The Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has revealed that despite Lagos being a metropolitan city, there are taboos in his palace.
For example, as a king, he is not allowed to see any newborn child born to him until 90 days. In an interview with Punch published today, the Oba said:
There is nowhere there are no taboos, in Benin, Yoruba cultures. For instance, in this house (palace), if a child is born to me today, I will not see him or her and he or she will not enter this house (palace) until 90 days. And there are some drinks and food anybody with royal blood in this palace must not put in his mouth. That is why the Yoruba adage says the practice in one household is an abomination in another household.
Why can’t you see your child and what are the food and drinks that such persons from the royal lineage must not taste?
Just like I said, an adage says what an elderly person uses to eat pap is hidden under the leaves of the pap (which implies that there are certain details that cannot be made public).
Beyond the ones in the palace, what are the taboos that millions of Lagos residents should know?
When it comes to taboos, Yoruba would say whoever does what no one has ever tried would see what no one has ever seen. The normal taboos in Yoruba customs are many.
Like it is in the Quran, all sins can be forgiven, except two. One is that anybody who deliberately kills another person cannot be forgiven and anybody who deliberately takes his mother to the holy mosque in Mecca, during the Ramadan fast, to go and have affair with her there, will not be forgiven.
But, people should know their limits. Like the popular adage, a farmland cannot belong to father and son without having a boundary; they would know their boundaries. And that is why nobody can ill-treat anybody around me here. Anybody who feels he can come and do anything unjust in Lagos here should know that it will not work.

A physically-challenged couple on Firday, put their challenges aside and tied the nuptial knot at a well-attended marriage ceremony in Ibadan.
The bridegroom, Paul Egbezokhai Kadiri who is a 52- year old and his 43-year old heartthrob, Grace Olufunke Omooba were joined together at Jesus kids, home for special people with disabilities, Iwo road, Ibadan.
Egbezokhai Kadiri who is deaf and dumb resides and works in Modakeke, Osun State, while his wife who suffers from Cerebral palsy is resident in Ibadan. Their condition makes it difficult for them to communicate effectively but they were joyous all through the event as they danced effortlessly.
Grace has been in the motherless home, Jesus kids for over ten years.
In his sermon entitled “God of the able and the hope of the disabled”, Pastor Ayotunde Adamolekun said the couple should ensure that they work together and respect each other.
The groom’s mother took responsibility to help the couple due to the vulnerability caused by their condition. She has volunteered to help and live with the family.
The President of the Home, Pst. Ololade Adamolekun while commenting on the historic event at the centre which started in 2010 said:
“I am very happy for this day and I give glory to God. Grace’s prayers all through the years has been for her to get married and I am happy that her dream has finally been realized. She has been living with me for the past 10 years even before we started Jesus kids”, she added.

The stunning Nollywood actress stepped out wearing a different look for the premiere of Wale Adenuga’s production on Friday. She rocked a blonde hair that gave her a look quite different from her norm.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has taken time out pen an open letter to sons everywhere, cautioning them on their everyday activities, especially on social media.
The actor spoke on how they talk to and about women. He said he is concerned that the women, who get their attention, are not the virtuous, brilliant but the frivolous party, skimpy clad ones.
Read below:
Dear Son,
“I’m writing to you today because there is no day “internationally” set aside for the “boy child”, so, tired of looking on in horror as you constantly shock and embarrass me, this is from daddy to you.
I’m shocked at how many of you carry yourselves here on social media. I am shocked at the things you L O L at. I am worried at the way you speak to and about women. I am frightened at the kinds of things that inspire and motivate you.
I am concerned that the women who get your attention are not the virtuous, brilliant types but the frivolous party, skimpily clad ones.
I am disappointed to see that the pictures you fall over yourselves double tapping are not the inspirational quotes or of clean, beautiful modest women but of women with their B.reasts, thighs and bottoms spilling over.
I cringe at how many of you blatantly use swear and curse words at women like it makes you cool.
I am distraught to see that many of you insinuate that a man who loves and stays with one woman is a wimp, that a man who publicly displays and speaks about his love for his woman is a “jew man”, that a man who is more interested in deeply spiritual and intellectual pursuits should be shamed…
I am worried son, deeply worried.
My dear son, being uncouth, indecent, unintelligent is NOT cool and contrary to what you think, the man who stays on social media looking for Nakked ladies to validate, smart people to shame, brilliant people to tear down, celebrities to attack are NOT men but little boys battling low self esteem issues.
A real man loves God and is not ashamed to show it. He loves and respects women. He does not ask for Nuddes and if any misguided woman sends him her Nuddes respectfully deletes it and not use it as a blackmailing tool. A real man reads, yes, he reads a lot. He picks his mentors wisely, thinks before he speaks and reads his comments over and over before he hits send.
Dear son, do not let the “anonymity” of social media make you a fool rather use it to shine and be kind, reasonable and sensible at all times because that is the man I desire to see you be.”
Love,
Daddy

A father has been sentenced to four years in prison after his 12-year-old son accidentally shot his best friend dead with a bolt-action hunting rifle.
The tragedy happened in Poland, Daily Mail reports, the young schoolboy, whose name has not been released, was at home playing with his friend from school, who also happened to be his neighbour.
Moving around the house, they found a real hunting rifle – a CZ-550 – which they reportedly thought was a toy.
As the pair were playing with the deadly weapon, reports said it went off and the boy’s best friend was fatally shot in the head.
By the time an ambulance arrived, the boy was already dead and paramedics were unable to help.
Prosecutors are blaming the father, whose name has also not been released, for improperly storing the weapon, which was stowed away in a place ‘easily accessible by children.
Adam Fudali, a gun expert and former police officer, told local media:
‘If the weapon got into the hands of the child, it was stored in a wrong way. This tragedy is the result of carelessness and neglect and it is a fault of the adult who should secure the weapons.’
The father, an avid hunter and gun owner, initially pleaded not guilty but in the end admitted it was his fault and that he had to accept the consequences of his son’s actions.
The court sentenced him to four years in prison. It was not reported who the child will stay with during his father’s absence.

A man, Gideon Johnson, has accused his wife of poisoning his driver, who then allegedly ran mad after eating a meal she prepared for him to eat.
Gideon said this at a Grade C Customary Court sitting at Agodi-Ibadan, Oyo State, where he had gone to seek the dissolution of his 17-year-old marriage to his wife, Oluwatoyin.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that he accused his wife, who has four children for him of bad character and threats to his life and other members of his family. Gideon in his testimony told the court that he gave the food his wife prepared for him to his driver to eat.
“The innocent driver ran mad few hours after he had eaten the food and was chained before we could take him to his family for solution.
“She intended to make me mad, she is fetish, diabolical and a threat to my life; in fact, she killed my elder brother and my father through her fetish ways.
“She almost succeeded in ruining my ministry when she ganged up with my enemies to spoil me before the big personalities that usually come to my church for prayers,” he said.
He also told the court that he had not slept with his wife in the last 11 years because of her bad characters. Gideon said that he would kill his wife if the court should decline his request to separate them.
However, Oluwatoyin Johnson, in her defence, objected to the allegations levelled against her and denied ever killing his father and brother- in-law. The mother of four told the court that her husband abandoned her 11 years ago when he married another woman who bore three kids for him.
“He neither cared for me nor for the four children of the marriage but was always abusing me whenever he is preaching on the pulpit in the church. “He accused me of being a witch and possessed spiritual power and I had challenged him to do deliverance for me since he is a pastor,” she said.
She, however, pleaded with the court not to dissolve the marriage for the sake of the children.
President of the court, Chief Mukaila Balogun, dissolved the marriage and ordered the two children to be with the plaintiff, while the custody of the remaining two children should be with their mother.
Balogun also ordered the plaintiff to be paying N8, 000 monthly as maintenance allowance for the two children that are in the custody of their mother.
He also directed the plaintiff to pay N12,000 as house rent and N5,000 as transport fees for the defendant to pack her load from his house.
He warned the parties to maintain peace and steer clear of anything that could bring disharmony.

While no one knows for sure how their future would pan out, studies have shown that there is actually an ideal age bracket for you to get married so you will have a successful union.
These days, more couple are waiting until a later time to get married. More people want to wait until they are financially and emotionally ready to deal with marriage challenges so this means, the age people tend to marry have changed over the years.
A recent research into marriage ages and the likelihood of divorce has shown that marrying in your late 20s or early 30s reduces the chances of divorce.

However, this does not mean late is always better because the same study also showed that the risk of divorce goes up if you marry in your late 30’s and beyond.
It was previously assumed that marrying later is better since you now have more experiences, are more matured and know exactly what you want in a partner but this data has shown that if you wait too late, it might cause the opposite effect.
Obviously, marrying before you are ready or matured enough (before late 20’s) can lead to divorce because you might be married to someone you did not get to know too well or you are just not in the best position to make things work.
Marrying too late, however, can lead to divorce because most people in that situation usually do so out of desperation and are usually reluctant to be married in the first place. It is clear how this can lead to divorce eventually.
So, while the decision for when you should get married is ultimately up to you, an age bracket of between 27–32 can be your best bet.

Mavin Artiste, and mother of one, Aphro Di’Ja has given a reason as to why she is yet to record a song with her label mate Tiwa Savage.
She said,
Uhm, do you see how many we are? And how do you know we haven’t? I keep telling people that, it’s not all the songs that you recorded today, that you’d be release today. So depending on how long you have been working. When you started is only as irrelevant as whatever people feel that they already know about what you are doing, but then you have been working on many things, but I always say, how do you even know we haven’t collaborated yet, it’s just that the said song, you haven’t heard it yet. Then there are so many of us, and there are so many songs in Mavin right now, because we like music, and each and every one of us, bring something very different, which is why it works so well. So sometimes you see similarities some other times you see differences, and it is those differences that complements the other. So you never know what to expect until you see.
Di’ja also says she doesn’t have any issue with the fact that Tiwa Savage is referred to as “First Lady” of Mavin Records.
But i met her there, right? I mean, she is the first lady of Mavin records. It’s kind of funny when people want to state the obvious. Tiwa is such an inspiring person. Set aside the fact that we are even in the same record label, i mean, she has done so much and been through so much, and she still keeps this standard of performance that she does all the time, you know what i mean, you can see it. For me, it’s inspiring, and like i said, i met her there. When you go to a place and you meet someone there, it’s one of two things, it’s either you learn from them or you don’t, and so what i am doing and what would be good for me is to learn from somebody that is that strong and that can inspire me and it’s really mad cool, yeah.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has stressed the need for Nigeria to develop its own plan capable of effectively addressing the current economic downturn.
Fashola, who spoke while delivering a lecture on “Freedom from Fear, Choices before the New Generation” to mark the 42nd convocation of the University of Benin, Edo State, said that Nigerians must overcome their fears and use their natural resources to create solutions and improve their lives.
While addressing the graduating students, he said, “We will not pray our way out of recession; we will plan and produce our way back to prosperity and out of recession and you are the freshest, youngest and most energetic workforce we will have to work with.
“You are the new batteries to power the engine of growth of our country. Your choices must be clear, free from fear, not reckless but driven by analytical thought, questioning and probing and ultimately determined by convictions.”
According to him, young Nigerians must, like their counterparts in developed countries, free their minds from fear, rather than depend solely on spiritual answers to the problems.

Self proclaimed, Egberi papa 1 of Bayelsa, Timaya has two adorable daughters from baby mama, Barbara. The singer, in a new interview with Punch, revealed he didn’t promise his baby mama marriage, because it wasn’t on his to-do list yet but that he assured her he wasn’t going to have kids from different women.
He said:
“I am not getting married soon. My life is a journey. My career is my journey. I didn’t lie to my baby mama when she was pregnant; I told her I wasn’t ready to get married. I never said I wasn’t going to get married. But at the moment, I am not ready. When she told me she was pregnant, I accepted the pregnancy. She told me she hoped I wasn’t going to be like other musicians who had kids from different women. I told her no. My two kids are from same woman. I know what I am doing.”
Gushing about his kids, Timaya added:
I never knew I could love anyone the way I love my daughters. My first daughter is my best friend. I didn’t know what I wanted when I had her. But I knew I wanted to rebrand. So I had to take off the dreadlock.”
“My dreadlock was a strategy. I wanted people to see me as a rude boy. I couldn’t have been giving all those trouble with a calm and clean face. I wanted a look that would associate with it. Now, people come to me and I smile.
“I was happy I was controversial and I was being talked about. I used to struggle to be known before then and I desperately wanted to be known. Finally, they started talking about me. People felt I was troublesome. Some felt I was controversial. Even those who didn’t know my music knew my name. When I had got what I wanted, I felt it was time for me to rebrand.”

Five Star Music artiste, Kcee has dropped the visuals to his latest single – Tender… featuring the rave of the moment – Tekno.

Not many ladies in Ghana would dare profess love to a man, even so, in an open manner.
In a rather rare and unusual instance however, a lady who identifies herself as Adoley has defied the odds and taken to social media to express her unflinching love for the first gentleman of the land and the NDC’s presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama offering him free sex.
In a viral video, Adoley is seen in a John Mahama branded t-shirt expressing admiration for the President in Ga.
According to her, President Mahama’s looks qualify him to have “free sex” with her, adding that she would gladly offer herself without demanding anything in return.
“oh Mahama, where have you been all this while I’ve been searching for you…I have been searching for you just so I can fondle you, if it is my breasts, my bottocks or free sex, I will gladly offer it even if you don’t pay for it…”
In a sharp contrast though, Adoley describes John Mahama’s opponent and the presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, as a weak man incapable of performing any ‘manly duties in bed’ due to his old age.

Renowned news television station, CNN has denied the reports that went viral of how the station aired 30 minutes of inappropriate content on Thursday night.
What really happened was a viewer was tuning in for a new episode of Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown on CNN when the show took on an unexpected new meaning and showed hardcore porn starring transsexual pornstar Riley Quinn.
The viewer, @Solikearose immediately complained about the mishap on Twitter, posted multiple NSFW images of the on-air pornography online on the social media website asking if anyone else was seeing what she was seeing.
“I can’t wait until [RCN] wakes up [tomorrow and] realizes that hardcore porn was broadcast on [CNN] instead of [Parts Unknown] tonight.
“Did anyone else with RCN in Boston see the hardcore porn that was broadcast by CNN by mistake?” she asked.
Photos below:

Unfortunately for her, before she even realized it, her story blew. Dozens of news outlets including Variety, the New York Post, and Esquire reported it. Their stories were shared thousands of times on Facebook and Twitter, along with the notion that it was a widespread problem affecting “viewers in Boston.”
And it all went viral. Moments later, Rose began receiving abusive hate messages from people accusing her of perpetrating a widely circulated hoax.
It turned out only her house was affected, no other viewer had seen the hardcore porn. RCN also responded, saying:
“We have not had any reports of the programming issue you mentioned on CNN in Boston. If you’re still having an issue with that channel, please DM us your address so we can troubleshoot when you’re home.”
The embarrassed woman later spoke with BuzzFeed News regarding the entire ordeal:
“I initially posted because I wanted to see if anyone else in Boston had been affected,” the used explained on Friday. “I think it was a broadcasting error that affected only my house.”
She has since made her Twitter account private because of the assaults but she still insists that she did not fabricate her story.
“I can tell you that it’s real,” she continued. “People [accused] me of faking the story and creepy men sending me dick pics and sexual messages.”
The pornstar star featured also thanked the network for the free airtime.
