Nigerian lady commits suicide months after writing about depression and suicide

A Nigerian lady has reportedly committed suicide 11 months after writing about “depression and suicide”.

Facebook user, Adeleke Rachel Tioluwani had earlier disclosed that she was facing lots of challenges which pushed her into depression and suicide.

It was gathered that before her death, Rachel who was in psychological pain and had no father-figure in her life, was practically nursing and taking care of her mum, self-sponsoring her schooling with virtually no assistance from anywhere.”

A friend of the deceased, Tayo Fasuan who took to his page to mourn the loss, wrote;

A Tribute to Adeleke Rachel Tioluwani

At the height of my intense pain and sadness yesterday, I snapped, and started feeling a sense of errie calmness resulting from resignation about Tolu’s demise. I’m still hoping this is a bad joke though, and she came would come to say this is her own version of April Fool. But also, I hope with this post, I would be able to exorcise all the pains I’m feeling and dwell on happy memories I have of her.

Tolu had always been an enigma, and despite our relationship from just last year, we didn’t even meet for once. She approached me for mentorship for fiction writing, and I told her she didn’t need my help since she was already so good in expressing herself through written poems. She had ways with words, and she was meant for greatness with an imaginative mind that would rival anyone’s.

We started working together eventually, becoming perhaps the first official member of FictionWrit Magazine. However, few weeks into working with her, I realised she was troubled. At first, I thought it was financial after talking with her, and I told her I will be sending upkeep money to her when she explained her issue with schooling. She rejected that, and I had to convince her that I would be paying for her writings instead. That seemed acceptable with her, and we proceeded.

Weeks later, she had another issue. She was having issues with her boss, the founder of a writer community. It was a messy affair, and in my attempts to help her resolve it, I realised she was a ticking time bomb, walking all over eggs all her life. She was still very secretive, refusing to open up completely, but she let me in enough to catch a glimpse of the hell she was going through. At that young age of hers, she was going through what she shouldn’t be going through. With no father figure in her life, and she practically nursing/taking care of her mum, self-sponsoring her schooling with virtually no assistance from anywhere, she was in perpetual psychological pain.

I offered that she should consider change of location, and I even offered her a place to stay in Ekiti to start over again, promising to fund most of her expenses. She refused, insisting she couldn’t leave her mum. I offered other places for her to stay in Lagos, but for reasons I won’t divulge here, she still couldn’t take those offer. We reached an agreement eventually concerning work, funding and how to handle issues.

Few months into that agreement, she disappeared completely. Her phone was off, she wasn’t responding to her WhatsApp, and her Facebook was deactivated. I became exasperated after trying so much, fearing the worse and hoping for the best. After a while, I gave up. Late last year, she got across to me briefly to tell me she was okay, but before I could got a hold of her again, she disappeared. And I let her be again, hoping she would get back to me when she is fine.

I went through her walls last week, and I was shocked with the dark words there. Her writings have always, always carried a dark theme, as I had encouraged her to pour her emotions on paper through her ink as most of us writers do when we are going through hard times. This was different though. On reaching her WhatsApp status, I saw other ones, so I got across, knowing she was back on WhatsApp.

Our conversation revolved around coming back to writing and continuation of her education, having concluded OND last year. I told her we should consider her crossing to a degree program because of the problem with HND. We fell right back into smooth conversation, and she promised to even started writing, to get back to me on an offer I gave her. I thought she was over the worst, but I was so careless I couldn’t see beyond that definite goodnight she sent me.

I’m hurting right now not really because of her death, but because even till her final moments, she would be full of optimism. She was full of life. Of course, people are saying that’s the usual way suicidal people act, but I still can’t swallow that theory. She was a fighter, an incredible bullish one concerning life. She was a sweet one.

If she is truly dead, then I morn for an irreplaceble loss to this world. She is at peace right now. I wish she had done it differently, but I can’t seem to help her change her mind. That hurts too. Because this feeling of not doing enough to save her still lingers..

I won’t dwell on her death anymore. She had touched the lives of those she could and concluded her part. The happy memories are few because she was always in that dark hole that I had to be pulling her out every time. But those few memories are worth holding on to.

May she find the peace that eluded her here on the other side.

Once again Tolu, “Be good, Good night.”

Woman hatches duck egg by incubating it in her bra for over a month

A California woman has received praises for going above and beyond to ensure that a cracked duck egg she found in a park hatched, by incubating it in her bra for over a month – 35 days.

Photo: Betsy Ross/Bored Panda

Betsy Ross was walking in the public park when she found a smashed up duck nests, and was begged by her kids to save a lucky egg which had only a small crack.

She had never hatched an egg before, and she didn’t think she could save it, but the children were already upset because of the nests, so she said yes.

Photo: Betsy Ross/Bored Panda

In an interview with Bored Panda, Ross revealed that she contacted a local wildlife rescue organization since she didn’t have an incubator but learned they didn’t take eggs.

She thought of the next best warm place to keep it and opted for her bra, close to her chest. A quick search online proved that she had chosen the right spot as the eggs basically require warmth and humidity. She also read that she had to rotate it a few times a day.

Throughout the 35 days, the only time the egg wasn’t with her was when she showered as she handed it to her husband for a few minutes. She figured that if mother ducks left the nest every once in a while to get food, her egg would survive too.

The embryo inside the egg began to grow and Besty had to do more research on what to do when a duckling is hatching.

The little duck eventually got out of the egg, but it was still attached to the yolk on the bottom, which, she was told, was because he had hatched a bit early. She later learned on Reddit that it was either because the incubation temperature was too low, or because the temperature wasn’t stable.

Photo: Betsy Ross/Bored Panda

Even after the duckling absorbed the yolk, it was too weak to stand, or even move, for a couple of days, but its human mom didn’t give up on it, keeping an eye on it and giving it water from time to time. He (it turned out to be a male) eventually built up the strength to walk and Betsy built him a special carrier and took him everywhere with her.

Coronavirus: Ignore “vaccine” being hawked in Kano – FG warns residents

Federal Government increases

The Federal Government has warned Kano residents against buying drugs being sold as “COVID-19 vaccines” in the state.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed raised the alarm at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) in Abuja on Tuesday April 21, and he said the yellowish vaccines being sold in Kano have not been certified.

Lai Mohammed said;

“The federal ministry of information and culture and its agencies have put up a public enlightenment and advocacy campaign to continue to reach Nigerians with information on how they can protect themselves and avoid contracting the disease.

Read his tweet below ;

So I & 5 hefty guys were securing the front of our crip. I had a shovel, they had cutlasses. One then suggested we patrol and we agreed.

Less than 100m walk, we saw two bikes accelerating towards us. Before I could say pim all 5 of my men disappeared. The only thing I heard was “iyke run!”. It never crossed my mind that I was moving gallantly with ungallant men. I ran too Fortunately, it was police. After a while, my men came out of their hideout, we gathered & started walking back to our domain.

We weren’t talking to each other. All of a sudden, one bursted out in laughter & every other person followed suit. We were laughing because we know we were useless. Just filling up the street. I asked Chidi why he ran, he said “nwuye m muru nwa ofóru, and nwa m amatabeghi m”.

Man electrocuted in Abuja suburb while trying to fix faulty transformer fuse

Man electrocuted

A man identified as Yakubu Alhassan, was electrocuted in Anagada community, a surburb in Abuja while trying to fix a faulty fuse in a transformer.

The residents said the deceased popularly known as Yakubu NEPA was a staff of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) but the company’s Public Relations Officer, Fadipe Oyebode, said the deceased was neither a staff, service provider nor contractor of AEDC.

A resident of the community, Ibrahim Yahaya, said the incident happened last Friday afternoon at about 12:47 pm.

“Actually the transformer which supplies electricity to Anagada sometimes trip off whenever there is electricity due to overload and in that process, the fuse pulls out. So the man now decided to go and fix the fuse. Anytime the light trips off, he is the one that goes there to fix the fuse on the transformer.” he said.

Fadipe Oyebode said the place where the 500 KVA transformer is located, is fenced with a gate, usually locked and fastened with a padlock.

According to him, the deceased gained illegal and unauthorized access to the 500KVA distribution substation for reasons best known to him.

“The circumstances surrounding the death are still unknown as several conflicting versions have been obtained – but he appears to have been electrocuted as facts revealed that his undertakers removed him from the substation and hurriedly buried him. Also, there is no medical report showing the cause of the deceased death, while the persons who removed the body of the deceased from the scene did not report the incident at the Nigeria Police,” he said.

He disclosed that investigations were still going on by AEDC and other relevant stakeholders, stating that the AEDC has also informed NERC, the industry regulator about the incident.

The deceased has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

Mourning his death on Facebook, Ahmed Kabeer said that Yakubu served Anagada community as a volunteer electrician.

“It’s very sad and painful to announce the death of Yakubu #NEPA a prominent person that serve Anagada community as a volunteer of electrification which he died as a result of putting fuse to prevent the overloading of a electrical circuit in our transformer which is situated at LEA PRIMARY SCHOOL ANAGADA.
