Head of states, President Muhammadu Buhari has praised Nigerians for kicking ‘selfish leaders’ out of the Nigerian government.
The president who spoke during the All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Oshogbo, the Osun State capital, ahead of the governorship election on Saturday said his administration has zero tolerance for corruption and therefore, thanked Nigerians for voting in the administration in 2015.
He said,
“Nigeria kicked the corrupt and selfish leaders out of the Federal Government in 2015 and by the grace of God, the voters will continue to kick them out of leadership positions until we permanently consign their corrupt government style into the history books.
As we can see, our party has no tolerance for corruption. We will continue to ensure inclusiveness and economic diversification. Nigeria must be free of corrupt and selfish leaders. The children of all Nigerians will get quality infrastructure, education, healthcare and Job opportunities”.
Speaking further, the president urged the residents of the state to come out in their numbers to ensure that the APC continues to rule the state.
He said,
“this is why you must all come and vote for APC on the 22nd of September 2018. Osun remain APC, Osun must remain on the path of progress. Osun must not allow the dark days to return”.
The ‘FIFA 19 cover star’, Cristiano Ronaldo has received the world’s first copy of the game which isn’t due for release until Friday next week, September 28, 2018.
The Juventus forward shared a picture of himself and son, Cristiano Ronaldo Junior, on his IG page, posing with a PlayStation 4 copy of the game, which arrived in a special edition with the tag line ‘champions rise’ which ties in with the game’s new Champions League license.
Ronaldo scored his first Serie A goals for the club over the weekend and probably has a few cheeky games of Ultimate Team or FIFA 19’s new Kick off party modes with his son to celebrate.
While Ronaldo appears proudly on the front cover in full Juventus kit, his £99million move to Italy must have caused EA Sports a few issues.
Whilst changing the front cover should have been simple enough, there were worries that the transfer could have ruined Journey Mode.
One Father Pierluigi Maccalli, an Italian Catholic Priest who works as a Missionary in Niger Republic has been kidnapped, a Vatican news agency reported today.
The priest of the Society of African Missions (SMA) was abducted overnight, Agenzia Fides reported, quoting another Catholic priest based in Niger, Father Mauro Armanino.
Maccalli organised meetings against local practices like circumcision and female genital mutilation, and this “may be one of the reasons for the kidnapping, according to local sources” Fides said.
A Niger government spokesman, Abdourahamane Zakaria, confirmed the kidnapping of an Italian near the border with Burkina Faso. The Niger Defence Ministry added that the abductee was a priest.
Maccalli was based in the Bomoanga parish in the Niamey diocese, Fides said. His mission was in the Gourmance area near the Burkina Faso border, about 125 kilometres from Niamey, it added.
The Italian embassy in Niger asked local authorities to give top priority to the case and to avoid “initiatives that may put at risk Father Maccalli,’’ the Italian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In a second report, Fides said it heard from unnamed SMA sources that the priest was “probably taken across the border’’ to Burkina Faso where jihadist groups have set up bases.
Maccalli’s brother Walter, also a missionary priest, told ANSA: “We wish with all our heart that everything will work out for the best. In some cases all you can do is pray and wait with hope“.
There are several Islamist groups in Niger’s border area with Mali and Burkina Faso, some of whom have sworn allegiance to the Islamic State and al-Qaeda.

The baby was taken to the hospital where she was cleaned up, fed, and treated. The mother was later discovered to have passed out in another hospital due to forceful removal of the placenta.

Though she was the crowds favorite contestant as well as the outgoing Miss Intercontinental, Joan Maynard, she placed second. However, she became titleholder the following year when winner Bianca Onoh resigned. In 1990, Askia-Williams represented Nigeria at Miss Charm International held in Leningrad, Russia, and came second.
She also made history by becoming the first Nigerian at Miss International in Japan, where she made an impact with the most outstanding traditional costume.
After gaining public recognition in Nigeria as a beauty pageant winner, Askia-Williams began a modelling career. As a model, Askia-Williams appeared in several Nigerian print and television commercials including Kessingsheen Hair Care, boutique chain Collectibles, and most famously, Visine.

In 2005 she hosted a fashion show at the Nigerian Embassy in New York City to raise awareness for the plight of children’s social amenities in Nigeria, and in 2006, she hosted a charity fashion show at Lehman College in the Bronx, New York, which displayed the creations of top African designers and her own label Regine Fashions.

She has received several awards for her performances – including one for “Best Actress in Nigeria” by Afro Hollywood London in 2000 – and has produced several television shows and films.

Timothy Owoeye, an Osun State lawmaker seen on a viral video depicting him as bathing in the market square for ritual, was a victim of a ritual syndicate which had operated in the state for a long time, the police have told PREMIUM TIMES.
Little was known outside of Osun State about Mr Owoeye until a video showing him being beaten by some men who purportedly caught him taking a midnight ritual shower in a market hit the Internet this weekend.
Some of those who circulated the video on social media said Mr Owoeye, who is currently the House Majority Leader of Osun State House of Assembly, was performing the ritual as he intensified activities towards his political success in the upcoming general elections.
But Mr Owoeye, representing Ilesa West for the All Progressives Congress (APC), was actually a victim of a high-wire blackmail racket that had seen him part with humongous amount of his personal wealth in a desperate bid to save not only his own career but family image, Osun police commissioner, Adeoye Fimihan, told PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday afternoon.
“The fellow is a victim of some fraudsters who duped him some amount of money,” Mr Fimihan said by telephone. “They tricked him to that place and did that to blackmail him so that he will not be able to lodge complaint in the public.”
Mr Owoeye’s misery began about six months ago when he agreed to have a midnight shower in a market as recommended by herbalists he had been consulting for traditional prayers. The location is rumoured to be Osun Jela, described as a lull community between Osogbo, the state capital, and Ijesa.
But as he undressed himself and started having his shower, some persons — whom the police suspect had been lurking in the dark— emerged from the nearby bush, turned on lights and focused cameras on the lawmaker.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt from sources close to Mr Owoeye that persons were arranged by the fraudsters who had been parading themselves to the lawmaker as herbalists working to help enhance his fortunes through traditional means.
The syndicate promised not to circulate the video if Mr Owoeye complied with their demands for cash. He paid the initial cash to the crooks, which subsequently opened a cascade of regular financial flows to their pockets.
At some point during the blackmail, about three months ago, Mr Owoeye wanted to sell a filling station he owned after running out of liquid cash to keep hushing his so-called scandal.
“He did not sell the filling station, but he had paid them more than N40million before then,” the source said. It was when Mr Owoeye was trying to raise money by selling his filling station that an associate pressed him to disclose what his crisis was about. He was then advised to take the matter to the governor and subsequently to the police.
“We are happy that he summoned the courage to complain and the police succeeded in arresting some of those fellows and they were charged to court,” Mr Fimihan said. “Whatever is being circulated is just a way of ensuring that he will not be able to complain.”
The commissioner said he could not immediately tell how much Mr Owoeye lost to the scheme, but the police had recovered N10 million of it already.
“I cannot say precisely now, but the police were able to recover N10 million of the funds he was swindled,” the police chief told PREMIUM TIMES.
Both the commissioner and Mr Owoeye’s associate told PREMIUM TIMES the video was leaked by other members of the syndicate who were yet to be taken into custody.
Mr Owoeye could not be reached for comments. It was also not immediately confirmed whether the arrested suspects had hired their legal representatives.
Ritual prayer by fake herbalists is a booming trade in which unsuspecting citizens lose billions across Nigeria annually, and the police have spent years combating its spread by regularly smashing hideouts of syndicates.

A Kenyan family living in the US has been thrown into mourning after the father hit and killed his 18-month son while reversing his car.
Mr Dan Mutuma, a nurse in Kansas City, was reversing his car from the parking lot when the child, Mishael Mutuma, walked unnoticed behind the vehicle, and was crushed.
The child was the grandson of Pastor Moses Mutuma of Miathene SDA district in Meru County, Kenya. Mr Mutuma’s brother-in-law Ezra Kamencu Mingaine said the tragic incident has left the young family distraught.
The man had left his home early morning for a local university where he is studying but realised he had forgotten some document and went to get it.
He hurriedly picked the item, bid his wife Loise, who was tending to their young twins and mother-in-law goodbye, and quickly left the house without realising that his son had sneaked out of the house and followed him.
“It is so painful to the entire family and especially to the father to have crushed his own son. There is no way he could have seen the kid who was playing behind. The child had run unnoticed behind the vehicle as the father was reversing.
“The mother-in-law was in the kitchen while the wife was tending to the other twin children. It was so painful, nobody could be blamed for it,” said Mr Mingaine by phone.
According to Fox 4 News, residents who saw the tragedy happen said they heard the father wailing after the child was hit by the car.
The TV station reported that local Olathe police were investigating the matter but did not expect to prefer any criminal charges from the incident and were treating it as an accident.
The child will be buried in the US but the burial date has not yet been set.
Mr Mingaine said that the incident has triggered revival of a campaign to sensitize motorists on the need to check their vehicles to prevent such tragedies from happening.
“If the child were not his, it would have been a terrible case. I have started educating members of the public on the need to ensure they know where their children are while driving away,” Mr Mingaine said.
The Billionaire blogger welcomed her first child, Baby J in Atlanta today, 17th September, 2018.

Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode reportedly broke down in tears and he’s been in low spirits since the day he picked up the APC governorship nomination form, a source at the Lagos State Government House in Alausa disclosed to Pulse.
Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu has emerged the handpicked candidate of APC kingmakers in Lagos, and he’s been anointed the preferred candidate to unseat Ambode during a primary election exercise slated for September 29, 2018.
Ambode was very sure of a second term in office before a dizzying spate of events in September made him sink into his office chair in agony, on occasion.
Two former Commissioners in Lagos, Obafemi Hamzat and Sanwoolu, picked up their respective nomination forms on the day Ambode was acquiring his, throwing the race for Lagos government house open.
Ambode in a battle for his life
The APC in Lagos will go with the direct primary system as opposed to the indirect primary system.
In a direct primary, all members of the party are allowed to choose flagbearers ahead of general election. In an indirect primary, only select party delegates are allowed to vote.
If Ambode had been in the good books of godfather Bola Tinubu or other power brokers in the APC, an indirect primary would have been settled for and he would have been handed an automatic ticket.
“The fact that they are making him go through the primaries with other aspirants in a state like Lagos, shows you that they want to humiliate him”, Prince Abeng, a political pundit, submitted.
One top ranking official in Lagos State government set-up told Pulse that Ambode’s mood swings are now more frequent than there have ever been and that the governor isn’t holding back the tears.
“We saw him shedding tears the other day. He even drove himself out of government house, something he’s never done”, the source disclosed.
Pulse was also told that Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike rang Ambode to offer him the PDP governorship ticket in Lagos.
Pulse has been unable to independently verify these stories from our sources, as neither Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ambode, Abib Haruna nor Commissioner for Information in Lagos, Kehinde Bamgbetan, picked up their phones.
An email sent to Bamigbetan on the intrigues in the politics of Lagos APC, has also not been replied, days after.
Moody and dejected
One aide in Alausa, the seat of government in Lagos, describes Ambode’s mood these days as “crestfallen, somber and a tad dejected”.
When Sanwoolu formally declared for Ambode’s seat on Sunday, September 16, 2018, all of Tinubu’s loyalists in Lagos, including Senator Gbenga Ashafa who represents Lagos East in the upper legislative chamber, were in the audience to cheer him on with chants of “incoming, incoming!”
Sanwoolu enjoys Tinubu’s backing and is being galvanized by the Mandate Movement—a grassroot assemblage that answers to Tinubu.
All 57 council chairmen in Lagos have also endorsed Sanwoolu who promised to restore work on a 25-year masterplan once he is elected.
Ambode resumed duties as Lagos governor for a first term in office on May 29, 2015.
