Due to the economic stagnation in Ghana, commercial sex workers from Adansi-Obuasi in Ashanti region are pleading with the government to legalise their trade in other to enable them operate freely.

Commercial sex workers at Adansi-Obuasi in the Ashanti region are calling on government to as a matter of urgency legalise the trade in Ghana.

They want government to either provide them alternative jobs or legalise the present trade.

According to them, life has been unbearable considering the current economic conditions in the country.

The commercial sex workers explained that they only sneak to have sexual bouts with their clients in hotels, clubs and other joints.

Prostitution if legalised they stated, will enable them operate freely and not being harassed by security personnel.

They are also promising to vote massively for any presidential candidate that will heed to their concerns.

A representative of the aggrieved sex workers in an interview with Obuasi-based Shaft FM Mama Sweet explained that if government legalises prostitution, it will help them make proper savings adding that monies generated from their night work is not enough due to the time limit.

She promised to vote for the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) if it legalises prostitution.

‘We want government to legalise prostitution by giving us licenses to operate, so that we can work morning, afternoon and evening. Some of us were introduced into prostitution by our friends due to lack of financial support from family members,’ she stated.

    • I think ur assertion might be wrong, u might be living in Ghana, but do u kno what happens every where in Ghana?Again, a specific radio station was mentioned, n unless u want to say u probably work for d radio station or u have a link with those who are making the demands, then hw would u just say it’s a lie just because u live in Ghana? FYI, these our sisters have no shame, even in Nigeria here they openly make demands n even give support to candidates and even our National teams when they play. In some cases, these girls even promise free services if our national team win their football matches, as their own way of celebrating the victory. I picked something from ur comment which I like though, u confirmed that the police wouldn’t let them operate freely- I love that. But these girls are very influential o, when I was arrested some time last year, some of these girls were also brought in later in the night, in spite of the fact that I spoke all the grammar I understood and flashed all the Identity Cards I had, I was made to spend d night as a punching bag for those criminals, but those girls found their ways out. I de respect them o.

    • U could be right though but….Ghana is a small country ND i live in the capital I also read ND listen to news alot this one might have escaped me if it’s true…prostitute are every where cooperative ND none cooperate ones…..I stand to be correct Avah. Chris police will arrest them if they see them. They go on patrol time to time to arrest them especially those that operate at night on the street.

    • Angela Ezire I agree with u. The above news is falls. Cuz we are n the election year and any little thing is been published. Nothing of these sort is happening. Police always arrest them but they also have their way to get out. In as much as am concern the above news is false.

God have mercy!, your daughters are turning to something else,.instead of them to protest to government to provide job for them so that they will stop that dirty business, they want government to legalize prostitution, if men can stop patronizing them,their will be nothing for those prostitutes, I really pity those men, they are in big trouble!, free ticket to STD, Aids, Hiv, Hell!.I will pretend I never see this irritating post this Holly Sunday morning.

    • Zaid Lynx, i really dont want to engage you in argument but view it from this angle, the population of Lagos alone is bigger than the entire population of Ghana and the number of prostitutes in Lagos is far lower than that of Ghana. My friend, every society has ills and i want you to know that the ills in our societies is far lower than the norms but people are more interested in the ills. Finally, on lighter and more realistic note, Nigeria is crawling behind Ghana in the prostitution race.

On the realistic perspective…those countries that did not legalised it..does it mean that its not happen? and most of us ar patronizing them..and even in the countries it is legalized most of una ministers are patronizing them each time they travelled to such countries…the fact that it hasn’t be legalized,does it mean that it is not in practice right now? what’s the difference if it is legalized or not…lets always be realistic..and do away with idealism
