attracted neighbors and passersby, who forced his door open, and cauht him in the act.
The representatives of the leader of the community who arrived at the scene later disclosed that Rambo is a serial rapist. One of them said:
“He did not start this today. He has done it in Ogba and Ibieguai before he was chased out of these communities.
He stole there too, we have told his father and mother to leave the community immediately. We have left him before now because his father is a good man, he has to make some sacrifice to appease the land, and after that, he will leave this community with his mother.”

The police have said that making phone calls at filling stations is a criminal offence which could land the offender in jail.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, stated that an offender could be prosecuted and jailed for attempted arson.
He noted that police officers have the authority to arrest anyone found making phone calls or smoking at filling stations.
He described the filling station as a public facility where motorists cannot act as they like on account of the inflammable products like petrol and other petroleum products being dispensed there.
Moshood, therefore, cautioned the public against violating the safety rules forbidding smoking and phone calls at filling stations.
He said, “Making phone calls or smoking at filling stations is a criminal offence and the police, of course, could arrest anyone violating the safety rules put in place to safeguard life and property at the filling stations.”

Songstress, Simi has just shared on Twitter, things she feels need to end with the year 2017.
According to the singer, “Cyber bullies need to expire this year. “Trending is nonsense if you’re trending for being a shitty person. Try not to say things about people on social media that you wouldn’t like to be said about you. You’re a coward if you’re an idiot bully hiding behind a keyboard’.
Below is her full note;
“Everything ain’t for everybody…”
“Instead of being mad at something u’re not feeling, find the one you like and keep it moving – so the people that like it can see road to pass.”
“And I hope we can leave this putting people up against each other in 2017. The sky is big enough! The world is big enough. Get Over It!”
“Cyber bullies also need to expire this year. Trending is nonsense if you’re trending for being a shitty person. Try not to say things about people on social media that you wouldn’t like to be said about you. You’re a coward if you’re an idiot bully hiding behind a keyboard.”
“Also, if you really want to do something with your life that you’ve been scared of doing – 2018 is the year that you do it scared. You get to live this life one time. No do-overs. And I hear when we get old, we regret the things we didn’t do. Live life. If you fail – u try again.”

“You don’t need a Plan B when your Plan A is the King of Kings! I have been and will forever be grateful for the life God has given me and the plans He has for me. I am deserving, not because I am perfect (heck no!), but because I’m His child and covered by His grace.”
Mr. Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, has given an explanation to why the names of three dead Nigerians were in the list of appointees for boards of various Federal government parastatals that was released yesterday December 29th.
The controversial list had three dead Nigerians including Senator Francis Okpozo, who died in December 2016.
In a telephone interview with Premiumtimes, Garba Shehu, said the list of the appointees ”has a history”.
According to him, shortly after President Buhari came into to office, he requested all state chapters of APC to submit names of 50 party members to be considered for board appointment. Garba said when the names from the various party chairmen was forwarded to president Buhari, the different state governors protested, saying they were not carried along.
To please the state governors, President Buhari immediately constituted a committee under the leadership of vice president Yemi Osinbajo, to review and reflect the interest of the governors. The report from the Osinbajo-led committee was however not immediately implemented because President Buhari took ill and was out of the country for a while.
He Said ;
“The president’s trips for medical attention slowed down completion of the process,” until when Mr Buhari decided to revisit the matter recently.
“The current SGF was only directed to complete that process by releasing the list which he apparently did without altering it,” .
Shehu added that the list contained some errors which would be corrected immediately. He said there is no need describing the list as scandalous.

The Presidency on Saturday told Nigerians to expect major facelift in power, rail and roads in 2018 based on the present administration’s investment in infrastructure.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.
Adesina listed some of the achievements of the present administration in the outgoing year and concluded that President Muhammadu Buhari has done well.
“President Buhari’s investment in infrastructure will see major facelifts across the country in power, rail and roads, which have been scheduled to come on stream in 2018,” Adesina said.
The Presidential spokesman said it was appropriate to, at the twilight of 2017 and at the threshold of a New Year, recount some key achievements of the administration in the outgoing year.
He said despite global economic challenges and initial outlook of slow, or unlikely, recovery, the Nigerian economy trumped predictions and witnessed some remarkable changes in 2017.
He listed the changes to include Nigeria’s exit from what he called the worst recession in decades and a gradual stabilisation of the naira.
“In our review of the economy based on facts and figures from the National Bureau of Statistics, we are pleased to note that the economy has been on the path of steady growth since the second quarter, after contracting for five consecutive quarters.
“President Muhammadu Buhari is hopeful that the exit from recession, stabilisation of the naira and robust harvest in the agricultural sector will continue to impact on the livelihood of Nigerians,” he said.
Adesina noted that multilateral institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have already projected higher growth for the economy in 2018.
He said the government was hopeful that the gains of 2017 in agriculture would be further improved.
He added, “The agricultural sector posted consistent growth levels throughout the recession, leading other sectors into positive growth rates.
“Accordingly, Nigeria saw bumper food harvests, especially in rice, whose local production continues to rise significantly with states like Ebonyi, Kebbi and Kano leading the pack, while Ogun joined the loop by the end of 2017.
“The price of a 50kg bag of rice – a staple in our country – has fallen by about 30 per cent since the beginning of 2017, as local production continues to rise. The price will keep falling, as production remains consistent and rises.
“The Food and Agriculture Organisation said the number of Nigerians facing food insecurity in the northeast dropped by half this year.”
Adesina said against all odds, 2017 has turned out the year of Nigeria’s agriculture revolution, embodied by the successes of the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative and the Anchor Borrowers Programme.
He said more than a dozen moribund fertilizer blending plants were revived under the PFI in 2017.
He added that inflation rate fell for 10 consecutive months in 2017, February to November, with the Central Bank of Nigeria projecting that it is likely going to drop to single digit by 2018.
The presidential spokesman added, “The Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme rolled out across the states and currently 5.2 million primary school children in 28,249 schools in 19 states are being fed daily, while 200,000 unemployed graduates were enlisted into the N-power Job Scheme.
The Ogun State Police Command on Thursday arrested one Andrew Koku for allegedly killing his six-month-old baby, Precious Koku.
The father of one confessed that he killed the baby because he was afraid that his wife was about to leave him for another man.
The suspect was arrested following a complaint from mother of the baby, Omowumi Teleda to the Adigbe Police Division.
She told Police she went out briefly to see the first child she had with her ex-husband, leaving the six-month-old baby behind when the incident happened.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confiming the incident, said Precious’ mother explained that the baby was hale and hearty when she left home, adding that she was surprised that that the baby had died when she returned.
The PPRO said, “The development made her to suspect her husband, who happened to be the only person with the baby.
“Consequent upon her complaint, the Divisional Police Officer, Adigbe division, Sunday Oladipo, detailed detectives to the scene and the suspect was arrested on December 24.”
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, but claimed that he killed the baby because he suspected that his wife wanted to leave him for the ex-husband, adding that if such happened, he would not be able to take care of the baby.”
PPRO Oyeyemi explained that the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed that the case be transferred to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

Either Buhari didn't vet the suitability of his own appointees or he didn't make the relevant appointments himself. Any way you slice the appointment of deceased persons, President Buhari is grossly incompetent.
And this is the least worrisome of this govt's misadventures.
President Buhari always give us reasons to believe that he has not yet recovered from his sickness. Why do you have to appoint someone that is dead to office? So many crazy things happening in Nigeria.

US born Nigerian rapper, Olusegun Olowokere better known by his stage name, Iceberg Slim, says he is not bothered if people think his girlfriend, Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim, is older or richer than him.
In an interview with Punch, Iceberg said the opinion of other people on their relationship does not matter.
He said ;
“We are actually the same age and she is not taller than me, except when she wears shoes with high heels. I don’t care if people think she is older than me or she has more money. A relationship is shared between the two people involved in it so if anybody has anything to say about our relationship, they should feel free, but it does not faze us. I mean, even Jesus Christ was criticised, so who are we? Anybody can say anything about us because, at the end of the day, everybody has freedom of speech. Whatever they say does not faze us because we know what we saw in each other.”
On how they met and started a relationship, Iceberg Slim revealed;
“I met Juliet Ibrahim in Durban, South Africa about a year and a half ago. We exchanged contacts and became friends. Our friendship later grew into an amorous affair and at the end of the day, we just became a happy couple. The fact that we did not make our relationship a secret by posting our loved-up pictures online is because we are being ourselves. We chose not to follow the African mentality that you must keep your relationship secret because of the society or media. We are enjoying ourselves and getting to know each other as a couple. There is no reason why I should hide her; she is celebrating me because I love her and I am doing the same as well. This is not something we should hide.”

His action of course, caused mixed reactions on social media, with many people airing their displeasure over the naming of the snake after a popular on-air personality and author.
Although, in a recent chat with Saturday Beats, the popular socialite explained why he named the python, Toke Makinwa,
“I named my pet snake Toke Makinwa because every Toke Makinwa is a snake. I named my pet python Toke Makinwa because I believe that she is not just a snake, but a huge snake – a python. And this is based on some things she talks about and writes on. There is a lot of cunningness and sneakiness to her.
“She is not your normal lady and it is time to let people know. Some people attacked me that why would I name my snake after her but the truth is that the name is patented and she does not have the right to the name. She is not the only Toke Makinwa in the world; there are so many of them. She might be the more popular one but right now, my pet python is even more popular than her.
“The truth is that we did not have any issue before I named the snake Toke Makinwa. She is my very good friend and I have seen her on some occasions. She understands that this is pure entertainment and as entertainers, we could diss ourselves in public but because we are entertainers, we know that when we are behind closed doors, we would talk to each other and settle any issue.
“We would see ourselves and say something like, ‘Mike that was a nice one.’ That is the beauty of the maturity entertainers have. We can do whatever we like in public, but behind closed doors, we know it is just for the show.
I met her once after the news broke that I named my python Toke Makinwa and the reception I got from her was nice. She just said, ‘Hey Mike, you want them to hear our voice in Lagos State.’ And I told her that it is what we are in the business for. I even plan to have a ‘meet, greet and take a picture with Toke’ I would take my python out and people would have the opportunity of taking a picture with her (sic).”
He shared his reason for acquiring a python as a pet in the first place instead of a dog or a cat like some other people would have opted for.
“I think that a lot of people do not understand the python. In our culture, we were taught that snakes are poisonous and dangerous but in the snake family, python is the only snake that has no venom, it is not poisonous. This is something I would like to educate people about. With the level of education in the country, we are still ignorant about certain things.
“I take a bath with the snake because it is my pet. I am sure a person is allowed to do whatever he likes with his pet. I take showers regularly with my pet; we eat together and go out together. It is my pet and I should not treat it lesser than I would do my pet puppy or cat. I feel like if I do that, I am discriminating against it (sic),” he said.
However, when Saturday Beats reached out to Toke Makinwa for her view on the issue, the OAP said she was about to begin a seminar and asked Saturday Beats to call back.
After about an hour, Saturday Beats reached out to her but she did not pick her calls neither did she reply the text message sent to her.
