A lady has taken to the media to call out medical doctors who intentionally send patients to take lab tests so they can generate funds for the hospital.
According to the lady, she had been a victim of such a situation. She had consulted the medical doctor over chest pain, and without going through her medical history, told her that the vein that supplies blood to her heart had been blocked by fat, so she needed to go take four “expensive” tests. But after another consultant in the same hospital went through her medical history, he confirmed that her chest pain was due to involuntary muscle contractions caused by her overactive lifestyle. And the only test he would recommend she did was a malaria test. She added that on this same day at the hospital, she noticed that a friend of hers who had visited the hospital was sent to the lab to carry out the same tests.
This got her suspicious, so she consulted with a doctor-friend on the matter. According to him, doctors are required to send patients to the laboratory for tests, with or or without cause. This he add was to generate revenue for the hospital and any doctor who failed to adhere would be queried.
She has tagged this as unfair, as people do not even have money to afford the actual medical care, much more, that which they do not need. She insisted that she is not discouraging people from taking tests to confirm what could be wrong with them, but that those doctors who send them to the lab for tests that they do not need. “God will judge you”, she concluded.
