Female police officer accused of dousing 13-year-year-old niece with hot water in Rivers state (Photos)

A female Police Inspector with the Rivers State Command has reportedly been accused of subjecting her 13-year-old niece to various forms of abuse.

Head of Child’s Right and Rehabilitation Network, CRARN, Sam Itauma who disclosed this on Wednesday, said the police officer, one Inspector Christy Inyang Victor tortures the girl at the slightest provocation and in a more recent incident, doused her with hot water, stripped her naked and forced her to sleep outside at night.

Itauma who took to Facebook to share photo of the alleged victim, wrote,

We have persistently received a barrage of reports about a police officer by name Inspector Christy Inyang Victor in Ahoda Town of Rivers State who continually subjects her 13 years old niece by name Rita to a string of torture and various forms of abuses.

In this particular case, she stripped the girl naked, forced her to sleep outside as she usually does, in the wee hours of the night and bathed her with hot water after she severely battered her.

The case was reported to Divisional Police in Amoku, Rivers State where she serves but no action was taken. Instead, without minding the grievous injuries and burns she inflected on the little girl, she has continued to brutalize her at the slightest provocation.

She stopped Rita from going to school after she sat for her Junior Secondary 3 exams in 2019, albeit passing with flying colors.

In order to safe the life of this little girl, we call on the Rivers State Commoner of Police to order a full blown investigation of the matter and take appropriate action.

Pastors who collect tithes and offerings online during lockdown are high class scammers – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian Dancehall star, Shatta has called out Pastors who collect tithes and offerings online during lockdown, tagging them, ‘Scammers’.

The quite outspoken musician described these present-day pastors as sophisticated scammers. In an interview on 4 Syte TV on April 7, 2020, Shatta Wale jabbed pastors who have failed to reach out to their members in these difficult times to portray the love they preach.

He noted that he cannot understand why pastors would still be asking their members for tithe and offering during this time of coronavirus which has compelled the government to impose a partial lockdown.

Shatta Wale reiterated the concerns of many when he said that people have paid offerings to the church for so many years so this is the time for the church to also give back to its members but they have rather set-up online platforms to rip them off even more.

”We are in a period where I don’t think pastors should even try that. Your members come to church and they give collection, now there is a problem. The collections they gave like for the past 30 years, where are those collections?” he quizzed.

He suggested that these men of God can at least use some of the monies collected over the years to buy some food items for their members to help them cope amid the partial lockdown.

”Coronavirus is killing your church members, some of your church members don’t even have cars, some don’t have houses…they rent and you’re still collecting tithes online?.”

Shatta Wale described pastors who have failed to express this gesture physically as sophisticated scammers. ”These are scammers like hard sakawa guys and that’s why some people like Kennedy Agyapong will get pissed and start bombarding them. As a man of God, don’t you have pity?.”

“How God used Don Jazzy for me after I paid my tithes” – Rema reveals

Sensational Nigerian music artiste, Divine Ikubor popularly referred to by his stage name, Rema has in a recent interview revealed that God used Don Jazzy for him to become what he is today.

According to him, he is a tither and being one, he believes is what made God use his record label boss, Don Jazzy intervene in his musical career.

Rema, who was asked how he became big in less than 6 months as all his songs became hits, said in a chat with Precious Pomaa of City People,

“Yeah, I actually expected it because I worked really hard for it, having sleepless nights, prayed, gave my seeds, tithes and left the rest for the lord which gave him no other option to bless me.

It is actually spiritual how I found myself in the midst of Don Jazzy and everybody in a blink of an eye, everything worked very fast for me. I wouldn’t say I expected it no more but everything that came to me I deserve it, I am really not the kind of guy that like to post on Instagram, the only thing people see about me is my music and my studio section or repost but a lot is happening behind the screen, a lot of tears, sweat and a load of blood.

But people tend to believe that we over hype, but it’s not over hyping because it’s really happening while some people where sleeping, I was on the road every single night.”

Asked about his relationship status, Rema said,

“My home is actually my peace, basically, I find my own peace either in church or home. My own personal space, but yeah! It will be nice to find someone I can share it with, but then, I have not found the right one.”

Terrified mum narrates her 12-week-old daughter’s fight for life against Coronavirus

Terrified mum narrates

A 27 year old mum has narrated the ordeal her 12 week old baby girl had to pass through while fighting Coronavirus.

Baby, Winter-Rose Watson, was rushed to hospital on Friday by her single mum, Jade Watson, 27, after she struggled to breathe and developed a temperature of 39.1C.

The baby tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus when taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital, in Lancashire, UK.

Jade, 27, from Burnley, said: “It was the worst experience of my entire life, I was so scared.

“To see my baby struggling like that was so painful, I couldn’t believe what was happening. I’m so grateful she was able to pull through.”

“On Thursday she had a really bad temperature, it was about 38.5 degrees.

“So I contacted 111 and they advised me to stay at home.

“But at about 5am on Friday I’d set my alarm to check on her and she’d got really warm, even more than she was before.

“I didn’t even need to touch her, there was heat just coming off her. She was gasping for breath.

“I called for an ambulance but it took around three hours to get here. Her temperature had gone down slightly but it was still 39.1.”

“On Saturday morning the doctor came and told me she had tested positive for coronavirus.

“It was the worst thing in the world to hear.

“She was on a drip to try to get her fluids back up but there was nothing else they could do to help her fight it.”

After treatment by medical staff, Winter returned to her home on Monday and is recuperating.

Jade said: “She’s still got the virus and I don’t know if I’ve had it or not, as the only symptom I had was a headache that wouldn’t go away, even after taking headache pills.

“My son was with me a couple of days before Winter went into hospital, but now he has to isolate with his dad at his home as we don’t know if he could have it too.

“It’s been such a difficult time as I’ve not been able to have anyone come and visit. Even when I was in the hospital I was on my own, it was hard.

“There’s been talk of this virus not affecting babies the same way as others, but it does, and it has affected Winter so much. I had never seen her looking so helpless.

“I’d only been out of the house really to go to Lidl and Home Bargains but people need to listen to the advice, and stay indoors.”

“It’s terrible practice to make your son’s girlfriend cook a meal for your family especially on her first visit to yours. Is that how you people welcome people to your homes?”

4,500 Nigerian musicians to get N11,000 each as Coronavirus relief fund from COSON

Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) has announced the disbursement of a N50 million financial relief package for all Nigerian artistes as the nation continues its fight with the Coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement released by the society, President of the association, Tony Okoroji, stated that from the genesis of the pandemic in the country and eventual lockdown of some states, himself and other board members have received calls from many artistes who are desperate for any kind of assistance as they have been affected by the pandemic and the current lockdown which has also stopped entertainment activities across the country.

Okoroji said the orgaization’s board has therefore approved the release of 50 Million Naira to be shared amongst about 4,500 members on the society’s register as at May 19th, 2019 as an Anti-Corona Emergency Relief Distribution from COSON. Each member is to receive N11,000.

“I have personally received calls from several members of COSON who are desperate for immediate assistance of any kind. Other members of our Board have received similar messages. At a time like this, COSON must be responsible and responsive to the needs of our members and we should do everything we can to help them wade through these hard times. That is the very reason why COSON was set up.

I am proud of the quick response of members of the COSON Board who showed great understanding that we must be our brothers’ keeper at a time like this.

Starting immediately, with the co-operation of the banks, each qualified member of COSON will receive a modest sum of eleven thousand naira in what we have termed Anti-Coronavirus Emergency Relief (ACER) General Distribution. We are able to do this because of the deft management of our resources. We wish we could do more. I however believe that most people are aware of what we have been through in recent times. Let me thank the COSON management team of Vincent Adawaisi, Isa Aruna and Anthony Imuse who burnt the midnight oil to ensure that the decision of the Board is executed with dispatch” he said

On outstanding Specific Distributions, the COSON Chairman said,

“Every member of the Board is very eager that all outstanding specific distributions should be paid without any delay. The issue was prominent in our discussions on the emergency relief distribution. While the Board and the General Assembly have approved the specific distributions, it is common knowledge that COSON funds in two banks are frozen. The money for the specific distributions is domiciled in the frozen accounts. The money is safe. Not one Naira is missing.

It is also common knowledge that we have gone to court to have the accounts unfrozen and immediately that happens, the money will be paid. In any case, all those entitled to Specific distribution will also receive the Anti-Coronavirus Emergency Relief (ACER) General Distribution.

It is unfortunate that it is some of our colleagues that requested the banks to freeze the accounts which has brought this suffering to innocent COSON members and even to those who took the action. That is why we need to be very careful about what we say and what we do.

I hope that we will use this very challenging period to think deeply. We have built COSON to be there for musicians through thick and thin. We work hard to ensure that COSON takes care of musicians while they are alive and celebrates them even in death. Has anyone forgotten how in an unprecedented manner we buried the late Ras Kimono like a king?

Said the COSON Chairman, “Some people may think that because things are going well for them today, they will never need COSON. I have been in the industry long enough to know that the day will come when each of us needs an institution like COSON. When I hear people in our industry call on government to clamp down on COSON or that those who owe us money should not pay us, I ask why anyone would choose to urinate into a well from which he might soon draw water to drink when he is desperately thirsty”

Chief Okoroji concluded,

“I know that I cannot please everyone but I am working hard every day to lift up the musicians of Nigeria, promote and defend our industry and provide visible solutions to the problems of each of us. I have absolutely no interest in the cantankerous name calling and rabid character assassination which many appear to dwell in and which do not provide even one
cup of garri for any Nigerian artiste or one cube of Maggifor his pot of soup”.

“I went online, there was a pandemic 100 years ago, let me go and study it and check it out, because the interpretation that people are giving to this pandemic, they range from one extreme to the other,” Adeyemi said.

“I don’t even want to go into the details now, but there’s quarrel on social media now; from 5G to 10G and other things. I decided to check, how did it affect Nigeria?

“I found a research article by a history lecturer at the University at Birnin Kebbi. Beautiful research!”

“I had to buy it. But I was happy buying it, because when I read it, it was amazing, it dug into the British archives, all the records that the colonial officers kept.

“[In] 1918 September, when the thing hit, the way air travel now is the main thing for global transportation and it was air travel that moved the coronavirus around, it was sea travel that spread the influenza around then.

“The ships that brought sick people into the Lagos port; I got the names, the dates they arrived, how it spread in Nigeria.

“I’d tell you the one that I saw and almost screamed, they closed churches, they closed mosques, they shut down schools, they shut down markets. 1918. So, some of us now think it is the anti-christ that is at work, he does not want us to gather together and fellowship.

“We should just be thanking God that we have internet now and we can be relating without meeting together. They shut churches in 1918. So when the leader takes perspective like that, then you can calm people down and tell them there will be life after this thing.”

Adeyemi concluded that though there are opportunities in every crisis, it is a leader’s duty to see the opportunities and not to project fear on his/her followers.

A veterinary doctor has warned people that pets like cats and dogs could help pass Coronavirus between humans even though the chances of that happening are very slim.

The Vet doctor was responding to concerns about whether humans can catch Coronavirus from their pets.

A tiger at a New York City zoo tested positive for Coronavirus in what is believed to be the first known Covid-19 case in a US animal or tiger and transmitted it to other six other lions and tigers in the zoo. Scientists say pets can’t transmit the virus to humans but a vet doctor Dr Scott Miller says he believes pets can transfer the virus using their fur.

Dr Scott speaking on British daytime TV programme ‘This Morning’ with TV Host Philip Scoffield said: ‘So at the moment we don’t believe that cats can, or any animal, pass it back to us from the initial infection.

‘Now we don’t believe at all that dogs or cats can transmit it back to us as an infected host. ‘What we are concerned about is that they may be able to act as a surface – so if someone with Covid-19 coughs on their dog and then takes it for a walk, then you pet their dog and then touch your face, you could potentially pick up Covid-19 that way – although the chances are very very low.’

Dr Scott added: ‘This case with the tiger – there’s also been one reflected in a domestic cat in Belgium – where that cat did actually did show some coronavirus symptoms, i.e. had respiratory symptoms and had diarrhoea.

‘Its owner did have coronavirus, both were tested and proven to have a positive result, but they have both since recovered. ‘There is some concern and that is something very much that the veterinary profession will be watching, but it all boils down really to just good hygiene, and don’t touch other people’s pets at this time.’

Pilots arrested for flying expatriates into Rivers State

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday 7th of April, 2020 led some security operatives to the operational base of Caverton Helicopters in Port Harcourt, to effect some arrests over the violation of movement restriction put in place to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

Pilots arrested

The governor demanded for the Caverton’s pilots to be interrogated on why they flew expatriates into the state and ordered the company to produce all passengers they brought into the state.

Pilots arrested

The Governor was said to express fear over the fact that the identities of the expatriates were unknown and demanded that the company fish them out to verify their medical status.

Wike had signed an executive order closing all land, air and sea borders as part of his numerous measures to contain the spread of the pandemic.
