Nigerian man plans to marry his widowed mother-in-law 2 years after wife’s death

A Nigerian man has sparked a significant controversy after expressing his desire to marry his widowed mother-in-law.

Popular Nigerian columnist Azuka Onwuka shared the story on Twitter, revealing that the 46-year-old man lost his wife at the age of 34, leaving behind three children – two boys and a girl.

Now, after two years of grieving, he is ready to remarry but doesn’t want to marry someone from outside the family who might mistreat his children.

According to Azuka, the man has expressed his intention to marry his late wife’s mother, who is 57 years old and also a widow.

The man’s proposition has, however, generated mixed opinions within their extended families, with some members supporting the idea while others opposing it.

“A man (name withheld) lost his wife after they had had three children (two boys and a girl). His wife died at 34 years old. Two years after, he wants to marry his mother-in-law who is 57 years old and a widow. He is 46 years old. He says he does not need more children nor want to marry an outsider who may isolate and maltreat his children. Some members of their two wider families support the idea while many are against it. Is this right?” Azuka asked on Twitter.

Esther shared her dilemma in a Facebook group on Sunday, July 17, 2023, seeking advice from Nigerian members.

According to Esther, she plans to visit Nigeria to meet her boyfriend’s family. However, she is unsettled by the fact that he’s asking her to bear all the travel expenses.

Her words,

“Hello Nigerian members. I need your help to discern. I’m in love with a Nigerian man. We are both Christians and we plan to meet soon in Nigeria in order for me to meet his family but the issue is that he wants me to pay for all the travel expenses as a way of proving my love.

“He didn’t even suggest 50/50 but 100%. He says he will pay me back once I get there. Is this the Nigerian way of loving a woman? In my country, no man would suggest such to the woman he loves. Men foot bills here until he marries you then you can begin to share the responsibilities as long as you’re also earning

UPS Technology: Bringing you enhanced connectivity for everyday situations

UPS Technology

It’s no exaggeration to say that smartphones have become a necessity for modern life. By 2023, nearly 7 billion people worldwide are expected to benefit from the convenience brought by smart mobile devices and mobile networks. After several decades of continuous development and improvement, today’s smartphones offers computing performance, camera technology, battery life, charging, and communications features that would have been unthinkable in the not-so-distant past.

Among these features, network connectivity is typically one of the top concerns for smartphone users. Having developed at an incredibly rapid pace too, cell phone networks today cover most urban environments on this planet, enabling billions of people to connect online anytime, anywhere without interruptions. But despite the scale and sophistication of today’s mobile networks, there are still some occasions when connectivity can be suboptimal, often due to factors like poor phone performance or local network infrastructure. This can be of critical importance in times of emergency, when poor network connectivity could result in fatal delays. In such situations, the need for good connectivity becomes all to clear.

UPS Technology

Why does phone signal differ from one device to another?

Mobile communication is a complex process involving multiple components like baseband chips, antennas, and more. When we send a message via WhatsApp, the baseband chip converts this message into an electrical signal and sends it to the nearest base station via radio waves through the phone’s antenna. After receiving the signal, the base station forwards this to the base station closest to the receiver, which then relays the message to the recipient’s phone. The recipient’s phone then converts the electrical signal back into text so that it can be read by our friend.

This of course is a highly simplified version of events. In reality, the radio waves sent by the phones and base stations will encounter a large number of obstacles on their journey, undergoing various forms of refraction, reflection, and diffraction that ultimately cause the signal strength to weaken before it reaches its destination. Walking into an elevator or an underground pass will block most routes for the radio waves to travel, and crowded places — where hundreds or even thousands of similar signals are flying around at the same time — can cause interference. Even holding a phone horizontally when playing games or watching videos can block the phone’s antenna. Together, these everyday situations have a large impact on signal strength, leading to stuttering phone calls, forever-loading web pages, and even full disconnection.

No two phone models are built the same, and signal performance can vary dramatically between different smartphones depending on their specific hardware and the user scenario in question. Excellent hardware no doubt forms the foundation for smooth network connectivity, but it is the effective use of software and signal processing algorithms that ensure this hardware remains effective in a variety of different situations.

Stable connectivity is only possible on flagship smartphones, right?

Despite being such an essential feature, not every smartphone is able to provide consistently good network connectivity. Given their high level of sophistication, certain technologies designed to improve connectivity are only available on high-end flagship models. However, with entry-level and mid-range smartphone users accounting for a higher proportion of users than those with high-end smartphones, it seems only fair that these users also have access to the same level of smooth connectivity.

Following extensive research into real user experiences, Infinix has developed Ultra Powerful Signal (UPS) — a new technology that makes its debut on the latest NOTE 30 series. Through innovative hardware and software design and algorithmic optimizations, UPS improves connectivity in everyday scenarios such as underground environments, elevators, and suburban locations, or those in which the phone is held horizontally, bringing users flagship-level connectivity on a mid-range device.

Enjoy a more stable connection with Infinix UPS

The UPS technology featured on the NOTE 30 series has been developed in house by Infinix based on an in-depth analysis of user scenarios. By enhancing antenna performance, optimizing mainstream frequency band signals, automatically adapting the antenna allocation based on the phone holding position, and providing algorithmic tuning for specific scenarios, UPS improves connectivity in a wide range of everyday situations.

UPS Technology

On the NOTE 30 5G, Infinix has implemented a 4×4 MIMO antenna design that uses four antennas to send and receive data between base stations, significantly improving data throughput and enhancing signal coverage range and strength. The internal antenna architecture has also been redesigned to increase the antenna surface area and reduce electromagnetic interference between the antenna and other components to deliver enhanced antenna performance and signal reception.

UPS also features software innovations designed to optimize the multiple antenna architecture. These enable functions such as smart antenna switching, which allocates the most stable connection between mobile networks and Wi-Fi by monitoring the way in which the phone is being held in real time. Infinix has also conducted hundreds of simulations on different phone holding position in different scenarios, particularly focusing on the way phones are held horizontally when playing games. Thanks to the inclusion of UPS technology, the NOTE 30 series delivers a 20-40% increase in signal strength and a 100% increase in Wi-Fi signal, enabling gamers to say goodbye once and for all to mid-game lag and dropout.

UPS Technology

In addition to hardware improvements, UPS technology also introduces a HyperSignal tuning algorithm to improve connectivity in elevators, basements, and other environments in which weak signal and unstable connections can be commonplace. In enclosed spaces such as elevators, HyperSignal can help to quickly switch the phone back to 4G and 5G networks from 2G and 3G and restore network status from weak to strong. This leads to a 32% reduction in the time needed to establish a network connection and improves mobile data throughput by 30%. Additionally, for scenarios in which latency can have a big impact on the user experience — think TikTok and MOBA games —UPS’s smart acceleration function can concentrate all network resources on the application that is active in the foreground. This ensures that, even with limited bandwidth, users can enjoy their current application without interruptions, including streaming uninterrupted video in an area with just 1-2 bars of signal.

UPS Technology

Innovations built on user insights

As young users continue to seek more from their smartphone experience, Infinix remains commitment to developing in-house innovations built on real user experiences. The introduction of UPS technology on the NOTE 30 series brings unprecedented network connectivity capabilities that enable users to enjoy a flagship-level smartphone experience on a mid-range product. Together with Infinix’s All-Round Fast Charge, the new NOTE 30 series helps you Take Charge and stay connected with the world 24/7.

Infinix Note 30 series is available at authorized retail outlets across Nigeria. Follow Infinix Nigeria on social media for more information about the Note 30 Series.

“I had started music before going for BBNaija” – Realty TV star, Whitemoney

Big Brother Naija “Shine Ya Eye” winner and singer, Hazel Oyeze Onou, popularly known as Whitemoney, has revealed that he was into music long before participating in the reality show.

The reality TV star disclosed this while appearing on the latest episode of The House Chronicles podcast.

According to Whitemoney, he had already begun his music career and even had his own band prior to his participation in Big Brother Naija.

“I was already into music before [going on the Big Brother Naija reality show]. It is just that I was doing more of highlife. Back in the days, I had a band and everything, and there was no media to really show us out, but I did my thing low-key. I have been in music for long. I got my scholarship as a drummer to go to school.

“When I came out [of Big Brother Naija show], the opportunities that presented themselves were not cooking opportunities. In fact, no cooking brand came to me. For those who are saying, ‘When this one start singing?’ I think they forgot that 99 per cent of the music composed in Big Brother House was done by me.” He said.

A while ago, Whitemoney reacted after a Nigerian journalist, Taiwo Alabi, in an open letter humbly advised him to quit music.

Speaking in an interview with Cool Fm, Whitemoney said he has received tons of hate comments from people who tend to compare him to past Big Brother Naija winners.

He reiterated that, contrary to claims that he’s following a trend by going into music, he had been doing music before he went into Big Brother’s house.

“I don’t mind going to my grave without reconciling with Basketmouth” – Comedian AY (Video)

Ace comedian, Ayodeji Makun, popularly known as AY, has revealed that he has given up on trying to reconcile with his colleague, Basketmouth.

AY and Basketmouth have been at odds for 17 years, and AY recently disclosed that the rift was over a N30,000 gig.

During an interview with Chude Jideonwo, AY claimed that his issue with Basketmouth began in 2006 when Basketmouth failed to pay him the agreed-upon N30,000 for standing in for him at an event.

However, Basketmouth denied ever being friends with AY and stated that most of the claims made by AY during his interview with Chude Jideonwo were lies.

In what appeared to be an effort to make peace, AY publicly declared Basketmouth as his “guy” during his Easter Sunday show in London in April 2023. Unfortunately, this gesture did not result in a reconciliation between the two comedians. ICYMI, read here.

In a recent interview with Teju Babyface, AY disclosed that he had made efforts over the years to mend their relationship, but he has now reached a point where he no longer desires reconciliation and is willing to carry the grudge to his grave.

AY mentioned that senior colleagues in the comedy industry were aware of his attempts to reconcile with Basketmouth. However, they advised him to step back and stop forcing the reconciliation when Basketmouth remained unyielding.

“The bros [senior colleagues in the comedy industry] knew [about my beef with Basketmouth] and at some point in time, they had to ask me to slow down. They were like: ‘You’re doing too much. You are putting in too much to make this thing work. Friendship is not by force.

“I was believing that ‘No, this can work’. Even in my last stand-up comedy, I had to go on stage and I did another routine ‘My guy. How’s my guy? This is my guy. If you see this guy, tell him he’s my guy.’ And the following morning, every where exploded again. ‘We are not friends. We are not that. We are not this.

“So, for me now, I’m not pushing anything anymore. As I’m here now as AY, if I have to go to my grave without sitting with any of these guys to say ‘hello, ‘hi,’ I will be happy.” He said.

“I was not married to my ex-husband when I met Yul” – Actress, Judy Austin opens up (Video)

Controversial Nollywood actress, Judy Austin, has finally addressed her ex-husband’s claim that she started dating her colleague, Yul Edochie, while she was still married to him.

You will recall that Judy’s ex-husband, Obasi, called her out online in October 2022, accusing her and Yul of denying him access to his kids.

Obasi alleged that in 2012, he discovered Judy was having an affair with Yul Edochie, after which he noticed a change in her attitude towards him. This forced him to report her to her kinsmen, who resolved their issue.

He claimed that shortly after, Judy moved out of their matrimonial home with their two children and left with Yul Edochie.

However, finally reacting to Obasi’s claim months later, Judy Austin debunked it as false.

In a Facebook live session on Tuesday night, Judy revealed that she met Yul months after her marriage to Obasi ended.

According to her, her previous marriage ended in March 2013, and she met Yul Edochie years later.

“That is the fattest lie ever told about me on social media and I am going to elaborate more. My previous marriage ended in March 2013 and I saw Yul Edochie for the very first time years after my marriage ended.

I repeat, my previous marriage ended in March 2013 and I set my eyes on Yul Edochie for the first time years after that marriage ended. I saw him years after my marriage was completely dissolved. So anyone saying otherwise, they are planning lying.

If I saw Yul while in that marriage, let all the curses and insults that people have been heaping on me, let it happen to me a billion over but if for any reason I did not see Yul with my eyes years after my marriage was dissolved, then let all the curses go back to the people laying the curses a billion times over”. She said.

She also mentioned that she will be exposing her married colleagues who engage in adultery.

She stated that in the last six months, she has gathered evidence against those who have been attacking her and will be exposing them.

In his words;

“If we date, it’s actually loyalty over love. “I’m not leaving over an argument. I’m not leaving because you still have unhealed wounds. I’m not leaving because you messed up.

I’m not leaving because sometimes you said the wrong things. I’m not leaving because no one showed you how to properly communicate. We learn together. Just always be honest with me. That’s all I ask.”

“I didn’t steal the car, I only drove it from Abuja to Delta State” – Man who absconded with N55m Benz during test drive in Abuja speaks

Meshach Isinugo, the man who allegedly absconded with a N55 million Mercedes Benz SUV during a test drive in Abuja, has denied being a car thief.

Meshach is reported to have disguised himself as a prospective buyer and escaped with a Benz GLB 250 while test-driving the vehicle owned by a car dealer named Mohammed Manga in Abuja a few weeks ago.

He was apprehended by the Delta State Police Command, and the car valued at N55 million was recovered after being tracked down. The suspect allegedly abandoned the vehicle in a bush along Oteri Road in Ughelli North.

According to DSP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the command, Meshach specializes in stealing cars while posing as a potential buyer.

However, in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Meshach denied being a car thief. He claimed that he only drove the car to Delta State without the owner’s knowledge.

Meshach stated that he decided to drive the car when the dealer, who was sitting in the passenger seat during the test drive, took longer than expected to return after going to get cash to buy fuel at a filling station.

The suspect claimed that the day after he arrived in Delta, the car dealer angered him by posting his picture on the internet and accusing him of being a car thief. The dealer also threatened that the police were after him.

Meshach alleged that the dealer’s actions prompted him to switch off his phone to make himself unreachable.

“I’m from Ughelli in Delta State, but I live in Abuja. I’m into foreign exchange and bureau de change business. I have been doing this for seven years. I started along that line when I was in secondary school. My business is at Istanbul Airport, Turkey, so I used to shuttle between there and Nigeria. I started it there in 2021. I returned from Instabul in May after the general elections.

“I was arrested on July 6 for car theft after I was tracked by the police. Actually, I moved the car from Abuja to Delta State.

“I didn’t steal the car, but it was not mine. What happened was that I got the owner’s contact from an online platform. He posted the car’s picture on the platform, putting it up for sale. When I called him to indicate an interest, he told me to come for the car inspection. He was also Abuja-based and the location he invited me to was at Garki.

“I saw the car, and the intending seller put the price at N58 million. I offered to pay N30 million and he said I should test-drive it so that I would know the value of what I was pricing. He gave me the car key and sat on the passenger seat

“When we got to a filling station, he asked me to pull over as he needed to buy fuel for the car. He told me to wait so that he would go and get some cash to buy the fuel. I waited for his return for three hours but he was nowhere to be found, and I was already causing a queue at the filling station.

I called his line several times but it was switched off. It was already dusk so I drove to my residence at almost 8pm. My phone had gone flat then, so I charged it when I got home and called him again. His line was switched off.

“The following day, I drove down to Delta for business. That same day, I saw my picture that he posted on the internet, calling me a car thief. His call also came in and he told me he had informed the police and they were tracking the car. This made me mad at him. It was crazy. I switched off my line known to him and started using my other line.

“My uncle saw me with the car and he asked me about it. I told him how the car came by and he got mad and slapped me. He said he would not allow me to drive the car but would report it at a police station

“I ran from him because he assaulted me. I was eventually arrested in Benin, Edo State. I didn’t steal the car, I only drove it from Abuja to Delta. If I were the car dealer, I would just look for a way to get the car back. That would work,” he said.

The burden of proof lies on the accuser, not the accused. You must proof beyond reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty. That’s why Peter Obi took a container load of evidence to court.
Stop asking people to defend unproven allegations. If the accuser doesn’t provide irrefutable evidence, just ignore and move on.
