An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 55-year-old man, Bashiru Adeyanju, in prison custody for raping his 17-year-old daughter (names withheld).

Adeyanju, a resident of Irona Quarters in Ado-Ekiti timber worker, was arrested on 11th September and confessed to raping the girl nine times for money ritual.

He claimed that he committed the crime with two others who were native doctors, and wondered why the police failed to arraign his accomplices in court.

Based on the instructions of the witchdoctors, he confessed that he wiped the private part of her daughter with a white handkerchief in order for him to become wealthy.

The case was initially handled by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, before it was taken over by the Okesa Police Station and finally referred to the State Police Headquarters.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that Adeyanju violated Section 31(2) of the Ekiti State Child Rights Law which was committed within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District.

Ikebuilo applied for an adjournment for issuance of legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The plea of the accused was not taken as his counsel to the accused person, Mr. Simon Ojo, also pleaded for a date of adjournment from the court pending the issuance of legal advice.

Before the case was adjourned, Adeyanju told the magistrate: “We are three in this case but I am surprised that I am the only one police is charging to court.”

But the magistrate replied: “Don’t worry, others will soon be brought to court.”

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Dolapo Akosile, remanded Adeyanju, in prison custody pending the issuance of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution(DPP). She adjourned the case to 12th October for mention.

Speaking with our reporter before the commencement of the sitting, Adeyanju said the victim’s mother was his third wife while the victim was his sixth child.

According to him, his five other children are living with their mothers in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.

The accused revealed that he drove the victim’s brother from home to have unrestrained access to the victim. Adeyanju said: “I slept with my daughter in order to become wealthy and I used to wipe her private part with a white handkerchief each time I did it.

“I slept with her nine times and the herbalists who did the charm for me has bolted away. I drove my male child away from home in order to have my way. “I don’t mind going to jail for what I have done because I wanted to become rich and I was told by the herbalists that I could only become rich if I slept with my daughter.”

A Muslim woman used an Islamic robe to save a burning Indian man’s life when he caught fire – by using it to put out the flames.

Jawaher Saif Al Kumaiti was driving home after visiting a friend in hospital when she saw two trucks burst into flames – and heard the victim shouting for someone to save him.

Major Tariq Mohamed Al Sharhan, head of the ambulance and rescue section at the city’s police department, later confirmed both drivers had suffered 40% to 50% burns to their bodies and had been transferred to a specialist hospital.

Shockingly, she said there were other people at the scene in Ras al-Khaimah, before she got there, but they did not help and simply stared at the man as flames burnt his body. Police in the city have confirmed Jawaher will be rewarded for her bravery.

A lion has killed a man identified as Hamzat Oyekunle at Agodi zoo gardens, Ibadan. Following the killing, the state government has announced the immediate closure of the Zoo.

The government said this decision is based on the report received from the company managing the Zoo, AM & C, that one of the lions at the Zoo had accidentally attacked one of the attendants, Mr. Hamzat Oyekunle popularly known as Baba Olorunwa, who later died from injuries sustained from the incident.

Meanwhile, the lions have been evacuated pending further investigations. The government decision was contained in a statement at the weekend by the Executive Secretary, Bureau of Investment Promotion (BIP), Mr. Yinka Fatoki who expressed shock at the unfortunate incident.

He said that the incident is particularly surprising and sad as the said Mr. Oyekunle had fed the lion for over five years and was known to have had a very good relationship with all the animals in the zoo. Meanwhile, government representatives have visited the family to commiserate with them over the demise of Mr. Oyekunle.

The mother of murdered Caleb university undergraduate has opened upon the relationship between her late son and his baby mama.

Queen Akinbule, a businesswoman and mother of eight revealed Morrison was her third son and sixth child.

She also said the 20 year old was going to marry his babymama, equally 20.

For how long have you known your late son’s baby mama?

I knew her last year after I found out she was pregnant for my son. My grandson is now a year and six months.

Did you approve of their relationship?

I accepted her after I found out she was pregnant. In fact, I took her as my child. When I learned that she needed some money to pay for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, I willingly gave her money. Prior to that, I learned she was at home for almost three years. I also enrolled her at a special tutorial centre. I paid N35, 000 for that. I was happy when I heard she passed the UTME as her cut-off mark was 260. She finally gained admission to the University of Lagos to study Theatre Arts.

How would you describe their relationship?

Their relationship was going smoothly prior to his death. My son loved her very much. He had plans to marry her.

What could have made her kill your son?

I don’t know what would have made her kill my son.

Does she live in your house?

No, she only comes over to my house whenever my son is on holiday.

Tell us all that transpired on the day your son died.

I was at home while my son was in his room. She sneaked into our house that night. I didn’t know she was in my house. I was asleep. It happened at night around 10 pm.

One of my grandsons went to Morrison’s room to watch a movie. When he got there, he met Morrison on the ground. He tapped him several times but he didn’t move. He then called one of his aunts who also tapped Morrison but he didn’t wake up. Immediately, she rushed into my room and told me Morrison was lying on the ground.

When I got there, I met him on the ground. His head was on the bed while the rest of his body was on the ground. His baby mama was seated on a bed staring at us. I carried his lifeless body and began to beat his body but he didn’t move. I bit a part of his body with my teeth but he still didn’t move. As I lifted him, I saw a cloth tied round his neck. As we were about to lift him to rush him to a hospital, his baby mama then shouted, ‘Morrison! Morrison!’

How was her expression while you were trying to wake him?

She wasn’t crying. She wore expressionless face.

Have you met her parents before?

Yes, they also stay at Gbagada.

Reports indicated that your son had a fight with his baby mama some minutes before she killed him.

They didn’t have a fight. I was at home, I didn’t hear any noise. If they had a fight, we all would have heard. There is a room and parlour opposite Morrison’s room. One of us would have heard a noise

If you were to speak to your son’s baby mama face-to-face, what would you tell her?

I will tell her that God will judge her for her action. I know that my son really loved her.

How did her parents react to their child’s act?

In fact, as I speak, her parents have not come to see me. The only time her father called me on the phone was when she was taken to Panti. He begged me to forgive his daughter. Since then, he hasn’t called again.

Former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu has said leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu is currently in London.

Kalu revealed this in an interview he granted Sunday Punch, adding that he does not know about the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu’s parents.

He said contrary to what has been fed to the public so far, the military did not take Kanu and his parents away.

Orji Uzor Kalu told Sunday Punch:

“Kanu was not taken away by the military. Kanu went to Malaysia from where he travelled to the United Kingdom. Nnamdi Kanu is in London right now as we speak.

“He was not arrested by anybody. He left the country on his own.

One of his relations has spoken to me and explained everything because I wanted to see him and talk to him wherever he was and see how I could meet some Federal Government officials on his issue.

“I also wanted to see ways of talking to the President about him, and find common ground but his family told me that he has left the country, unless they are lying to me.

“I believe, whether he had left the country or not, he is not with the military because I asked the Commander of the 14 Brigade, Brigadier General A.K Ibrahim, who is a very fine and good soldier, well educated and dedicated, and he told me that they don’t know his whereabouts and I am sure, the Department of State Services have the same information.

“I also visited the Commissioner of Police and he said he didn’t know his whereabouts and that they are also looking for him.”

On the whereabouts of Kanu’s parents, Kalu told Sunday Punch:

“I don’t know.

“I visited them in December last year and I was not impressed with the discussion I had with the father and the mother because I expected them to have acted better.

“Since then, I have not visited them.

“I feel that they have not impressed me because they ignored my advice to them to talk to their son on the need to stay at home and avoid public outings. I said his people can continue to carry their flags around but that they should not disturb anybody again.

“They have a right to express themselves but that such rights should be within the limits of our constitution.

They have the right to carry Biafran flags but they should do so within the limits of the constitution. Once your activities are within the limits of the law, you are in order.

“You cannot carry Biafra flags and be stopping vehicles and smashing their windscreens.

“You cannot carry Biafra (flags) and be raping young girls, you also cannot carry Biafra (flags) and be assembling young men every day.

“These are people who have no job and after doing that, they will go and engage in kidnapping or they will go and do armed robbery while some will go and do other things to make money.

“Hunger is a very terrible thing.

“The traders in the market have warned them to stop the nonsense they are doing. Why should you be extorting money from people in the name of Biafra agitation?

“They are extorting money from people in the market against their will.

“If the federal and state governments continue to watch and allow all these things to continue, there will be chaos in the state.

If Kanu had not proved stubborn but listened to advice and kept to the rules of the court, we won’t be where we are now.”

According to multiple reports, a man was said to have allegedly battered his wife, after he found her in a beer parlour with her boyfriend.

According to a Facebook user who shared the story, the man had returned home to find his wife gone and his eight-month-old baby alone with the maid.

He went in search of his wife only to find her in a beer parlour with her boyfriend who resides outside the country. In anger, he beat her mercilessly while the boyfriend fled.

Others in the beer parlour stood watching and made no effort to stop the abuse.

According to multiple sources, there’s an ongoing protest in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital, after a trigger-happy policeman reportedly killed a young boy selling pure water along Okporo road, Port Harcourt.

The boy was reportedly shot by the policeman over environmental sanitation in the area.

Reports have it that an angry mob are currently protesting in the area, and they are threatening to burn down Okporo Police Station.

An eye witness who spoke to Asempa FM, a radio station in Accra did indicate that an argument on Chelsea defender David Luiz was what got Deco stubbed.

Deco made some remarks to three fans reportedly opposing Chelsea at the time which did not go down well with the three. These remarks were in response to the three critiquing the performance of David Luiz on the night.

The three fans reportedly went out only to come back with a jack knife and clubs to attack Deco. After Deco was stabbed, he was rushed to the Korle-Bu teaching hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A 55-year old woman identified as Josephine Igbineweka has been killed by her last child, Caleb Obasogie.

Caleb, aged 22, allegedly killed his mother because she refused to give him money.

The killing occurred around 8am at their residence at 31A, Iyamu Street, off Textile Mill Road, Benin City.

Witnesses said Caleb locked his mother in a room and stabbed her repeatedly with broken bottle until her intestines ripped out.

He reportedly dangled the intestines and his mother’s womb before neighbours before they could rush in to rescue her.

Neighbours said the deceased passed the night at a neighbour’s house because her son locked her out for not giving him the money he demanded from her.

Caleb is a final year student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) while his late mother was a beer parlour operator in Benin.

Spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, DSP Moses Nkombe, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the suspect has been arrested by the police.
