A total of three Nigerians lost their lives in the French southern city of Marseille this past Saturday when a fire broke out in a public housing building where they were squatting.
The victims, reported to be aged 20 to 30, jumped to their death from the windows of the 10-storey building, in an attempt to escape the burning flames.
AFP news agency reports that a two-year-old and an adult were also seriously hurt in the blaze inside the ten-floor building, Marseille public prosecutor, Dominique Laurens, said.
The child was very seriously burned, while nine other people reportedly sustained less serious injuries
Speaking during a press briefing, Laurens said the fire spread quickly through the technical shafts, but did not reach the apartments which are “free of smoke penetration,” suggesting the blaze was started deliberately.
“The existence of two fires, one on the sixth floor, the other in the stairwell” prompted investigators to launch a criminal investigation,” the public prosecutor added.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian community of Marseille accused drug dealers of causing the tragedy.
“The dealers terrify us. They have guns. They prevent us from sleeping,” Azeke Endurance, 30, told AFP.

As for those asking him to “cut soap” for them, he told them to work hard and be consistent.
“Cut soap” is slang used to ask a successful person to give you a bit of what they are using that makes them successful. It originates from the claims that some young fraudsters visit ritualists who give them soap to bathe with for optimal success.”
“If you are in your 20s, work now. I am 46 years. I have done my first half. I don’t know why someone who is just 20 years will say he has not made it when he still has 50 years 60 years ahead.”

“I know I’m a role model. But this should make every person, every kid, anybody around the world believe in their dreams. No matter whatever you feel when you’re down, when you don’t think it’s going to happen for you or you might not make it in your career — might be basketball, might be anything — just believe in what you’re doing and keep working.
“Don’t let nobody tell you what you can be and what you cannot do … Just believe, man. I hope I give people around the world, from Africa, from Europe, hope that it can be done. It can be done.

Now I’m here sitting at the top of the top. I’m extremely blessed. I’m extremely blessed. If I never have a chance to sit on this table ever again, I’m fine with it. I’m fine with it. I hope this can give everybody around the world hope. I want them to believe in their dreams.”

Nollywood Actress, Praiz Sam has written an open letter to Nollywood filmmakers, asking that they stop portraying Igbo men as ritualists.
She asked filmmakers who fall under this category to “glorify the hardworking part of Igbo men” as it is beginning to look like a norm to portray Igbo men as ritualists.
The actress wrote;
A Letter to MY NOLLYWOOD!!
Dear Nollywood, How are you? Hope you’re doing great? A quick one!!
Please ,can we glorify the hardworking part of IGBO MEN, in our movies?? Instead of “RITUALS” alllllllll the time!! I mean, people are beginning to see it as a norm and if you really want to look into it yeah, IGBO MEN IN NIGERIA ARE THE MOST HARDWORKING MEN!!! Yes I said what I said!! With my FULL CHEST!! “Even the ladies”
Let me take you back to the comments about (the #Oba celebration of life ) The comment section was filled with a lot of Negativity!! Wow ! So an Igbo man can’t make clean money again?? I don’t understand it… I have stayed in the midst of them ( they talk about business , 80percent of all the times, always very calculative)… I mean, we (Nollywood) are MINISTERS TOO!! we preach through our movies and subconsciously get into the minds of people !!! So ,I beckon on our writers to please showcase more of “REAL , CLEAN, GROWTH STORIES “ not just for the IGBO MEN! But especially for them, because we kinda gave them this Look, through our movies!!
Ps: I’m not dating any Igbo man oh! Just saying the Bitter truth “THEY WORK VERY HARD, and that part of them DESERVES CLARITY “

On December 10, 2005, Kechi Okwuchi, a 16-year-old high school senior was aboard Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 that crashed, killing 107 people on board. She was one of only two survivors. All of her classmates died, leaving her the lone student survivor.
She survived and she hasn’t stopped telling the story of how her life changed forever.
She emerged a finalist at the twelfth season of America’s Got Talent in 2017 and her popularity has soared through the roof ever since.
However, she still has the scars from the crash, and she wears it proudly.
Kechi recently took to her social media page to share photos of how she was ‘one year after the crash’ and ‘what she looks like right now’.
Sharing the before and after photos, she wrote ;
(Wonder if I should tag this as sensitive content…?) I stumbled upon the picture on the left on my laptop a couple months ago, and i have been contemplating this post since then. I remember I stared at it for a long time that day. Time makes me forget just how extensive my burn injuries were, and how devastating the effects were to my body. I realize this may shock some of you too. The pic on the left was taken a good year after the plane crash and by then, intense scar tissue had formed, esp on my face. I took the pic on the right a few mins ago and made these before/afters, and I marvel at how far God has brought me. I am the result of the hard work of multiple surgeons He brought into my life, nurses, physiotherapists, and love and care from my family, my mom especially. This is what progress looks like, guys. 2 pictures, 14 years apart. I’m grateful that I lived long enough to see it. I decided to make this post so that you guys can marvel at God with me. I want someone who reads this to see that true progress, genuine growth, and lasting change cannot happen overnight. Most of the time during the journey, maybe like me, you won’t notice changes because day by day they’re too minuscule to make a difference. But if you give yourself a fighting chance, if you find the right kind of support on your journey, one day, definitely one day which right now may seem so far away, you will look back like I did this morning and hopefully…you will smile☺️ I heard this in a song and it stuck with me: The night will definitely come. But so will the morning🌤 I never post things like this arbitrarily. As always, please be encouraged.
Plane crash survivor and singer, Kechi, shares her Before/After photos as she marvels over how far God has brought her since the incident.

Started Bolt last week and I got home late on the first day, my wife was fully awake even after I called her around 10pm to go sleep and not wait for me…
I was so touched to meet her awake by 1am, I wanted to cry… Told her not to try it again, she did it again next day. Lol’
