Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of a Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin on Monday, July 1, 2019 turned down a bail application filed by a self acclaimed herbalist, Jamiu Isiaka who is standing trial over alleged thirty million naira fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had on June 11, 2019, arraigned Isiaka on a four count charge of fraud, conspiracy and impersonating some senior government officials including the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr Maikanti Baru, Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Mr Femi Adeshina, a national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Amina Zakari among others.
He pleaded not guilty to all the four count charges. Ruling on the bail application on Monday, Justice Abdulgafar said the accused person have failed to show sufficient evidence of why the court should use its discretion in admitting him on bail.
“The Applicant (Defendant) did not furnish this honourable court with material evidence as to why the court’s discretion should be exercised in his favour and accordingly denied bail”.
The Judge however ordered for accelerated hearing of the case and adjourned till 9th of July, 2019 for further hearing. The accused person is to remain in Mandala prison pending the hearing and determination of the matter.
The herbalist reportedly sent several documents, which he claimed emanated from the NNPC and had the names of some top government functionaries like, the GMD of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, National Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs. Amina Zakari, among others in order to defraud a Korean National.
The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Council Area, Mr. Leo Nwuba has handed over an abandoned boy picked up by good samaritans at the back of Girls Secondary School, Amaenyi, Awka to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs.
The hand over took place at the Local Government Headquarters Awka. Four children between the ages of nine and fourteen years discovered the abandoned baby while on a snail hunt at about 10pm Last Saturday.
They were also at the Local Government headquarters to identify the child before the handing over for proper care.
The child was dumped at an erosion site behind Girls Secondary School, Amaenyi Awka, suspected to be immediately after birth where the children found it in a black sack and alerted their elder sister who quickly took the baby to a hospital for immediate attention before handing him over to the Local Government.

Emily Eric, the wife of Nigeria’s youngest senator, Elisha Abbo, who was caught on camera assaulting a woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja, has supported her husband, as she says he’s innocent of all ‘allegations’.
In a video which has since gone viral, Senator Abbo can be seen slapping a lady repeatedly before asking an armed officer to take her away.
In a post which she shared on Facebook, Abbo’s wife, Emily Eric wrote;

A South African lady, Adri Hugo who couldn’t contain her excitement, took to her social media to celebrate her househelp of 8 years who recently graduated with a first degree in Psychology.
Adri who said her househelp, Annamore Mabhii is an inspiration to her, revealed that the 31 year old is a mother of three, with her youngest child being only four years old.

Police in Cambodia has released the photo of the two-year-old girl eaten by crocodiles on her family’s farm in Siem Reap province’s Siem Reap city, Cambodia on Sunday, after she wandered off into the enclosure alone.
Captain Chem Chamnan, municipal deputy police chief, identified the victim as Rom Roath Neary. She was found dead at her family’s crocodile farm in Siem Reap city at 10am on Sunday morning.
“Her father only found her skull in the crocodile enclosure, where she was killed by crocodiles,” he said.
The mother is pictured holding the skull of the girl after it was picked up from the crocodile farm.
Lieutenant Och Sophen, chief of Siem Reap commune police, said that on the day of the incident, the girl was home with her mother.
Lt Sophen noted that the family had recently welcomed a newborn baby. As the mother was busy taking care of the baby, she lost sight of her elder daughter, he added. When the father came home at 10am, he found his daughter’s skull in the crocodile enclosure, he said.
“When he came back home, he couldn’t find his daughter in the house,” Lt Sophen said. “He found a skull in the crocodile enclosure. He confirmed that the daughter fell into the crocodile enclosure and that the crocodiles killed her, leaving only her skull.”
Lt Sophen noted that the family had built a fence around the farm, but children could still fit through them.
“His farm is located behind the house, and the small girl came to play around and fell in while her mother was busy taking care of another daughter, who had just been born,” Lt Sophen said.
“We convey our condolences to the family. The mother hugged her daughter’s skull in shock,” he added. “We appeal to all families who have crocodile farms to pay attention to all family members, especially small children.”

Paul Mukendi, a renowned Congolese Pastor of Parole de Vie evangelical church in Quebec, Canada, has been found guilty of a 9-count charge of sexual assaults.
His victim, a 31-year-old woman who came into his care after his mother “gave her as an offering” to him when she was still an under-aged teenager, had accused him of sexually assaulting her for 14 years (2002 to 2016).
While Pastor Paul Mukendi claimed that the victim is “motivated by financial gain” and fabricated the entire story, she stood her ground as the trial began on June 4.
The Congolese Pastor was found guilty by the Jury, as other women came forward with their own claims about being sexually abused. Judge Jean-François Émond who denied his lawyer’s request for him to be released pending his sentencing in September, opted for an immediate detention.
Infuriated youths on Monday set ablaze a police station in Obowo Local Government Area, after a trigger-happy police officer allegedly shot an unarmed young man, Ikenna Ukachi.
After killing the young man, the policeman abandoned his rifle and fled before the mob could a hold of him. The killing of the 25-year-old man triggered a massive outrage in the hitherto peaceful community.
In a spontaneous reaction, the youth marched on the Otoko Police Division to express their grievances. This attracted other angry members of the community which led to a mob action that resulted in the burning of the police division.
According to reports, the young man was shot and killed by the policeman at the EDS Plaza in Umuokeh, Obowo.
The angry youths blocked the roads passing through their community and leading to the police division with bonfires. On sighting the angry mob, officers and men at the Otoko Police Division fled their duty post for safety.
The angry youths then ransacked the police division, carted away firearms and set it ablaze.
The state Police Commissioner, Rabiu Ladodo, who confirmed the incident said that only about 30 per cent of the division was affected by the fire before it was put out.
The commissioner promised that he was working with the community leaders to recover arms and ammunition carted away from the police division.
“The trigger-happy policeman understands the gravity of his offence and had fled. He has been declared wanted and I have directed that he should be hunted down and arrested. He must face the full weight of the law. We have spread our dragnet, it is just a matter of time and he will be in custody.” he said.
Meanwhile, Governor Emeka Ihedioha, on Tuesday afternoon visited the community.
The Governor after visiting the Divisional Police Headquarters in Obowo which was set ablaze by the youths, also paid a visit to the bereaved family in Umuebea, Umuoke Obowo.
While consoling the family, the governor assured that the trigger happy policeman will be brought to book.
He charged the Commissioner of police in the state to fish out the cop, while urging them to ensure that all those who took the laws into their hands are apprehended.
He assured the deceased family that the Government will stand by them and support them at this trying period. He prayed God to grant the soul of Ikenna eternal rest.
The Governor was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Hon. (Engr) Gerald Irona, the Imo State CP, Ibrahim Ladodo, the Chairman Council of Tradition Rulers, Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri, the Special Adviser Security, Mr Raymond Nkemdirim, among other Government functionaries.
The Chief of Staff, Chief Chris Okewulonu alongside other leaders of the area were on hand to receive the Governor.

Nigeria’s youngest senator, Elisha Abbo was recently caught on camera assaulting a woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja.
According to Premium Times, the exchange which led to the assault incident occurred on May 11 after Mr Abbo, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), walked into the shop at about 6pm to purchase adult toys. It was learnt a lady he came with allegedly vomitted multiple times, prompting the shop owner to remark that she should have vomitted outside and not inside her shop, as she is not a child.
Senator Abbo who intervened, accused the shop owner of poisoning the store’s air conditioner which she denied. According to the shop owner, if the air conditioner had been contaminated others in the shop would have also taken ill. This led to a heated argument and exchange of words.
The shop owner was later seen at some point in the video, calling her father to inform him about the situation after the senator told a police officer who walked in to arrest her. The senator later told the lady to end the call and tried to collect her phone. The shop owner’s friend who was also present, intervened and asked the Senator and the armed officer to take it easy on the shop owner.
In the video obtained by Premium Times, Senator Abbo all of a sudden poured out his anger on the said friend. He slapped the lady repeatedly and asked the officer to take her away. The senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District who claimed that the shop owner insulted him and called him drunk, even though they were friends, assaulted the other lady while the armed mobile police officer looked on and also made an attempt to arrest the victim.
Premium Times reported that the incident occurred, nearly three months after Mr Abbo became a senator-elect and a month before he was sworn-in on June 11. The assault incident was reported on May 14 at the Maitama Area Command Headquarters on Nile Street, and it was further learnt that the police told the victim to go look for Mr Abbo’s telephone number or they would not be able to do anything about it.

A celebrity pastor in Nigeria is to take a leave of absence after a photographer accused him of rape.
Nicknamed “Gucci Pastor” for his expensive taste in clothes and cars, Biodun Fatoyinbo runs the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (Coza), one of the country’s fastest-growing pentecostal churches.
The allegations by Busola Dakolo, who is married to the well-known musician Timi Dakolo, led to protests outside the pastor’s churches on Sunday.
Fatoyinbo, who strongly denies the allegations, issued a statement saying he was taking “a leave of absence from the pulpit” to “submit to the concerns of (his) spiritual mentors”, and that he did not understand all that was happening.
The claims have prompted a number of allegations on social media from women abused or raped by people in authority in religious circles, which some have called Nigeria’s #MeToo moment.
One in four Nigerian girls have experienced sexual violence by age 18, according to Unicef, and hardly any receive any form of support.
Dakolo accused Fatoyinbo of raping her when she was a teenager in an interview last week. She described how he allegedly groomed her as she attended his then fellowship group, Divine Delight Club – which later transformed into Coza – giving her books, visiting her at home, singling her out to sing at meetings and driving her around in his Mercedes.
She claims he then came to her family home early one morning when her mother was away and raped her in the living room, as her sister slept upstairs. Afterwards, she said Fatoyinbo went to get a bottle of Krest, a fizzy lemon drink, from his car and forced her to drink it, saying: “You should be happy that a man of God did this to you.” She was 16.
He allegedly raped her again a week later on his car bonnet, after insisting on driving her home. Afterwards, Dakolo claimed he said: “You’ll be fine. This thing is not a new thing. Men of God do this.”
She said after she told her family what had allegedly happened, he came to her house with other senior members of the church and apologised, saying the alleged rapes were “a weakness” and “an act of the devil”.
Fatoyinbo quickly denied the allegations “in every measure”, saying: “I have never in my life raped anybody even as an unbeliever and I am absolutely innocent of this.”
Omolara Oriye, a human rights and advocacy director at the Initiative for Equal Rights, was one of those who protested outside the church’s main Abuja branch, defying members of the secret police on standby. She said Dakolo’s testimony and the outpouring of support showed women were refusing to be silent.
“The protest was about sending a message to those insulated by their position. We are watching you, we will identify you and the law will take its course,” Oriye said.
Actress, Simibee Davis, in a new post via her Instagram page this morning has accused Nigerian singer, MC Galaxy of raping her, after threatening her with a knife.

I couldn’t go home cos my brother would know something was wrong and I was too frightened and embarrassed to say anything, so I went to a friend’s place, when I got there she asked what had happened to me and I stood there still for a while and after much persuading I told her the story, she immediately started making calls and said she was going to deal with him, she organized boys to go beat him up and asked me to call him and act as if I wasn’t angry at him, so I could get his location, I did but I think he saw through it cos he knew he had done a bad thing. That was how he escaped till today.

Former Nollywood actress Steph-Nora Okere has also lent her voice to the rape allegations leveled against the former Senior Pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo, by Busola Dakolo.
Taking to her Facebook page this morning, the veteran actress revealed that she walked away from a major film shoot, (exited nollywood) because of a near rape incident and wondered why Bukola continued associating with pastor Fatoyinbo in his church after the incident.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, #EFCC, Enugu Zonal Office has secured five separate convictions that involved Orji Uchenna, Chime Isaiah, Ogbu Obinnna, Dunu Franklyn Tochukwu and Victor Patrick before Justice N.I Buba of Federal High Court, sitting in Enugu, the Enugu State capital on five separate one-count charge, which all bordered on internet fraud.
The convicts all pleaded guilty when their separate one-count charge was read to them respectively.
Investigations by the EFCC revealed that the convicts were in the habit of using fraudulent names and emails to defraud unsuspecting citizens of foreign countries.
Orji was found to have represented himself as George Terry Williams, a British widower in the Internet and knowingly sent the identity through his Whatsapp to Novelette Lothian.
Similarly, Dunu represented himself to be Rafiek Rafiek, Dimitri Folly-Adjo and Philipe Williams Paul, in the Internet and knowingly sent same through his FaceBook account- Philipe Williams Paul to one Mrs. Galina Kabarcekov.
Ogbu in his part, represented himself to be Rev. Father Micheal Donatus, a priest in the Internet and knowingly, sent a message through his email to one Kris Mohanpersad, while Chime who also represented himself as Russell March, an American and knowingly sent a message through an email account:officialconsult775@gmail.com to several individuals.
The prosecution counsel, Dalyop Eunice Vou in view of the guilty plea of the convicts, asked the court to sentence them based on the plea bargain agreement they entered with the Commission.
The defense counsel, Ernest O. Isiewu, however, asked the court to temper justice with mercy on the grounds that the convicts were all first offenders.
The presiding judge, Justice N.I Buba, found them guilty and sentenced them to one month imprisonment respectively. He equally ordered that the iphones and laptops recovered from the convicts be forfeited to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
A Nigerian man and his Indian girlfriend were arrested on Sunday, by the Kandivali police in Mumbai for possession of cocaine worth Rs 1.40 lakh.

While trying to do so the accused sped off with the car avoiding the cops but collided further away. The police officials then surrounded the vehicle and then nabbed Edoji.
He was in the car along with girlfriend Aaliya Sheikh, 29, when the cops caught him.
While undergoing a search of the vehicle. the police officials recovered 20 gram of cocaine worth around Rs 1.5 lakh.
“Edoji has been living in Kharghar for the last one year while Aaliya lives in Jogeshwari. The two became acquainted via social media. She has had several cases of drug-peddling against her in Delhi and other north Indian cities,” informed a police official.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Edoji came to India on a business visa and was residing in a rented flat in Khargar area since January 2019.
Aaliya, a resident of Jogeshwari, would visit high-profile pubs and clubs to seek out customers. Edoji would then supply the drugs.
An official said that the houses of both the accused have been searched but no drugs were found. Police have also seized the man’s passport and the Volkswagen car he was driving.
“We are investigating other aspects of the case including where he acquired the drugs from,” said the official.
“Both the accused were booked under various sections of the Narcotics Act and were produced before the court today. They were remanded in police custody,” The police official added.
A Facebook user with the name, Stanley Ceeben is of the opinion that washing machine should be banned in Nigeria because it makes women lazy.
According to the young man, ever since washing machine became affordable, women now thinks washing their husband clothes with bare hands makes them a slave in the house.
Stanley Ceeben wrote on Facebook:
“I think washing machine be banned in Nigeria, it has made many women lazy. Ever since washing machine was introduce and it became affordable, some women now feel washing their husband’s cloths with their bare hands makes them a slave in their own husband’s house.”
