Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has urged critics of the Federal Government yam export policy to grow the commodity.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday, Ogbeh dismissed the criticisms of the policy, saying that the effort was in the best interest of the nation’s economy.

He said the energies being dissipated by critics in condemning the initiative could be better used to produce yam, a staple in most parts of the country.

The minister allayed the fears of some Nigerians who believed that the policy would lead to shortage of yam in the country.

According to him, there is currently an overabundance in yam production in the domestic market.

“I have seen attacks on the social media. There are questions all over as to why we are exporting yam when Nigerians are said to be hungry.

“With all due respect, Nigeria accounts for 61 percent of the world output of yam. We have 60 varieties of yam in this country.

“In fact, 30 percent of the yams we produce get rotten because we don’t have facilities to preserve them.

“Ghana is a famous country for exportation of the commodity, but most of the yam they export is from us.

“There has never been shortage of yam in the country. Prices might be high toward the end of the season, but new yam is already in the market.

“Why are you so cowardly? Why lay back by not trying anything because of some sentimental reasons that might be raised?”

Critics of the policy believe that investment in local processing of yams into finished products is of more economic benefit to the country than exporting the commodity.

But the minister dismissed this suggestion, arguing that export made more economic sense than processing.

“Analysts are saying that we are supposed to add more value to yam production in order to earn more money, fantastic view.

“But they forget to tell us how much a tuber of yam costs in the USA. Three kilogrammes cost $15, which is equivalent to about N5, 000.

“In London, a carton of yam, this contains three tubers, costs £30, bringing the average cost per tuber to £10.

“At that price, it is more sensible to export to earn more money for our economy.

“Economy is 90 percent common sense. You can’t keep on buying until you are broke. What are you selling?”

To further buttress his point, the minister said foreign trade partners came to complain when Nigeria limited its food imports.

“They complained that we were not buying stock fish from them. I asked them if they were buying anything from us. Let us do some selling as well too.

“Nigerians should stop the sarcasm and negativity in trying to rubbish every government policy. If Ghana can export yam, Nigeria too can.”

An unidentified woman’s body has been found on top of a bridge in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, this morning.

According to Christian Onwugbolu, the middle aged lady, was killed and dumped on the bridge along the expressway.

He wrote:

Adeleke’s Victory: Fani-Kayode Humiliates Aregbesola, Demands Resignation

Following the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last Saturday’s Osun West Senatorial District’s Bye-election, the eloquent chieftain of PDP, Chief Fani-Kayode has now gained words over the Executive Governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola hence, demands resignation from the latter.

Governor Aregbesola, who had earlier boasted to resign as the governor of Osun state if the opposition party, All Progressive’s Congress, APC, wins the bye-election has now been reminded by Fani-Kayode to keep to his words and quit heading the affairs of the Omoluabi state.

Fani-Kayode however did not stop at that but took a step ahead to mock the long-bearded Governor via his tweet saying: “Adeleke has won. Shave your beards and RESIGN”.

Recall, Governor Aregbesola earlier blasted the father of Davido, Deji Adeleke, of being mad on the occasion of his brother’s death, who was the Senator representing Osun West before hos death.

Ademola Adeleke, the brother of the deceased Senator won the election against APC’s candidate, Senator Mudashiru HUSSAIN, to secure the Senatorial seat left by Senator Isiak Adeleke.

3 Drown, 5 Declared Missing In India While Taking Selfies, Videos

While taking selfies and videos for social media, three men reportedly die and five remain missing after their boat capsized in a river in central India.

According to the Police, the accident occurred on Sunday evening when a group of 10 men, between 21 and 28 years, were out on a fishing boat on the Vena river near the city of Nagpur.

The Area police chief, Chandrashekhar Bahadure, said the boatman rescued two men and three bodies were fished out Monday afternoon.

Police said the national disaster response force personnel and divers were assisting in the rescue but it was unlikely there would be survivors.

He said:

“During initial investigations, we found that the group was busy taking videos and selfies on the boat that is suspected to have caused the tragedy,”
“Survivors say the boat lost balance and overturned when a number of men came to one side to pose for either selfies or videos.
“The men had also posted a video on Facebook minutes before the boat tipped over,”

According to new research, India has had the highest number of selfie-related deaths

A study by Carnegie Mellon University found that between March 2014 and September 2016, 60 per cent of the 127 “selfie deaths” across the world, occurred in India.

Recall, In 2016, police in Mumbai created 16 “no-selfie zones” after a university student fell into the sea and drowned while taking a photo of herself with her phone.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III while speaking at the closing ceremony of the 6th National Edition of the Quranic Recitation Competition expressed concern at how social media is diverting the attention of students in the country, especially girls. In his words;

‘There is a disturbing development where the attention of students is being diverted from their studies. This is through the use of various social media like Facebook, Twitter,Whatsapp, 2Go and Instagram, among others.

The rate at which girls are spending time on social network is worrisome and this poses imminent danger to our society’.

He continued: “girls are the nerve center of our moral and societal development and if they derail, the whole society will be in danger because they are our mothers and care givers.”

Abubakar advised parents to ensure that their daughters spend more time on meaningful things, like reciting the Holy Qur’an, “doing so will make them better mothers and care givers” he said.

Massive Flood in Suleja wipes out families

Torrential rain has led to a massive flood which caused the deaths of quite a number of people in Suleja, Niger State.
Seven members of a family of eight, which include two mothers and children, were reportedly killed in an incident on Sunday, July 9, 2017, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

In addition, various household belongings were destroyed due to the non-stop rain that has ravaged different parts of the country including Lagos.

A District Police Officer in Suleja’s Division “A” control, Mohammed Mohammed, was not able to give a specific number of casualties but he stated that his men were deployed to ensure the safety of people’s properties.

He said,

“The flood affected many people who built their houses along the river bank; many houses have been destroyed with unconfirmed number of deaths recorded.
“Police are providing security around the scene so that hoodlums will not cart away victims’ property especially those lying outside.”

NAN reported that Musliu Mohammed, 17, one of the victims who survived the flood was taken to the Suleja General Hospital, where he was placed on admission.

Lagos Flood: ‘Power Stations Are Out On The Island’ – EKEDC

In spite of the flood that erupted from the torrential downpour early Saturday, some power outlets have been reportedly damaged in the most expensive areas of Lagos state.
According to the Eko Electricity Distribution Comapny, the unsual flood wrecked havoc on the power equipment in Lekki, Ikoyi, Ijora, Victoria Island and some other parts of Lagos metropolis under its overage and this has left the residents of the mentioned in total blackout ever since.

In a statement singed by the company’s General Manager, Corporate Communications of EKEDC, Mr. Godwin Igbemudia, the affected residents were assured of power restoration as their staff members were already working rigorously to fix the power.

He said:

“Victoria Garden City, Waterfront, Maroko and Oniru injection stations are completely out. We need to look at the extent of the effect of the flood on our equipment.”

However, we are presently working round the clock to restore supply to our esteemed customers.”

EKEDC affirmed yesterday that the injection substations affected by the floods included the Lekki Transmission Station and those in Agungi, Lekki, Ademola and Anifowoshe.

Adding to this, the residents of Oniru Estate confirmed receiving phone text message from EKEDC to inform them of the situation at hand and the work in progress.

“I am not a big thief, I steal only generators” – 20 Year Old Jailed Convict Says

A 20-year old man, Abubakar Adamu, who uses his truck to pretend as a scavenger whereas it was a cover up to steal generators from their owners, has confessed that he is not a big thief because he only steal generators from the owners without causing any violence.

He was charged before Isolo Magistrate court, for stealing four generator sets he hid inside his truck in the incident which happened at Idowu Osifodunrin street in Ira-Akari estate in Isolo, Lagos where he was held and apprehended before he was handed over to the police.

At the Ira-Akari estate police division where he was taken, He admitted that he stole the generators and claimed that he used the truck to hide the stolen generators and cover it with scavengers he pick from houses.

He also revealed that he gain access to houses under the false pretense of picking scavengers and any generator the owner keeps outside, he will carry it and hide it inside the truck.

He was then charged to court with two count charge and he pleaded guilty.

The prosecutor, Oje Augbale, presented facts and asked the court to sentence him accordingly to serve as deterants to others who may want to commit similar offence.

The court found him guilty as charged and sentenced him four years imprisonment without option of fine.

However, the court also ruled the sentence will run concurrently which implied that He will be spending the next two years in prison custody.

While He was being taken to the prison he said if he comes back he will not steal again.

Nigerian Players Struck With Food Poisoning After Eating ‘Semo’ And ‘Egusi’ (Photos)

The Remo Stars Football Club players were struck by food poisoning prior to the top-flight match against the Anambra Warriors with 13 players hospitalized.

It was gathered that the players began complaining of stomach pain and tiredness, after their dinner which was a meal of ‘semo’ and ‘Egusi’.

The Sky Blue Blue stars team’s secretary, Michael Onikute, confirmed the incident, and claimed that the affected players, as well as club officials, are already receiving medical attention.

He said:

“It’s such a disastrous incident we have prepared well for the game against Ifeanyi Ubah,”
“The players were resting after their dinner which was a meal of semovita and egusi – only to get a call that they are in pain and we had to rush them to the Ikenne Health Centre.
“13 players were affected as well as the goalkeeper trainer and media officer. It is sad this is happening to us on the eve of a vital match against Ifeanyi Uba,”

Affected players were rushed down to Ikenne health center as the team doctor, Mr James, is currently treating some players ensuring they get fluids in other not to suffer from dehydration while others are being monitored to ensure they recover from this health casualty.

Meanwhile, the League Management Company have subsequently announced the indefinite postponement of the match following complaints from the home team.

Blue BRT Buses strike, Lagosians groan on Social media, stranded

The Blue BRT Buses are on Strike.. and this has affected a lot of commuters heading to their place of work this morning.

This Morning, Lagosians woke up to head to their places of work, only to be met with the news that BRT Buses are on strike.

There’s currently a massive crowd/queue at the Ikorodu Bus Station, Mile 12 Bus station, Ketu, Ojota, Fadeyi, Lekki etc… and even the Danfo Buses are not helping, as there are only few of them on the road, and the few on the road, have doubled their prices.

According to multiple reports, the BRT workers are on strike over non-payment of their salaries. More details soon

Here are a list of things that Husbands should do to make their relationship work : .

1. Sex : You should have sex with your wife at least 16 times a week and Oral sex 5 times a week. This is your duty as man. It is your responsibility. No excuses

2. You must not have passwords on your phone or any device. If passwords are necessary, your wife should have them all.

3. You must not let her food waste. A happy married man shouldn’t be seen eating outside only lunch at work is allowed.

4. Bring your wife breakfast in bed and bring back a gift from work everyday. Every single day. Even if it is fruits, a wig, a painting or flowers.

5. Prayer schedule. Fix a prayer & fasting routine once a month with your wife to tackle personal issues.

6. Even if she has a job. She deserves a weekly or monthly allowance of at least N100,000.

7. Men complain that their wives don’t look the same as when they first met. A lot of men have pot bellies too. Work on your physical appearance.

8. Listen to her. No matter how tired or busy you are. Listen to her and gossip with her.

If you don’t appreciate your wife. She may seek appreciation elsewhere. It’s a full time job to be a good wife. Make it a full time job to be a good husband.

Controversial Nudist, Maheeda has said that her daughter was the first ever thing she did right in her life. She shared an inspiring video of her bonding time with her daughter, and this has move many.

Writing on her Instagram yesterday, Maheeda described her teenager daughter as the first thing she had ever done right in her life.

“The first thing I ever did right in my life (getting pregnant at early age) felt like a big mistake in the beginning…… make your mistakes is oke , just take the responsibility, you will be fine,” said the proud mum.

In another video, she berated her daughter for cussing a man who gave her a lewd wink. “I was busy with my selfie and boom my daughter went all angry. The thing was a guy in a car horn and wink at her from his car, and the girl exploded,” Maheeda said, adding that she will keep working on getting her daughter to quit cussing.

Journalist, Azuka Ogujiuba is reporting that the phones of the Ooni of Ife and four governors were stolen at the wedding of the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun’s daughter, Ayomide to the son of President Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Relations and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Oladipo, which held in Ogun state yesterday. She disclosed this on a post she shared on Instagram.

She wrote;

“The royal fathers were in the building at the Dabiri and Amosu’s wedding in Abeokuta. I am still in awe of how the Ooni’s phone, his best friend Jide Fadairo’s phone and four governors phone was stolen at the wedding? I mean what about their security details, were they dozing or what?

Even on our table my friend @winolive iphone and 30k was nicked from her purse and immediately l mounted more security on my iPhone 7, because it is just 2 weeks old, l know l will faint in that hall if my own joins the missing ones or the thief will steal me along o”she wrote
