One Dead, Five In Critical Condition After Consuming Contaminated Cassava Flour In Ogbomoso
In a heartbreaking turn of events, one person has tragically passed away, and five others are in critical condition after consuming a meal of Amala, prepared with contaminated cassava flour instead of yam flour, in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The incident unfolded on the evening of February 28, in the Temidire Atoyebi area along Ajaawa Road.
The affected family, consisting of a grandmother identified as Mrs. Victoria Paul Adewole, her four children, and a granddaughter, consumed the meal and soon began experiencing discomfort.
Their distress prompted concerned neighbors to intervene, swiftly rushing them to a private hospital located in the Ogbomoso Baptist High School area.
Tragically, the granddaughter did not survive.
The family was subsequently transferred to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, where medical professionals are currently battling to save the lives of the remaining family members.
According to an undisclosed source, it was revealed that the family resorted to grinding cassava peels as a substitute for yam or cassava flour due to financial constraints.
Professor Olawale Olakulehin, the Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, confirmed the incident, stating that four out of the five family members are responding to treatment.
However, one member remains in critical condition.

Singer Simi replies music critic who said her style of music is ‘lazy’
Sensational Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, better known as Simi, has responded to a social media user who shared her thoughts on her latest song, tagging it as “lazy.”
Simi, who is the beloved wife of fellow singer Adekunle Gold, had been teasing her first single of the year, “All I Want,” for several days before its official release on February 16.
Shortly after the song’s debut, a music critic offered an unsolicited review about the song, describing it as lacking effort.
The Twitter user encouraged Simi to explore new artistic avenues because her style of music is disappointing and lazy.
She tweeted, “I really need Simi to evolve as an artist. She’s not impressing me with her new songs. It feels like she’s not putting in much effort.”

Gombe Police PRO shares how he waited for 14 years to marry the love of his life
The Spokesperson of the Gombe State Police Command, Mahid Muazu Abubakar, has taken to social media to share his unconventional love story after tying the knot with his wife, Nafisa.
The PRO, who warmed the hearts of many with his story, disclosed that he waited for 14 years before he was accepted by his bride’s family and allowed to marry her.
He said he met her for the first time fourteen years ago but couldn’t reveal his intent because she was too young. When she came of age, he proposed to her in 2016 but was rejected by some members of her family.
Interestingly, they reached out to him in December 2023 to ask if he was still interested in marrying her, and he accepted. The tied the knot on February 24, 2024.
Sharing photos of himself and his bride, Mahid wrote,
“8 years ago, I proposed to this young girl called Nafisa while I was still in the Academy, meanwhile, I first saw her in 2010 and kept it to myself considering her tender age until 2016.
Despite facing rejection from yet to be disclosed member of of her family after I passed out from the academy in 2018, I never gave up.
After multiple attempts, I was finally asked in Dec 2023 if I still had interest. I accepted her, because of the love we both had for each other and on 24/02/24, I married the love of my life. Matar Mutum Kabarinsa. 💕 #LoveStory #MarriedLife”

Nigerian comedian Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, popularly known as Mr Jollof, has shared his surprising encounter with the management of popular Nigerian singer Burna Boy.
Jollof revealed that he and some investors reached out to Burna Boy’s team to discuss the possibility of him performing at a concert in Delta state, offering $1 million as performance fees.
However, they received a rude shock when his team rejected the money because it was below the singer’s standard rate.
Following the experience, Jollof asserted that Burna Boy has reached great heights in his career and has transcended the Nigerian industry.
He also stated that Nigerians failed to recognize Burna’s potential before he became an international music star, and now he has outgrown Nigerians.

She revealed a picture of the ticket, which contains the name of the market association, address, amount to be paid and Prayer Day as the title.

Popular Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, widely recognised as Ayra Starr has disclosed that she was signed by her record label boss, Don Jazzy, within three days.
The “Sabi” crooner revealed how she sang a cover song and shared it on social media to land a record deal with Mavin Records.
Ayra Starr claimed that her mother encouraged her to do song covers and switched her focus from modelling to music.
In her words; “I wanted to do modelling because everyone told me I couldn’t do it, like I’m not tall enough, and I told them, “watch me.” And I ended up doing it. When I look back, I’m so proud of little Ayra, too.
It’s because of her that I’m here now. It’s because of that 16-year-old girl that didn’t give up and kept going. I used to do cover [songs] on Instagram. My mum and her friends used to force me to do covers.
I uploaded one cover on Instagram, I didn’t even like the video. But something just kept telling me to post it and I did. Not up to 6 hours later, Don Jazzy reached out. Three days later, he signed me.”

She added; “I’m an artiste to the core, and I want my style, my hair, my music, to represent how I feel. I don’t really care about aesthetics, it’s more about how I feel. I’m not really bothered about the male, female gaze, or anybody’s gaze for that matter, except my own.

He emphasized that empowering traditional rulers would enable them to act independently without seeking clearance from state governments.
