The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a police inspector named Ebri Ubi over the alleged killing of a trader in Asaba, Mr Onyeka Ibe.
This comes after angry youths stormed the state police command headquarter with the corpse of the deceased, whom they claimed was shot dead by the policeman over “N100 bribe”.
The youths blocked a major road in Asaba before carrying the young man’s corpse to the Asaba police headquarters to protest the alleged killing.
Confirming the arrest of the trigger-happy inspector, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Bright Edafe, said he allegedly shot and killed Mr. Ibe while on stop and search duty along Ugbolu-Illah Road in Oshimili North LGA of the state on Wednesday, April 5.
“The Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, psc+, has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of late Mr. Onyeka Ibe, who was reportedly shot dead on the 5/4/2023 at about 0930 hours by an Inspector of Police, one Inspr. Ebri Ubi, while on Stop and Search duty along Ugbolu-Illah Road, Oshimili North LGA, Delta State,” the statement read.
“The Commissioner of Police on receipt of the sad news immediately ordered the arrest and detention of the errant police officer and directed that his transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Asaba where he has further ordered for a thorough and speedy investigation.
“The CP noted that for the Force, being a disciplined organization, will not condone such cruel action by any member of the Force assuring that the offending Officer will be subjected to internal disciplinary measures, including criminal prosecution.
“He therefore appealed to members of the public to remain calm and law abiding, assuring them justice will not just be done but will be seen to have been done.
“The following dedicated phone lines are available to the public to reach the command, as a quick response contact for any complaint or distress situation.

A Nigerian lady, Anita Ofili, who was arrested for allegedly killing her friend in Lagos, has confessed to the crime.
Ofili is alleged to have gruesomely murdered her friend, identified as Glory Okon, in her apartment at Greenville Estate, in the Ajah area of Lagos.
Ofili, while speaking on the reason behind her action, said she waited for ten years to carry out the act as part of a revenge plan.
She claimed her friend, Glory, snatched her boyfriend 10 years ago, and she has been planning revenge ever since.
“Glory and I had been good friends for years, but she betrayed that friendship by snatching my boyfriend.”, she said.
A shout for help from Ofili’s one-room self-contained apartment at 1.20 p.m. on the 26th of March alerted occupants of the building, Vanguard reports.
Occupants of the building reportedly forced the door open, only to discover Ofili thrusting a kitchen knife into Okon’s neck.
Unfortunately, the victim, who was rushed to the General Hospital on Lagos Island, was confirmed dead after she had lost so much blood.
One of the tenants of the building, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said:
“The landlord’s daughter was the one that heard the scream. She peeped through the window and saw a masked person stabbing a lady. She rushed and called her father, who alerted other tenants that forced the door open, only to discover that the masked person was Anita Ofili. The whole room was filled with blood. We discovered that the victim was still breathing. We had to tie Ofili’s legs and hands to prevent her from escaping. Before the arrival of the Police, Ofili did not show any sign of remorse. She said she would explain to the Police what happened. She claimed the lady in question was her friend and that her action was in revenge for what her friend did to her.”
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said;
“At 5.50p.m., on March 26, a resident of Greenville Estate came to the station to report that he heard someone screaming from the room of one Annie Ofili, that himself and other tenants quickly rushed to the room, forced the door opened only to meet Annie on top of Glory Okon, who came to visit her.
Upon the information, a team of detectives moved to the scene. The suspect was arrested, the knife recovered, while the corpse was deposited at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary, Yaba, for autopsy and preservation. The suspect has been transferred to the SCIID, Yaba, for discreet investigation.”

During the hearing on Tuesday, April 4, Blessing Okoro’s lawyer filed a bail application before Justice Tijjani Ringim of the Federal High Court in Lagos on her behalf, which the police did not oppose.
Regarding the bail conditions, the police urged the court to use its discretion, and the judge granted Blessing CEO bail in the absence of opposition.
The court granted her bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum.

Nigerian singer and human rights activist, Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, has spoken on why he uses his songs to address the excesses of the government.
Falz, known for using his music and platform to advocate for social justice issues, recently released a song titled “Yakubu,” calling out the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yabuku over the just concluded elections.
In the song, Vector and Falz assert that the just concluded elections were marred by electoral fraud, manipulation, and violence.
Speaking on the song in an interview with Arise TV, Falz, who joined the program via Skype from the United Kingdom, explained that he was not abroad because he was afraid of confrontation from state actors over the controversial song.
His words,
“I knew that was going to come up when you announced that I was doing this from London. Like I said earlier on, this is not the first time, this is not the second time, this is not the third time.
“I have released tons of records that are very confrontational. And I was on ground. I’m always on ground when I released these records.
“It is not to say that I’m running anywhere. Absolutely not. Everyone know where to find me. If anyone wants to find me. But I have no reason to fear anything. And I always say this when people ask me ‘how do you do these things without any fear of consequences?’
“And this is the same answer that I always give: the kind of life we are living already is one which we are more or less fading away already. It’s not a meaningful life what we have in Nigeria as a country.”
He added that he would rather go down fighting for a just cause than remain silent and die from a failed system.
“What’s the worst that could happen? It’s death. I don’t fear death. I would rather go down fighting for a just cause.
I would rather be remembered as someone that lived a life that was meaningful rather than someone that for example was walking down the road and got run over by a danfo [bus] because he was driving recklessly. Or, someone that got a heart disease and could not save himself because there are no hospitals capable of saving him in Nigeria,” Falz added.
Nigerian rapper, Erigga has voiced concern over the motives behind cheating in relationships.
Taking to the microblogging platform, Twitter, he pointed out that since cheating costs money, he finds it extremely puzzling to see people do it without feeling guilty or worn out.
Erigga called the act a very pointless hobby and even posed the open-ended question of why both men and women participate in it.
He wrote;

Nollywood star, Junior Pope Odonwodo has recounted a moment when a financial emergency caused him to use his wife’s jewelry as collateral.
He shared the story while trying to explain why he would never do anything to bodily or psychologically harm his wife, Jennifer Awele.
The actor claimed that in order to obtain credit from a lender, he used her gold jewelry as security and that event gave him good cause to praise God for providing him with a patient wife.
Junior Pope said;
“Back then it seemed like it wasn’t working, it was not easy at all. I have not mentioned it before but to the glory of God, today let me share this. After I got married, the first year was not rosy; I collected my wife’s gold jewellery and used it to borrow money from aboki.
So, I give Him the glory for giving me a patient wife. Why would I want to touch a woman like this? God forbid. One thing I told myself and God is that the day I lay my hands on my wife, let me run mad. Instead, I walk away.”
The father of three also discussed how they maintain a solid union by never keeping anything from one another.
He added;
“I will give glory to God because, like one of my senior colleagues and directors, Emmanuel Lancelot would say, “if your wife dey behave well na God do am for you, no use am brag or compare another person own.” So, it’s been God, and it also partly has to do with my upbringing. The secret is that I carry my wife along, I share everything, and we do not have anything private.
We touch each other’s phones; you know when a man says my wife doesn’t touch my phone and I don’t touch hers, there is no more transparency in the marriage. There should be trust in marriage; as Chinua Achebe said, “As long as the bed keeps shaking the marriage will last forever.” I told my wife that the only thing that can make me opt out is infidelity. Aside from that, every other thing is workable.”
Nollywood actress,Uche Ogbodo, has urged the man who called out his female friend for threatening to falsely accuse him of rape to forgive her.
Recall that Richard Osita made headlines recently after he revealed that his friend, Bella Nwoko, threatened to accuse him of rape because he turned down her sexual advances and also asked her to refund the money she owes him.

Reacting to Richard’s post, Uche told him to stop being vindictive and to let the matter go because his friend had only threatened to accuse him but had not carried out the plan.

A 20-year-old man, Halifa Hamza has stabbed his elder brother, Usman Hamza to death with scissors in Kano State.
The event reportedly took place on Sunday, April 2, 2023, following a fight between the siblings.
Their father, Alhaji Hamza, claimed in an interview with Freedom Radio that the younger brother’s donning his older brother’s shirt and pants was the real reason for their argument rather than a cat as was rumored.
He said;
“The elder brother that was killed (Usman) collected my motorcycle to go and inform his friends that we had organised Iftar for people so that they could come and eat.
When he came back, he saw his younger brother with his shirt and trousers. He then asked why he did that, and from there a fight started. The younger one entered the house and brought a pair of scissors and stabbed the older brother on his chest and he died there.”
A friend of Halifa, who begged to remain anonymous, claimed that he fled the house as soon as the incident took place.
An investigation is underway, according to SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesman for the state police command, who verified the event to Daily Trust on Wednesday.
The former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has weighed in on the legal troubles of the former deputy Senate president of Nigeria, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who was charged with conspiracy to harvest organs from a 21-year-old Nigerian.
Obasanjo wrote to the Chief Clerk of the Court titled ‘Ike Ekweremadu’ in a letter dated April 3, 2023, saying even though the Senator’s action was condemnable and unacceptable, he had contributed to the socio-political development of Nigeria.
He then urged the British government to temper justice with mercy.
The former president argued that before punishing Ekweremadu and his wife, the UK government should take into account their good acts in the past as well as the predicament of his sick daughter.
In the first conviction for organ trafficking under the Modern Slavery Act in the United Kingdom, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice, and their doctor Obinna Obeta will be sentenced on May 5.
They were found guilty of enabling a 21-year-old street trader from Lagos to journey to London so that he could be used for his organ.
Former Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Ebiede, has been diagnosed with Hepatitis B and is currently being treated in a hospital in Port Harcourt, Rives State.
The retired footballer’s sister, Joy confirmed the news to Punch on Wednesday morning, April 5, 2023, hours after photos of Ebiede with a protruding stomach surfaced on social media.
She disclosed that the 47-year-old former Flying Eagles star was taken to the hospital by his club members last Friday.
“He is in BMH hospital in Port Harcourt but can’t talk properly now. He’s been here (hospital) since Friday, I came in on Saturday from Bayelsa State to look after him,” Joy said.
“His daughter called me that Daddy (Ebiede) was not feeling fine. So, I got here and saw his situation. It was his club members that rushed him to the hospital. Initially, it was malaria and typhoid, but his stomach got swollen.
“He underwent some tests to detect the cause of the swollen stomach. The test results diagnosed Hepatitis B. He’s not stooling freely, so I don’t know if that’s the cause of the swollen stomach.”
Joy, who stated that Ebiede had not worked recently, added that his medical bills has been covered by his benevolent club members.
“His club guys are always coming to the hospital to check on him and pay the bills.” She added.
A video of Nigerian superstar singer, Davido’s encounter with a magician who accurately predicted where he and his wife, Chioma, would be going on vacation next has gone viral.
The video thats currently making the rounds online shows Davido participating in a magic trick where he is asked to think of a location he would like to travel to with his woman.
The magician, Alex Voz, then proceeds to guess the location, writing it on a board before asking Davido to say where he had in mind.
Davido revealed his answer to be South Africa, and the magician finally unveiled what he had written on the board.
Interestingly, what Voz wrote correlated with the music star’s response, leaving Davido screaming in shock and amazement.

The founder of Cash App, Bob Lee, has been stabbed to death by an unknown assailant in San Francisco, California.
The 43-year-old tech mogul was attacked in downtown Rincon Hill neighborhood around 2am on Wednesday morning, April 5.
When police officers arrived the scene, they found a middle-aged men with multiple stab wounds, who was later identified as Bob Lee.
Lee was rushed to a nearby hospital where he gave up the ghost due to the severity of his injuries, San Francisco police revealed.

The victim, who was popularly called ‘Mayor’, was shot dead in his room at the Hall 3 Hostel around 9pm on Monday night, April 3.
The deceased was reportedly in the Department of Public Administration and a Kegite chief, until his death.
A source, who spoke anonymously, said Desmond was shot in the face at point-blank range and didn’t stand a chance of survival.
“The killing of Desmond has caused panic in the school. Students are even afraid to stay in the hostel. He was shot in the face and had no chance to survive the attack.” the student said. Read here
US-based Nigerian dancer and singer, Korra Obidi, has taken to social media to clap back at her ex-husband, Justin Dean, over a comment he made about her new house.
The mother of two recently purchased a $1.6 million home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, and has been updating her fans on her move via her Facebook page.
In a series of posts on her Instagram page, Korra showed off the interior of her new home, expressing gratitude to God for the blessing.
However, Korra’s estranged husband, Justin, noted during an Instagram live session that the dancer bought a condominium and not a luxury home, as her fans are claiming.
He compared Korra’s new home to his rented apartment and schooled his followers on the difference between a condo and a mansion.

The deceased died in a fatal car accident while returning to their homes after paying Shettima a congratulatory visit in Abuja recently.
The son of one of the victims, Ibrahim Abdullahi, who took to Twitter to announce the tragic news, said the accident occurred along Jos-Bauchi Road on April 3, 2023.
