Newly-crowned world champion Andy Ruiz Jr will bank just £5million after producing one of the greatest heavyweight upsets in history against Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden.

The Mexican underdog knocked the Brit down four times, forcing a seventh-round stoppage. But it is Joshua who will earn the lions’ share of the fight purse.

The dethroned WBA, WBO and IBF champion will accrue £20m after suffering the first defeat of his career.

Joshua struggled to gain a foothold in the early rounds, but found a breakthrough in the third, flooring Ruiz Jr with a left hook.

The challenger recovered and showed slick hand speed to knock Joshua down twice before the end of the round with chopping right hooks to the temple.

The 29-year-old staggered back to his stool and regained composure in the following rounds, but was knocked down twice more in the seventh, leaving referee Mike Griffin with no choice but to stop the fight.

Ruiz Jr stepped in to take the fight with just five weeks’ notice after Joshua’s original opponent Jarrell Miller failed a drugs test.

The Mexican accepted the £5m offer before the bout, over five times more than the £770,000 he received after the loss to Joseph Parker in 2017.

The most Ruiz Jr has earned for a win was a reported £382,000 against Devin Vargas in 2018.

Joshua described the loss as merely a ‘minor setback,’ with promoter Eddie Hearn expecting to arrange a rematch for December.

Footballer, Neymar Junior has finally spoken about the rape allegations that were leveled against him by Sao Paulo police, following claims from a Brazilian woman he met in Paris.

Neymar’s father suggested on Saturday night that the WhatsApp messages his son exchanged with the alleged victim, whom was flown into Paris on May 15, would be published in an attempt to prove his innocence to the public.

Neymar Sr reaction; “I know that my son can be accused of many things, but I know the boy that he is, the man that he is, the son of a father and a mother,” Neymar Sr. said. “We will push for justice to be served as quickly as possible.”

Reports in Brazil claim Neymar paid for her travel and met her at Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe. The 27-year-old says he met her at the hotel but contests the serious claims from the unnamed woman, who is protected by victim anonymity.

Neymar reaction; “I’m being charged of rape,” Neymar said in an Instagram video published on Sunday morning that has already been viewed more than 10 million times. “It’s a heavy word, it’s a very strong thing, but it’s what’s happening right now.”

“I was taken by surprise. It was very bad, very sad to hear that. You know my character, you know what I mean, you know I would never do something like that.”

“But I’ve been exposed to it and I’m here to make a face of it, because I know that any news with my name involves a lot of things, it makes a very loud noise, and everybody keeps wanting my statement, and what happened was totally the opposite of what they say.”

“From now on I will expose everything, I will expose all the conversation I had with the girl, all our moments, which are intimate, but it is necessary to be open, it is necessary to expose to prove that nothing really happened at all.”

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi on Sunday urged Christians not to attack the President of the country through any means. Kumuyi Kumuyi, who gave the admonition during his sermon at the Deeper Life Bible Church, Headquarters, Gbagada, in Lagos said that real Christians must obey constituted authorities and shun violence. Delivering his sermon entitled “The Believers’ Preservation Until the Day of Visitation”, Kumuyi said that Christians are strangers and pilgrims in the world and must be Christ-like in their character, conducts and conversations.

The cleric, who read from Biblical passage, I Peter 2: 11-25 said that Christians lifestyle must reflect Christ in a civil society, saying that government derives their authority from God. “Don’t attack the President of the country whether in words or in the newspapers or through internet. “Honour kings; don’t disrespect or dishonour the governors. Don’t disrespect leaders of the community and leaders in the church. According to him, Christians should not give up worship of God for money- making ventures, saying “man brought nothing to the world and will not take anything out of it.”. “If we are going to heaven, we must be careful and thoughtful and run from all appearance of evil. “Don’t be ignorant, careless, and thoughtless. Many are ignorant of the day of visitation,” Kumuyi added. The cleric urged Christians to shine as light in the world through their lifestyles, saying Jesus Christ had given them an example to follow even when they are being persecuted in the world.
