Wole and Folake Soyinka’s son, Oretunlewa got married to his sweetheart, Nneka Ekechukwu in the United States.
A selected group of close friends and relatives were present at the wedding.
Ore and Nneka were born and raised in the United states and they’ve been dating for more than 8 years since they both graduated from High School.
The bride’s parents Dr. Peter and Angela Ekechukwu who are from Mbaise area of Imo state are said to have formed a deep friendship with the Soyinkas as a result of the relationship of their children.
According to their website, Oretunlewa went to High School in California then attended Stanford University for his undergraduate studies. From there, he went to Harvard University for his pre-med. He is now rounding up his medical degree at Duke University, Durham North Carolina. Nneka was born and raised in South Carolina and attended high school there where she ran track for the state. She studied Information Systems at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana and upon graduation was recruited by Deloitte in Chicago, she later moved on to work at the Coca Cola Headquarters in Atlanta.
Both are children of professors who have distinguished themselves by getting their post High school education on scholarship. Their website states that they met at a programme for gifted students in the summer before their last year of High School.
The bride’s attires were said to have been designed by Moofa Designs while Yomi Casual has been busy for months designing the outfits for the groom and his groomsmen.
The 12th edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) was held on Saturday at the Symphony Space Center in New York.
It was indeed a night of entertainment and reward for the big achievers in the Nigerian entertainment industry including music, film, TV, Radio and so many other categories.
High-flying Davido took home two awards for Hottest Single of the Year (“IF“) and Afropop Male Act of the Year. His protege, Mayorkun also took home an award for Best New Act. Street king Olamide took home the award for Album of The Year (“The Glory“).
In the Film/TV category, Ramsey Noauh took home the Best Actor for his role in “’76” while Funke Akindele took home the award for Best Actress for her role in “A Trip to Jamaica”

Delectable Actress Meghan Markle will be the first American to marry a British royal since the marriage of Wallis Simpson to King Edward VIII, a union so controversial that he was forced to give up the throne in December 1936 to go through with it.
In their first joint interview since they announced their engagement today, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spoke to BBC moments ago and they revealed how the engagement proposal happened.
According to them, it was a “cosy night” at their shared cottage on the Kensington Palace “I think I managed to catch her by surprise,” the prince said. “It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got down on one knee” Markle added.

The two revealed that they started dating in July after they were set up on a “blind date” by a female friend. “I’d never watched ‘Suits,’” Harry said of his thoughts before that first date. “I’d never heard of Meghan before.”
Markle said she only had a distant familiarity with the royals at the time, and had just one question before the date: “Is he nice?”
They said they hit it off and really got to know each other a few months later, when Harry invited Markle to visit Botswana with him. “We camped out with each other under the stars,” Harry said.
Markle said the long-distance courtship was a challenge, as was the sudden media spotlight that came with publicly dating a prince. She says she tried to avoid the headlines, including criticism over her ethnicity.
“It’s a shame that that is the climate in this world, to focus that much on that. At the end of the day I’m really just proud of who I am and where I come from” Markle said.

A female lawyer, Yewande Oyediran was today found guilty for stabbing her husband to death at their Ibadan home.
Yewande, a former staff of the Department of Public Prosecution in the Oyo State Ministry of Justice, was accused of killing her husband with a knife after a disagreement on February 2, 2016, at their residence in Akobo area of Ibadan.
She has now been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for manslaughter at the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan, on Monday. She was arrested and arraigned in court, but she pleaded not guilty to the murder charge preferred against her.
According to Punch, the court said the convict was charged on a murder count and evidence pointed to Yewande as the killer of her husband; but witnesses presented by the defence counsel failed to establish the intent behind the killing.
The court held that going by the relationship between Yewande and her husband as husband and wife (at the time of the husband’s death), the killing was done without intent.
The couple had no child together. The judge said that with the evidence before the court, the convict and her late husband had frequently engaged in domestic violence.
He also adjudged the evidence of the couple’s landlord and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Akinpelu, as credible. The landlord and his wife had told the court that they saw the convict holding a knife, while the deceased was in a pool of blood.
“Having seen the defendant holding a knife and the defendant had earlier confirmed that she had earlier stabbed her husband with a pair of scissors a day before, I hold that it was the defendant that stabbed the deceased,’’ said the judge.
Abimbola also said that he took into consideration the autopsy report of Prof. Abideen Oluwashola, a consultant from the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
“According to the autopsy report, the deceased died as a result of shock from a deep wound caused by a sharp object,’’ Abimbola said.
The court said the evidence of the convict could not be relied upon, because her statement with the Police was different from her statement before the court.
Earlier, the defence counsel, Mr. Leye Adepoju, had, on the basis that his client was a first time offender, prayed the court to be lenient with the term of the sentence.
He added that imprisonment was not to ruin, but to reform.
“If it is too long, it would ruin the life and as well jeopardise the job of the defendant, being a legal practitioner,” he said.
The prosecution counsel, Mr. Sanya Akinyele, however, said he was leaving the issue of the sentencing to the discretion of the court.
In his judgment, Justice Abimbola convicted Yewande of manslaughter. Her sentence was to start running since the day of her arrest, the judge said.
The day of judgement was initially slated for November 24, 2017, but the judge moved the day to November 27, 2017 because of other engagements at the Nigerian Judicial Commission.

The family of Bilyaminu Bello, the son of ex-PDP chairman, Haliru Bello, who was recently stabbed to death by his wife, Maryam Sanda, have finally broken their silence on the very sad incident that occured on Sunday, November 19th.
A brother of the deceased who spoke to the Nation, said the family is still in shock over the unfortunate incident.
The brother who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they are waiting on the law enforcement agencies to ensure that justice prevails in this matter. The brother of the deceased spoke at a night of tribute held in honor of the deceased in Abuja last Thursday.
“So far, the family is grieving. Maryam’s family have come to pay their condolence. The mother has come but what is more painful is the fact that Maryam does not look remorseful for what she did at all. I just pray one day, she finds it in her heart to honestly say what it is that made her do what she did.
As a family, we are looking at the authority to do what is right, to let justice prevail. This is an example to others. The way this case is treated will determine how we move forward…Bilyamin was not just my older brother but best friend.” he said
A friend of the deceased, Hakeem Ali, who also spoke at the night of tribute, said Bilyaminu was a prisoner in his matrmonial home. He denied allegations that Bilyaminu was a serial cheater.
‘My friend was being held a prisoner in his own home. He couldn’t leave the house in the sense that it was an ongoing thing; the abuse went on for a while. For me there is a difference between love and when somebody is being obsessive. People tend not to understand the difference between love and obsession.
It wasn’t the best marriage and I believe either of them could have just walked away. It’s easier to sit down in that sorrow and think you can change things, or that if I can’t have him, no one will. I don’t consider it love. I can’t speak on his behalf. I can’t speak on his personal issue, he is a good friend and he is gone.
He was that one guy that the minute we step out, we will be like, it is time for you to go home, your wife is about to call, after hanging out for as little as an hour or even 30 minutes. Even in the afternoon because she always calls.
So we formed the habit of going to see him at home. The situation with the law, there are a lot of speculations right now on social media but if Nigeria should excuse people for murder just because they have a child, then if I am a murderer, then I will keep on having babies every week, that is not an excuse, for me.
If somebody has committed a murder, either intentionally or by mistake, she should not be allowed to even see her baby because you don’t even know her state of mind. I don’t understand the system. A conversation has to begin on domestic violence against men as well because it’s becoming recurrent.
If it is a case of murder by mistake then there is a price to pay of which a family can forgive but only God gives life and only God can take it. So, if you take a life, then your life should be taken. It is that simple. If the evidence shows it is a murder, then there is no excuse. It should be a case of an eye for an eye. It is that simple.”
Another friend of the deceased, Jemila Shehu, who was also at the tribute night, suggested that Maryam might have bipolar disorder or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD
”I have no idea. I was not in her mind. I don’t know what she was thinking. All I know is that they both loved each other. There was love there, only God knows. It beats my imagination and I don’t want to think about it or give any excuse as a Muslim.
He is gone but I don’t know what she was thinking. I don’t know what to think about her. For me, she should be punished. She committed murder. So, she should serve the punishment fully. This happened to someone that was loved by a lot of people. He was kind, quiet and people knew them to be in love.
So, it beats everybody’s imagination. Domestic violence should be treated. People should relax, love is not by force. Obsession is a disease.
There are a lot of people in Nigeria that are sick but people don’t know because you think that if you go to the therapist, they look down on you or think you are crazy but there are a lot of PTSD, bipolar patients and they live among us. Maybe she flipped, maybe it was a psychotic break or maybe she planned it.”

A self-acclaimed human rights activist, has urged Nigerian men to put their stubborn wives in oppressive conditions and also to beat them into submission.
Identified on Facebook as Solomon Ogbogboyibo, He took to the platform to advise men to ensure they subdue their wives because if women are given freedom they will abuse it.
“Wives should be beaten to submission if necessary. Overindulgence of the womenfolk leads to wives slapping or stabbing husbands. #Abomination,” he wrote.
He was of course called out for his post, and he stood his grounds…. He posted the below comment, defending his initial post;
“Women need to be kept in oppressive conditions because when you give them freedom they consistently abuse it. #Give them freedom and throw away their submission,” he wrote.

A lady on Twitter with the name, Caramella Mou has been thrown on the hot seat for tweeting about preaching and converting a Muslim uber driver to Christ.
People are of the opinion that why did she have to convert him when he already had a religion ? – someone said, it was as though she converted him to serve another God.
Some other Muslims gave the statement of how there really is Jesus in the Quran… but as a prophet and not as a God. This caused a stir among them as they queried Caramella over her actions.

A Twitter user has taken to the platform to alleged that Nigerians are involved in the auctioning of migrants off as slaves in Libya.
News about “slave markets” (in North Africa, particularly Libya) where Nigerians and other Africans are being sold for $400 or less have been making the rounds after a CNN report was published.
The Twitter user, on his timeline, shared a thread on a friend who attempted crossing from Africa to Europe but was sold off as a slave instead.
The friend eventually found his way back to Nigeria, he wrote, but not before he was sold twice, raped, beaten and abused.

He became a trending topic after photos of his trend setting ‘agbada’ went viral online, with so many people lauding the design and also replicating it.
The media personality yet again has social media talking about him again in course of BAAD 2017 after he, who was the anchor of their white wedding in Cape Twon, made a slip in calling Adesua, ‘Mrs Etomi’ instead of ‘Mrs Wellington’.

The Miss Universe 2017 pageant was held on Sunday, November the 26th, in Las Vegas where ninety-two women from around the world competed for the crown.
The host for the pageant again was Steve Harvey, who made several jokes about his 2015 mistake, when he pronounced the wrong person as that year’s winner.
The top 5 contestants selected after the evening gown portion, were Miss South Africa, Venezuela, Thailand, Jamaica and Colombia.
Advancing to the top 3 were Miss Jamaica, Colombia and South Africa. After answering one question each, Jamaica’s Davina Bennett was made the third runner up, Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez was the second runner-up, while Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters emerged as Miss Universe 2017!
Nel-Peters was a favorite throughout the night, she described how she survived a carjacking by fighting back against her attacker and used that terrifying experience to help other women, and spoke out about issues such as equal pay.
A first class Physics Electronics graduate, who had been jobless for two years after she finished from Ajayi Crowther University, has finally been offered employment after Premium Times published a report on her.
Odufuwa Sola, 22, not only graduated with a first class but was the best graduating student in the university for that year with a 4.83 G.P.A. She had the honour of delivering a valedictory speech in the school.
However, after graduating, she searched for a job for years and when that wasn’t forthcoming, she started learning tailoring at Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
In October, Sola took to Twitter to beg people to id her in finding a job. Premium Times then published a story on her and it got the attention of Adamu Garba, the CEO of IPI Solution Ltd, an IT firm with offices in Lagos and Abuja.
Garba reached out to Ms. Sola via Twitter and within days she was offered an employment in project development and IT solutions after a job interview. She has also been enrolled in a mentorship scheme by the company. The young lady is trying to settle down on her new job and a new life in Lagos.
Speaking about the new job, Ms, Sola said:
“It’s actually a different field from what I learnt in school. It’s all about programming. The company has done well by providing me with a new laptop, eBooks, and videos to aid my transition into the IT world. And I have colleagues around me who are always willing and ready to help. It’s challenging but I know with time I will adjust.”
Ms. Sola said she loves her new job and that the pay was good for a start. She thanked Premium Times for doing a story on her and also thanked her new boss, Mr. Garba, for giving her the opportunity to work in the IT company.

Years ago, I was in jss1 reading everything that came my way and throwing questions to any adult that comes my way not caring about what he or she felt.
As a child, the first adults you look up to are your parents. You ask them anything by anytime you want.
Early morning one day before I was leaving for school I went to the kitchen where my parents were talking and asked them what a condom was.
That was the first time I shut adults up in my life.
I didn’t know what a condom was but by their reaction of undiluted silence I felt I had committed a sacrilege. They didn’t talk to me. Until this day.
I left them and used a dictionary.
That afternoon in class, my home economics teacher was teaching puberty and all that was involved.
The topic fascinated me in a way that I couldn’t wait to go home and ask my parents questions about the wonders human bodies can do.
I got home excited and asked my dad what menstruation and masturbation meant. In his face I saw a tug of war going on. Disgust and complacency taking over a major part of it.
I was a smart kid. I immediately switched the question to something that will make him proud of me. I asked him about something in the Bible. I can’t remember exactly what that was.
But, I was stunned that a face that had a not-so-pleasant look had lightened up within seconds because of a Bible question.
I remember this almost every other day and shake my head.
Our African parents are just a bunch of something I don’t want to describe. It irks me that something as simple as a penis and a vagina can be given a crown of euphemism.
I went to school to argue that there was nothing like a penis. I argued that it was pee-wee.
Why?
My parents thought that private parts were very special things that we should be shy about and talk about in hushed tones.
Note: this is not a party to bash my parents. No! This is a party to let new father’s and mothers know that they should not walk the paths our parents walked.

Our private parts aren’t as special as our brains. But, our parents made these things look as big deals and when they talk to us about it you see on their faces dread and beads of sweats as if they are solving equations older than them.
We all have our fair share of this madness.
Sometimes I feel that the reason our politicians are stupid is because they were raised by mother’s who were told that if a mans shoulder brushed against their own they will be instantly pregnant.
I will soon get married and the question I asked my parents haven’t been answered.
My father died years ago and he didn’t answer my question.
Because of the shame tied to our private parts you see kids ashamed to tell you what the house help did to them while you were at work.
What the uncle downstairs did when he came to charge his phone.
What the aunty upstairs did when she called your son up to give him ice-cream.
You see that something as serious as molestation goes on and you dont know.
Because you’re hiding trivial things from your children.
Look at me who they were hiding things from.
What don’t I know now?? Just what?
So, what was the point of hiding?
In all you teach your children, shame shouldn’t make the list!!!
My mother will read this post and call me inside her room this night and we will sit before each other while I tell her all I have been through.

At Ake festival last week, people were asked at what age they will tell their daughters about sex.
As expected, a woman said “When she is ready for marriage”
I shrugged and said in my heart “After she must have aborted like four or five children”
You see; I don’t have strength to keep up with playing hide and seek with my children
I will tell them what they should know at 10 years old!
That’s if I don’t reduce it to 7.
The world is moving real quick
I was speaking to her last night and she told me that in the labor ward during the day time, a girl of fifteen years had given birth only for them to find out she has hepatitis b.
I sighed.
I wouldnt be surprised to hear that her parents are pastors and all.
Telling their kid about things as vital as sex could be a sin.

What brought me to mother earth is what they hide.
Many girls have sat on their stories on molestation till they get married and have their own daughters.
You will see that they go on and train their daughters like they were trained.
With fear!
They will tell you it is our culture. That we are not whites.

The same culture that endorsed killing of twins.
The same culture that turned women to slaves of lowlifes who masqueraded as men.
The same culture that says that male children are better than female children.
They will say religion.
That religion doesn’t endorse sex education.
Okay. Maybe it endorses harms that are aftermaths of ignorance that could be stopped by knowledge!
In fact, argue with me not with culture and religion but with common sense!
To all of you with kids and planing to have kids, the ball is in your court.
But, the society which teaches your children faster has your balls in its palms.

Controversial OAP Daddy Freeze, has been challenged to a spiritual contest at National Stadium Abuja by Pastor Humble Okoro.
Well, trouble looms for the controversial Cool FM OAP as this well-known Niger Delta-based clergy draws a power challenge event with him.
In an already online trending invite, the clergy man who shared a description picture of the event, stated that, “this is not a debate, but a power clash meeting that will prove to Nigerians how Daddy freeze is demonized which will herald to his ostracism. Last April, I confirmed and certified him being possessed and tormented by 52 destiny destroying demons”.
According to multiple reports, this is not the first time Pastor Humble Okoro has put up a spiritual challenge with Daddy freeze which the later never showed up.
When the Pastor was asked of his expectation as regards to honoring of his invitation by Daddy freeze, he stated that: “you would remember this is not the first time I had sort to deliver Daddy freeze through this medium of challenge, but regrettably, he evicted. As I am speaking now, our workers are on plans to reach the relevant authorities as regards to having the event hosted in National Stadium Abuja, if only Freeze will pick a date. But if I am allowed to choose, December 25th serves a better date”.
