27-year-old welder, Sunday Hycenth, has been arrested by the Lagos state Police command for allegedly killing his friend, Onwe Ozoemelem, over a N500 dog meat.
The incident reportedly happened in the FESTAC Town area of the state. According to PUNCH Metro, Hycenth and 26-year-old Ozoemelem had engaged in fisticuffs over the dog meat bought by their friend.
Sunday allegedly hit the deceased, Onwe with fist blows on the chest, after which he slumped and was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
Hycenth was subsequently arrested by policemen from the FESTAC division before the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.
Hycenth hails from the Ezzamgbo area of Ebonyi State, while the late Ozoemelem was born in the Ezza North area of the same state.
The suspect said he worked as a welder around the Waterside area of FESTAC.
He said on December 30, 2016, when the incident happened, he was revelling with his friends when a man bought the dog meat for them. He said,
“The man that bought the meat for us is like a big brother. We started sharing it in the order of seniority. The meat had gone round and it remained two pieces for me and the deceased. He suddenly picked the two and ate them. He then dropped the plate.
“I challenged him for eating the meat and he said the man that bought it didn’t say I must also eat from it. I told him if he needed to eat meat that badly he should have gone back to his village and that was how the fight started.”
He explained that after some minutes of wrestle, they were separated. The suspect claimed that he later went inside his room to drink water and change his clothes.
Hycenth said a few minutes afterwards, the victim began groaning with pain and complained of chest pains, adding that he was among those that rushed him to a hospital in the area.
Hycenth denied responsibility for the death of his friend.
“I didn’t punch him or use any object to hit him. It was just a normal fight and he was on top of me when we were separated. He told me he did not smoke because he had a chest pain that had been disturbing him for some time. I didn’t kill him,” he added.
Punch adds that the police were awaiting the result of the autopsy conducted on the corpse while the families of the victim and suspect were making plans to bury Ozoemelem in Ebonyi.
Hycenth was on Thursday arraigned before an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court on one count of murder. His plea was not taken for the charge.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, asked that the defendant be kept in prison pending the release of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
But the defence counsel, A.A. Onyiuke, urged the court to look into the facts of the case, saying the charge brought by the police was not appropriate.
The Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Olajuwon, after perusing the case file, said the charge brought by the police was wrong.
She said,
“Both of them were fighting when one of them fell and died. So, it is not murder, but manslaughter. I am going to grant him bail pending the release of legal advice.”
She subsequently gave the suspect bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum. Olajuwon adjourned the matter to February 6, 2017, for legal advice.
Almost all of Nigeria social media has been buzzing with the news of singer, Runtown allegedly sleeping with his promoter BadGuy Toba’s fiancee, Nana.
There’s a new update now though as supposed close friend to Nana sent this message to popular Nigerian Twitter user, Subdeliveryman which states that Nana cheated because Toba is a chronic womaniser and Nana wasn’t sure if he was going to stay.
It should be noted BTW, that this is alleged as you read the message below:
The singer’s team has denied the story stating they don’t know where the gist is coming from. Toba himself has been promoting Runtown’s February 12th concert on his social media pages during the day.
The Director-General of Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr. Joe Abah had earlier today asked a question about bleaching on Twitter, and then in a coincidental twist about an hour later, he spotted Nigerian bleaching expert, Bobrisky at an event.

In this teaser for the show’s upcoming interview, Odom sat down with host Dr. Travis Stork, who asked the troubled athlete what he’s looking forward to in the years to come.
“Honestly, I want my wife back,” Odom admitted with a smile as the audience cheered him on.
This isn’t the first time the former Los Angeles Lakers star has said he’s interested in reconciling with his ex.
During an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians last May, which aired before their divorce was finalized, Odom said “I’ll say my prayers” when asked if he’d like to get back with the Revenge Body star.
This is painfully one of the most dissatisfying things that can ever happen to someone – after anticipating a brand new 55 inch plasma TV, this lady was conned by online retailers, as they wrapped ordinary wood in place of the TV.

Tonto Dikeh had called her daughter Purity a ‘witch’ after Mercy resumed acting, 4 months after giving birth to her first child, Purity, in US back in 2013.
But she didn’t include full names, just initials as she said in a subtle tweet – many who believed the tweet was referring to Mercy Johnson engaged Tonto in a twitter war – and then Tonto replied:
‘Every1 who comes to ma tl to Rant Abt ur FOOL MJ is a bigger baztard Dan SHE is coz I never cald no Bitch’z Name**F*ck U**
Like that wasn’t hurtful enough, she then took a very direct shot at Mercy Johnson:
“Bitch Lozt her Name, U gonno Uze mii az A come back???Naaahhhhh go Nurze Ur Witch Bitch** #StayBlessed”
Mercy in a reply later on during an interview when asked how she felt when she heard that Tonto talked mean about her, said:
‘It was a friend who called to tell me a colleague in Nollywood is questioning my decision to go back to go back to acting soon. I only asked her a question, I said: ‘Did the actress mention my name?’ she said no. But my fans are insinuating that she was talking about me, so they fired back at her with insult and all.
I am a moving train by the special grace of God in heaven. I will continue to do good for myself and my fans who have stood by me all these years. I have no beef with nobody. I am a cool person and i ahte and fear troubles. I always pray for those that wish for my downfall.

Nollywood veteran actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo has returned to school to study law – he shared the news to his fans on Instagram. Writing:

The beautiful actress and her second daughter, Olivia, both looked sassy as they donned Ankara dresses during the week. The mother and daughter sure know how to serve some goals eh?
While we can only but hope all is well in the actress’s marital home, the motion which she took recently on her social media page can’t simply go unnoticed.
The actress removed her husband’s family name “Churchill” from her IG bio and replaced it with just her own name – the “C” will now stand for her second name, Charity. The “Yummy wife/mummy” tag she put on her Instagram is also missing.
She might be off IG, she definitely still has buzz with her SC – the curvy actress took to the platform to talk about hating and also encouraged people to be more supportive.
A woman in a desperate attempt to smuggle her boyfriend out of prison by hiding him in a pink suitcase, got caught when she struggled to pull it along on her way out.
The attempted jailbreak took place in the Jose Antonio Anzoategui prison, better known as Puente Ayala, located in the state of Anzoategui, in north-eastern Venezuela.
Antonieta Robles Saouda, 25, went to the jail with a six-year-old girl to visit Ibrain Jose Vargas Garcia, who is serving nine years and eight months after being convicted for car robbery.
She came in carrying a pink suitcase but the guards’ suspicions were aroused when she had difficulty moving it on the way out.
On closer inspection, they found a very cramped Vargas huddled inside.
Though a small and slim man, Vargas has evidently performed a feat of contortionism to cram himself into the small space, as pictures released by the jail show.
The brand-new looking pink suitcase is large but no larger than those usually seen at airports, and Saouda had even crammed in some extra material, perhaps to soften the outline of Vargas’s form.
The couple were both arrested and the man was sent back to his cell. The little girl was put in the temporary care of Social Services.
Nigerian Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has warned that religion will kill Nigeria if it is not tamed.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the presentation of a book, Religion and the Making of Nigeria, written by Prof. Olufemi Vaughan, the Nobel laureate imagined what the world would be if religion had never been invented and condemned killings in the name of religion saying he wondered how any rational being could attempt to justify homicide as an act of devotion.
Wole said:
If we do not tame religion in this nation, religion would kill us.
“I do not say kill religion, though, I wouldn’t mind a bit if that mission could be undertaken surgically, painlessly perhaps, under anaesthesia, effectively sprayed all over the nation or perhaps during an induced pouch of religious ecstasy.
“However, one has to be realistic. Only the religiously possessed or committed would deny the obvious.
The price that many have paid, not just within this society but by humanity in general, makes one wonder if the benefits have really been more than the losses.”
Can one think of any landscape without religious architecture?
Many Nigerians have paid the ultimate price because of religion and religion is now embedded in our society.
In this very nation, in Southern Kaduna, over 800 souls were brutally extinguished suddenly while the issue of grazing land versus farming is unquestionably part of the conflict. It is equally undeniable that religious differences have played crucial role in the conflict.
The innocent ones are the ones who often pay the ultimate price in religious crisis. Even religious leaders cannot denounce the murdering acts of religion.
Religion now induces trauma and anxiety instead of solace that it claims to give. Religion is the ironic product of human inadequacy.
There is a monster always waiting to pounce on innocent Nigerians under the name of religion,” he added.
