A 35-year-old ex-convict, identified as Anietie Okon, was on Tuesday paraded alongside 24 others by the Cross River State Police Command for attempting to a steal car battery just two days after he finished serving his seven years jail term.

Okon said he had gone to steal the battery in order to raise money to buy items for cleansing as prescribed by a church prophet in Calabar.

This came just as state command said it had recovered five AK47 rifles from an undisclosed grave at Goldie cemetery in Calabar.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, said Okon was arrested on May 21 at about 9.45am for breaking into a workshop with the intention of stealing valuable properties.

He said that the victim would soon be charged to court as investigation and confession showed that he was culpable.

Corroborating the commissioner’s position, Okon said, “I had no money on me. I went to the church for deliverance but the prophet asked me to go and buy some materials for cleansing. I did not have any money, so, I went to a mechanic workshop to see if I could get money.

“I sighted a battery and wanted to take it for sale but I was caught by security operatives. That was how I found myself in the police custody again. Please I beg for mercy, I will not do it again. I actually told the church that I had no money.”

Inuwa, who also paraded 24 suspects for various offences ranging from robbery, murder to illegal possession of firearms, among others, called on residents of the state to stay off crime as the police would continue to work hard to reduce illegal activities.

Speaking on the recovered AK47 rifles, Inuwa said that other items recovered from the grave included 200 rounds of 7:62mm short ammunition and seven magazines.

The items, according to the commissioner, were recovered on May 28 by a team of policemen.

“2.1 Million Nigerians Lost Their Jobs In 2016” – NBS Reveals.

The National Bureau of Statistics has revealed that the number of Nigerians who became unemployed rose by 2.1 million to 11.55 million at the end of 2016 from 9.48 million at the beginning of the year.

The NBS stated this in its unemployment report, which was released on Monday night. The NBS report stated that the unemployment rate was highest for persons in the labour force between the ages of 15-24 and 25-34, which represents the youth population in Nigeria.

For instance, it stated that the unemployment rate was highest for those within the age bracket of 15 to 24, rising from 25 per cent to 25.2 per cent. For the 25 to 34 age group, the unemployment rate, according to the report increased from 15 per cent to 15.4 per cent.

It noted that unemployment and underemployment were higher for women than men in the fourth quarter of 2016. For instance, 16.3 per cent of women in the labour force were unemployed as of the end of the fourth quarter of 2016, according to the report.

On the other hand, it added that 12. 3 per cent of males were unemployed in the fourth quarter of last year.

The report stated,

“The economically active population increased from 108.03 million to 108.59 million; this represents a 0.5 per cent increase over the previous quarter and a 3.4 per cent increase when compared to fourth quarter 2015.

In the fourth quarter of 2016, the labour force population increased to 81.15 million from 80.67 million in the third quarter of 2016, representing an increase of 0.6 per cent in the labour force during the quarter.

This means about 482,689 persons from the economically active population entered the labour force during the quarter, that is individuals that were able, willing and actively looking for work.”

Mark Zuckerberg meets founder of FIN, Females in Nigeria Facebook Group, Lola Omolola

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, on Tuesday received Nigeria’s Lola Omolola, founder of a secret Facebook group called Female in Nigeria.

FIN was founded in 2015 by Omolola, a movement of women focused on building compassion and providing support for one another, with the goal of having up to 1000 members in the group.

However, the group exceeded its target as it recently hit one million members.

According to Zuckerberg’s Facebook page on Tuesday, he will be meeting with Lola and a few hundred of other top Facebook group admins in Chicago later in the month for the first ever Facebook Communities Summit.

“Over the past few weeks, I’ve been meeting group admins across the country that are building meaningful communities on Facebook and will be at the summit.

“Two years ago, she founded a secret Facebook group called Female IN, or FIN,’’ Zuckerberg said.

Zuckerberg said FIN is “a no-judgment space where more than a million women come to talk about everything from marriage and sex to health issues and work problems’’

“It is helping to end the culture of silence that exists for women in some parts of the world.’’

He said for the past decade, Facebook had been focused on making the world more open and connected.

The Facebook founder expressed the willingness of the platform to continue to connect persons, adding that there was the need to do much more by bringing people closer together and build common understanding.

“One of the best ways to do that is by helping people build community, both in the physical world and online.

“I have written and talked about these themes throughout this year, especially in my community letter in February and at Harvard Commencement in May.

“The Chicago summit will be the next chapter and we’ll discuss more of what we’re building to empower community leaders to bring the world closer.

“I’m looking forward to meeting more admins like Lola and talking about how we can help them do even more to build community.

“I’ll share more info on the summit as we get closer, and I’ll stream the event live from my profile later this month.’’

Moji Olaiya’s Body Arrives Nigeria from Canada (Photos, Video)

The body of Late Nollywood Actress, Moji Olaiya has arrived Nigeria from Canada few weeks after she died in the country.

The Late 40-year-old actress died of cardiac arrest in Canada just two months after she delivered a baby.

Though, there were reports that her first daughter insisted she wanted her mothers body to be flown back to Nigeria even as she was scheduled to be buried in Canada.

Further reports also claimed that the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose failed to assist with the repatratiation of her body to Nigeria after initially making promises.

The state government however denied ever promising to sponsor the transportation of her body to Nigeria.

It was later learnt that former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu sponsored the repatriation of her body to the country.

A service of songs which saw in attendance her colleagues was held for late Olaiya on Tuesday.

Dammy Krane denied bail, as new details about his arrest emerge.

AfricaMusicLaw is reporting that Dammy Krane and his co-defendant, Chukwuebuka Gabriel Ilonchowu have been denied bail.

AML has obtained a copy of the Complaint/Arrest Affidavit for Nigerian pop singer Dammy Krane and his co-defendant Chukwuebuka Gabriel Ilonchowu (“Ebuka”), an alleged U.S. promoter who allegedly hired Krane’s services to perform in the United States. The complaint explains the details of how and why the two were arrested for the alleged crimes of grand theft, credit card, and identity fraud, among other charges.

To summarize the allegations against the two, Krane and Ebuka purchased two private charter flight tickets with fraudulent credit cards to travel from Miami to Washington D.C. The CEO of the company they purchased the tickets from, Eugene Kesselman of Tap Jets Inc., was suspicious of them and contacted the police who arrived and waited for them at the airport. When the duo subsequently arrived at the airport, the police detained them and subsequently took them into custody, after an investigation.

The police say they were able to identify the duo by their legal names. Dammy Krane had his passport along with several credit cards in the front of his pant pocket. Three of the credit cards were in Krane’s name but four were in the name of a William Payton III. The duo each had a book bag and a suitcase. When the officer searched those, legitimately per the officer’s claim, they found several cell phones and laptops in the bags of the duo.

The two were read their Miranda rights after the police established there was probable cause to arrest them. The police asked if they wished to speak with an attorney. They allegedly declined by waiving their rights to counsel.

By the way, the police say in the complaint that Kesselman’s employee Stephanie Rodriguez claims that she received a call from Dammy Krane who wanted to know when his jet flight would arrive, and also whether there were issues with the credit card on file for him. The police claim that even though she knew that there was an issue, she did not want to alarm him. So she told him there was no issue. Nevertheless, he mentioned there were other card numbers he could give her to ensure there was no issue.

As it stands, both co-defendants are still in custody and have been denied bail. Dammy Krane who was set for a Nebbia Hearing today appeared in court and was denied a release on bail. He is set to be arraigned on June 23rd, 2017.

The District Attorney is also allegedly considering adding more charges against Dammy Krane.

Krane’s co-defendant, Ebuka, has a prior history of grand theft, and fraud crimes.

Yesterday, TBoss and her sister, Aunty Wendy bumped into Olakunle Churchill, Founder of Churchill Big Group at a Microsoft Event, and he seems uninterested in talking to her or even taking a picture.

Despite this apparent snub, the second runner up of the Big Brother Naija Reality TV Show, shared the video of their meeting on her instagram. She captioned it;

“When I was a kid, my dad bought a new car and drove us to church one Sunday. It was a prophetic service and our pastor was being used by God that day to deliver people from poverty.

Suddenly, our pastor looked at my dad and said, “Mr. Alamu, God is set to bless you” my mum jumped up and shouted excitedly, “Amen!!!” My dad was excited too.

The pastor then came closer, placed his hand on my dad’s head and prayed for him. As our pastor turned to climb the altar, the spirit of God told him something.

He stopped, looked at my dad and said, “Mr. Alamu did you buy a new car last week?” “Yes sir” my dad responded with much surprise on his face.

Then our pastor said; God said I should tell you to sow your CAR KEY into my life”

I was shocked that my dad did not argue with the pastor, he just put his hand in his pocket, brought out the car key and gave it to our pastor.

After about 5 minutes, my dad stood up, went outside the church, he didn’t even wait till the end of the service. I could see him entering Okada going home. “He must be very worried” I reasoned in utter fear and confusion.

30 year old late Cheick Tiote, was rushed to a hospital after he had collapsed during a training session, but unfortunately, doctors were unable to save his life.

In another tragic news about the deceased, the Guardian’s Ed Aarons reports that the Ivorian’s wife, Madah is due to give birth to his fourth child this week.

Tiote had two childen with Madah, his first wife, with whom he lived with in the North East during his seven-year with Newcastle.

Former lover Nikki Mpofu revealed she was the mother of his third child in 2014. He also married his second wife Doukrou Laeticia in the Ivory Coast in the same year.

Although having more than one wife is illegal in the UK, it is accepted in Tiote’s homeland.

A freshly crowned beauty queen, Rattana Ramchatu died in a fatal car accident on June 1st, precisely four days after she’d won the Miss Grand Uthai Thani 2017.

The tragic incident took place when the beauty was travelling from Chompon to Bangkok as she had to fulfill some charity works to join as part of Miss Grand Uthai Thani.

The Tap Sakae Poilce stated that the accident happened on the Petkasem in-bound highway in front of Tao Sakae electricity office.

Rattana and her friend were present in the car when the accident took place and the friend who was at the steering wheel got severely injured.

Late Rattana Ramchatu was set to represent her province in the Miss Grand International Thailand 2017 to be held on 18th July.

3 Policemen Reported Dead As Armed Robbers Attack Three Banks Outside Bowen University. (Photos)

Three banks located a stone throw away from Bowen University in Iwo, Osun state were on Tuesday the 6th of June, attacked by heavily armed robbers.

According to reports, three policemen were killed in the robbery operation – the hoodlums had reportedly gone straight to the police station in the town and attacked the men on duty before proceeding to where the three banks in the town are located.

According to an eyewitness, explosives were used and the rains concealed the sounds of the gunshots that went on for about an hour. There was pandemonium around the campus of Bowen University.

The armed men carted away large sums of money, vandalized Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). The banks robbed were Skye Bank, Sterling Bank and First bank.

The university was reportedly not attacked.

A resident said that the streets were deserted as robbers and policemen exchanged fire during the operation.

“Armed robbers attacked the banks in Iwo today. They came this evening and first went staring to the police station and attacked their men there. After that, they went to the area where the banks are located and carried out their operation.

They killed three policemen and the police also killed one of the robbers. It is a terrible day here in Iwo. I think the banks were aware that they could be attacked because they have been closing by 12noon for the past two months or thereabout.”

This is very sad, and at the same time something we wouldn’t wish for, for a family member.

A young pretty lady identified as Halima has left her family and friends puzzled after she mysteriously died yesterday.

According to multiple reports, the lady who was in a hospital in the northern part of the country told her friend in a chat that she would die that day because she was feeling somehow.

Moments after the chat with her close friend, Halima gave up the ghost. May her soul rest in peace.

Two men electrocuted inside a pool while partying in Nairobi (Video)

While partying inside a swimming pool at B club, Diamond Plaza, Nairobi, Kenya over the weekend, two men were electrocuted.

A Facebook user, Kenny Kaburu shared the video while people were trying to save the men in the pool.

He said a live wire inside the swimming pool electrocuted the men while swimming which made them to drown.

They are currently recovering in the hospital because they were luckily rescued alive.

Although, Reports gathered online are that American singer, Omarion performed at the same club the same weekend the incident happened.

However, it is not clear if the incident happened during his show.

Two children have been reportedly dead early this morning as fire razed properties along SDP Road in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.

An eyewitness said, the fire which started in the early hours of today burnt with an uncontrollable speed and force.

Although, security operatives are still investigating as the source of the fire is unknown.

The CTC Chairman of the Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Sim Emmanuel Hart, accompanied by his Secretary Lady Helen Jack-Wilson Pepple, Supervisors and Advisers of Council were present at the scene to confirm the incident.
