Lady shares emotional story of how a father who sold his shoes to get a JAMB form for his daughter, passed on four months before her graduation.

A lady known as @lydiaonxx on X, has come out to share a story about what “pain” is.

“Pain is your father selling his only dress shoes to pay your JAMB form.”

While it wasn’t clear if it was her story, she personalized it as she went on.

She continues the story with the fact that, the father comes for the child’s matriculation putting on a slippers:

“He’s smiling so wide you almost don’t notice. You notice.”

She goes on to study medicine for six years.

The father calls every Sunday to check up on her, “How is my doctor”, he will always ask.

Fast forward to final year, he father starts coughing.

It goes on for a while and she gets suspicious:

“..you know enough to know its bad. You don’t tell him what you suspect.

you just go home sit with him, watch football you don’t care about.”

He passes on four months to her graduation.

“You collect that certificate and somewhere in the crowd,

your mother is crying and ululating.

And you’re just standing there in that gown thinking;

he sold his shoes.

He never got to see this.

He never got to hear me call him back and say

‘I’m the doctor now'”

The emotional story has stirred another X-user to share her own story in the comment section:

@talk2vee This one is excruciating pain. My dad died few months my sister was called to bar, felt like he was waiting for it. His dream to see her wear that wig and gown, it came to pass cos she became what he wanted to always be. Her call to bar picture was the last group photo.
