A Nigerian traveller has sparked widespread discussion online after sharing a harrowing account of landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, only to step into what he described as complete darkness.

The video, which he posted online quickly went viral, capturing the moment of confusion and frustration as passengers disembarked and attempted to navigate parts of the airport with no visible power supply.
In the clip, the traveller expressed disbelief that such a major international gateway could be left without functional lighting or an adequate backup system.
According to his account, the blackout occurred shortly after his arrival, leaving both new arrivals and airport staff scrambling in the dark.
He questioned how an airport that serves as one of Africa’s busiest hubs could experience such a lapse in basic infrastructure.
The incident ignited reactions across social media, while some users made light of the situation with jokes, many others condemned the airport authorities, describing the experience as embarrassing and unsafe.
Frequent travellers also voiced concerns, saying the situation illustrates ongoing issues with infrastructure reliability at the airport.
Aviation observers have since weighed in, urging airport management to prioritise dependable power solutions, strengthen contingency measures, and improve communication during emergencies.
They warned that repeated lapses could undermine passenger confidence and damage the airport’s reputation internationally.
