Popular BBNaija star, Nina Chinonso Onyenobi has shared in a recent interview with Sun News how she entered the Big Brother Naija House.
In this exclusive interview with Sunnewsonline.com, the undergraduate of Imo State University opens up on life before the reality TV show, how she survived bullying in the Big Brother house and her affair with former housemate and winner, Miracle, among other interesting issues. Enjoy.
Tell us about your childhood
I’m from a happy family, not rich, not poor but just average. At least, we ate three times a day. We are five children and I am the fourth born, three girls and two boys. I was an easy-going child, more of an extrovert. I’m 21 going 22. Growing up was fun. My parents took good care of us. They provided our needs.
Before Big Brother came along, what were you doing?
I was a student and model. I made wigs and also did make-up. I had interest in make-up and facial modeling. I was aspiring to be an actor, though I was already acting in church, I really looked forward to a Nollywood break. Back then, I remember I starred in a movie entitled, Twin Affairs where I played the role of a gold digger, it was a major role.
How did you discover your ability to act?
When you are passionate about something, things happen naturally. Acting is something I love. With love and passion you can achieve anything.
Big Brother transformed you from the girl-next-door to a celebrity in just three months. How did you get to know about it?
The passion to be part of Big Brother started after I watched a previous edition. I was so moved I decided I wanted to go for the show, and then, a friend sent me the audition flyer. I was so excited and I just wanted to do it. First, I went to church and committed my dream into the hands of God. In fact, I went to Shiloh, which ended on a Saturday, the day I was supposed to audition. But then, I did my auditioning on Sunday and passed. That was the first audition and the crowd was massive! I made it through the first audition in Port Harcourt and the second audition in Lagos, and then there were more auditions and I just kept going until I landed in the House.
Did your parents encourage you?
They were happy, encouraging and praying for me. Even if they didn’t, I would still have gone for it, because it’s my future I’m building. The idea of finishing school and being jobless was terrifying! So, I really needed to start building my life in terms of what I like, what I wanted my life to look like and besides, if I succeeded, it would be a big boost to my family, especially my siblings.
What do you think made you stand out of the crowd during the auditions?
It was because I didn’t go there with any strategy. I went there being Nina. During the audition, they saw that I was real. I later asked one of the organisers and he said that the reason why they chose me was because I was real. You see, I was open and honest on every question they asked me. They saw the honesty in my answers. I believe that’s the major reason they chose me. Back in the House too, they asked me if I had a strategy and I said ‘no, I have none’. Truth is, I didn’t even know what my life was, so I wanted to go in there and watch my life. I went there as a plain girl that anybody could read and understand.
Tell us, who is the real Nina?
I’m a very honest, open and down-to-earth person, with a very pure heart. And I don’t gossip. If you annoy me, I’d come straight and tell you. I don’t gossip. I’m just like that because that’s who I am and I can’t change. I hate gossip and I hate proud people. I don’t pretend and I’m not proud.
What was the greatest advice you received that contributed to your success at the show and who gave it to you?
That was my sister, I. J, and Aunty Oge Okoye. They advised that I should not pretend but go there and just be Nina. So, I went there and I was Nina; I was me. I didn’t even know Nina until I went into the Big Brother house. But I really wanted to know who Nina was. You don’t really know who you are until you go there (Big Brother), because the platform will define you. It’s exciting. I went to Big Brother and discovered myself.
Did the people you met in the house intimidate you?
Yes, because they were older and very loud. They made too much noise and I don’t like noise. I am not used to loud people. I am a very calm and reserved person. They all wanted their voices to be heard, so it really held me back until they started getting evicted and Biggy’s advice and Miracle’s advice inspired me. They always advised me to be strong. At some point, I was crying a lot and even wanted to go home, but Big Brother made me strong. I noticed Big Brother liked me because of the advice he used to give me. Big Brother showed me love through his advice as a big brother.
What’s your take-away from Big Brother show and how has it built you?
I can now express myself very well regardless of where I am, regardless of who is there. In the Big Brother house, I was with celebrities, dignitaries and lots of great people that visited the house. So today, anywhere I find myself, I am able to express myself.
Was it love at first sight with Miracle?
Miracle and I met before we moved into the House. So, we were already friends. It’s just normal, mutual friendship. We met at the audition and got into the house, and before we knew it, nature ran its course. I’m not regretting anything because I found out he was true to me. It wasn’t his strategy.
What attracted you to Miracle?
Wow! He said because I was real he trusted me. He found out that I was very real. And Miracle by nature is very real and open. He doesn’t fear anybody. That was what actually attracted him to me. Miracle is someone you can confide in, and besides, he’s a man of his words. Yes, whatever he says, he does. He promised to be there for me till the finals and he was there for me.
Back in the house, when was your breaking point?
(Laughter) That was when everyone was bullying me.
Why do you think they were bullying you?
They all knew my age and were expecting me to respect them, because I was the youngest. But when they didn’t get that respect, they decided to bully me. So, when Big Brother told me to ignore them, because everybody is equal regardless of age, my vocal chord was activated! I started talking. Initially, I was scared but when Big Brother started telling me these things, I felt I had been liberated and started talking very well.
Who would you like to act with in Nollywood?
Tonto Dikeh.
Why?
I love her personality. Tontoh Dike is my role model; she’s just amazing!
What’s your advice for those who desire to participate in Big Brother 2019?
Go for auditions and pray hard. If it’s you, it’s you. If it’s not you, it’s not you. If they pick you, just go there and live your life. People may not like you if you live someone else’s life, but people will just love you more if you’re true to your real self.

According to her the politicians had sex with her despite knowing her HIV positive status then.
In a lengthy post she shared on Facebook, she stated that their political party, NDC, should pay her now or risk having the names of the men exposed.
Joclyce Dzidzor Mensah wrote:
“ Two very powerful Top NDC politicians who had sex with me. This message goes to you. I still respect you because of your important positions so I will not mention your names for now.
But the same way you people conspired and sabotaged my meeting with Bill gate after my visa was processed and my first class ticket sent to me to fly to Tokyo, that is the same way I will do to you if you are still behaving this way.
I am not blackmailing anyone. As for the sex, we all enjoyed it but the HIV money, am not leaving it. If you people think you can use me for that dirty Job and keep the million dollars to yourselves alone then you must be joking.
I will never lie about my affair with any man. And if am just fabricating sex stories, may thunder strike me dead.
I did all the dirty job by sacrificing my image. On top of that, you people had sex with me. Raw sex no condom.
I remember that particular sex we had, five rounds at a go giving you all my styles and yet you people will do this to me.
Give me my money ooo , don’t call me a bad person later.”
A woman was shocked to discover her 103-year-old mum was still alive 61 years after losing contact with her family.
Eileen Macken, 81, had lost hope of finding her birth mother but made a breakthrough earlier this month, Metro UK reports.
She tracked down her elderly parent with the help of a genealogist who decided to help her after she phoned into RTE Radio One’s Joe Duffy’s Liveline radio show, in Ireland, last year.
Mrs Macken had wanted to find her blood relatives because she felt lonely and also wanted to know her medical history so she could spot any potential problems for her two daughters.
She phoned back into the radio show last week to reveal she had found her birth mum after taking a DNA test.
She said:
‘The sadness that goes with being alone, even to this day, different things would set me off, I’d say, “if only I had a brother, if only I had a sister”, I think it’s just within you that you have no blood relatives. But I have now.’
Mrs Macken, who is married to husband Ronald, said she’d spoken to her mum but was unable to visit her ‘across the water’ for the moment because she recently had an eye operation.
She added:
‘My mum is 103 and she will soon be 104. I spoke to her on the phone but she couldn’t hear me. She’s a bit like myself, I’ve only one good ear.
‘She kept saying, “I can’t hear you, I can’t hear you.” ‘Unfortunately she is across the water and I’ve had two cousins who have come on to help me out since they got the word that I had found who my mother was and where she was.
‘They now know that all I want is to see her.’Mrs Macken, who was raised in Dublin’s Kirwan House from two-years-old, said she wanted to scream from a mountain she was not an orphan anymore after beginning the search for her parents when she was 19.
She also found out she had two half-brothers who were still alive and were in their 70s. She said she was desperate not to upset anyone after getting in contact with her blood relatives.

The couple who got married on the 10th of January, 2019, are spending their honeymoon in Cape Town South Africa.
The founder, Faith Revival Apostolic Church (FRAC), Apostle Paul Adenuga has given the reason why pant theft in Nigeria is on the rise.
He said there is an increase in pant theft in Nigerian because religious leaders no longer preach about the ills of the society.
Adenuga condemned the act at the Christian Press of Nigeria (CPAN) breakfast meeting held in Lagos on Sunday.
“You can imagine, some men go to steal women pants because they want to make sudden money and some of these men are caught and displayed on social media, what a shame,” NAN quoted him as saying.
The Apostle posited that many churches preached more about how to make money and neglected the real gospel message that has moral instructions to help cultivate good virtues in Nigerian youths.
He, therefore, urged parents, especially mothers, to intensify prayers for their wards not to be involved in the shameful acts.

A drunk man chopped off his penis after drinking and had to be rushed to the hospital. Sadly, his organ could not be reattached immediately as neighbours forgot it back at his home as they were panicking.
Neighbours rushed to the rescue of Sam Maina, 25, when they heard chilling screams coming from his home in Kericho, Kenya, in the early hours of the morning. He was found writhing in pain with his penis on the bed.
Locals rushed him to hospital for life-saving surgery in Kericho but the operation was delayed because his penis was forgotten on his bed. Police then had to rush to the victim’s house to retrieve the blood-drenched organ.
A neighbour claimed Maina had been drinking and may not have been “fully aware of what his was doing.”
A police report said:
At around 12.50am Antony Kago Kanuthi was in his rental house near Momomiat village.
He heard a loud scream from his neighbour Samuel Maina.
When he rushed to his house he found he had cut his private part.
Kericho Police Commander James Mugera said by the time officers reached the scene they found the severed penis oozing blood on the bed. They then took it to Kericho District Hospital for doctors to reattach it.
But Maina was transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital because “of the nature of the wound,” said Medical Superintendent Japheth Cheruiyot.
He is now recovering after the bizarre drama as officials wait for him to reveal why he mutilated himself.

Police said the temperature in the attic bedroom hit 32C.
Johnson was sentenced to between 20 and 80 years behind bars.
During sentencing Judge Mark Trusock at a Kent County Circuit Court described her actions as “outrageously disturbing”.

The 2-year-old marriage between actress Yvonne Jegede and actor Kunle Fawole aka Abounce, is currently going experiencing turbulence, according to multiple sources.
The actress first gave a hint, late last year, via a post on her page and sources say she has now packed out of the house she once shared with Kunle. Both of them have also yanked off their wedding rings.
According to a source, the issue stems from the paternity of their child who was welcomed towards the end of 2018. Abounce is said to be doubtful of the paternity, hence his refusal to openly acknowledge the baby till now.
Another report says actress Bimbo Akintola may somehow be linked to the crisis, although the exact role she played is not known. However, a comment she made some weeks ago and liked by Abounce, shows her calling him her property.
