Gina, a UNIPORT student who was shot 5 times and left to die by police men in the guise of accidental discharge during the school’s violent protest earlier this month has now been buried.
She was buried yesterday and her cousin shared pics from the burial along with a heartbreaking note from her wounded and broken mother.
“Yesterday my beautiful daughter was put to rest.. The heaviness in my heart can’t be eased, knowing that no one is taking responsibility of your death. The police killed you and never showed remorse for your death. Nigeria is as messed up as its leaders. May you rest in peace my angel. Your death has paint everything in my life into a different shades of remorse, I keep regretting sending you there, I feel guilty Gina..The sorrow I feel to lose you Gina is the price I have paid to have you in my life, your memories is all I have, which helped me survived the storms and struggles of our daily lives we shared together. I see it from henceforth as my job to mourn you until the day I die. I can’t loose you, you are part of reason for everything in my life. Pls God how can I go through? Till we meet again. RIP Gina my doctor as I always called you. I will always love you my daughter”
Below is an awesome testimony from Pastor Ifeanyi Obi, who recently bagged a PhD after he was told that he will never do well academically in this life.
#MyTestimony
“When I was 8 years old, a Prophet came to my house and after prayers took a look at me and said I will never do well academically and when its time my parents should send me to learn trade. I wept that night because I knew the Vision I saw of myself. My sister Chinyere came to me and said Nna you can be whatever you want to be; I believed her. TODAY I am a graduate of Architecture with Masters and Doctorate(PhD) degree in the same field, which I graduated in both with First Class High Honours. Today am one of the youngest PhD holders in Architectural Construction Technology from Nigeria, maybe the youngest and the only one as I was told. Friends believe in yourself and know you can turn around any negative Prophecy over your life by keying into your Vision. I did it by God’s Grace and I know you can.#MyBirthDayTestimony. The view from the veranda of house No 5, Olalekan Adeoya Street, Off Liasu Road, Ikotun area of Lagos is one that is likely to send shivers down the spine of whoever knew what took place on April 15, 2016 right in front of the building.
Anyone standing on the veranda of the top floor apartment of the Megwa family will be looking directly at the exact spot where 23-year-old twins Elvis and Lewis Megwa were both stabbed.
That is one spot their father, who is in his early 60s, has not been strong enough to direct his sight, days after he lost one of his sons in a tragic attack that put the one who survived in intensive care.
When our correspondent visited the family on Wednesday, the grief-stricken Mr. Emmanuel Megwa shook his friend as he delved into the seemingly harmless confrontation, which degenerated to a brutal attack on his family.
Mr. Megwa, who spoke in an emotion-laden low tone, explained that on that night which turned out to be the worst day of his life, a girl living with him had gone out to buy something in a kiosk which doubles as the security post and petty trading store used by the security guard employed to man the street gate in front of the Megwas’ house.
He said, “My boys – the twins – were standing on the veranda watching the goings on on the street and at the girl walking out of the house around 10.30pm.
“When the girl got to the guard’s kiosk, about three boys, who were standing around the area, started harassing and groping her. She raised the alarm and I had to rush downstairs to challenge the boys, just to make them stop.
“As I rushed downstairs, one of my twin boys followed me. I opened the gate and noticed that the boys were still standing by. I asked them simply why they were harassing the girl and one of them challenged me for asking them such question.
“They started charging towards us, becoming aggressive, so, I pushed my son back. As he was trying to move back, he fell and got up again. At that point, his brother had come downstairs to ask what was happening.”
Late Elvis Megwa
Punch learnt that while this ruckus went on, some of the friends of the three young men came to the scene. Some of them were said to have raced to a nearby bear parlour and picked bottles of beer, which they brought to the scene, ready to do battle with their weapons.
Mr. Megwa told our correspondent that as soon as he saw the men racing out of the street gate in an aggressive manner, he shouted to the street’s gateman to lock the gate, which he failed to do.
Unfortunately, the men came back armed with broken bottles.
“As we retreated, they seemed to be surrounding us and before I knew what was happening, the girl living with me screamed. She shouted that Elvis had been stabbed. At that point, I rushed to my son, who was already bleeding heavily from his neck. Lewis was also stabbed in the shoulder and stomach.
“The girl removed her wrapper and used it to cauterise the gushing blood. I also removed my singlet and added it to it. I was just concerned about the welfare of my children. Even the girl sustained minor stab injury in her stomach.”
Saturday Punch learnt that both Elvis and Lewis were rushed to a nearby hospital where Elvis was pronounced dead.
As of the time of filing this report, Lewis had not been informed that his twin brother was dead.
Mr. Megwa dabbed at his eyes as he started another round of sobbing when he told our correspondent how Lewis asked everybody who visited him in his hospital about his twin.
“Everybody keeps telling him that Lewis is fine and that he would see him soon,” he said.
For the Megwa family, losing such a promising young man at such an age and in such a tragic circumstance is not the only cause of their sorrow.
It was learnt that Elvis was studying Mass Communication at the National Open University.
“The twins are my inspiration. They are so focused that they always told me not to worry that through their own businesses, they would be able to pay their own school fees. They are very entrepreneurial. The only reason they enrolled at the Open University was to be able to undertake their own business,” the grieving father said.
Saturday Punch learnt that the twins were stabbed by one Alex Onuora, who has since fled though the police at the Ikotun division have taken into custody members of his family. Some other suspects involved in the attack have also been arrested.
The deceased’s family explained that the security man who failed to lock the gate of the street during the attack had gone into hiding. They said even though the security rule of the street was that he should have locked the gate by 10pm, he failed to do this, allowing the hoodlums’ incursion into the scene of the attack.
The area where the twins were stabbed had been largely peaceful without the terror of hoodlums until that day.
Mr. Megwa said how such a disagreement could degenerate to the point of such a brutal attack was still a mystery to him.
When Punch visited the home of the Megwas, the sobbing mother of the twins was being consoled by a hoard of women who surrounded her in a room.
The police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the case said the police are still on the trail of the principal suspect in the case.
She said investigation was still ongoing as the police already have in custody some suspects who have vital information about what happened that day.

Timaya returns with a sure-fire hit track featuring fellow A-Lister, Flavour. They title this one – “MONEY” and it’s produced by usual suspect, Young D.
The Lagos Police PRO, Dolapo Badmos, has explained that when the police commissioner, Fatai Owoseni called the duo, Wizkid denied he really wanted to harm Linda.
She said Wizkid explained that his statement that he would send his 16-year-old cousin to beat up Linda, was written out of anger and emotion and there was nothing else to it.
Badmos said although the allegation was criminal in nature, it was resolved through Alternative Dispute resolution ( ADR ). She said when the police invited the parties, they agreed to resolve the matter out of court after Wizkid said he did not mean to threaten her life, rather it was an emotional outburst, with no motive to harm her.
She said the decision to resolve the matter was not because of their status in the society but due to genuine commitment by the parties to resolve the matter.
She explained that ADR is a standard practice in the world applied to resolve crises due to the high rate of conflict all over the world
The maternal instinct of any mother is to ensure that their toddlers do not leave their care at any time unless absolutely necessary. For such mothers, they cannot simply risk anything bad happening to their children when they leave their sight.
But for Busayo Oyeniyi, an Ogun State civil servant in her 30s, her worst nightmare became a reality when her estranged husband, Olugbenga, 37, forcibly took her 28-month-old daughter , Rachael, away from her on Monday, April 18, 2016, and within few hours after, she received the news that the child was dead.
But what could have happened within such a space of time?
This is the mystery that Busayo wants unravelled with diligence as she grieves; she also demands answers to what exactly happened to her daughter who was taken from her hale and hearty.
According to Punch, Busayo revealed that she married Olugbenga legally about three years ago and that since their wedding day, his attitude to her changed.
He had reportedly told her that she must resign or get a transfer from where she worked in Abeokuta and come to Lagos but she said that the transfer had not been possible.
Busayo said, “I was at my apartment on Monday when I heard footsteps while bathing for my baby. I went to check who it was and I found out it was my husband. He put Rachael on his lap and told me to go and change her clothes. I told him that I did not have to do that since I just bathed for her and the clothe she was wearing at the time was okay.
“He said he was leaving with the baby. I was surprised. I thought he was playing. We had never agreed that it was time for the girl to go and live with him.
“Last September, we had a disagreement over his sick younger sister who had been living with me since 2013. He brought her to live with me after we got married. I was taking care of her. After a while, he came to take her back alleging that I was maltreating her when he got an apartment at Egbeda.
“After he got the apartment, he said he was no longer coming to visit me at Abeokuta anymore. He called my landlord and told him to throw me and the children out saying he had concluded with me to leave the house. I told the landlord that it was a lie and we stayed on.
“Since that September, he had been saying that when our daughter was to start school, she must be with him and I said no because I had not been able to do a transfer to Lagos.”
Busayo alleged that her husband never told her about his sister or the fact that she had any particular health challenge before he brought her to live with her after their marriage.
According to her, it was after she gave birth to their first child that the lady, who is about the same age with Busayo, was brought to live with her.
She said, “When he said he wanted to take my daughter to Lagos, I asked him who would take care of her and he said his sister. I told him I could not allow his sister, who was still battling with her health challenge to be in charge of my daughter while I was still alive.
“Meanwhile, I had enrolled my daughter in school since September. He never felt concerned about our upkeep. I paid school fees, clothed my children and paid rents but he never felt concerned.
“Yet, I took it upon myself to come to his place in Lagos every Friday and stay over till Monday. He never asked how I was coping with the children.
“I pleaded with him to change his decision about taking the girl away but he insisted he would not change his stand.
“When he came to forcibly pick the girl on Monday, I went to report at the social welfare office in Agege, Lagos. They said they could not handle the issue because I live in Ogun while my husband lives in Lagos. After that, I proceeded to Egbeda.
“I went inside and found my daughter inside. I told her to wear her slippers and follow me. As I made to go out, he pushed me and the head of the baby on my back hit the door. He said, ‘Are you okay at all?’”
Busayo said that she begged her husband to let the girl go since she was still too young.
She said when he still would not bulge, she called his elder sister, who also tried to prevail on him to let the girl leave with her mother. But Olugbenga allegedly shouted the sister down too.
As the argument raged on, little Rachael was crying.
After a lot of argument, Busayo said she was forced to leave the house without her daughter.
She said she was supposed to go back to Abeokuta that night but it was too late and had to go sleep over at her parents’ house around Ajegunle.
“He came to pick my daughter around 9am in Abeokuta. I got to his place in Lagos and left around 2pm. By 8.30pm in the night, my father received a call,” Busayo said.
That call was one that would devastate Busayo beyond belief.
She said she did not believe her ears when her father started screaming that her daughter had fallen inside a well.
“I started hearing people crying in my parents’ house. My brother went to report at the Idimu Police Division. When they went to arrest him, he said he had also gone to the Gowon Police Division himself to lodge complaints,” Busayo said.
When Busayo eventually got to the station, she alleged that the divisional police officer of the station told her to forget about the issue.
“The DPO said after all, my husband had the right to take his baby away from me. He said it is the father of the child that has the first say over the baby.
“He said we should just go and give our baby a befitting burial and forget about the issue. I have become a mourning woman overnight. Please, help me ask my husband what he did to our child.”
Busayo revealed that her husband said Rachael fell inside the well when he went out to buy bread.
“The police have asked no question on how true that is. The DPO was not concerned about finding out who brought the child out of the well. He did not make any attempt to bring the people in for questioning. Is it wrong for me to ask how my daughter died?” she said.
Olugbenga was neither detained when he was invited by the police, it was learnt.
When contacted, the police public relations officer in the state, Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the case simply said investigation was still ongoing.
Meanwhile, many attempts to get Olugbenga to comment on his wife’s allegations have proved abortive.
When he picked one of the numerous calls placed to his phone by our correspondent, he said, “I am busy, I don’t have time to answer any question.”
When the Gowon Estate DPO, Mr. Festus Otabor, was contacted on the issue, he was effusive with explanation on what happened when the case was brought before him.
Givinga step-by-step detail of the issue from his point of view, he said, “The father of the deceased girl, who is a lecturer, came to report the issue himself. A person that is a university lecturer cannot be a baby. He came in company with other people from the street.
“The man introduced himself and said his daughter fell in a well while they were playing. I asked how old the girl was he said two and half years. I asked about the mother and he said she went to Abeokuta.
“He said when he was called to the scene, he went to rescue the baby and rushed her to the hospital but that she was pronounced dead there. I immediately sent my crime officer to proceed to the street. They got there and saw that the well was well covered up.
“I actually suspected that the well was not well covered up. I thought it was due to the carelessness of the landlord. But the father of the child told me that the baby just mistakenly fell inside. The body of the child was inside the vehicle in the police station at the time.
“The Father of the deceased girl’s mother said the man had been giving his daughter problems before and wanted the marriage dissolved. I told him that in a situation like this, you don’t bring such matter to the station but that we should just ensure that the child is buried.
“The man agreed. I told him he should just allow the soul of the deceased girl to rest in peace. I told them it is not possible for a father to take his own daughter and throw her in a well.”
Otabor said that the family later came to ask for a police extract in order to be able to bury the child.
The DPO said he gave it to them because he wanted peace to reign.
“The father of the girl’s mother wanted us to prosecute the late girl’s father, but I told them we cannot do that because that was not the report that came in. I told them, the issue was about the late girl. I told them if they wanted to find out the cause of death, the police cannot do that. Only an autopsy can.
“The problem is that people usually want us to take action when there is no basis for that. We cannot just take action when there is no doctor’s report that shows there was a violence involved.”

Being a widow can be good for a woman’s health because they suffer less stress after her husband dies, according to new research.Women who have lost a spouse are much less likely to suffer frailty in their twilight years than peers whose partners are still very much alive.
But the same is not the case for men who become more at risk of wasting away once their wife dies – possibly because they have become over reliant on them.
Dr Caterina Trevisan, of the University of Padova, said the presence of a wife may bring benefits for men in terms of household management and healthcare, whereas women are ‘more likely to feel stressed and find their role restrictive and frustrating.
She explained:
‘Since women generally have a longer lifespan than men, married women may also suffer from the effects of caregiver burden, since they often devote themselves to caring for their husband in later life.’
Dr Trevisan said these factors may be behind the lower risk of depression in unmarried women following research revealing women had more marital problems and less wellness in marriage than men.
The same study also found single women experienced less discomfort than bachelors, greater job satisfaction and higher activity levels at work, and a lower risk of social isolation, as they maintained stronger relationships with family or friends.
Dr Trevisan said:
‘Finally, widows cope better than widowers with the stress deriving from the loss of a partner and widowhood, with a significant increase in the risk of depression only in the latter.
Many studies have shown that women are less vulnerable to depression than men in widowhood, probably because they have greater coping resources and are better able to express their emotions.
‘These aspects may help to explain the lower risk of exhaustion seen in single women, who are likewise more socially integrated than single men, and consequently less exposed to frailty.’
It is well known married people generally live longer than their single counterparts, who are said to have a worse diet and drink more alcohol.
Nigerian music mogul, Dbanj has opened up on the state of the artistes he signed to his DB records. He also revealed record labels died after Mo’hits.
Speaking to journalists during MTVBase media hangout, when he was asked if he dropped Tonto Dikeh from his label, he said:
Going back to your question, I had a meeting with my team last year and I told all of them from my producer to singers that they must really work hard in 2016. I lead by example.
I am not using inside resources; I now work with anybody from anywhere. For instance, I never met the producer of ‘Emergency’ before he did the song. A Nigerian that I had never met before also produced the next song I plan to drop soon. I featured a South African on it. I want everyone on the label to follow that direction because I have made up my mind that we cannot continue to do the same thing and expect results.
Though I believe that all my artistes including Tonto Dikeh can stand alone, I feel we should do things differently. If you look at the artistes on the label, you would agree with me that there is something special about them.
Also, when a woman is married, it becomes a different ball game. I have not seen Tonto since her marriage and she has a child right now too. She has been out of the country.
When we spoke, the last thing she told me was that she wanted to concentrate on her foundation before any other thing. Right now, I just want to continue to work with great talents from different places.
On record labels in Nigeria, he says:
There is no point fooling one another; record labels in Nigeria died after Mo’ Hits. I am saying the truth; there is no record label again.
Any artiste that buys a laptop, produces a song and manages to get his uncle to pay for the video could as well call himself a record label owner. A record label must have distribution channels in place.
On Marriage:
Who says I am not married? I am not married but if I want to I would do it secretly. I am tired of people asking me that question; it is my life.
Getting married won’t change my music or anything and I am not trying to get married so as to enter another phase in my life. My wife doesn’ t need fame; my fame is enough for the whole family.

An American Staffie- Great Dane mix dog bit a newborn baby to death in San Diego, police have confirmed.
The three-day-old boy was in bed with his parents who were watching TV when the mother coughed and startled the two-year-old dog called Polo.
It reacted by biting the child, said Sergeant Tu Nguyen of the San Diego police child abuse unit.
“The mom coughed unexpectedly and it startled the dog, which bit the baby, causing traumatic injury,” The parents were able to separate the dog from the baby and they rushed him to the hospital but they were not able to save him,” he said.
The dog was taken into custody by San Diego County Animal Services, officials said. Any dog that bites a person is placed in quarantine by animal control, said Dan DeSousa, deputy director of the agency.
DeSousa said the family can direct animal control to euthanise the dog or they can claim the dog at the end of a 10-day quarantine, but so far the agency has not received any instructions.
If the family do not reclaim Polo, he will be put down.
Social media users have stormed Dabota Lawson’s page for a bit of Friday roasting over a post she made earlier today, showing off a bank alert credit she received this morning to the tune of N3million.
Some of her followers are disappointed that a so called “billionaire’s wife” is excited over a mere N3m bank credit whereas other authentic billionaire wives are rejoicing over bigger amounts “silently” without showing off.
Below are some of the bashful comments she received for her “distasteful” IG bank alert post:
If there is something we have noticed about Wizkid’s career now it is the fact that he takes on personal battles very well and he loves going to war. While at it, like his frequent collaborator, Drake, Wizkid doesn’t take L.
We take a look at 5 battles Wizkid has took on his shoulders and how he came out of it unscratched.
VS DAVIDO
This battle is by far the most prolonged.
The two exchanged words on social media but it is widely believed Wizkid emerged from the battle as the bigger person although Davido got hype from it.
With Wizkid getting a bigger piece of cake from telecom giant Glo, Davido remained with MTN. Davido recently had no where to run to but to sign a deal with Pepsi, a company Wizkid has been representing for many years.
Davido will be hoping to collaborate with Drake in the near future… Wiz has been there

The dream of every woman is to find a man to spend her entire life with. Even the Holy religious books have enjoined men and women, to seek each other out and cohabit as man and wife.
But as beautiful and simple as this may sound, marriage has long gone from being a simple item on a menu, it has become a task, as finding a true life partner has become as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack.
It is particularly more difficult for the womenfolks as they have to be proposed to.
Talented Nollywood actress, Nkiru Sylvanus is still single though not getting younger. The former aide to the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has declared that she wouldn’t mind being a second wife if the need arises.
While speaking on a TV programme, she said: “If the situation and the person is good, I’ll go for it. I’ve said it before that if ladies don’t stop this nonsense they call ‘one-man-one-wife’, many of them will get to 40 and still remain single. There are more women than men. Go to churches, the number of single ladies in most cases is three times the number of single guys”.

A 60-year-old woman, Asabi Adebayo, has been arrested by the police in Oyo State for allegedly buying five babies at N5million from Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.
The suspect, who planned to fly the babies abroad for sale, was said to have brought them to an orphanage in Ibadan to obtain a certified police report for them when the bubble burst.
Commissioner of Police Leye Oyebade, who paraded the suspect and the babies yesterday at the Eleyele Police Headquarters, said the woman would have escaped if not for the patriotic behavior of the officials of the orphanage, who reported the matter at the Iyaganku Police Station.
The suspect, who said she hailed from Lagos State, is also a British citizen.
The ages of the babies, (two boys and three girls) range from two years, eight months, seven months, six months and four months.
The babies have been taken to the Ministry of Women Affairs, Child Welfare; the suspect is assisting the police in their investigation.
The police commissioner said officers, who accompanied the suspect to Port-Harcourt where she claimed to have bought the babies, have not been able to apprehend the sellers.

“Our detectives, led by a Superintendent of Police (SP) from the Juvenile Welfare Section, went to arrest the suspect.
“After her arrest, the suspect told us that she got the children for N5million and that she bought the children from a woman in Port-Harcourt. We travelled with the suspect to Port-Harcourt, unfortunately we could not find the woman.”
Also paraded were three young men- Ganiyu Taiwo (29) a meat seller, Adam Adeleke (20) furniture maker and Ayuba Jubril (19) –who confessed to breaking into a girls’ hostel, stealing phones, laptops and other valuables at Oke-Ogun Poly, Saki, Oyo State.
Others were two robbery suspects- Tunde Adeniyi (32) Aluminum doors dealer and Solomon Ajibesin 22. They were arrested in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
A bricklayer, Femi Adeyemi, a father of three, confessed to robbing his boss of his car. A man, Taiwo Samson, who bought a stolen Range Rover, was also paraded.
Another man, Daramola Adewale, 34, a food stuff seller, was paraded for threatening to post nude pictures of his girlfriend online, if she failed to pay him N50,000.
