Department of State Services (DSS) apprised the public yesterday that it had uncovered a plot to bomb Nigeria’s largest computer market, the Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos.
It named one Chidiebere Onwudiwe, a graduate of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering and local members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as the brains behind the plot.
Onwudiwe has currently been put under arrest. The DSS said in a statement that the suspect was working with foreign and local members of IPOD to perfect the plot.
It also claimed to have uncovered another plot to bomb worship centres and parks during the coming Eid el Fitri festivities. In a statement in Abuja last night, the DSS said its operatives had arrested two suspected members of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) linked to Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo) while making separate plans for the assassination of a Kaduna-based military officer and the bombing of oil and gas pipelines.
In a bid to stem the activities of vandals in the Niger Delta, this Service effected the arrest of Selky Kile TORUGHEDI, on 17th June, 2016, in Calabar, Cross River State. Toruchedi is an ex-militant and suspected member of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), and was arrested for planning to assassinate one MB.Yahaya a serving military officer.
“Toruchedi, who is a close associate of Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), had already conducted surveillance at the residence of Yahaya in Kaduna, preparatory to his plot when he was intercepted.
“He is also fingered as a sponsor of pipeline vandalism in some States in the South-South region. Suspect is currently assisting the Service, with critical leads.
“In a related operation, this Service arrested one Christian Oluba aka Sensor, another suspected militant with the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA). Sensorwas arrested while perfecting plans to carry out explosive attacks on critical oil and gas pipelines, including critical storage points.
“Meanwhile, sequel to increasing threat posed to public peace by the activities of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), this Service arrested one Chidiebere Onwudiwe, a graduate of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering and known member of IPOB, on 22ndJune, 2016.
“Onwudiwe and his associates within and outside the country, were planning to carry out coordinated attacks against religious bodies/edifices, Police-Check Points and the computer village in Ikeja, Lagos State, with Improvised Explosive devices (IEDS). The suspect was apprehended while making logistics supplies for their nefarious plan”
A 52-year-old evangelist, John Arinze, has been nabbed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency over his attempt to export N1.4bn worth of narcotics to South Africa.
The agency said the drugs, made of 92kgs of methamphetamine and 73kgs of ephedrine, were detected inside two containers of foodstuff meant for export to South Africa at the Apapa Seaport in Lagos.
A statement by the NDLEA spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju, on Friday said the suspect, who is a Nigerian based in South Africa, confessed to the crime. He added that sniffer dogs belonging to the agency detected the drugs during screening operation.
The drugs were hidden inside packs of melon concealed in foodstuff and cosmetics such as gari (cassava flakes), noodles, Knorr and Maggi food seasoning, yam powder, malt drinks, pepper, milk, herbal hair cream and Golden Morn cereals.
The statement partly read:
“During examination of the containers marked MSKU 388274-1 and MSKU 424717-0; anti-narcotic officials detected 20kg of Methamphetamine and 50kg of Ephedrine inside the first container. Also, 72Kg of Methamphetamine and 23Kg of Ephedrine were detected in the second container. The total weight of the drugs is 165kg.
“Officers successfully traced the illicit consignment to a fifty-two year old man who claimed to be an evangelist by name John Vincent Arinze who was arrested in his hotel room in Lagos. A Mercedes Benz sport utility vehicle belonging to him was also impounded at the time of arrest. The suspect hails from Ara village, Nise in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. John who had lived in South Africa for over a decade accepted ownership of the illicit shipment.”
The suspect was said to have told the operatives in his statement that he made a “big mistake” by taking over the business of his late wife, who was into drug trafficking.
“I am an evangelist living in Durban South Africa. My late wife was into drug trafficking before she died few years ago. I made a mistake venturing into her business. It is my fault,” he was quoted as saying.

A man who pretended to be disabled so as to beg for money on the street was busted by a passer-by – who refused to be convinced by his tricks.
The “disabled man” had tucked his legs into the back of his boxer shorts, to give the appearance that he had no legs.
He then wore a pair of trousers to cover his hidden limbs and spent the day sitting on a skateboard. But he was nabbed on when another man, who had walked past the ‘disabled beggar ‘, was unconvinced by his act.
The passer-by pulled down the man’s trousers to reveal his hidden limbs to the waiting crowds. When the fraudster realized his cover had been blown, he desperately tried to wheel himself away on his skateboard.
The footage was posted on Live leak.

Her pregnancy first came into the news last year when she was spotted with a baby bump at an event by Farafina Trust in Lagos.
In the new interview, she confirmed that she and her husband Dr. Ivara Esegee had welcomed their daughter weeks ago but decided to keep things as personal as possible.
She said to Financial Times:
This is the first time I’m saying it publicly. I have a little girl. I have some friends who probably don’t know I was pregnant or that I had a baby, I just feel like we live in an age when women are supposed to perform pregnancy. We don’t expect fathers to perform fatherhood. I went into hiding. I wanted it to be as personal as possible.

A motorcyclist, Kazeem Sani, has been set free by a Lagos State High Court sitting in Igbosere, after awaiting trial for 10 years in the Kirikiri Medium Prison.
Sani, 34, who was accused of stealing a mobile phone valued at N18,000, was said to have been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sometime in 2006 when the incident happened before the case was referred to the high court.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the Ore, Ondo State indigene, was freed after the intervention of some officials of the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender.
An official of the OPD, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said no witness showed up for the case during the period, adding that the matter got to the high court in 2013.
He said:
“He was arrested in 2006. However, the matter was filed at the Lagos High Court, Igbosere, on March 27, 2013. That means he spent seven years in custody before his case got to the high court.
“In the three years that the matter was in court, there was no witness. Three suspects were actually arraigned, but the others secured their bail in 2006 when the incident happened. He also didn’t have any legal representative.
“We were just checking on the cases in court when we came across his matter and we decided to stand for him. Even the court was surprised that he had spent 10 years. We asked the court that the matter be struck out for lack of diligent prosecution and the Chief Judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, struck out the matter.”
The official said Sani could not believe he had been set free until he was reassured by court officials to go home. It was learnt that Sani had only been married for one year and his wife was pregnant as of the time of the incident.
Court documents obtained by PUNCH Metro revealed that Sani and two others, Ezekiel Oriyomi and Bashiru Olaide, were arraigned for robbery.
The police, in the three counts, said Sani, and others, on July 7, 2006 dispossessed one Chike of his mobile phone valued at N18,000 at Oluti bus stop, along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos.
But the discharged and acquitted Sani told PUNCH Metro that he did not steal the phone.
He said:
“I am a tailor by craft, but when I saw that my earnings were not sufficient to cater to the need of my wife, whom I just married, I decided to start riding a motorcycle to augment my income.
“While coming from my house at Idi-Iroko, Sango, on July 6, 2006, two men asked me to carry them to Agege. On the way, some officials of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, started flagging me down.
“When I stopped, the two men on my motorcycle jumped down and started to run, but they were quickly arrested. I was also taken to the SARS office at Ikeja.
“I asked them what my crime was and they said I was among the robbers who always snatched people’s bags. I denied and told them my wife was pregnant and I was just looking for my daily bread, but they refused.”
He said the three of them were later arraigned at the Ikeja Magistrate’s Court. He explained that the court admitted them to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum, adding that while the two other defendants met the bail conditions and were released, he could not meet the conditions and was, therefore, detained.
Sani said he was moved to the Kirikiri Medium Prison where he spent 10 years without trial.
“My marriage was barely a year old then. My wife, Amina, was pregnant, and my father, who was aged, lived in Ondo.
“When I saw that my incarceration was affecting my wife, I told her to stop coming to see me and use the little she had to take care of herself and the pregnancy. Her parents also promised to assist me in taking care of the child,” he added.
He explained that the other suspects stopped showing up in court while he was being taken to court without trial. He added that there was no witness in the case and that going to court became a routine.
“I never believed I would be released. I thought it would be the usual routine, until the DPP’s lawyer showed up and pleaded for me.
“Justice Taiwo queried the prosecutor that I had been in custody since 2006 and she (prosecutor) could not even produce any evidence or witness against me. That was how I was set free,” he said.
The Director of the OPD, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi, who spoke through the agency’s spokesman, Adeoba Adeniji-Adele, confirmed the incident, adding that the government planned to reintegrate Sani into the society.

How do you explain reposting a message that says if #whatsapp broadcast is not shared to 10 people, the Whatsapp features will be blocked? And people fall for it! I bet those are the same people who don’t get to read the body of bloggers’ headlines. They just see the title and make up the rest of the story. What kind of mental laziness condenses us to such gullible state? What happened to being discerning? Logical and abunnnna? Popular Nigerian singer, Harrison Tare Okiri, popularly known as Harrysong, and his record label, Five Star Music, owned by multi-millionare business mogul, Emeka Okonkwo a.k.a E-Money and his elder brother Kingsley Okonkwo a.k.a KCee, is reportedly at war.
According to a report on Vanguard, there are indications that all is not well between the musician and his record label following Harrysong’s forthcoming ‘One Delta Concert’ with the singer allegedly investing resources into the project which his record label has strictly warned him to discontinue and concentrate on releasing his much anticipated first ever album under the label.
It was gathered that Harrysong had already pleaded with the management of his label to allow him hold the concert which aimes at sensitizing the youth on the need to shun violence, but they allegedly refused to oblige him.
A source to Vanguard revealed that KCee who is the vice president of Five Star Music, has allegedly threatened that if Harrysong goes ahead with the concert, he will no longer enjoy support from the label.
When contacted on the telephone, KCee’s manager, Soso Soberekon, however denied the rumour, saying; “There is nothing like that. I don’t know what you are talking about.”
A close source to Harrysong refused to speak on the matter, but said; “Harrysong is concentrating on his event and as I speak, he has been busy trying to tighten loose ends.”
‘One Delta’ is described as a Harrysong Peace Concert which is billed to hold on the 31st of July in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The government of Delta State is reportedly happy to be a part of the event and promised to make it a yearly event.
For allegedly refusing to submit their class assignments on the deadline day, a whole class has been subjected to a punishment many believe was too harsh.
The students were marched out of the class and forced to lie on the ground as teachers took turns to spank them with a cane.
