Snakes chase Liberian president out of office

Snakes have reportedly forced Liberian President, George Weah out of office, making him to work from his private residence.

Press secretary Smith Toby told the BBC that on Wednesday two black snakes were found in the foreign affairs ministry building, his official place of work. All staff have been told to stay away until 22 April.

It’s just to make sure that crawling and creeping things get fumigated from the building,” Mr Toby said.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts the office of the president, so it did an internal memo asking the staff to stay home while they do the fumigation,” he said.

The office of the president has been based in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since a fire in 2006 gutted the nearby presidential mansion.

“The snakes were never killed,” Mr Toby said. “There was a little hole somewhere [through which] they made their way back.”

Mr Toby said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs started to fumigate on Friday.

“That building’s been there for years now, and [because of] the drainage system, the possibility of having things like snakes crawling in that building was high,” he said.

The president is definitely returning to his office on Monday after the fumigation whether or not the snakes are found and killed, Mr Toby said.

Emma Ugolee narrates how an Indian hospital swapped the kidney his sister donated to him and transplanted another into him.

Emma Ugolee narrates

Media personality Emma Ugolee has shared his own encounter with an Indian hospital which almost cost him his life.

He shared his experience in reaction to a story shared by a Nigerian man who blamed the incompetence of staff at an Indian hospital for the death of his mother.

Sharing his encounter, Emma Ugolee said the Indian hospital transplanted another kidney in his body rather than the kidney donated by his sister. It wasn’t until they returned to Nigeria and he wasn’t getting better that this error was discovered.

He wrote:

Excitement fueled my mind as my sister & I headed for India in 2012 for a kidney transplant. She was a perfect match for me and we were mighty glad about that. Adding to our joy was the fact that we were going to spend $30,000 for the entire surgery. About 10% what was needed for same in America

Google searches on the hospital’s records, all impressive. SUV airport pick up, intimidating hospital structures, 1st class treatment, all part of the packaged experience that would have the average Nigerian patient almost thanking Buddha for healthcare alien to his world.

The teeming Nigerian crowd at the lobby was like a pilgrimage for the sick.

The multi million dollar traffic from Nigeria is aided by hundreds of indian marketing officials parading Nigerian hospitals in full collaboration with Nigerian doctors who get percentages in exchange for references.

6weeks later we are wheeled out of the surgery room. A test called the creatinine test used to tell that the kidney was doing great was never passed. My fears were allayed by the doctor who said it would take a while. So we came home. Weeks later, the while never came. My doctor in Nigeria gets worried and orders a biopsy and a scan.
The results to my ears in his words: “Emmanuel there is no way in God’s green earth that this is your sisters kidney inside you. Not with size and functionality.” So it was that my sisters kidney was swapped during the surgery

Made sense when the hospital among many others in India had to face a special committee investigating organ black market deals

6months later, my legs are all swollen as i lay on my back for my 1st restart session of dialysis.

And so the horror hit the refresh button for me to re-live

My story is one out of hundreds of Indian trips gone wrong. I am blessed to be telling my story. Many of my friends cannot because they died.

I have no faith in Govt. so this post it not even hoping for her to act. I am just hoping some how, that the fallacy that India is salvation for the sick is changed. It is a big business with the traditional indian corruption at the core of it. Life often the sacrifice paid. Treatment is secondary. Examples abound.

34 Female Strippers From Wealthy Homes Arrested In Abuja

Officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), have reportedly raided a popular night club in Abuja, Caramelo, and arrested 34 female nude dancers.

During the raid on Wednesday night, the front perimeter fence of the nightclub, which is located at Utako district of Abuja, was also demolished, an official said.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, the Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Umar Shuaibu, said the FCTA Joint Task Team, which comprises of the Department of Development Control, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) and the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) stormed the premises of the night club.

“In response to security reports and complaints from the residents of area adjoining the location of Caramelo Night Club on plot 630 Cadastral zone B05 along T.O.S Benson Street within Utako District, the relevant authority deployed its officers to carry out surveillance in order to validate the complaints.

“The outcome of the surveillance revealed that the complaints are genuine and real. Please note that the substance of these complaints include, noise nuisance from loud party music, nude/strip dancing club activities intractable traffic challenge, resulting from uncontrolled patronage to the commercial nightclub within the residential precinct,” he said.

Mr Shuaibu said the plot “under reference is zoned as Health Clinic on the Utako District Landuse Plan, and in line with this plan , the building plan approval granted was for the development of the health clinic”.

“Accordingly, the property was developed as a health clinic however, the use of the building has been changed to a commercial night club (Caramelo Night Club),” he said.

Mr Shuaibu noted the authority has repeatedly engaged with the operator of Caramelo and ‘other operators’ on the need to stop their operations but all to no avail.

He assured the public that his department will continue to ensure the city remains a safe place for living, working and recreating.

‘High calibre arrest’
Also, Acting Secretary, Social Development Secretariat (SDS), Safiya Umar, said the owner of the club would be punished according to the law, “considering the calibre of girls arrested.”

Mrs Umar said the preliminary investigation showed that the nude dancers were from wealthy homes.

She said some of them were married and have children.

She said the dancers have been taken to Wuse General Hospital for medical checkup, after which they would be taken to FCT rehabilitation centre in Lugbe, where they will stay for three months.

“Dear Nigerian police, do you think God will not punish all of you?” – Mark Anthony writes

There is nothing as frustrating as meeting harm where you’re supposed to meet protection. There is nothing as worrying as seeing the Nigerian police and you automatically start panting because your hair is carved in some kind of way or because the price of your phone is their net worth. There is absolutely nothing wonderful about hearing the police siren and your heartbeat starts beating in tune of impending doom.

Nigerians will be angry at God if he forgives these uniformed men. You can imagine a country deeply rooted in religion not minding going on to practice civil disobedience against God and his word. The reason is simple; the Nigerian police has pushed we the citizens beyond the limits of remembering God and his word. Many actually are doubting the presence of God in the country and why he lets his innocent children die simply because they are innocent.

Innocence has since become a crime because the gun wielders in this country have become so bored they shoot people who did nothing. Their fingers are always on the trigger and just like many Nigerians love soft work, they do so too.

You can hardly see them in crime scenes. They hardly engage robbers or kidnappers because they will be smoked. Rather, they engage young boys who are either watching a football game or rushing to somewhere to do some stuff.

They have become so cocky they want to know what is inside your phone, they want to know why you have dreadlocks, they want to know where you are going to and why you are going there, they want to know why you have a tattoo on your skin forgetting the tribal marks on their own faces. Imagine being arrested for having a tattoo by some cop whose face is littered with tribal marks!

There is hardly a day that goes by without a news of the police shooting someone that did absolutely nothing to them. Your only crime is living in Nigeria where there are no laws.

That is honestly the crime of their many victims.

They shoot, kill and funnily get away with it because this is Nigeria and nothing will happen if you know someone that knows the cousin of the DPO’s cook or gateman.

There have been organized marches about these issues and it still feels the same. I don’t understand why the citizens have to march when they are the victims. Why wont the government do the needful by marching out every cop that shows traces of hostility or violence.

Just like rape victims marching for rapists to be arrested and chopped into tiny bits.

If the victims have to march to call the attention of the authorities, it can be argued that the authorities either don’t know their jobs or they are benefiting from the misbehaviors of their staff.

For everyday the people at the top keeps quiet another person dies, for everyday another person is killed, God is preparing the punishment he will give Nigerian police men and women.

It should not he hell because their smelly uniforms are worse than hell!

A gruesome punishment awaits all of them who have caused a family to shed a tear or to spend insane amounts in hospitals to keep their loved ones alive.

To Nigerians, until God punishes them, let us stay safe. All love!

Nigerian Lady Who Has Been Bridesmaid to 40 Friends, set to wed (Photo)

A Nigerian lady identified who has been bridesmaid to 40 of her friends, is set to become the main bride soon soon as disclosed in an interview with BellaNaija.

Recounting her experience she said;

There have been times when the bride had been stood up by her makeup artist at the last minute and I had to arrange a backup service. I recall one incident at work where I was in the tea room with a colleague who happened to be the only child of her mother. She mentioned that she was getting married and did not have a maid of honour. I quickly volunteered to be her chief bridesmaid.

Two weeks later, I had my gown ready and was ready to rumble. There was another incident where the bride turned to me and asked if she was doing the right thing. She was on the verge of calling it off right there and then in spite of the fact that she’d known her then groom-to-be for over seven years. I had to walk through the tightrope of reassuring her that she could not have made a better decision and the day was saved. I could be seated at my desk at the office working through a humongous spreadsheet at 2 in the afternoon when a call might come in asking me to be a part of someone’s train. As funny as it might seem, I get referrals like that from friends of friends and family.

I know forty times is a big deal. It is just that I am a happy fixer and because I recognize the beauty and joy in every wedding ceremony and I want to see that the couple is happy. It gives me a sense of fulfilment that I’m unable to completely describe; I’ll just get into bed at the end of the day and feel this surge of satisfaction come over me. I don’t see myself ever quitting this. As long as there is a bride out there seeking the energies of a happy party princess, I shall be there.

Screaming God’s name during sex will grant you heaven – Maurice Ampaw says

Legal Practitioner, Maurice Ampaw has disagreed with the assertion by founder and leader of the Heaven’s Gate Ministry, Prophet Kumchacha that any woman who screams the name of Jesus Christ or God during love making will never make it to heaven.

He justifies his argument by quoting a verse from the bible which states that in all things one must give thanks to God and if the person is enjoying emotionally and giving praises unto the name of God that person should rather be given a free passage to heaven.

“I disagree with Kumchacha because God has advised us to call unto him in everything we do. He further stated that God is interested in the affairs of men and irrespective of the circumstance the woman mentions the name of God, she must be granted a free passage to heaven”, he argued.

A man has kicked the bucket days subsequent to stabbing his girlfriend to death and concealing her body under the bed.

Thabiso Hlabahlaba, 41, killed his girlfriend Khethiwe Mosoeu, 33, last Thursday at a home in Centurion, Gauteng area of South Africa. He then swallowed four packs of rat poison with gin and sat waiting to die.

Thabiso’s sister Dikeledi, 31, said Thabiso told them his girlfriend went to the shops when they asked him where she was. But they suspected something as wrong because Thabiso, who rarely drinks, had bought a bottle of gin and drank it all.

“He was not a drinking person and we became suspicious,” Dikeledi said.

She said they went to the apartment he shared with Khethiwe and discovered she had been killed.

She said: “We broke the window. There was blood on the curtain and we saw her legs sticking out under the bed. We still wonder why Thabiso did this. It’s a pity he’s also dead and won’t tell us why he did it.”

Denrele Edun shares touching story about humiliating rejection he suffered during his first professional modelling shoot.

Denrele Edun has taken to his social media page to recount his struggles when he was a budding model and his story is so touching.

The media personality told of how he went after designers, begging to model for them. Most of them made fun of him, told him he doesn’t have what it takes. Other models laughed at him, and he was completely ignored.

According to Denrele, one particular designer looked him up and down and told him, “You can never walk on my runway. U look like a malnourished Somalian refugee.”

The now sought after model and media personality, who has made it multiple times to the cover of several magazines, wrote:

1999.

Shola Creative Studios, SuruLere.
An (Androgynous) Male Model has to be psychologically strong; there’s a lot of rejection!
In the spirit of FashionWeek, allow me dig out my dusty portfolios and throwback my first ever professional modeling shot!
?
Despite d disgusted looks from passers by, I walked with my defiant confidence to d local bus-stop to board a Molue that’ll take me to another Designer’s showroom.
I had developed a knack for appearing at Fashion Designer showrooms and their houses to present my pictures & my overwhelming personality. All in a bid to convince them to walk in their shows.
Mind you; I was the shortest, skinniest Male Model at that time, but that didn’t deter me. The Hustle was real!
I got to a designer’s house and saw a cluster of top models. They all burst into laughter when I walked past but then, who cared? Sighting a familiar face, I ran up to her and was told fittings had begun. In my usual bravado, i saw the designer & walked up to him.
Moment i introduced myself & my intentions, he stared me down and asked,
“Are you a Refugee?”.
“No Sir, but I’m the model with a unique look who’ll love to walk for u,” I threw back confidently.
He looked me up and down and said, “U can never walk on my runway. U look like a malnourished Somalian refugee”, and with that he faced his tailors & continued giving directives. “I’ll wait in d Showroom Sir, till u’r ready to fit me”, I answered bk & walked in to the reception.
This designer actually hissed & went in. Came out, dismissed all d other models without me noticing and left the building.
Wit all d bravado I could muster, I waited for an agonizing 12 hours. I was scared to go get something to eat cos i didn’t want to miss his entrance.
At bout 11pm, he strolled in wit some other models. They obviously had finished a shoot & he seemed to be in a light mood.
Seein my chance, I walked up to him.
This time, he lost his cool.
But that didnt stop me from walking his show weeks after.
He refused to pay me & not only was I stranded but had to walk from V/I to Yaba wher Vigilantes made me frog jump on the express!

The Designer? We’re friends till date!

Teenage student burnt to death two weeks after she filed sexual harassment complaint against her headmaster

Teenage student burnt

A 19-year-old student, Nusrat Jahan Rafi was doused with kerosene and set on fire at her school in Bangladesh. Less than two weeks earlier, she had filed a sexual harassment complaint against her headmaster.

The teenager was from Feni, a small town 100 miles (160km) south of Dhaka and was studying at a madrassa, ( Islamic school)

On 27 March, she said the headmaster called her into his office and repeatedly touched her in an inappropriate manner. Before things could go any further she ran out.

According to BBC, Nusrat went to the police with the help of her family on the day the alleged abuse happened. At the local police station she gave a statement. She should have been provided with a safe environment to recall her traumatic experiences. Instead she was filmed by the officer in charge on his phone as she described the ordeal.

In the video Nusrat is visibly distressed and tries to hide her face with her hands. The policeman is heard calling the complaint “no big deal” and telling her to move her hands from her face. The video was later leaked to local media.

For a girl in her position, reporting sexual harassment can come with consequences. Victims often face judgement from their communities, harassment, in person and online, and in some cases violent attacks. Nusrat went on to experience all of these.

On 27 March, after she went to the police, they arrested the headmaster. Things then got worse for Nusrat. A group of people gathered in the streets demanding his release. The protest had been arranged by two male students and local politicians were allegedly in attendance. People began to blame Nusrat. Her family say they started to worry about her safety.

On 6 April, 11 days after the alleged sexual assault, Nusrat went to her school to sit her final exams.

“I tried to take my sister to school and tried to enter the premises, but I was stopped and wasn’t allowed to enter,” said Nusrat’s brother, Mahmudul Hasan Noman.
“If I hadn’t been stopped, something like this wouldn’t have happened to my sister,” he said.

According to a statement given by Nusrat, a fellow female student took her to the roof of the school, saying one of her friends was being beaten up. When Nusrat reached the rooftop four or five people, wearing burqas, surrounded her and allegedly pressured her to withdraw the case against the headmaster. When she refused, they set her on fire.

Nusrat’s death has sparked protests and thousands have used social media to express their anger about both her case and the treatment of sexual assault victims in Bangladesh.

“Many girls don’t protest out of fear after such incidents. Burqas, even dresses made of iron cannot stop rapists,” said Anowar Sheikh on BBC Bengali’s Facebook page.
“I wanted a daughter my whole life, but now I am afraid. Giving birth to a daughter in this country means a life of fear and worry,” wrote Lopa Hossain in her Facebook post.

According to women’s rights group Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, there were 940 incidents of rape in Bangladesh in 2018. But researchers say the real number is likely to be much higher.

“When a woman tries to get justice for sexual harassment, she has to face a lot of harassment again. The case lingers for years, there is shaming in society, a lack of willingness from police to properly investigate the allegations,” said Salma Ali, a human rights lawyer and former director of the Women Lawyers’ Association.

“It leads the victim to give up on seeking justice. Ultimately the criminals don’t get punished and they do the same crime again. Others don’t fear to do the same because of such examples.”

Activists are now demanding the order be implemented and enshrined in law to protect students.

“This incident has shaken us, but as we have seen in the past, such incidents get forgotten in time. I don’t think there will be a big change after this. We have to see if justice gets done,” said Professor Kaberi Gayen of the University of Dhaka.

“Change has to come in, both psychologically and in implementing the rule of law. Awareness about sexual harassment should be raised from childhood in schools,” she said.
“They have to learn what is right and wrong when it comes to sexual harassment.”
