A Nigerian Medical Doctor has taken to his twitter page to write on why he believes the novel coronavirus made its way into Nigeria since December, 2019.
The Doctor opined that he handled a lot of patience with bizzare respiratory isues which culminated in himself having his own respiratory issue. He added that the illness disappeared after two weeks.
Read his tweets below ;
I honestly believe covid19 has been with us in Nigeria since December. It’s only natural considering the amount of steady traffic between China & Nigeria. Add to this the fact that I had to handle a lot of patients around mid/late January with bizarre respiratory issues,
Culminating in myself having my own severe respiratory issue from same mid January that disappeared after 2 weeks. Started with a sore throat, then a fever, then severe dry cough that lasted about 10 days before it started to get better. The after effects still leaves me with
Occasional chest muscle spasms & possible costochondritis.
I’ve mulled over this in my mind alone until I had a discussion with a cardiologist some day & he said things that mirrored my thoughts exactly without me having said anything first. Also said he had severe respiratory issues around the same time himself to the point he was scared he had T.B; plus also confirmed he handled numerous of such cases around the same time.
I listened to an interview from the head of NCDC where he said the cases in Nigeria are majorly mild to moderate symptoms and this leads me to strongly believe that the insults our immune systems have had to withstand over time may just be playing a positive role for us in all of this.
only wish there were enough test kits available to randomly test people who categorically had these symptoms around these times & presented at clinics; maybe it’d help shed a bit more light on how long we’ve been dealing with this.

The statement read ;
Mrs. Zakara visited the Ibafo police station where she reported that the suspect who is her neighbor had gone to the hospital where the baby was delivered, and claimed to be the father.
He then asked for the placenta of the baby from the nurse on duty, on the pretext that he was going to bury it, and it was given to him as the nurse thought he was baby’s father.
The suspect, who is a neighbour to Raliha, came to the hospital, where Raliha’s daughter was delivered of the baby, and pretended to be the father of the newborn. He demanded the placenta from the nurse on duty and it was given to him.
“On getting the placenta, he took it away on the pretext that he was going to bury it. But when the grandmother got to the hospital and was informed that the suspect had taken away the placenta, she quickly confronted him, but he told the grandmother that he had buried the placenta.
When the grandmother insisted that she should be taken to where he buried it, it was discovered that he had hidden the placenta but buried a dead rat.”
Upon the report at the police station, the DPO Ibafo division SP Abiodun Ayinde detailed his detectives to the scene where the suspect was arrested.
“It was discovered that the suspect had once been arrested for defrauding a police officer and a pastor of huge sums of money under the pretext of procuring Canadian visas for them and the case is being prosecuted in court. He took detectives to where he hid the placenta and it was recovered.”

President Buhari has asked Christians to imbibe the Christ-like quality of personal sacrifice for the sake of achieving greater good.
Buhari made the call in his Easter message to Nigerians, encouraging all citizens persevere through the hardship and unusual unpleasantness coming with the measures instated to cut down the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), in the country.
Read the message below
I rejoice with our Christian brothers and sisters as well as all Nigerians on the occasion of the celebration of this year’s Easter.
This year’s commemoration of Easter comes amid the grip with which Covid-19 has held the entire world.
Unprecedented in living memory, majority of Christians have found themselves marking Easter in a subdued manner, away from the usual congregation in churches. This is unusual and very unfortunate.
However, I wish to enjoin our Christian compatriots to rekindle their faith in Christ who overcame persecution, sufferings and displayed endurance, steadfastness and above all piety.
Jesus Christ represented man’s ability to withstand temporary pains in the hope of everlasting glory.
I urge you to imbibe and live the values of humility, discipline, perseverance, sacrifice and obedience which Jesus Christ demonstrated during His stay on earth.
There is no better opportunity than now for all Christians in particular, and Nigerians in general, to remain faithful and hopeful that with intensified prayers backed by personal and collective responsibility, the nation shall pull through this most difficult trial.
I have no doubt that if all stakeholders – individuals and groups – play their part to the fullest as advised by our scientists and medical experts in confronting Covid-19, the inherent resilience and determination of our people will enable us to pull through.
As I stated in my national broadcast on Sunday, March 29, 2020, since there is currently no known vaccine against the virus, “the best and most efficient way to avoid getting infected is through regular hygiene and sanitary practices as well as social distancing.”
May I use this opportunity to commend the encouraging containment and ameliorating strategies put in place by members of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19.
I am very much aware of the personal and collective inconveniences suffered by our people due to measures such as restriction of movements and closure of business premises. Being “a matter of life and death,” these sacrifices are in everybody’s interest to save our country from calamity.
The welfare of our people is paramount. Accordingly, the most economically vulnerable in our communities will continue to be uppermost in our plans, and efforts will be made to supply them with basic means of survival.
While we see the Covid-19 pandemic as a global challenge, this administration is not oblivious of the constant threat posed to our national security by terrorists and insurgents. They may take this opportunity to perpetrate attacks. But our armed forces and other security and intelligence services will remain vigilant and continue to contain these threats and consolidate efforts to eradicate them completely.
As we mark this year’s Easter, whatever the circumstances, I encourage you to make the most of the situation, and to keep safe.
Secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, revealed that he never knew Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure was in such a bad state.
Boss Mustapha, who is also the chairman of the Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19, said he realised how bad Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure was, after he was appointed to head the team. He made this known during a meeting with the leadership of the national assembly on Thursday.
“I can tell you for sure, I never knew that our entire healthcare infrastructure was in the state in which it is. Until I was appointed to do this work,” he said.
He also noted that the pandemic has provided the opportunity to examine the state of the national health care systems which is in dire need of reforms and funding, he said the weaknesses in Nigeria’s health systems became more glaring given the way more established health systems in Europe and America collapsed under pressure.
He however assured that there are plans to lay a legacy foundation for the immediate, medium and long-term development of the health system in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic across the country.
To this end, he said, the taskforce has proposed to utilise the resources being mobilised in a “strategic manner.” This includes:
Direct development and delivery of critical infrastructure to states by donors; direct procurement and delivery of personal protective equipment and other critical equipment by donors; deployment of rapid response teams to states for capacity building and support; and expansion of the testing capacity in the country.
Mr Mustapha added that for transparency and accountability, the taskforce will not be directly involved in the collection and disbursement of the cash donations for COVID-19.
“The Accountant General of the Federation has already published the account details for collection through some commercial banks and also provided the modalities for its utilisation. All the main COVID-19 accounts shall be domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
“However, all non-cash donations shall be duly received by the PTF, acknowledged, documented and appropriately deployed,” he said

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has confirmed his state’s second Coronavirus case who died after presenting himself to one of the hospitals in the state.
Governor Okowa said the deceased came into Delta state from Lagos two weeks ago. The man had severe symptoms of the disease, and he died after his coronavirus test result came back positive.
The Governor wrote on twitter ;
I have just been informed of another case of #COVID19 in Delta State. The individual in question, had underlying health issues and had visited Lagos State in the past two weeks. The patient presented himself late to one of our hospitals with severe symptoms.
These symptoms included difficulty in breathing. He was immediately given the necessary attention by healthcare professionals. Shortly after the specimen was taken, he passed away. However, his test results came back positive today.
In order to mitigate against the spread of the virus, we are fast-tracking our contact tracing to ensure that all those that came in contact with the deceased patient are properly isolated and tested immediately.
Again, it is important that as we work to protect the citizens and residents of our state, families and friends of individuals that are exhibiting the primary symptoms of the #COVID19 virus, do not keep it from the authorities. If you see something; say something.

The Ekiti State police has arrested a Tiv man identified simply as Sunday, after being linked to the death of 35-year-old Onibedo of Ilotin community of the state, Chief Sola Fatunla.
Before the incident, Sunday had apologized to the deceased for accusing him of snatching his wife Tadeni who he had two kids with before their marriage collapsed. The apology came after he found out that Fatunla and his wife were mere family friends.
But events took a tragic turn on Sunday when Fatunla followed the man to the bush.
Fatunla was killed last Sunday, while accompanying the suspect to where he claimed his charcoal was seized. Sunday had allegedly begged Fatunla to use his influence as a chief in Ikole Ekiti, to plead with some people he claimed had seized his charcoal in the bush.
He ran out of luck after his wife who he abducted alongside the Ekiti Chief, escaped while he and his acomplices allegedly took the deceased to a different location where he was beaten with cutlass and set ablaze.
A police source told Daily Trust;
“While the Chief was accompanying him to where his charcoal was seized, the Tiv man allegedly connived with others to abduct Chief Fatunla and Miss Tadeni somewhere around Iyemero Ekiti, in Ikole local government, Ekiti State.
“The Chief was strangled to death and his corpse set on fire. However, Miss Tadeni escaped from the abductors. Sunday and his other accomplices were caught by vigilante men in the Pategi area of Kwara State as they were escaping.
“When the vigilante men stopped Sunday and his accomplices and were questioning them as to their mission in the area, especially despite the lockdown, Chief Fatunla’s phone that Sunday kept in his pocket rang and he refused to answer the call. One of the vigilante men collected the phone and answered the call only to be told that the owner of the phone was abducted.
“The vigilante men then handed Sunday and the others to the police in Kwara State, who transferred them to the police in Ekiti State. Chief Fatunla’s remains had been recovered and deposited in the mortuary, while Sunday and the other suspects are being detained by the police in Ekiti State.”
