Mr Woodberry hires top Chicago lawyer, Michael Nash

Alleged fraudster, Olalekan Ponle, better known as Mr. Woodberry, who was apprehended alongside socialite Hushpuppi, has reportedly hired the services of a top rated Chicago lawyer, Michael Nash, to defend him in court.

Woodberry, 29, who is currently being held in the United States, was arrested in the United Arab Emirate on June 10 for multiple fraud charges after a raid by operatives of the Dubai crime unit.

According to a report by Premium Times, Mr Nash signed the Attorney Appearance Form for Woodberry on July 8.

Mr Nash whose area of specialisation is Criminal Defense, has been practising for over 55 years — he was admitted to practice law in 1965 after graduating from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

As profiled by Super Lawyers, a platform that provides details of top U.S. lawyers, he also assists clients regarding Appellate issues.

On Thursday, Mr Nash is saddled with the task of securing Woodberry’s bail. If found guilty, the alleged might be liable to a jail term ranging from 20-30 years.

Woodberry and Hushpuppi were extradited to the United States on July 2. Woodberry is currently facing charges bordering on wire fraud Conspiracy at a United States District Court sitting in Illinois.

His first appearance in court was on July 3, after which the preliminary hearing was set for July 16 before Judge Jeffrey T Gilbert.

However, as provided by a section of the U.S. laws on the release or detention of a defendant pending trial, Woodberry will be remanded in the custody of the U.S. Marshal until further order of the Court.

14-year-old pregnant girl commits suicide in Nasarawa (Photo)

A 14-year-old girl, identified as Anita Haledu Ibrahim, pictured, reportedly committed suicide over an unwanted pregnancy.

According to a report by The Nation, Anita, who was a student of Government Science school Andaha near Akwanga, took herbicide to kill herself on Saturday, July 11.

Sources claim that Anita was impregnated by her boyfriend who she met in Andaha during the COVID-19 lockdown. They became intimate and she got pregnant.

Anita informed him she was pregnant with their child and he initially fled the village to Abuja but after her parents made contacts with him, he accepted the pregnancy and also showed interest to marry her.

Anita however decided to take her life after her father, Haledu Ibrahim, beat her up over the pregnancy. She took the herbicide on Saturday and was immediately rushed to a hospital in Akwanga where she died in the early hours of today July 14.

Her family members are currently preparing for her funeral.

Young Girl commits suicide over incessant fights with brother in Lagos

A 20-year-old girl identified as Sherifat Suleiman has reportedly committed suicide over incessant fights with her brother.

The sad event occurred at about 4pm on Sunday July 12, in Isawo area of Ikorodu, Lagos state. It was gathered that the deceased who lived in a two-room apartment with her brother,

The young lady who before her death, was preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), reportedly began writhing in pain after ingesting a poisonous substance she bought. Sherifat died while she was being rushed to the hospital

The residents of the area reportedly said the girl decided to commit suicide when she could no longer withstand the physical and psychological assault by her brother she started living with after the death of their father. Upon examining her body, her neighbours noticed bruises on her legs and laps.

Vanguard reported Her corpse was wrapped up by her step-brother who subsequently travelled down to their home town in Ijebu area of Ogun State, for her burial.

Nigerian woman welcomes 2nd baby 21 days after delivering 1st one (video)

Popular Nigerian comedian, Princess has shared a story of how a Nigerian man and his wife welcomed 2nd baby 21 days after delivering 1st one.

In the video shared on Princess’ page, the lucky new father recounted the experience.

According to the man identified as David Bankole, he got married to his wife in 2003 and they did not have children of their own till February 2019 when they welcomed their first baby girl.

Bankole explained that his wife got pregnant again and welcomed another baby on June 19, 2020. However, that was when something strange happened. The young man’s wife had complained of feeling a funny movement in her stomach.

Her worries were initially dismissed but they had to go to the hospital to check after the complaint became incessant. While at the hospital, another scan was done and it was discovered that there was another child in the woman’s belly. Lo and behold, Bankole’s wife welcomed another baby on July 10, 2020, exactly 21 days after having the first child.

The proud new father said that the initial scan they had done showed only one baby and that their situation surprised many of those at the hospital. He also said that both their babies were born through natural birth.

Lady marries fiance in the hospital despite his involvement in an accident days to their wedding

A young couple in Burundi’s northern city of Kirundo, Burundi took a lot of people by surprise by proceeding with their wedding plans despite the groom being involved in a serious accident three days prior.

Charlotte Mukantwari wedded Gabin Ndayizigiye at the hospital where he was being treated following a motorcycle accident on the 30th of June.

Charlotte has been at his bedside since the accident occurred and both decided to hold the ceremony on 4th of July as they had planned.

Despite the priest telling Ms Mukantwari to dress down, in what he expected to be a low-key event, she showed up wearing a wedding dress.

“‘I’ve been waiting for that date, facing that challenge was like facing the devils’ temptation, I couldn’t imagine my life after missing it,” Ms Mukantwari told the BBC Gahuza service.

Curious locals also thronged the hospital building, where the ceremony was being held, to witness the ceremony. Mr Ndayizigiye said he was touched by his wife’s insistence to proceed with the wedding despite not knowing whether he would be able to walk again.

He made a brief appearance to take his marriage vows and was then rushed back to his hospital bed.

Two Nigerians arrested for trafficking 39 Nigerians to Ghana for cybercrime

At least 39 Nigerian victims of human trafficking have been rescued with two suspects —Paul Okafor and Duru Favour— who are also Nigerians, arrested by the police in Ghana’s Central Region.

A statement from the Central Region Police Command reads,

“On July 12, 2020, upon information received from an informant, the Winneba District Police Commander dispatched a Police Patrol team to Gomoa Pomadze where they met 3 Ghanaians in the company of a 21-year-old Nigerian, Charles Ikorohk.

Charles told the team that he arrived into the country from Nigeria to visit a friend but couldn’t trace him and got stranded.”

DSP Irene Oppong, the Central Regional Police Spokesperson, revealed that Charles told the team that he met one Uzo at the Kwame Nkrumah interchange area who later introduced him to a Nigerian, Arisuezo, who kept him in a walled house together with other young Nigerians who were locked up in a room, prevented from leaving the compound and subjected to other inhuman treatment as well as engaging in cybercrime.

He however managed to escape on 12/7/20 when he was asked to weed the compound of the house and their supervisors went out with one of the victims to a Mobile money vendor to withdraw cash fraudulently received.

DSP Irene Oppong indicated that the victims were brought in by their masters from Nigeria to engage in cybercrimes and were given targets to reach but were abused if they fail to meet their target.

She added that one of the suspects, Michael Arisuezo, is currently on the run calling on the general public to provide information leading to his arrest.

The Regional Police Command explained that 36 laptops were also retrieved from the house while the owner of the house where the Nigerians were kept is on police enquiry bail.

The 39 victims have been handed over to the Central Regional Anti Human Trafficking Unit and are currently kept at a shelter centre.

60-year-old allegedly rapes eight year old girl after luring her with N100

The Niger state police command apprehended a 60-year-old man identified as one Haruna Lawal, for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in the Wushishi community in the state.

A statement from the spokesperson of the state police command, Wasiu Abiodun, stated that Haruna, a scavenger, spotted the little girl while she was hawking fish in the area.

He allegedly offered her a N100 note and then took her into an uncompleted building where he had canal knowledge of her.

Wasiu said during interrogation, Haruna confessed to the crime and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.

In other related news, a teenager who was gang-raped by 4 men after she moved to Lagos in search of greener pastures tested positive for COVID-19.

16-year-old Aishat, an Oyo state indigene, became pregnant after she was gang-raped by four men when she took shelter in a bus at a motor park in Ijesha, Surulere.

EFCC urges court to deny popular Instagram socialite, Adeherself bail

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has urged an Ikeja Special Offences Court to deny popular Instagram socialite, Adedamola “Adeherself” Adewale bail.

Lead prosecuting counsel for the anti-graft agency, Mr. Samuel Daji made the plea on Monday, July 13, during Adewale’s bail hearing on a charge of possession of fraudulent documents.

“I urge the court to refuse the bail of the defendant and order accelerated hearing,” Daji said.

Before the bail hearing, the defence counsel, Mr. Tunde Salami had applied to the court to grant bail on liberal terms to Adewale who had been remanded in EFCC’s custody since 7th of July.

Following the submissions of the defence and prosecuting counsel, Justice Sherifat Solebo adjourned the case till Wednesday, July 15, for ruling on the bail application.

Adeherself was arrested last month following intelligence received by the Commission on the activities of some young men allegedly involved in internet fraud in the Lekki axis of Lagos State.

She was recently arraigned on a one-count charge of possession of fraudulent documents.

The Coronavirus Pandemic Is Accelerating And Getting Worse – WHO Warns

WHO, director-general, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and World Health Organisation has warned that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is “accelerating and getting worse” as lockdown measures are being relaxed in several countries in the world.

He said the Coronavirus cases were increasing drastically, with almost 12million confirmed infections since the pandemic first began in China back in December.

Speaking at the member state briefing on the Covid-19 pandemic evaluation, he said:

“The virus has upended health systems in some of the world’s wealthiest nations, while some countries that have mounted a successful response have been of modest means.

“We know that when countries take a comprehensive approach based on fundamental public health measures such as find, isolate, test and treat cases, and trace and quarantine contacts, the outbreak can be brought under control.

“But in most of the world, the virus is not under control. It is getting worse.

“More than 11.8 million cases of Covid-19 have now been reported to WHO. More than 544,000 lives have been lost.

“And the pandemic is still accelerating. The total number of cases has doubled in the last six weeks.”

The backbone of this family, a prayer warrior with the most beautiful soul. The life of the party, the grandma everybody wanted as their own, some peoples living angel. . . Veteran comic Nollywood actor, John Okafor better known as Mr. Ibu has given his fans quite a scare following a recent photo of him which emerged on the internet.

The popular funny actor has always been known for his potbelly, but in the recent photo that was shared, his potbelly looked way larger than the way it had always seem to be.

The actor basically looks like someone carrying a child or three as his belly has become way too big and Nigerians have taken to social media to express their concern for the actor, saying such huge stomach usually comes with lots of complicated problems.

Revealed: Hushpuppi pays N4.5m monthly rent in Dubai

Alleged Nigerian fraudster, Ramon Abbas A.K.A Hushpuppi is reported to have been denied bail in the United States in spite of his lawyer, Gal Pissetzky insisting that his job as an Instagram celebrity pays for his expenditures.

Hushpuppi’s lawyers, in his defense, revealed that his job as an Instagram socialite is what pays for his $10,000 monthly rent on his luxury Dubai flat. They had applied for him to leave jail with an electronic tag and live with the uncle of a woman with whom he has a child with, but US prosecutors opposed the bail application.

His lawyers said,

“He is loved and respected. He is a celebrity.

“I don’t see the reason why he would want to ruin his credibility in the world and his status rather than stay here and face this allegation.

“Anywhere he goes, people will know. Having grown up very poor in Nigeria, Mr Abbas is now paid to pose with high-priced items such as Louis Vuitton bags that people would buy after seeing his posts on Instagram.

“He is an influencer. That’s a job today, as much as it is hard to imagine. That’s a full-time job.”

Popular Nollywood actress, Judith Nneji, has said flaunting ones’s endowment on social media can attract the wrong set of people rapists.

She made this known during a recent chat with Vanguard Potpourri, where she said the social media trend of flaunting one’s endowment on social media is wrong, as it can attract the wrong set of people like rapist.

Judith Said:

“Being sexy should be a thing between a man and his woman in private.

It is wrong for a woman to flaunt her endowment because it can attract the wrong set of people like rapists.”

Judith also gave her opinion on sex, marriage and relationship, stating that sex should be sacred and treated as such.

She said;

“Sex is meant to be sacred. Youths of our days should avoid premarital sex. Marriage is a legal relationship ordained by God and should be respected by both parties. Relationship, There should be a courtship before marriage so that both parties can understand each other better before marriage.”
