“Nigerians living in Nigeria are so entitled to their relatives living abroad” – an abroad-based woman says as she shares how her cousin asked her to send 5M naira for her wedding instead of traveling down to attend the ceremony.

According to the woman, her cousin’s wedding was scheduled for the last week of November in Nigeria, but she and her husband had already planned to visit Nigeria in the second week of December. So she asked her cousin if the wedding date could be adjusted so she would be present at the wedding ceremony. The cousin responded saying that she doesn’t need her to be present. That what she needs was for her and her husband to send across the sum of Five million naira as support.

Shocked by her cousin’s response, she asked why should her money matter if her presence didn’t matter? And her cousin said a lot of people would be attending the wedding and it wouldn’t be good to move the whole wedding just because of her. The woman got upset and ended the call. She went ahead to block her and ignored the calls from the cousin’s mother.

Later, her own mother would call, telling her to unblock her cousin as she didn’t mean it that way. She respectfully told her mother to stay out of the matter because anyone that would defend such level of entitlement would also get blocked by her. According to her the whole family is tagging her reaction as overboard, and she’s wondering what others would have done if they were placed in her shoes.
