“Poorly trained newbies are ruining Nollywood” – Veteran actress, Shan George

Veteran Nollywood actress, Shan Georgehas stated that inefficiency is increasing in Nollywood as a result of the quantity of unskilled actors who have entered the field.

The 53-year-old actor claimed that the lack of professionalism representing the formerly esteemed sector is mostly the fault of the recent arrivals.

In an interview, Shan George said that the state of affairs was similar in other sectors of the economy, where a growing amount of incompetence was occurring.

She said; “The bad eggs, who are not well educated and trained enough for the job to know the rules and tenets of the profession are the ones responsible (for unprofessionalism). The sad part is that such display of unprofessionalism is currently increasing by the day in all industries.”

The legendary Nollywood actress reminisced about her entry into the film business in 1996.

George said;

“My journey into Nollywood began in 1996, when I attended an audition for a movie role at Maryland, Lagos. It was not even planned. I just escorted my sister there, and I was also auditioned to play a part in the movie titled, ‘Thorns of Rose’, and produced by Emeka Osai.

At that point, I was already acting a role in the nationwide NTA soap opera, ‘Winds of Destiny’, directed by Sadiq Daba. The journey has been great so far.”

Video Director, Unlimited L.A Sparks Controversy After Shading Men Who Are Unable To Drive Manual Cars

Popular video director Unlimited L.A, has stirred up a heated debate by shaming men who exclusively drive automatic cars.

In a provocative statement, he suggested that a man who cannot drive a manual car is somehow lesser, going as far as equating such a man to being a “lesbian”.

His remarks, shared on social media platform X, have created discussions among netizens, raising questions about gender stereotypes and driving skills.

The video director’s comment has sparked mixed reactions online, with many expressing disagreement and criticizing his tweet.

While some find his tweet as a lighthearted joke and find it funny, others argue that such statements are un  and and come across as unintelligent.

Driving a manual car, also known as driving stick-shift, requires a different set of skills compared to operating an automatic vehicle.

However, the ability to drive a manual car should not be used as a measure of one’s masculinity or worth.

The debate has highlighted the need to challenge societal expectations surrounding masculinity.

As the discussion continues to trend online, it serves as an opportunity to promote inclusivity and stop such statements

While the video director’s tweet has generated controversy, it as also provide a platform for dialogue and the need to recognize that skills and interests are not limited by gender.

“What is exactly wrong with us as a country?” – Peter Obi queries as he reviews the content of the N27.5 trn 2024 budget

Peter Obi queries

Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has taken to social media to scrutinize the content of the N27.5 trillion 2024 budget.

In a series of tweets shared via Twitter, the politician disclosed that he is currently reviewing the budget and is appalled by some of the intended projects.

He expressed his displeasure with the presidency for allocating over N20 billion to build a new house for the Vice President and renovate his houses in Lagos and Abuja, especially when a lesser amount is allocated for education.

Peter Obi queries

According to him, Nigeria is in a dire economic state, and it’s disturbing that the presidency is more concerned about frivolities like housing for the Vice President when he already has a good place of residence.

Read his full tweet below,

“Even as I am still studying the 2024 fiscal budget as presented to the National Assembly last week, I cannot wait as I am compelled to ask : what is exactly wrong with us as a country?

I ask this question because it is hard for me to understand some of the recent happenings in our nation, in these critical times. The recent news about a budget provision of N15 billion for the construction of a new residence for the Vice President is both shocking and disheartening, considering the many important challenges facing our nation. Just recently in the Supplementary Budget, the sum of N2.5 billion was included for the renovation of the Vice President’s residence in Abuja, which means that he already has a residence.

Again, during the budget presentation, I heard the sum of N3 billion was allocated for the renovation of the Vice President’s residence in Lagos. If we total all these sums, we would have budgeted the sum of N20.5 billion for the housing of the Vice President at this critical time when we are not just the world’s poverty capital, but more people are falling into poverty, with so many Nigerians not knowing where their next meal will come from. Our health facilities have collapsed, and unemployment is skyrocketing.

I am convinced that 99.9% of Nigerians can only dream of living in the current residence of the Vice President. Several people employed in the universities are not being paid. Just to give an example, the salary of a professor in a Nigerian university is about N400,000, which without removing tax is about N5 million a year. What we have budgeted for the housing of the Vice President who is already luxuriously housed is, therefore, the annual salary of about 3000 professors! This is the finance needed to develop the much-needed human capital.

The budget of N5 billion for student loans, which is yet to be disbursed is only a tiny percentage of the cost of the Vice President’s new home. We are projecting to use four times the amount for educating ALL Nigerian indigent students to house the Vice President, and we are being told there is nothing wrong with us. I am sure the major teaching hospitals in Nsukka, Lagos, Ibadan, and Zaria did not receive this much capital vote in the budget this year. We have had leaders that were exemplary in the past.

Most Nigerians may not know that the popular 1004 flats in Lagos, was a land allocated for the building of a Presidential Mansion for the then Head of State, General Murtala Mohammed.

He sternly turned down the offer and instructed that the land should be used to build blocks of flats for civil servants. That is the kind of sacrificial leadership worth emulating. Our leaders must therefore stop the recklessness and insensitivity to the plight of the masses.

We need leaders who show compassion and are willing to sacrifice for common progress and development. Such compassionate and frugal leaders are critical in our journey to the New Nigeria. -PO”

Nigerian Woman Falls Victim To Fraudster Posing As POS Operator, Loses Entire Bank Account Balance (VIDEO)

A Nigerian woman residing in Benin City, Edo State, has shared her experience of how a suspected fraudster, impersonating a POS operator, swapped her ATM card and managed to withdraw all the funds from her bank account.

The incident, recounted in a video she recorded, serves as a reminder about the prevalence of scams targeting unsuspecting individuals.

“How I got cancelled for saying Ghana influenced Nigerian music” – Mr Eazi

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, popularly known by his stage name Mr Eazi, has thought back on how he became a target of cancel culture after claiming that Ghana influenced Nigerian music.

Recall that Mr. Eazi faced criticism after he tweeted on January 11, 2017, regarding Ghanaian music’s great effect on modern Nigerian music. In reaction, a number of colleagues, fans, and music lovers threatened to cancel him.

In response to the criticism, Mr. Eazi stated that, in spite of the threats, he doesn’t regret making the comment on a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast with media personality, Joey Akan.

However, he was disappointed when some of the people in the business, whom he thought of as friends, joined others in cancelling him rather than dealing with the issue in private.

The “Leg Over” crooner also attacked individuals who still hold grudges against him, saying his remarks were insignificant and implying that their hostility is the result of unconnected factors.

In his words;

“When the whole issue with me being cancelled, even till tomorrow, I see people come on my [social media] profile and still throw hate. They said, ‘Oh, yeah, you said that.’ I’m like, ‘Fam, really? This energy take it to your local politician, wey dey run you street.’ You feel me? I didn’t kill anybody. I said what I said.

And I said it many years ago. If that is the reason you hate, then you hate me for something else. It’s deeper than that. And realising that just make me feel free. That’s the lens to which I look at e everything. Because I was seeing guys I was saying ‘Hello’ to, coming out to say, ‘F*ck Mr Eazi.’

And I was like, ‘Bro, you could have called me and say Eazi, I just saw this interview, you shouldn’t have said that. This is what I advise you to do.’ But it just became a thing of let’s all band together. And that’s why in my song ‘We Dey’, I said, ‘Twitter fingers steady showing fake love.’ Because it’s crowd mentality. It’s trendy to hate you, and now it’s like for clicks.

There are people making art and nobody is caring about their life whether they jump or sit. It’s like they are invisible. Love and hate is acknowledgement of your existence, I’m even blessed to be able to invoke something.”

“Attract investments with the attention we are enjoying” – Darey Art-Alade advises Afrobeats artistes

Popular Nigerian singer, Darey Art-Alade, has cautioned performers in the genre not to get exploited or rejected as Afrobeats gain popularity throughout the world.

In an interview that was published on Saturday, Darey stated that Nigerian artists should use their current level of popularity to draw in international investment.

He expressed his happiness that Afrobeats is gaining popularity worldwide, but he is also worried that outsiders will take advantage of the present trend.

He underlined how important it is for celebrities to support the many talents and infrastructure in their countries.

He said;

“The growth of afrobeats right now is incredible. It is a fantastic time to be alive. I am really happy and proud, but I am also concerned, because if we are not careful, they will use and dump us. We have to come back home, and invest in our people and infrastructure.

We have to use the attention we are enjoying right now to attract foreign investments, and build things that will outlive this current generation. It is not just about the hype we are getting right now; we can build a pipeline where creatives can be churned out and equipped with the right resources. For this hype not be a flash in the pan, we have to sustain it and keep feeding the world with our infectious energy.”

Whether it’s my failed jewellery line which I did at 28 years old or going to the University of Oxford at 29 and almost failing class.

Last year, I got engaged and I’m no longer engaged but such is life and I know my story is still happening and there’s more to come and I’m okay with the uncertainty.”

Actor Patrick Doyle Shades Men Who Broadcast Their “Intimate” Memoirs on Social Media!

Charismatic Nollywood actor, Patrick Doyle has expressed his disdain for a particular breed of men who resort to airing their grievances with former intimate partners on social platforms.

Patrick Doyle, known for his candid opinions, didn’t mince words as he labeled such individuals as nothing short of “low life.”

In a scathing commentary that reverberated through the digital realm, Doyle took to his own social media platform to deliver a well-articulated critique. “It takes a special specie of low-life man to be engaged in social media saga yabis with a woman he has been intimate with,” he wrote, employing a blend of wit and condemnation to drive home his point. The actor’s words serve as a stern rebuke to those who choose the public arena as the stage for their post-relationship drama.

But this isn’t just a one-off commentary from Doyle; it taps into a larger, ongoing trend of individuals resorting to social media as a battleground for personal grievances. The actor’s choice of words reflects a collective sentiment against the seemingly distasteful practice of washing one’s relationship laundry in the public domain.

Interestingly, Doyle’s comments echo a broader conversation about the pitfalls of using social media as a venting platform. It’s not just about the clash of two personalities; it’s about the potential harm caused to the larger community that witnesses and engages with such digital spats.

The backdrop of this discourse gains added relevance with the mention of another publicized clash, this time involving Davido’s logistics manager, Israel Afeare, and his estranged wife, Sheila.

Between Don Jazzy and a man who described him as stingy

In a recent social media showdown, Don Jazzy found himself at the center of an unexpected exchange when an X-user took a swipe at him, labeling him as ‘stingy.’ The entire episode unfolded after the renowned music producer shared an interesting anecdote on his social media handle.

Don Jazzy, ever the engaging storyteller, took to his platform to recount a night out at the club. In a moment of sheer serendipity, he found himself amidst a crowd of ‘big boys’ who were generously spraying money in the air. One particularly fortunate N500 note descended gracefully upon him, and with a touch of humor, Don Jazzy humorously shared that he nonchalantly tucked the unexpected windfall ‘in his bra.’ Little did he know that this seemingly harmless recounting of a quirky incident would set the stage for a social media clash.

Enter the disgruntled X-user, whose discontent with Don Jazzy’s actions manifested in a comment that dubbed the music maestro as a ‘stingy man.’ The man also added a speculative twist by insinuating that Don Jazzy’s perceived stinginess might be the reason behind his SINGLE status, stating, ‘no wonder you are lonely.’ The comment was undoubtedly a bold move, and it didn’t go unnoticed.

However, Don Jazzy, known for his quick wit and ability to handle social media banter with finesse, wasted no time in crafting a befitting response. His comeback, brimming with humor and sarcasm, not only defended his actions but also showcased his knack for turning a potential controversy into a lighthearted exchange.

LAMATA’s Vision Unveiled: Lagos Red Line Metro to Commence Service in 2024

In a recent press conference held by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), exciting news was revealed regarding the much-anticipated Red Line metro system.

With the successful launch of the Blue Rail connecting Marina to Mile 2 earlier this year, the state government is now gearing up for the commercial operation of the Red Line in the second quarter of 2024.

Under the visionary leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Government is committed to prioritizing transportation and traffic management as part of its THEMES+ agenda.

The addition of the Red Line is a grand step towards offering efficient and sustainable mobility solutions while improving air quality and reducing emissions within Lagos. The construction of the Red Line’s five stations is progressing with full force, with completion scheduled for December. Following this, test runs will commence in the first quarter of 2024, paving the way for full commercial operations.

The Red Line’s introduction is expected to reduce traffic congestion on major routes and provide commuters with a reliable and comfortable transportation option.

Not stopping at rail systems, the Lagos State Government has also unveiled plans to introduce electric buses (EBs) to the city’s roads. Collaborating with Oando Clean Energy Limited (OCEL), the government has already deployed two electric vehicles (EVs) as part of a pilot program.

The aim is to test the feasibility of electric buses and eventually increase the fleet to over 1,000 buses within the next two years. This initiative will not only reduce emissions but also enhance overall sustainability of public transportation in Lagos.

Furthermore, LAMATA is exploring alternative fuel sources to power its vehicles. The agency is piloting the use of Clean Natural Gas (CNG) on selected BRT corridors, with 10 CNG buses already in operation. By bringing on board eco-friendly stock like CNG, biofuels, and electric buses, LAMATA aims to achieve the state’s vision of zero emissions by 2050.

The press conference also shed light on the progress of the Lagos Urban Train Projects (LUTP). LAMATA proudly announced the completion of the Blue Line, a fully electric rail system, and confirmed that civil works for the Red Line are set to conclude by the end of this year.

Test runs for the Red Line are scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. Reflecting on LAMATA’s achievements over the past twenty years Managing Director Engr. (Mrs) Abimbola Akinajo emphasized the agency’s commitment to developing an efficient public intermodal transport system.

With a focus on integration and reduced emissions, LAMATA envisions a future where all transport modes peacefully coexist, enabling stress-free travel and ensuring smooth commute for Lagos residents.

With LAMATA leading the way, Lagos is on the fore front to become a model for urban mobility in Africa. The future of transportation in Lagos is bright, and residents can eagerly anticipate the transformative impact of these initiatives on their daily commute.
