A Lance Corporal of the Nigeria Armed Force was reported to be among eight persons who were apprehended by the Inspector General of Police, Special Intelligence Response Team, SIRT, for allegedly supplying arms and ammunition to robbers in Lagos.
Among those the gang allegedly supplied arms were those robbers who raided commercial banks in Lekki, Ikorodu, Festac and Agbara areas of Lagos and Ogun state, where they carted away large sums of money, recently.
According to Vanguard, the suspects were picked up at various locations in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Borno states, respectively, by the SIRT operatives, led by CSP Abba Kyari, and officials of the Defense Intelligence.
Six automatic pump action rifles, a pistol and some cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
Sources close to the SIRT disclosed that the army corporal who was picked up at his duty post in Maiduguri, Borno State, by men of the Defense Intelligence, is currently undergoing interrogations at the Defense Headquarters, Abuja.

The publication also gathered that a member of the gang, who was arrested recently by the SIRT operatives, confessed during, interrogations that his gang received large supplies of arms and ammunition, from the soldier, who was posted to Borno State, to fight the Boko Haram sect .
A source further disclosed, that the soldier, would conceal weapons within food items heading to Lagos from Borno and the robbers who were also involved in pipeline vandalism Pipeline at Ikorodu and Ijegemo areas of Lagos, would credit his bank account upon receiving the weapons.

An elderly dementia patient was shot dead in her care home by her one-armed husband who was staying with her over Christmas.
Rita King, 81, is said to have been gunned down in front of frail residents by her spouse Ronald, 86, who mumbled ‘she has had enough‘ before pulling the trigger.
Daily mail reports that the couple are understood to be childless and the strain of looking after his wife had taken its toll on Mr King.
One neighbour said he simply ‘could not cope‘, while another said he was ‘under great stress‘. Mrs Curtis, who has run the residential home for two years, said: ‘This morning he came towards us with the gun and the woman was shot.’
She put her arm around the man and pleaded for him to drop the weapon.
She said:
‘I put my left arm around him and put his right arm between him and the gun and said ‘please, please give me the gun’, and he let go.’
Mrs Curtis said at first she had not realized the gun was real or if anybody had been injured.
‘He came towards me with the gun, my first thought was that it wasn’t real, but then my next thought was trying to stop him hurting my residents,’ she said.

32 year old vulcaniser, Jelili Dimeji, has reportedly been remanded in prison custody after allegedly leading a 30-man gang to rob his neighbour, Oladipupo Audu, of property valued at N1,750,000.
The suspect and the victim live in Isheri Osun, in the Ijegun area of Lagos. Audu and a friend were driving on Ijegun Road when Dimeji and his gang member, who are still at large, waylaid them, PUNCH reports.
They were said to have snatched Audu’s Toyota Camry, dispossessed him of gold jewellery worth about N1,450,000 and a cash sum of N300,000. The car was later recovered at a junction by policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad.
Audu told the police that the suspect cautioned his cohorts, who wanted to kill him because they (he and Dimeji) live in the same area.
He said:
“My friend and I were going to buy a ram and foodstuffs around 5am on September 24 when we saw some men flagging down my car.
They were about 30 in number. They wanted to kill me, but Jelili (Dimeji) cautioned them and told them we were brothers in the community.
They collected my car, gold necklace, two gold rings a gold bracelet and a sum of N300,000. But the car has been recovered.”

Dimeji was arrested on October 7 by policemen from the Isheri Osun division after a robbery operation and was transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ikeja.
A locally-made gun, phones and two Automated Teller Machine cards were said to have been recovered from him.
He was subsequently arraigned on two counts of robbery by a police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

While most people around the country were enjoying their holidays on boxing day, Saturday, 26th of December, 2015, twin brothers and their friend were shot dead by a trigger happy policeman who also killed himself.
It was also revealed the twin boys were the only children of their mother and they lost their father back in 2014.
Seventy-five-year-old Beatrice Oyesolu, the mother of the twin brothers shot dead by the policeman guarding Paulson Hotel on Anibaba Street, Ketu-Ikosi, Lagos, told Punch the promises her children made to her had been shattered.
The septuagenarian said the children ─ Taiye, a naval officer and Kehinde, an engineer ─ had concluded plans to start building her a house next month before the tragedy struck.
The twin brothers, aged 34, who hailed from Oro, Kwara State, were bachelors.
The drunken policeman, Stephen James, with Force number 217884, had opened fire on the brothers and their friend, Jeje, who was celebrating his birthday on the fateful day.
The trio had cautioned him to stop harassing customers, who reportedly declined to buy him bottles of beer.
James, said to be a drug addict and notorious for shooting sporadically, killed the twins and their friend before he shot himself dead.
It took entreaties from residents around the hotel to stop the angry mob who wanted to set the facility on fire. Sympathisers thronged a house in the community, where the twins’ mother, who lived in Mile 12, was brought to. The sympathisers rallied round her as she cried uncontrollably.
She said:
“I just came back from church yesterday when they broke the news of their death to me. The government should help me because Taiye and Kehinde were the only hope I have. I have been stripped naked because they are my clothes. Who will I turn to now?
“They promised me a lot of things next year. They wanted to start building a house on my parcel of land next month. This is the seventh month after the death of their father.”

A woman slammed her local police force for making her lose her job after she was pulled over for speeding. The lady got an epic reply from the force to her post on Facebook.
Christy Carter claimed a police officer with the Owasso Police Department in Oklahoma victimized her for going 1mph over the speed limit.
She claims the officer who stopped her, insisted on keeping her there for 19 minutes, causing her to miss the start of her shift and lose her job.

In a news release issued this morning, and broadcast on Hip TV, the organizers Smooth Promotions announce that the highly anticipated show will now hold on New Year’s Day Friday, January 1, 2016.
The statement does not give reasons for the push, but suggests the postponement adds another opportunity for the organizers to deliver an event many expect to be truly remarkable.
The event will now coincide with the equally hugely anticipated January 1st concert by Ali Baba. Nigerian Music Video Awards which was to hold on December 17, 2015, was also postponed indefinitely.

On 25th of December, a man and his 3 year old son was involved in a ghastly car crash on A421 near Marston, Bedfordshire, at 11.10 pm.
The accident claimed his life as he was pronounced dead at the scene after a single vehicle collision, while his 3 year old son was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The man’s wife, who was also in the vehicle, survived and is being treated at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, with serious injuries.
Investigating, Bedforshire Police Sergeant Simon Goldsmith said:
‘Any death on the road is tragic but this incident is even more poignant given the day it occurred.
Next of kin have been informed and our specialist family liaison officers are providing support to relatives.’
A young man identified as Anselm Ugwoke killed his father on Christmas Day in Enugu during a heated argument.
The deceased is identified as Paulinus Ugwuoke, 60, from Imilike Agu in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu state.
The spokesman for the Enugu State Police Command who confirmed the incident said the police were on the culprit’s trail.
It was gathered that on December 25, at about 10pm, Anselm Ugwuoke had engaged the father with his friends in a serious exchange of words over a yet to be established issue and later resulted in the alleged hitting of the father with an object which left him unconscious and later was confirmed dead thereby throwing the community into mourning mood.
It was further gathered that having noticed what has happened,Anselm and his friends took to their heels.
A full scale investigations have commenced into the alleged incident while manhunt on Anselm and friends have been intensified Just as the Elder brother to Anselm one Sunday Ugwuoke has expressed grief and surprise over the death of their father as allegedly occasioned by his younger brother and friends.
“I’m still in shock over what has happened but i know that we will still get Anselm” Sunday said.
The body of the deceased is now deposited in a nearby hospital for post mortem examinations.

A teenage girl died on Boxing Day after her dad accidentally shot her in the face with a gun he thought wasn’t loaded.
Kaitlyn Pullam, 17, died two days after her family made the heartbreaking decision to switch off her life support machine on Christmas Eve.
The youngster was shot on December 20 at her home in Ohio. Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs told KFVS news her father thought the gun was not loaded and it went off by mistake.
Cops found Kaitlyn in her bedroom unresponsive and a what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to her face.
She didn’t have a pulse when officers arrived.
Paramedics rushed her to hospital where her heart restarted, but she remained in a coma until her family were forced into their desperate decision on December 24.
Witnesses said the black powder rifle went off and shot her through the wall.
Pastor David Stewart said:
“They [the family] just greatly appreciate everything that people have done. “They’ve have been surprised by the number of people who’ve wanted to be involved and connecting. “They’ve been overwhelmed by the amount and outpouring of generosity.”
Pastor Stewart described Kaitlyn as an intelligent girl who had dreams of working in forensics.
“She had goals, she was driven, she was going to accomplish those,” he said. “In fact, she really had already graduated, but was going to hang out for just one more semester just to walk with everybody else.”
The family plans to donate Kaitlyn’s organs.
