Nigerian-American actress and model Adunni Ade shares the kind of impression she gets when people ask her to speak the Yoruba language in public.
Discussing in an interview with Channels Television, the actress stated that she feels upset and embarrassed when she speaks English and people ask her to speak Yoruba instead. It is draining when people demands she interacts to them in Yoruba.
She noted that English is the first language known in Nigeria, thus, the local languages should be kept for reserve. According to her, some speak rudely to her when they want her to speak Yoruba.
Adunni explained that she gets compliments like she doesn’t resembles what she sounds like on many occasions.
She acknowledged her father for bringing her to Nigeria to learn the culture, language and the people’s lifestyle in general.
The actress’ response about people demanding she speaks Yoruba forcefully has ignited lot of speculations online. Many netizens opined she speaks Yoruba in movies but why is it an issue for her to communicate with people in Yoruba.
