An Igbo woman insists that she cannot automatically become a Yoruba woman simply because she got married to a Yoruba man.
In the video which has gone viral on X, the woman can be seen in an argument with her husband and another lady who seemed to be her relative. According to her husband and the lady, since she is married to a Yoruba man, she is automatically a Yoruba woman. In her defense, that only applies to the children they have. It doesn’t sit well with her that she would abandoned her father and mother’s tribe and become another because of marriage.
She asked the man why he married her despite her tribe. The husband and the lady in turn asked why she left her tribesmen to marry a Yoruba man. The lady added that the woman avoided Igbo men because they would have showed her “pepper”. Shocked, the woman calls out the lady for supporting the husband in such an argument…”I am an Igbo girl to the core…why are you f0rcing me?” The husband said he wasn’t f0rcing but telling her who she is.
“I love you okay, ..but you are a Yoruba girl”, her husband said. “I love you too but I am not a Yoruba girl”, she replied. “You see as marriage dey scatter small small?, he added. And she said their is no problem, let it be.
An X-user reacted, saying:
@Urfavydarkgirl This discussion is actually a very sensitive one and it’s a whole lot. She’s a yoruba lady by marriage but that doesn’t change her igbo genes honestly. She’s still igbo weather her husband likes it or not. It’s the child or children she gives him that will be a full Yoruba but I think we’re educated past all of these now. Look at the way she’s claiming her tribe eehn 😂😂 imagine she married an American man now she won’t claim her igbo ooo she’ll say she is American by marriage because she married there. Funny woman.
